What ports to open on ADSL router for ePrint

My HP ePrint printer is behind an ADSL router with firewall/NAT functionality. The printer has an internal ip address.
Incoming connections from the internet are by default denied unless I open specific ports and protocols on the firewall and do natting to the internal network. What do I need to to open to allow HP to send print jobs to my HP printer at home?

This setup works for me on a port-based firewalled NAT router with all inbound/outbound TCP/UDP ports blocked from 1 to 65535 except those enabled out of necessity like DNS (UDP/TCP port 53). I added TCP port 5223 (XMPP over SSL) outbound only to the NAT firewall. TCP port 443 (HTTPS) outbound was already enabled. No UDP ports. No inbound. No need to do NAT port forwarding. Port 5222 (XMPP) also works for me but it's unencrypted, I believe.
It takes several minutes for the ePrint service to get established but it does eventually work. I think the printer tries to connect to the ePrint service on port 5222 first and when that fails it tries 5223 so it takes a little more time to get connected. But, that's just a guess.

Recommendations - UK ADSL router for AirPort

I've been having fun trying to configure my in-laws D-Link DSL-300G+ router with an AirPort Extreme.
I've resulted giving them my Asus AAM60xxEV so their AirPort network is working.
I've played with the D-Link but gather that it's really not AP compatible. If I'm to replace it can anyone recommend a decent ADSL router that will work with AP.

It is very nice to see all the positive comments made about ADSL Nation and our products. I thought I would just post an update those who are interested in what is happening at the moment.
The X-Modem has proven very popular and is an ideal companion to the Airport Extreme/Express. So people looking to buy one will be pleased to hear that we haven't dropped it completely, we are just revamping our product range. We have a new X-Modem called the X-Modem M3 in the works but due to problems with the manufacturing facility we use the X-Modem CE has sold out and we haven't been able to produce any more. The new X-Modem M3 will be in a silver metal finish so that it looks nicer along side the G5/Mini/Powerbook etc. We were expecting it to be available already but as seems to be a standard feature of the technology industry delays have crept in and I expect that mid October is the likely timescale for the X-Modem M3.
The AMX-64 is also now discontinued and is being replaced by the MRX-400 that is expected at the end of October.
Our latest product just launched on Friday the 23rd is the X-Station. The X-Station is basically a combined ADSL Modem, 4 port Router, and Airport Extreme (54g) compatible wireless. So for people considering what is the best option an X-Station or a combination of Airport Extreme/Express + X-Modem here are a few pointers to help you decide as both options have their benefits.
The chief advantage of the X-Station is that because everything is in one box you just have the one piece of equipment to set-up with just a single power outlet required. The provision of 4 Ethernet ports means that it is easy to connect a range of both wired and wireless computers to the X-station. It also means that combining all the features into a single box makes the combined unit costs about half of what the separates cost.
However the two can not be directly compared as there are some key advantages of the Airport Extreme/Express that no other wireless solution offers. The key differences for the Airport Express are primarily the USB port and the AirTunes features. The USB port allows you to connect a printer to the Airport Express/Extreme so that printing can be done without having the printer shared on another computer the X-Station allows connection of Ethernet and Wireless printers but a USB printer will need either to be shared via a Mac or using an optional USB print server. The AirTunes option as I'm sure most people already know allows iTunes music to be sent over the wireless link to play on a stereo connected to the Airport Express base station and this is exclusive to Apple's Airport Express. The other two key advantages of Airport Extereme/Express are the fact that having a separate modem means that migration to another broadband technology for example cable is easy by simply swapping the modem. Also if the wireless range on the Airport is not enough a second one can be used as a repeater (WDS) not available on the X-Station. The methods for extending the range on an X-station are by using a more powerful antenna or adding a second wireless access point connected via Ethernet to the X-Station.

What Ports to Open

Hello All,
Was wondering what specific ports need to be open on my firewall for external users wanting to access the OSX server (file services). And I know this isn't the correct forum for this portion, but perhaps the ports for Apple Remote Desktop as well?

'File services' emcompasses many things. Do you mean AFP? FTP? SMB? NFS? SFTP?, or something else?

Which ADSL Router for TC?

I've just bought Time Capsule to discover it doesn't include a ADSL router. I don't have one - can anyone recommend a decent one that will be easy to set up with TC?

