What power supply attachement do you use and why?

Hey All! im curious i use to use the AC wall plug that came with the magsafe charger but recently started using the power cord for more length. I started using it since im home most of the time and the outlets are pretty far from the sitting arrangements. So what do you use and why?
Thanks!

I use the longer one all the time, as I usually end up aways away from a plug, and its easier to fit into an outlet or power strip that is already overburdened with warts.
I don't understand why one cord is grounded, and the other is not. The brick clearly doesn't need grounding, so why is the longer cord grounded? Is it some sort of weird law?
When travelling, I ALWAYS throw the little short flip-out plug in though, just in case I am in some archiac building that has not been updated with 3-prong grounded wiring. I also heard that in Canada, most or all of the plugs are two-prong only.

  • Bootcamp or Paralles - what do you use and why?

What program do you use and why?

    I use both.
Boot Camp provides to full power of your MBP and for many, most importantly it has direct graphics support where Parallels does not. My MBP has replaced my Dell PC and this is now my "full time" PC as well as my travel/TV watching Mac.
Parallels on the other hand has the advantage of being a very quick and simple solution for those that predominantly use Mac OS X who additionally require sporadic use or lower performance applications in Windows.
Now that Parallels now allows you to utilise your Boot Camp partition, resulting in only a single Windows license, partition and disk usage I think many will find benefit from using both depending on the momentary need.

  • Which www daemon do you use, and why?

I currently use apache, but have been looking into lighttpd lately. I have read some very good things about its performance.
What www daemon do you use?
    Why do you use it?

I'm not a httpd guru (read: I don't need any special features), but as for now I use lighttpd as my small web server. It's pretty simple, yet robust. Configuration is a breeze, everything's in one place, documentation covers all the important things in a nice manner. Moreover, benchmarks show it to be more efficient than apache, although it doesn't concern me that much ;-)
Apache is obviously a good piece of software, but with robustness comes the complicity. Like not even being sure what's the compress module for apache2 (*points at cactus*) ;-)
I've tried lighttpd solely for fun and, well, managed to set up some things I wouldn't even bother to set with apache (i.e. I wouldn't bother to browse all those modules docs, seeking the right thing).

  • What photo editing software is everyone using and why?

I am trying to find a good photo editing software to use and before spending any money on it would like to hear everyones opinion on what they use and why? Originally I intended on purchasing aperture ... but I am under the impression that aperture is being discontinued so now I am searching again ... thanks for everyones input in advance....

If after trying out iPhoto's editing capabilities for a while you find you want more capability give Adobe Photoshop Elements for Mac a try.  It's reasonably priced and can do about 75% or so of what the full Photoshop can do like these:
There's a free, open source application that's a lot like the full Photoshop: GIMP for Mac.  Another full featured editor along these same lines is Pixelmator.
Some Image Editors That Support layers:
    Photoshop Elements 11 for Mac - $79
    Pixelmator - $60
    GIMP for Mac - Free
So there are a lot of choices out there to investigate.

  • Which infrastructure are you using and why?

    Dear Portal Experts,
I would be most interested in learning which tools portal developers are using in their daily work. I have therefore started a survey at the Collaboration Workspace (actually a discussion - 'survey' was not available).
I would be happy if the readers of this forum could also participate to collect this information.
    Thanks a lot,
    Björn

Still kinda debating on the two. I have the 8GB 3G right now and don't fill it up a lot.. but I also have another MP3 player that i keep my music on and don't take a ton of pictures. But I know with the better camera and video recording, I will be using it a lot. I am pre ordering tomorrow, but still undecided. Just don't know that I want to spend an extra $100. I can always transfer my pictures to my computer (or website) if I needed to. Just keep the ones I really want. Videos I will probably keep on my computer for sure. Guess I will go with the 16GB. Still leaves me room for songs (I like to keep around 200 at a time for a variety at work), pictures, apps, and some video.

  • Photo/Video editing PC build; what would you change and why?

I'm in the planning phase of my first photo/video editing PC build.  I've done quite a bit of research to this point, and I've finally come to a decision on all of the components (I think).  After seeing how helpful everyone is on this forum, I decided to post my plan and see what everyone thinks.
Miscellaneous info:  I am an amateur photographer looking to expand my horizons and venture into the video realm.  I will be running Windows 7 64bit with Adobe CS5 Production Premium and Lightroom 3 on a singe solid state drive and everything else will be on a 3 drive RAID 0 config.  Eventually I plan on purchasing a RAID card and a few more drives for a RAID 3 (or 5) config, but that won't be for a while.
    Ok, here's my planned build...

So, what would you change and why?
I'm looking forward to your responses!

"I'll take your advice and go with Samsung F3s.  With the money I save  (by not getting the WD Caviar Blacks), I'll add a 4th drive and use the  RAID5 on the mobo until I can afford to upgrade to a proper RAID  controller."
I might be a bit late, but wanted to let you know about motherboard software RAID configs (at least mine):
I have an older system running an ASUS P5AD2-E Premium MB containing a Silicon Image 3114 RAID chip. I originally configured a RAID 10 array with four 74 G Raptors for speed and redundancy. Figured if I lost a disc, I could just rebuid the array. Come to find out, the Sil 3114 chip does not support rebuilding the RAID 10 array.
I had lost a disc (disc was okay, just power to the disc was interupted) so was running on three. Fixed my power problem, went to rebuild the array and couldn't. So I figured what is the point of having a RAID 10 that I couldn't rebuild. Went to a RAID 0 with a backup disk.
Never checked the documentation to see if software RAID 5 through the SIl 3114 was rebuildable.
Mind you, I am not a computer guru nor all knowledgable about software/harware based RAID configs. But after talking to others who are the guru's, I found that I should stay away from the motherboard software RAID arrays and they mirror what Harm said about hardware RAID boards. But on a budget, the RAID 0 with a backup drive works for me.
Just my 2 cents to help.

