What program to install and convert video formats...?

I am trying to find a program that will install on 10.3.9 and that can convert video formats (ie mpg and mp4 to wmv). Any suggestions and help would be greatly appreciated. I did buy a newer Mac (PowerBook G4 with Leopard) but for now need to use my old Mac. I need to convert to WMV to use on my GoGear mp3 player, which is NOT Mac compatible, only Windows. Well ffmpeg should be included by default. It is the core of the VH engine, but it may have been updated since your version of VH. And you may not need it depending on the conversion you are trying to make. Which version of VH is it ?
So you are trying to convert the mpeg and mp4 files into wmv. Do you select the 320 pixels wide option ? Are the source movies 320 pixels wide ? or larger ?
What settings do you use in VH ? ie. Which tab do you select for converting to ? and what options do you select within it ?
Do you change the destination directory ?
If you open the mkv files in QuickTime, it may complain about missing codecs, click Cancel and it'll leave you with a blank window. Select "Show Movie Properties" under the Window menu, what is under "Format" for the Video Track ? Is there also an Audio Track ?
QuickTime shouln't complain about the movie, mpeg and mp4 should open and play just fine. If it does complain it's almost certain that the files are not the format they claim to be - the Show Movie Properties will sort this out.

You need the appropriate app such as Buzz Player. You can also use a converter program such as Handbrake to convert them and them sync them to your iPod.

What's the deal with the video format?

Hello! What is the deal with the video format? Does it mean I have to code the videos for 640*480 ? It won't accept any other size? What size do I need to select for widescreen format?
With Quicktime pro I've been able to encode videos with a very nice resolution and small size, then try to synch them to the ipod touch and then the error, it can't be played. I use the .mov format, I like it more but if I have to use .mp4 then I'll use it.

What packages to install, and how to install in an USB hard drive

Well, as I said in another thread, I want to install in an USB hard drive. But I don't know how, because it hasn't graphical installer, but text installer. I tried in a virtual machine, and it was fine, but when I want to start it, an error appears, "Was not found a bootable system" or something. Maybe a VM is not as a computer, but... well. I didn't change anything while I was installing GRUB, and I know that I've to install it in /dev/sdb.
And I want to know too, what packages to install and what packages don't (the ones which are neither "base" nor "base-devel"). But I'll install sudo, links and ndiswrapper (for wifi).

Transferring 8mm and other video formats

I'm doing lots of video projects in FCE for people with older video formats like 8mm. I was going to just buy a 8mm camcorder to play these tapes because I figured I can get one relatively inexpensive ($100 or so) and just use it as my player. I know there are also player decks for these tapes that are more expensive ($300ish) and I was just wondering what other video editors out there were using? An old camera or did you buy a player. Any tips or advice regarding brands, places to look, would be appreciated.

You will need to buy a Digital8 camcorder. FCE won't take the regular 8 or Hi8 video without it being converted to digital. A Digital8 camcorder can play regular 8 and Hi8 tapes and can also convert them for use with FCE.

Does anybody know can I import a video file and convert the footage to iPod compatible format using vbscript?
I found a COM function 'convertfile', but it seems only work with audio and doesn't work with mpg files. Does the current version of COM SDK 6.0.2.23 support conversion of mpg?

Thanks, but I know iTunes 6 (windows version) has a built-in function to convert a video to a format for iPod G5. That's why I wonder if the iTunes Windows COM SDK has the function call so that I can automatically import my scheduled recording to iPod. I think that's the advantage of iTunes / iPod. Actually I love my iPod G3 and iPod mini, but I don't see a reason for me to upgrade to G5 if it only accept H264 and mp4 because all my recordings (directly from my TV card) are only mpeg format and there is currently no command line tools to convert them for iPod. I know a bit of programming and it is much more conveninent to use scripts to do the mpg -> ipod conversion automatically than doing it manually using GUI programs..

Opening .exe files/Converting video format

Is there a way to open .exe files on my MacBookPro? (There is no virtually pc emulator for the MbookP, yet). Also, what I am trying to do is convert music video files that I downloaded to .mp4 file format so I can watch them on my iPod....Unfortunately I have no clue what I am doing, and I don't know of any freeware. If you know how to do this-Post!

You can open .exe files on intel mac by booting into windows XP but that would involve using bootcamp

Storing and converting videos and slideshows (Mac OS)

hi all, new user here.
i have a host of files with some coming from my PC days and am currently using Aperture to store and create m4v and mov files.
right now i have AVI, mpg, mp4, PDF etcetera etcetera that i am trying to organize. when i doubleclick on some of these files they open in AME and i am guessing this means that i need to associate the file type with some other software or if i should convert them to a more convenient format such as mov or m4v which Aperture recognizes. so right now these files are just sitting in a file folder in various formats since Aperture does not appear very good at recognizing some of these video formats.
i would like to /store/ this data in a database or in software that will allow me to get it all organized and i am wondering if Bridge is a good place to do this or if user recommend LR or if there is in fact an adobe product to get this data organized.
i think ideally i would put all images and slideshows and videos in one place but i am guessing this means i would have to convert my videos to some file format (say mov or m4v for Aperture) so i am also wondering if this is a good way to go and if Adobe Media Encoder is the proper tool for this.
any sage advice is really welcome.
P.S. i also have PDF and EPS which both don't seem to play nice with aperture.

Although there sometimes are problems with certain video files Bridge is the correct application to start for organizing your files. You can use the filter panel to only show certain file types, you can rename, rate and label the files, etc etc.
Some video files should be able to play in the preview window. It pays multiple pages PDF also in the preview window although there can be problems with PDF from InDesign showing all content.
You can use the folder panel for easy drag and drop files in different folders.
Anyway, before experimenting make sure to have a proper back up of your files and then start playing around freely to learn more about Bridge.

I have some movies (Quicktime and Media Player movies) and I want to convert them to AAC so I can use them for my Ipod.
Problem is I don't know how to do that.
I've tried a lot of convertingprograms, but I couldn't find AAC converters.

I try to convert a mpg video to mp4 but it just converts the image but without sound. What can I do?

Quicktime can't convert mpeg 1 and 2 videos.