You are much better off with an Ethernet ADSL modem for use with a Time Capsule as the TC is a router itself. Something like the X-Modem M3 would mean that you don't have to mess about with port forwarding an suchlike on an ADSL router.

What ports to open between Connection broker and Web access hosts

I have setup a 4 node 2008 R2 RDS farm (1 connection broker, 1 Web access, and 2 session hosts.) They were all built from the same image, but the web access and connection broker will not talk to each other. They are all on the same subnet, and ips are x.x.x.200-203 The Web access server can ping the Sesions hosts, the session hosts can ping each other, web access and the connection broker. But the Web access and Connection broker cant ping each other. I turned off the windows firewall and they can ping, and connect... So whats ports does it need open?

I am sorry, but UPnP is automatically enabled on my Netgear 834G but still won't make it work.
I've disabled the internal Firewall in 10.4.6 and also opened all ports on the router (1024-65535) for both outbound and inbound. I've trashed all pref files in /Library/Preferences. Yet I have still failed to connect to an AIM user.
If I disconnect the router and plug in an old D-Link ADSL modem it works striaght away for iChat and AIM users without a fail.
Any help appreciated!

What ports to open for iChat for video

I can't video chat when I'm connected to my D-link WBR-2130 Wireless G router. I know that the problems lies within the router because if I connect my computer from ethernet to my modem it works fine.
I believe the problem is just that I need to open up some ports. I had a list that someone gave me but I can't find it right now. So can I get a ports listing to open up and have the router work?
Is there anything else I could be missing so I don't need to come back and say it didn't work?

Try turning the SPI or DOS firewall setting on the WAN page Off as well.
It is a Check to Disable this item.
Save Settings.
In my DG834G I only made sure it did UPnP (Default) and changed the DOS (on Mine) to Off and allowed the Responding to Internet Pings.
My Allow and Block settings were the same as yours.
I did have Bonjour problems with one computer on Leopard and the other on Tiger that I was not able to resolve until both were on Leopard.

What PORTS to open in the Environment

I want to setup two nodes RAC plus a Physical Standby plus a Logical Standby and a Grid Control server. I need to tell network admins to OPEN ports in firewall so that each servers can talk to other. My question is what are the default ports used by these servers so that it can left OPEN.
Or let know the doc / url etc where I can find the info.

For the public interface port 1521 is the default. I do not recall, without looking it up, the default for the OEM Grid agents. My recommendation, for Data Guard, is that you choose a different port and set it up with a different listener ... 1522 comes to mind immediately.
But as to what other port ranges need to be open for the actual connection you need to read the docs. 1521 is used only for connecting to the listener. The actual database connection does not use that port and does not use any specific port rather it uses a range.

What to use as an ADSL modem for Airport Express/Extreme?

I am in the UK. My broadband comes down the telephone line. What modem should I use to connect to an Airport Express or Airport Extreme router?

My ISP is Demon, which is now owned by Vodafone. I telephoned Demon and was told (a) that it only supplies the Technicolor TG582n as a courtesy (b) that it supplies no other hardware (c) that I might be able to make the TG582n work in bridge mode but that Demon provides no support for that - meaning no help or advice either (d) that any router bought off-the-shelf in the UK which supports ADSL 2+ will be compatible with Demon's service and (e) that any modem which supports ADSL 2+ should also therefore work. Pressed by me for the names of routers that other clients of Demon's use, I was told that these included routers manufactured by Netgear, Cisco and Draytek but that this is not an exhaustive list.
In summary, Demon says that any off-the-shelf modem that supports ADSL 2+ should work.
To return to the question that I first asked, therefore, I would be grateful if anyone can give me the names of any ADSL 2+ modems which work optimally with Airports Express or Extreme.
If anyone reading this post has any experience they can share, that would be very kind and much appreciated.
If any ADSL 2+ modem will do as well as another, it would be helpful to know that also.

What is the best 802.11G router for both B and G laptops?

I have an older laptop with 802.11B wireless. This is a work provided computer, so I can not make any mods. I have a personal one that is G. I read that the WRT54GS does not play well with B's and the WRT54G has connection problems. I don't know if I capable of doing the flash that I keep reading about. Did Version 8 fix any of the problems? What about the GX, GX2 or GX4?

well WRT54GS should work with 802.11B, if you go for WRT54G router then i would suggest you to buy a version WRT54Gv6...

