What program for backing up my windows-partition?

hey. i recently made a new partition using boot camp assistant.
its formatted as ntfs with windows 7. the problem is, i need more space.
the logical thing to do is to clone the windows-partition from os x, then delete it.
this way i could just make a new one with more space, and restore the image i cloned earlier.
ive seen many giving winclone a chance for this specific job.
i also tried winclone, but i encountered a problem which is (according to many people) due to the fact that
winclone has certain issues/problems with cloning a partition with windows 7.
after around 20 seconds into the cloning process, i get an error message.. probably
because of what i mentioned above.
a quotation "Winclone on Snow Leopard (10.6) has an issue cloning Windows 7 (NTFS) partitions. Disabling compression in Preferences may resolve this."
i would like to check in the preferences of winclone to see if disabling this compression might do the trick,
the only problem is - i cannot locate any preferences.. anywhere. how come?
and, is there a better and just as simple alternative to winclone out there, to pull this job?

Your question is a Windows question really and has nothing to do with a Mac or OS X. You may find some help in the Boot Camp forum though. Click Apple Support Communities they type Boot Camp.
Good luck.

  • How do I back up a Windows partition?

From what I've seen, Time Machine doesn't back up a Windows partition (boo!).
Could I format an external drive and put Time Machine on one partition and (some backup software for Windows) on the other one?
If so, what Windows software could I use?

how do i back up my windows partition to my time capsule hard drive

TC/TM do not support backing up NTFS file systems. Use a separate NTFS-formatted external disk (USB/Firewire/Thunderbolt) and configure it as a Windows Backup/Restore destination. W8+ also supports File History.

  • Best app or program for backing up everything on iPhone

I have just put iOS4 on my 3G and yes I lost all my contacts my calendar reminders,my notes,my book marks and some pics.Does anyone know what the best app or program is for backing up everything from my iPhone
Contacts,Calendar,Notes,Bookmarks,Pictures,Sms and anything else I've forgoten.
I've heard of Touch copy which can do all is there a better one about?

If you still have the backup file, a program like this might let you pull the data:
    http://homepage.mac.com/vaughn/msync/
I use PhoneView which is Mac-only, but TouchCopy is frequently recommended here and I've not seen bad comments about it.
As Justin said, regular syncing is the best backup. To protect myself beyond that:
I always manually move my backup file so that iTunes does not overwrite it with a new one, allowing me to roll back.
Before major syncing activities (such as setting up a new phone) I generally export an archive from my calendar and address book apps, or duplicate the database, so that if it all goes wrong I can roll back to those--I would expect Outlook has a similar feature.

  • Need walk thru for backing up Leopard/Windows systems

I have Leopard/Windows preinstalled on my intel 250Gb Imac (installed by seller of the Mac). I am tech unsavvy and would appreciate a step by step walk thru of how to back up both systems onto a single 500Gb external hard drive (assuming I am using CCC and Winclone). I am particularly confused about partitioning the external drive for this purpose. Thanks to any patient reader who can help.

No need to partition the external drive; just make sure it is formatted as Mac OS Extended using Disk Utility. Then start up CCC and clone using the default settings with the source being your main drive and the target being the external (this may take awhile). This will give you an identical clone of your main drive. Then you can run Winclone, which will copy your Windows partition to a file on whatever Mac drive that you choose. You will not be able to run Windows from the cloned file, but could use it to restore your Windows partition.

  • How to back up a Windows partition created in Boot Camp in Lion.

Hello. I have Lion installed and I already had Windows 7 installed aswell. I used boot camp. Boot Camp booted Win. 7 just fine. Then, yesterday, I tried to boot into Win. 7 and all that apeared was a Black screen with a dash in the upper left hand corner blinking. I let it sit like that for 30 minutes. I eventually lost patients and held the power button for 5 sec and booted back into Lion. I have many files in Windows 7 that I need. I have no backup of Win 7 but I do have a backup through Time Machine of when it was working. My main Question is this, when I'm in Lion, how can I back up my Windows files and make a bootable image out of it so I can reinstall it through bootcamp. I need to keep my files and there is no chance of me restoring from a past Time Machine backup as I need all of my files on Lion aswell. Oh, BTW, im using a 2011 Mac Book Pro with all the latest updates. Any help is apreciated. Thanks!

    Hi,
I used a digital copy of Windows 8.1 to install it through Boocamp. It was the MSDN version of Win 8.1.

  • Methods for backing up/cloning Bootcamp partition from inside OSX

The key here is from inside OS X, not from inside Windows (XP).
The only reason in the world I have to run Windows is because a Mac version of my accounting system doesn't exist. Well, there is also the fact that some companies still develop portions of their partner websites around IE instead of around open standards cough*CISCO*cough.
Anyway, I have a bootcamp partition and the data on it is very important (accounting system!). I run it once, maybe twice a month and it's already slow enough as Kaspersky AV runs on every bootup so I don't want to add anything to the Windows bootup. I'm looking for a method of backing up (incremental capable) or cloning (incremental capable) my Bootcamp partition from inside OS X in conjunction with the other backups I do - well, now I use Time Machine so "the other backups I do" is moot, until I backup my Time Machine partition too (been bitten by the "backups not being there when you need them for some really random, unexpected reason" bug too before).
It seems that most of the cloning tools I've tried can't clone or even backup FAT partitions. Anyone have any ideas, suggestions or previous experiences they wouldn't mind sharing?
    Thanks in advance.

