What program will catalogue video like Aperture does photos?

I use Aperture to catalogue all my photos using Metadata and Keywords for search criteria. Is there a similar program for video or do I have to spend $1000 for Final Cut Server? Just trying to save money!

Thanks. I am researching it now and catDV looks pretty good. I am still hoping that my work will buy me Final Cut Server, but this just may work in the mean time. Thanks for the pointer!

Is there a way to get lightroom to search the computer for catalogs like aperture does? I've switched over from Aperture to Lightroom, and i liked how in Aperture when i went to open "other library" it would basically scan all connected drives for them, and show me when last opened and what version. Is there a way to do this with Lightroom, either in program or by a third party app?

What worked good is the import of the APERTURE Archive ( 40000 objects ) took me one night and its there with the above obsticles!!! I am using just three days and I have to say

As JimHess stated, there is no risk working with the masters.
Chromatic aberation correction is available in Lightroom, searching the entire catalog is available in Lightroom.
With regards to your other comments, the idea that Lightroom should work the same (or very similar) to Aperture is one that you should remove from your thoughts. It will only get you into trouble. Lightroom is not Aperture and will not work the same, and has different underlying principles, and so its pointless to think you will be able to do everything the same way you did it in Aperture. You need to be open to Lightroom's features, and Lightroom's way of doing things. I agree with JimHess that it takes most people a while to learn Lightroom's way of doing things, but your patience will be rewarded.

I believe you are looking for a lightweight image browser/viewer that supports basic editing. I highly recommend Lyn and believe it is the exact program for your purposes. It is $20, but you are offered a free 30$ trial.

Upgraded to Lion, CS3 programs will only let me open 1 photo per session, what gives?

Just upgraded to Lion from Snow Leopard. Now my CS3 Creative Suite programs will only let me open one picture per session. I then have to completely close out of photoshop or illustrator or whatever and reopen to open another picture. Any suggestions before I have to take my computer to the apple store.

I'm not sure the Apple Store will troubleshoot 3rd party software that is 3 versions old.

What program will update the current temperature in Mavericks 10.9.1?

We have tried YoWindow3 and Weather.com with no success. So what can we use to display the current weather/temperature on the Desktop? Both of those programs do display the temperature, but they do not automatically update it as they did on our Windows system. If we start at 50 degrees, it will stay 50 degrees all day and night until we open the weather program itself, at which time it will update the temperature to the current temperature one time ... until we again manually refresh it. Is there any weather program that will actually refresh the temperature display on its own?

No, not Dashboard, as that requires bringing up the dashboard. Nor Safari as that means having Safari open to view it. But on the Menu bar at the top of the screen, the programs we have tried display the current temperature on that top bar, but do not upgrade it. We would like to see it when doing whatever without having to open or switch to a specific screen or program. When creating a document or spreadsheet, or when listening to music or viewing pictures, or doing anything else that does not necessarily leave the Dashboard nor Safari open. We are new to Macs, so pardon me if I am using the wrong terminology. In Windows, this would have been called the Title Bar, Menu Bar, or even Toolbar.

FYI using other programs to input video like after effects

Like using after effects or motion or what have you. Export the video as a mov in the codec of Photo jpeg. It plays back in imovie perfectly Compeki!

I restarted my computer and it appears these programs work now.
I should not have needed to do that, however it cleared the problem.

I need help with closing a running program. It seems like it does not count as a program. Tried to turn of the computer and closing all programs. Please help!?

I have a problem with a grey text box. It writes and says all i do. For example: When i now write it says all the letters one for one. If i open a new rogram it says so. If i click on something it gives me information about it. I can click the box and drag it, but dont close it. I have restarted the computer and closing all windows and programs. It just popped out when i was pressing some buttons on the mac. I think it is a easy way to fix it, but i cant find out what it is named and search for it. I think it is made for help and i did not download anything to get it. If i change user on the mac it does go away when I am on the other user, but i really want to keep the one i have because off all the settings and programs i have.
Please reply if you know anything about this.

What camera will export video directly to an iPad????

Besides an iPhone, and iPod touch, and the iPad itself, what camcorders or digital cameras will interface directly with an iPad, such that you can import video WITHOUT being tethered to another computer?
Flip video won't, nor will Sony's Bloggie. My Panasonic Lumix shoots quite nice video, but it won't import directly to my iPad -- still images will, but not the video.
Apple's web page, nor the folks at the Apple store here in Richmond, do not have a list of other cameras will work directly with iPad.
It would be really useful to have a list of point and shoot digital cameras and digital camcorders that would work, e.g., be recognized and link directly with the iPad.
I'm going on a trip to Italy in June and won't have another computer to tether thru. I need a 'stand-alone' combination, e.g., my iPad2 and camera X!

What program will translate appleworks database files

Years ago I created a simple database in Clarisworks. The appleworks was able to concert this no problem. No I'm on system 7 and I need to access this DB. Is there a program that will convert this properly?

First: Do you still have the platform that you wrote the CW DB (ClarisWorks Database) on? Is it a Mac program?
Second: If the original database is still available on a current running Mac, you can export the data (tab-delimited) to a generic database file (see your list of available formats in your Save as… options from the original database.
Third: Review the fields and sequences of your original data and be sure you are ready to import the orginal data into the new database in the exact sequence as exported.
For more help, review all your old CW manuals for help in this laborious process.
Fourth: If you are able to print out the old database, that's a great head start to reviewing the data and the layout and sequences, and to perhaps re-doing it from scratch in a revised manner.

Link externally edited files to the original, like Aperture does

This is one thing I really like about Aperture - when you edit files externally, Aperture keeps track of them, and keeps them associated with the original. That little bit of housekeeping is a very nice touch.

From the way you are describing the display issue this sounds like a bug that I have been screaming at Apple about for about 9 months. The bug is in CoreImage and effects everything in OS X that uses the coreimage library to display PSD files.
The issue is caused by having ANY saved alpha channels in an image, these are either created manually by you or automatically by saving a selection. Check the PSD in photoshop, click the channels tab and look for any channel that is not part of the color model itself, if one is there it is causing the display issue. If you do not need this channel then just delete it, if you must have it for some reason the work around is to load the alpha channel into a blank layer layer mask and then get rid of it. If you need it back reverse the process. Bottom line if you have a save an alpha channel it will display all wild and crazy everywhere in OS X that uses core image.

What program will open .JPG in email attachment

Searched the forum but couldn't find an answer. I keep getting emails with .JPG attachments but it says that there is no program on the phone to open the attachment. Went to the Play Store and tried a couple but they didn't work. Probably something simple but I'm not seeing it. Help!

I just double checked and I have received attachments from this same individual where it gives me the save or view option and I can open the picture attachments. I'm begining to think it depends on what format or program he's using to take the picture. Even though both come to me as JPGs, there might be a different format. I'm gonna contact him and see what he's using. Thanks for the resonses and if you think of something, please post.

What program will work with SFTP backup program in 5.0(4)?

Who know how to backup the data from CM5.0(4) server to remote host via SFTP progarm?? The CM does not include a backup tape system, the CM only allow backup the data to remote side with SFTP. We had tried shareware from internet, but it does not work.
No availiable SFTP program from Cisco site is free for download.

If you're on a mac, there is Office, there is LibreOffice, there is NeoOffice, there is Pages. These you have to go get. Office and Pages cost money. There is also TextEdit (included on the Mac).
