What program will translate appleworks database files

Years ago I created a simple database in Clarisworks. The appleworks was able to concert this no problem. No I'm on system 7 and I need to access this DB. Is there a program that will convert this properly?

First: Do you still have the platform that you wrote the CW DB (ClarisWorks Database) on? Is it a Mac program?
Second: If the original database is still available on a current running Mac, you can export the data (tab-delimited) to a generic database file (see your list of available formats in your Save as… options from the original database.
Third: Review the fields and sequences of your original data and be sure you are ready to import the orginal data into the new database in the exact sequence as exported.
For more help, review all your old CW manuals for help in this laborious process.
Fourth: If you are able to print out the old database, that's a great head start to reviewing the data and the layout and sequences, and to perhaps re-doing it from scratch in a revised manner.
Just a few ideas;

Now that I have more information, here's the issue in summary:
A coworker is working on a training program for facilitators, total 3.5 hours long.
Part of it includes a video, after which the viewer should be able to select one of several vignettes, smaller videos. At the conclusion of those, the viewer should be able to print a certificate.
The coworker created a video in Adobe Premier, and then accompanying menus in Adobe Encore. If we heard them right, the web developers said that the entire project (videos and menus) must be in MPEG-4, and we discovered that Encore can't do that. Encore could do it in Flash; the developers do not want that.
I think what is going on here is a misunderstanding. It sounds like they want an interactive presentation. The video can be MPEG-4 from Premier. The Menu interactivity is something else, since MPEG-4 is not interactive. Flash is the only way I know of to keep the interactivity. Someone needs to ask the web developers what they are expecting.
What do you guys suggest, besides a plain old HTML menu page with hyperlinked buttons on it?

Firefox keeps asking me what program to use to open file types even though I have selected one and checked "do this for all files of this type" going foward

I am working in Windows and every time I open an attachment, Firefox asks what program to use to open files of this type. I always select the proper program and then check the box that says use this program for all future files of this type. In spite of that, the program continues to ask for every file. How do I turn off this feature and just have the program remember the correct program to use for each type of file extension?

Regardless of your download preferences, web servers can trigger a download prompt by sending either the ''Content-Type: application/octet-stream'' or the ''Content-Disposition: attachment'' header. You can check if that's the case by examining the server response headers in the [https://developer.mozilla.org/docs/Tools/Web_Console Web Console].
For the latter problem install the InlineDisposition add-on and see if it helps.

Saving an AppleWorks database file as text

I could have sworn that I had success last week opening an AppleWorks database file, choosing "Save As..." and then saving my database as a text file. However, I am trying to do this right now, and "text" is not available as an option when I choose "Save As..." I'm starting to wonder if maybe I am mistaken and that I was never able to do this. I have read several forum posts where folks have made reference to "save your database as text," but I'm starting to doubt that this can be done. If an AppleWorks database CANNOT be saved as text, then I am stunned. I recently bought FileMaker Pro 8.5, and I would be absolutely bewildered if there was no way to move an AppleWorks database over to FileMaker. Converting to text isn't pretty, but at least that would work. But is it true that I am not able to save an AppleWorks database as text? Is there any other way to move data from an AppleWorks database file to FileMaker?

Saving as text is the only way to transfert AW6 data to FileMaker.
As you are unable to do that, I assumes that you moved AppleWorks out of its standard folder where it must stay with its companions folders:

AppleWorks Essentials
The translators are stored in "AppleWorks Essentials:Translators" folder.
If you moved the app, it would be unable to find (and use) these translators.
I wish to add that I don't like this formulae.
When I need to save a database as a text file, I activate a layout containing all the fields (at least all those which are not calculated ones.
I select Options > Show all records then, I copy all ans paste into a new WP documentwhich I save as an ASCII file.
Doing that,
-- I keep the contents of longtext fields (1004 characters)
-- I keep the comma which is used in france as decimal separator (it is replaced by a period when I save directly as a text file).

What App will open a .pub file?

What App will open a .pub file? I tried ePub Reader and it doesn't work.

I'm not aware of anything on a Mac that will allow you to edit .pub files.
If you just need to view it, perhaps the person who sent it to you could save it as a PDF?
There are online tools that will do conversion as well, like zamzar.com. Not the best solution long-term but it may do the trick in a pinch.
But if you need to edit, I'm pretty sure you need a Windows PC with Office installed.

At what point will gaining an audio file introduce noise or distortion?

I know that in the mastering process an entire stereo mix file will be gained by at least 6 db or so. My question is: At what point will gaining the signal become problematic.
I'm talking specifically about gaining an *audio file*, I'm not referring to gaining a software instrument track.

It's the man of a thousand questions...
There's no rule(s) regarding mastering as it varies according the genre and can even vary from track to track. Mastering doesn't necessarily have anything to to do with gain unless it's to balance tracks so the album/CD/DVD has cohesiveness.
Regarding digital distortion:
The simple answer is, don't go over 0 <zero> DB, although peak levels with short durations can be tolerated.
There's two main avenues regarding distortion... peak level and RMS level.
The lower (moving towards 0db) the RMS level, the less dynamics you will have and the more overall gain the file will have.. when I produce commercials I generally keep the RMS level at around -15db, this gives a fairly constant level with just enough peaks and valleys that I can stand listening to it. Some rock/dance producers master down to -12 or -10db.
To show how insane the loudness wars are I've seen tracks mastered at -8db and have heard of tracks being mastered at -6db or less. At this point there are virtually no dynamics every bit of the audio spectrum is used, it's a wall of sound. Even if the peak level never goes over 0db the RMS power can cause less than quality audio systems to distort as the preamps break up from input gain.
Something to think about, you might want to do some research on your own, people giving you answers IS NOT learning.
Also... learn a little about the history of mastering, how it was originally conceived as opposed to how it is used today.