Should FTP port be opened for client_to_as function

I need to transfer a file from the client machine to the Solaris Server where the 10g forms are running. I was planning on using the webutil_file_transfer.client_to_as function. I know we have to set some properties in the webutil.cfg file. Other than that, should the FTP port be open on the server for the file to be transferred from the client machine. Basically, wanted to know if FTP protocols are used to transfer the file so that certain securities can be set on the server.
Also does anyone know how to delete the file on the solaris server programmatically through Oracle Forms? After the file is transferred from the client to the server and processed, I need to delete the file. I am assuming you can use the HOST command, but not sure of the exact syntax and what permissions are required to delete the file from the client machine.

I have never used the "Client_To_AS" method, however, according to the documentation all you need to configure is the webutil.cfg and insure the transfer.appsrv.enabled parameter is set to TRUE and if the transfer.appsrv.accessControl parameter is set to TRUE then you also need to ensure the target directory on the App Server is listed in the transfer.appsrv.write list. There is no mention that FTP must be enabled on the App Server.
The documentation also states that you should call the WebUtil_File_Transfer.IsASWritable function with the target file name to ensure you are able to write to the file location on the server.
As to how to delete a file, you can use the "rm <filename>" command in Solaris to remove the file. Also, here is the link to the documentation I used to reply to your post.

WVC200 with Siemens Gigaset SE568 ADSL Router

I need serious help here. Have gone through various sections on this forum, I have setup everything. The camera is configured through wifi. My router has port forwarding enabled. I have registered with Dyndns and have a domain. Selected the port on my WVC200 under options. Its all configured and i just cant seem to access the camera using the domain. Even using local ip coupled with the port - it doesnt go straight to the camera. If i type 192.168.254.1:8080 (which is the current setting and the ip is static) IE returns with a page not found. I can get in only if i put http://192.168.254.2:8080/main.cgi?next_file=main.htm - additionally, i have no access through the domain. If I use it on the laptop connected to the same WIFI network using the dyndns domain not putting the port-it takes me to the router setup. But when I add the relevant port, its back to page not found. Its been 4 days and i have been going crazy over this. I thought it would be simple. But guess its not. All i want is a simple remote access to monitor the house from different locations. Any advice will be highly appreciated. Thanks

I am sure you did everything that seems obvious. But you cannot test Internet access from your house with one DSL connection.
When you specify an URL with a port it is no longer 'simply putting in': the address must be in full and correct: http://x.x.x.x/. (don't forget the ending slash).
If port 80 is blocked then what port is open? It doesn't matter really, you can still have an 8000+ port for your domain and forward it to port 80 on your camera. Run a port test from http://www.grc.com (ShieldsUp) to find out what ports are open.
I would also check if your router is configured for incoming requests.

Recommended wifi router for Y2 tab 13?

At the moment, I have an old wifi "g" class router that's capable of about 50 Mbit/s (if I interpreted the specifications correctly). I see that new "n" class routers, as well as Yoga tablets, are capable of about 600 Mbit/s - that seems a great improvement. Could anyone recommend some particular model that works well and stable with Yoga tablets?
I've tried googling them and reading Amazon reviews, but I'm not much smarter after that... Some models I've looked at (I'm aware these support even better speeds than "n", but that seems a better and more future proof investment than pure "n" router):
TP Link Archer C7 - cheaper but said to be less reliable and slower than competition
Asus RT-AC68 - a lot of praise, but also a lot of (bad) 1 and 2 star reviews
Asus RT-AC87 - again a lot of praise, but also a lot of people with issues
Netgear R7000 - again mixed reviews and allegedly particularly bad support from manufacturer
I would be happy with just a reasonable speed improvement (for example, currently I can't stream any high definition movies and even just browsing folders on the other machine in local network is noticably slow) and I won't connect many devices simultaneously (typically 1 to 3).

The prices of routers at the end of the day depends on the functionality which you are looking for. Example some routers have guest mode, kids mode, supports USB / NAS, etc etc.
Therefore at the end of the day, it would depend what will you be using the router for. As for myself, I have 2 access point at home due to my weak WLAN router and I am planning to get one which is dual band together with AC to ensure future proofing...
