What problems should be expected after purchasing a macbook in america?

My friend is purchasing a Mac Book in the united states and then moving to england. Apart from the obvious need for a plug adapter, what other problems will he face? How might this affect the warranty or cover plan?
Any advice would be appreciated!
iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   Airport Extreme

I was always under the impression that the keyboards were different. The currency aboove the '3' key is '$' in the US machine and '£' on the UK machine. Of course OS X can set the keyboard layout to whichever you prefer, but the physical keyboard will still display what it was built to display.
Also, aren't the 'enter' keys differently shaped? There's a chance this MAY effect resale valus in the UK.
I wouldn't exactly call these problems, but they're tidbits worth knowing IMHO.

What cable should be used to connect a macbook pro, 13 inch, early 2011 model to an external projector so the project displays the image on the computer screen?

You will need a cable or adapter with a minidisplay connection for the MBP.  That will be inserted in the Thunderbolt port.  The other end is dependent upon the connections of the projector which you have not listed.

  • What passwords should be changed after OAS cluster build?

I have completed a cluster installation of Fusion Middleware and AIA 2.2.x. I would like to know what passwords should be changed other than oc4jadmin.

    hi,
First of all changing password of oc4jadmin on cluster is bit tricky. make sure you follow the steps correctly. I assume you know these steps.
It is not advised to use oc4jadmin for normal monitoring, admin and configuration changes task in application server control. you should create following user with corresponding privileges. Please refer to http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B31017_01/core.1013/b28940/tools.htm#BEIDJGID
ascontrol_admin : Assign this role to administrators who need complete administrative privileges and access to the Application Server Control application and pages. You can consider these administrators the "super users" assigned to manage your Oracle Application Server and OC4J environment.
ascontrol_appadmin : Assign this role to administrators who need to manage all deployed applications, except the default and Application Server Control (ascontrol) applications. These administrators can manage the applications you deploy, but they cannot create new administrative users or make global configuration changes.
ascontrol_monitor : Assign this role to administrators who must monitor the Oracle Application Server and OC4J environment, but do not need to make any configuration changes to the applications or the OC4J instance. This role is essentially a read-only role.
Also, you would want to create user for monitoring in BPEL, ESB, AIA console. This user should have following roles:
    AIAUser
    BPMAnalyst
    BPMDefaultDomainAdmin
    Supervisor
    Ascontrol_monitor

    Hey jennyk67,
Thanks for the question. Did you transfer the iTunes Library from your previous computer over to the Mac? If not, the following resource should help you through that process:

  • FRONT PAGE - what kind of problems should I expect?

I've been asked to take over an existing site and make mods.
The site was created in FP v6.0 and I use Dreamweaver MX
    2004. The
site uses styles and some javascript.
It has been a long time since I worked with a site created in
    FP and
all I remember about the last time is that I did not like the
    experience one bit.
Can somebody recommend any links or resources about problems,
incompatibilities, etc. that will be expected?
    Thanks for your help.

Can you post a link to the site so I can examine the pages?

  • Potential Problem with Time Capsule after purchasing second computer?

I have had a MacBook for 3 years and have been backing it up on a Time Capsule (about 40Gb). Now I bought an iMac and would like to set up a system
1.with all applications and files on the iMac, as my main computer, backed up on the Time Capsule ,
    2. and with the option to easily synchronize new or adjusted files I produce when I travel with (or work on) my Macbook and iPad .
How should I proceed to avoid trouble? Any experience with an isuue like that?
    Thank you very much
    Paul

I have almost the identical issue to above - except for the different version of operating systems (I'm running Lion to Lion both most recently updated). I migrated from a 2009 24" iMac to a new 2011 27" iMac and the first backup to initiate following the migration failed with exactly the same error message. Notably, this was on my 2009 Mac (as I have not activated TC on the new one yet).
Pondini is a great reference... but following his logic, I would seem to have a corrupt disk. But I can still access the TM history and browse without problem. Help

  • What happens to CS6 License after purchasing CC

We recently purchased an Adobe CS6 product and we are thinking of upgrading to CC for one of our staff. What happens to the old CS6 license if we upgrade? Can we still install the CS6 suite on another computer with the license it came with, or does it become null and void?

@Promofuse, as you were having CS6 subscription earlier then you auto upgraded to Creative Cloud subscription.
So you now replaced by CC subscription(single license) as auto migration.
However, using Creative Cloud subscription you can still install CS6 on same two desktop machines where you have already activated subscription(no additional machine).
Please refer following article which explain how to install CS6 applications using Creative Cloud.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/download-previous-versions-creative-applications. html
Regarding your question if you had bought CS6 as full suite package(rather than the subscription)
then you need to purchase the Creative Cloud subscription separately(you could choose special offer for discounted price on the basis of CS6) but you will not auto upgraded as in case of CS6 subscription.
Hereby, in this scenario you now have CS6 license of full suite package and CC subscription(each with activation).