  • What power supply????????---Help!!!!!!

Building new system,,,,,K8Nneo4 platinum SLi----with two 6800GT's and AMD64 4000+,,,,,WHAT POWER SUPPLY DO I NEED?????

Actually, you really do need to do your homework first. Go to takaman's Power Supply Calculator and figure out HOW MANY AMPS YOU NEED ON EACH RAIL. Watts mean nothing as many manufacturers make distorted claims anyways. And they also test their PSU's at 25c. At 50c many of those cheap 550w PSU's output will actually drop to something like 250w!! Check THIS out.
Here's the [H]ardOCP list of Un-reccomended and Unscrupulous Power Supply Companies:
    Achieve
    Aerocool
    Allied
    Aspire
    Codegen
    Coolmax
    Demon
    Deer
    Devanni.
    Dynapower
    Eagle
    E-power (except Tagan series)
    InWin
    JustPC
    Kingwin
    L&C
    Linkworld
    MGE,
    PCMICS
    Power-Man
    Powmax
    Power-Up
    Raidmax
Thermaltakes (low end ones, butterflies are fine, and some enlight models, the TT category depends)
    Turbo
Ultra-X (yes, the pretty looking ones, they are made by a low-quality Chinese company that starts with "Young". Can't get much more generic than that!!!)
    X-superalien
    X-treme
syar2003 gave you the best info you could have regarding a PSU for a SLI system. My personal recommendation? PC Power & Cooling Turbo Cool 510 SLI. The Enermax EG701AX-VE would be a good choice also, but for $25 more the PCP&C TC 510 SLI is definitely the top choice.
Look at it this way, you're going to have to spend $200 for a good SLI PSU anyways, why not get the best. I mean, it's just the most important component in your computer. If you're gonna spend $2000 - $3000 on your new Rig, do you really want to risk all that valuable hardware on some cheap PSU?
Anyone could buy that cheap PSU for their sweet new SLI Rig, but, they better have a fire extinguisher and $2000 handy when they've OC'd their new AMD64 4000+ and those two sweet 6800GT's and their cheap PSU bursts into flames.
We all like to get the best for as little as possible, but the PSU is NOT the component anyone should want to cut costs on.
Go over to The [H]ardOCP Power Supplies Forum and read the Stickies there.
Tons of extremely valuable info the on PSU's. Good Luck & Good Hunting.

The size and resolution depends on the intended output.
In my opinion relevant zooming shortcuts would be cmd-0 (View > Fit on Screen), cmd-1 (View > 100%) and cmd-spacebar/cmd-alt-spacebar to temporarily switch the current Tool to the Zoom Tool.

What work traveler adapter do you use when traveling in India?

I didn't mean my reply as a rant! Just welcoming another disabled guy on board. Yes, I do budget - and have enough left over to buy software and hardware for my Mac. The 'government' doesn't pay my electric bill - I do - and I pay $460 a month in rent - and I live in a very nice, unsubsidized handicapped and wheelchair accessible apartment.
You really need to work on your anger issues - and although I, too, believe in an afterlife, I can be happy in life just as I am: I've no legs, so getting around is difficult for me but I don't let that stop me from enjoying life.
I've no family remaining save for an uncle and aunt and some cousins - and they're all in Texas. And, although I, too, was "dumped" by most of my middle-class friends, I have a handful of friends on whom I rely.
I don't believe that suicide is a way out, either. My own step-mother blew her brains out after she had a stroke. She was on massive amounts of antidepressants but she took her own life. That way is not for me.
Loosen up and open up a little - I'm sure that you can find something in common even if it's with others who may be disabled. I do some volunteer work with a couple of agencies in town and find that keeps me going - and keeps me from feeling sorry for myself.
If you need anyone to 'talk' to at anytime, just click on my name and my profile with my email address is public. Email me if you like...
And have a Happy New Year - and be thankful that you got your computer as a gift!

  • What is better to use and why?

    Hi,
What is better to use and why?
We have written follwing statements to check the existence of interested record in table.
    1).
    select count(*) from emp where deptno = 20;
    2).
    select 'X'
    from dual
    where exists (
    select 'X' from emp
    where deptno = 20);
    Thanks and Regards,
    Rushang Kansara

Assuming a large table, number two would be the fastest. If empno in unique, you can leave out the where exists part and just select x from emp where empno = 20. If empno is not unique, then using where exists can be faster. Assuming that empno is not unique, query 1 may elect to scan the whole table looking for that empno. Number 2 can use the index and return your result in, typically, three LIOs.
Again, it all depends on your indexing, size of tables, and uniqueness of key upon which you are searching.

  • What PPro CS5 preset do you use for Canon T2i/550D footage?

When editing Canon T2i (or 550D) footage what Premiere Pro CS5 preset is the best to use: the Canon XF MPEG2 or the Digital SLR presets?
I've just speant an hour on the net searching for this info and found conflicting opinions so I'm hoping some CS5/T2i users see this and will respond with what they use and why. Thanks!

Note that while this technically does work, it will create a sequence using the Desktop editing mode; Premiere Pro CS5 has a specific DSLR editing mode, and that is what is used when you manually select the appropriate DSLR preset. It's really not a big deal--you can edit DSLR footage (and any other footage, for that matter) in any sequence preset you like, so go with whatever method suits you. Personally, I like to choose the specific sequence preset that matches my footage, instead of relying on the guesswork on the New Item button--for example, this process does not correctly read SD or HD video from Panasonic P2 cards in MXF format.
    YMMV...