Read AppleWorks database files

I have a database file (.cwk) created with AppleWorks that I created on a iBook G4. The computer was stolen so I bought a MacBookPro with the Leopard OS. Now I am unable to read/import the data from this file.
Does anyone have a suggestion on how to solve this problem?

Welcome to Apple Discussions and the AppleWorks forum.
To my knowledge, the only application that can open an AppleWorks 6 database file is AppleWorks 6.
You'll need to buy a copy of AW 6 and install it on your MBP, or find someone with AW 6, to open the files. Once you've done that, you can export them in a form that other applacations can open, or you can use them immediately in AW 6.
Hard Core Mac has AW 6.2.4 available. Apple may still have AW 6.2.9, but you'll have to phone the online Apple store (the number is at the bottom of the Store's front page) and ask for the Legacy Software list. This might require more than one call, as not all Apple Store reps are familiar with the Legacy Software list.

What program will update the current temperature in Mavericks 10.9.1?

We have tried YoWindow3 and Weather.com with no success. So what can we use to display the current weather/temperature on the Desktop? Both of those programs do display the temperature, but they do not automatically update it as they did on our Windows system. If we start at 50 degrees, it will stay 50 degrees all day and night until we open the weather program itself, at which time it will update the temperature to the current temperature one time ... until we again manually refresh it. Is there any weather program that will actually refresh the temperature display on its own?

No, not Dashboard, as that requires bringing up the dashboard. Nor Safari as that means having Safari open to view it. But on the Menu bar at the top of the screen, the programs we have tried display the current temperature on that top bar, but do not upgrade it. We would like to see it when doing whatever without having to open or switch to a specific screen or program. When creating a document or spreadsheet, or when listening to music or viewing pictures, or doing anything else that does not necessarily leave the Dashboard nor Safari open. We are new to Macs, so pardon me if I am using the wrong terminology. In Windows, this would have been called the Title Bar, Menu Bar, or even Toolbar.

What program will open .JPG in email attachment

Searched the forum but couldn't find an answer. I keep getting emails with .JPG attachments but it says that there is no program on the phone to open the attachment. Went to the Play Store and tried a couple but they didn't work. Probably something simple but I'm not seeing it. Help!

I just double checked and I have received attachments from this same individual where it gives me the save or view option and I can open the picture attachments. I'm begining to think it depends on what format or program he's using to take the picture. Even though both come to me as JPGs, there might be a different format. I'm gonna contact him and see what he's using. Thanks for the resonses and if you think of something, please post.

What program will catalogue video like Aperture does photos?

I use Aperture to catalogue all my photos using Metadata and Keywords for search criteria. Is there a similar program for video or do I have to spend $1000 for Final Cut Server? Just trying to save money!

Fed up with iWeb's idiosyncrasies! What program accepts the FTP output file from iWeb with the least amount of work required?

I have been a longtime user of iWeb and have learned many things about it the hard way. Now even after duplicating and saving my domain names constantly to external hard drives, downloading additional software such as iWebdrop and iWeb SEO, learning how to unhide files that shouldn't be hidden in the first place, and consistently finding the elusive domain files, I find myself, yet again, searching high and low for the updated domain that I spent two days doing a major rehaul on. I have proof that I wasn't dreaming as it's currently up on my website and I have the exported FTP file.
So after years of crying over lost iWeb domains I've decided it time to make the leap to different software.
I need something akin to iWeb as I'm not at all versed in HTML. My main goal is to minimize the amount of work by using the FTP files I exported last night.
I've read the recomendations here but just want a simple solution with no HTML coding needed.

Nope. It's just no where to be found.
I mentioned in another post that during this entire episode an icon with files from my old mobile me account kept popping up. I kept having to eject it and I thought maybe that might have something to do with the issue.
Though it was there this morning, now I can't find that icon anywhere.
This must be the fifth time I've had issues like this which is why I'm fed up and feel the need to move on.
I wish there was some way to reverse engineer the FTP file.

Who know how to backup the data from CM5.0(4) server to remote host via SFTP progarm?? The CM does not include a backup tape system, the CM only allow backup the data to remote side with SFTP. We had tried shareware from internet, but it does not work.
No availiable SFTP program from Cisco site is free for download.

Appleworks cwk files will not open in pages or numbers

I use AppleWorks 6.2.9. Since my upgrade to 10.6.8 AppleWorks will not permit the settings in any document to be changed with first quitting AppleWorks, removing the plist, restarting AW, and opening the file a second time. This is annoying. So, I am looking into moving to Pages and Numbers for my AW word processing and spreadsheet documents. Pages '09 trail was downloaded from the network and no document selected can be opened by either program. I simply get a dialog stating "File could not be opened".
Nor will Pages or Numbers opened these files that were translated into a different format by MacLinkPlus. Basically Pages and Numbers can not process and .cwk, .doc, or .xls file on my computer.
I am looking for solutions.

I don't have any Appleworks files but Numbers & Pages users manuals say they will import Appleworks 6 files. I can't say why yours will not if they are Appleworks 6 documents.
I also don't have MacLinkPlus but it might be doing one of two things: saving in a pre-'97 format of Excel or saving with non-standard header information in the file that Numbers does not understand.
I'm not being of much help so far. I've been looking all over and haven't found a solution for you. Sorry.