Hmm, functional but not exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks for the info though -
    - Is there a tool around that can do incremental backups instead of full backups every time it's run? WinClone 1.6b doesn't seem to be able to do incremental backups.
    - Is there a tool around that fits the above requirement, but can be scheduled (or even automator'd)? Automation is a good thing The more maintenance tasks we (users) have to do manually, the more there is to forget to do.

  • I have an ipad and iphone with a pc laptop at home. I have a program called "Passkeepers on the laptop that keeps track of all my passwords. Can I tranasfer this file to  my ipad or iphone. If yes, how if now what program for ipad or iphone do I need?

Oh nice, there's a PassKeeper application for the iPhone and iPad.  Simply install it and it should talk you through steps, otherwise their website is probably a great place to check.

I really like the application 1Password, and it works across all the products, Mac, PC, iPad, iPhone.

  • Java program for installing font on windows

    Hi,
I want to write a java program that installs required fonts on windows machine. On my machine windows is installed on "C:\WINDOWS" directory.
So, naturally "c:\WINDOWS\Fonts" directory I want to paste my font files.
I am writing file handling code for the same. But, how to know dynamically the location of windows installation directory?
I tried using System.getProperty("windir"), but it is not working?
    Can somebody help me?
    regards,

    1) Use VB
    2) Who said that such a property exists?
    3) In Java 1.5, use System.getEnv()

I don't use Allegro, but I went digging and found what might be the answer to your questions.  Apparently, if you run 'allegro-config' on the command line, it will show you the compiler/linker flags you need.  You can just copy those into your Geany project settings.

    Thanks a lot
    By using:

  • Time mashine backup of Mac-HD and  the windows-partition

Hi, I`m new in this forum, so I beg pardon if I make some misdtakes. I just got my new Macbook pro and everything works perfekt. On my old days (68) I left Windows and I`very satisfied with the easy handling. Becakuse I need to use some Windows-prograqms, I made a partition for Windows. But the Time-mashine does not save the datas of this part. What have I to do? What have I missed to do?
    Thanks for help.

Additionally, you probably do not want to use Time Machine to back up your Windows partition, because that Windows partition is treated as a single large file and every time it has any change at all Time Machine will copy the entire partition again to your backup drive, rapidly filling your backup drive.
So any very large file that changes frequently, such as a Windows partition or, for that matter, an Entourage database, should be backed up by different means.

  • How do I replace my internal hard drive and not lose windows partition?

    Hello,
I am wanting to swap my internal hard drive out for a larger one. What do I do about my windows partition? I only use boot camp, and there is some stuff on my windows side I don't want to lose. I know how to make a clone for OSX, and I know how to replace the actual hard drive, it's just the windows that I am a little sketchy on.
    Thanks for your help.

WinClone - check the faq and forum for tips and read the docs
    http://www.twocanoes.com
Pull your hard drive and put it in external case, OWC sells such kits, you could probably use a good windows clone program too.
but you need room on an (external) hard drive to hold the Windows image (uses a sparse disk image file is all).
Paragon Software has been busy releasing programs and updates to help Mac users running Windows, using NTFS (and EXT2/3), as well as CampTune (free for now) for resizing Windows or linux boot camp partitions.

  • Windows partition corrupt, how to backup files to another PC?

    Hello Everybody,
I have a Macbook with a Windows partition, Windows XP to be exact which now loads a Black screen with a blinking cursor and cannot get past that point. I would attempt to fix it, but I have done some research and found that chances are I will need to restore it and not get my files back. So I figured the most important thing to do now is to find a way to retrieve and backup the files that are in there. I can load the Mac Partition, but it just so happens that most of the files I want to save are in the Windows.
    My question is:
    1. Can I just pull out the hard drive from the Macbook, put it in an external hard drive enclosure, and plug it into another PC to pull out the files?
    or
    2. Is there a way to access these Windows files from the Mac OS Partition?
Your help is very much appreciated.
    Best Regards,
    Lewis

    1. Yes, I think you can use that drive in an external enclosure. If you plug it into Windows, it will probably see both partitions on the drive but you'll only be able to read the Windows partition. This is probably your best bet for backing up your Windows files.
    2. Yes, you should be able to access the files from OSX. Depending on the version of Boot Camp, you might have this functionality already -- check to see if your bootcamp/windows drive shows up on your desktop or in Finder.
If it's not there, you can use a 3rd party app to read and write to that partition. Paragon might be a good choice, and they have a free trial you can try to see if it gives you what you need. http://www.paragon-software.com/home/ntfs-mac/
There are other solutions, even free ones, to allow OSX access to NTFS drives, but I can't vouch for any of them.

  • Windows Partition Corrupt?!?

    Hello everyone,
I was in Windows a few hours ago doing some stuff. I restarted into Mac OSX. Then, I wanted to go back into Windows. It loads, and then it shows me the blue screen of death. When I turn on the computer and press the Alt/Option key, it shows me that there is a windows partition, but it doesn't work. In Disk Utility on the Mac, it shows me that the name of the Windows partition is "-n", and it doesn't show me the Windows Drive's icon on the desktop or in the Finder.
    What is going on?
How can I recover my data?
    Thanks,