I'm extremely unclear on exactly what's happening. You mention something about a script running at startup in your subject, but then never mention that again. What's going on there? Where are you finding that script?
That script would suggest someone playing a joke on you, by making your computer say "quack" every time you start up. That's not indicative of malware.
On the other hand, a hidden file as you describe is a common malware trick, though I'm not sure why it would only contain "--purge" - that isn't a complete command, as far as I know, and the purge command isn't likely to be used for malicious purposes anyway.
Still, you do have some indication that you're using Bitcoin-related apps, and there has been some Bitcoin malware that has appeared recently. See:
    New CoinThief malware discovered
Note that the post on MacRumors that you refer to in your second post is almost six years old, and references a vulnerability that was closed later in 2008. It's completely irrelevant to any modern system.

  • Editing Red Dragon Raw 6k Footage with Premiere CC and/or CC 2014 - Which is better and what issues should I expect?

    Hi All
    As the title asks;
    1. Are there any known issues when Editing Red Dragon raw 6k footage in Premiere Pro CC/CC14 ?
    2. Which version of the software would be the best choice ? CC/CC 2014 (I have both)
This is my first Red Dragon 6k Project in premiere CC software and although I have used CC extensively since its release  I am working with a tight turnaround so making sure I have as much info as possible to troubleshoot. (if needed)
This question is directly related to the software and any known issues.  It is not hardware related as we are setup for that side of things with very fast SSD -> Thunderbolt storage and powerful machines.
Any info or experiences would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks
    Piers

Hi Piers - did you ever get an answer or figure out a good workflow for editing 6K in premiere?
If so, i'd appreciate you sharing what you've learned.
    Thanks!

  • TS1389 Problem Playing TV Show after Purchasing from iTunes

Just downloaded the Season Pass for Mad Men Season 5. When I try to play it, a window pops up saying I am not authorized to play it. Even after authorizing my computer, the screen goes gray and nothing happens. It's weird because I buy music all the time, and that works fine. Also, I'm running on OSX 10.5.8

Doublechecking. In the course of your troubleshooting to date, have you also worked through the instructions from the following document?
iTunes: Missing folder or incorrect permissions may prevent authorization

Test after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. Make sure the network is on the preferred list by following these instructions. It's important to read the article carefully, as it's the starting point for any further efforts to solve the problem. If you skip any of the steps, the problem may not be solved. Make sure the box marked
Remember networks this computer has joined
    is checked.
    2. Follow the instructions in this support article under the heading "Symptom: The network connection drops unexpectedly."
    3. Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list and recreate it with the same settings. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.
    4. From the Location menu at the top of the Network preference pane, select Edit Locations. A sheet will drop down. Click the plus-sign button to create a new location. Give it any name you want. In the new location, set up the Wi-Fi service with the same settings you used before. Click Apply and test.
    5. Launch the Keychain Access application. Search for and delete all AirPort network password items that refer to the network. Make a note of the password first.
    6. Repair permissions on the startup volume.
    7. Turn off Bluetooth and test.
    8. Reset the System Management Controller.
    9. Reset the PRAM.
    10. Reinstall OS X.
Updating to 10.9.2 did the trick. So I thought. Does anyone have a solution?
    Thanks!

  • With what frequency should I discharge and recharge my macbooks battery?

I use my Macbook as a desktop replacement and often am at home and therefore near to a wall socket; but how many times a week should I run the macbook from batteries to keep the battery healthy etc.? And when I do run it from its battery, should I let it discharge all the way till 0%, or plug it back in at 10%? 20%?

Well, yes once per month is sufficient. However, they can be re-calibrated more frequently without damage but with a slight reduction in total useful life (as limited by the lifetime number of charging cycles.) BTW, this is not specific to the Apple batteries but to most all lithium-polymer battery paks.
I might also add that the charging circuitry in the MBs and MBPs shuts off when the battery charge reaches 100 percent and does not start charging until the battery charge drops below 95 percent, so you can leave the battery installed even with the A/C adaptor in use without concern for either overcharging or overcycling.

  • I need advice after purchasing a MacBook Pro in the USA for use in the UK.

    Hello all out there,
I bought a 13 inch MacBook Pro in the USA last week and brought it back with me to the UK. I had been given an Apple World Adapter kit by the gentleman in the apple store, however I realised today that it isn't for the MacBook Pro and is only for iPads, iphones and ipods. This means that despite paying around $40, I am stuck. I need advice as to how to charge the laptop in the UK now? Is there an adapter for this or can I use any ordinary USA to UK adapter and stick it to the one I have from the USA?
Any advice would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Zainab

AFAIK, the World Adapter kit has a replacement PLUG for the power brick. What you need is just something that can go into your country's wall socket, as the power brick itself is universal and can work from 100-240 VAC, 50-60 Hz.
In other words, you ARE aware that the power brick has removable plugs on the AC end, right?

  • What problems to expect when using qmsolb65?

    Hi,
What problems can I expect when using qmsolb65.olb with designer 6i and still use qmsevh50, qmslib50 and templates of designer 6.0? Do I need to upgrade the templates as well?
The libraries qmsevh50 and qmslib50 can not be upgraded due to the fact that the customer has added and altered some functionality in these libraries.
Please, I need answers in short term as the project is fixed date.
    Best regards,
    Pascal

    Pascal,
The Headstart 6i Migration Guide, Chapter 5 Incremental Upgrade provides some detailed information on what exactly has changed between version 5.0 and 6.5. I think you might be able to use the qms*50.pll libraries with 6i, but I doubt you will be able to use the templates of Designer 6.0 with qmsolb65.olb.
    Cheers,
    Rob
