What protection do you use with VG224s?

We have many VG224s in production.  Nearby lightning strikes kill ports on the VG224.
The cabling has protection on it - from the old Western Electric 701 PBX.  However, that switch delivers 52 volts at 39 milliamps, and the Cisco VG224 is much lower.
The protection on the cable plant was designed for the Western Electric switch.
What is the best practice?  When changing out PBXs for VGs, do we have to change out the protection, and if so, what is recommended?

Hello,
The VG224 is designed for on premises applications which is generally
for internal building use. If you are having issues with lightning strikes
blowing up the interfaces, then it appears that you are using the VG224 as an Off
Premises Extension  with long/exposed cable runs which are susceptible to
picking up RFI and EMI. The VG224 was not designed to be used for OPX use and
we would not be recommending it in environments where cable runs are exposed to
lightning even with external protection.
Normally you would use an external line driver/isolator to drive the long
distances and provide isolation/protection. These are often called Long Loop
Adapters. Here is an example -
http://www.telcom-data.com/products/VIK-LLA-1.aspx
Our newer FXS modules support an "OPX lite' mode which drives longer distances
and has better protection -

Hope that helps!

  • What browser are you using with OS 9.x?

Would you all please state which internet browser you are using with OS 9.x and the strengths/weaknesses you are experiencing with it?
I switch back and forth between Mozilla and Internet Explorer but fewer and fewer websites work properly with them. If there is a better browser than those two I would add it to my old Wallstreet running 0S 9.1.
Again, what browser are you using with OS 9.x and what are its good/bad points?
    Thanks!

I have an iCab filter set up for Yahoo on my OS 9.2.1 iMac.
For the URL string I use (asterisk)yahoo(asterisk)
For the Scripts filter I use the Netscape identity and have all versions checked except "JScript", and everything is checked in the "Allow" section.
For the Network filter I use the Firefox identity and have the HTTP "referer" set to "Always".
I don't use Yahoo Mail much on that machine, but those settings allow me to use the Address book to select addresses and send messages with attachments. (I'm not sure about viewing attachments, though, and I'm almost positive that address auto-complete doesn't work.)

  • What display do you use with your 2005 Mac mini?

    Hi all,
I was wondering which displays people are using with their 2005 Mac minis and
which (if any) adapters are necessary?
    Thanks!
    Mike

I'm using a Magnavox 15" LCD TV via it's VGA input on my day one mini. The original 2005 minis have a full sized normal DVI output and came with a DVI to VGA adapter. If yours no longer has that, it's the only adapter you'd need for most common computer monitors. Many newer monitors come with DVI already, so no adapter would be needed.

  • What LMS are you using with UPK?

I have been using UPK for about 2 years. I have been tasked with finding an LMS for our organization. If you are using an LMS, please let me know what you are using, what you like and don't like about it.

    Hi
We are using Janison - LMS Vs 7.01
Its a bit clunky and visually not what you call cutting edge.
We have over 2.5k users in 13 different institutes who are all tested on the LMS and we use SCORM 1.2 to score a 80% pass.
    No pass - no access.
Wouldnt recommend Janison but it may have been our initial setup of the file structure that is causing a lot of our problems and lack or reporting options.
    Cheers
    J.

  • What tablet do you use with Creative Cloud / Apps?

Hello, I am look for a tablet to run Creative Cloud apps. Does anyone have first have experience? Comparing the iPad 2 Air to the Galaxy and possibly the Surface Pro (... but Surface that gets into a different price range). This would supplement my current desktop / laptop workflow.
    Thanks! Dave

If I had the choice (and the cash), I'd probably go with the Surface Pro or the forthcoming Surface 3 (a budget-conscious version of the Surface Pro). The reason is because of full desktop app support like Photoshop CC and full access to your assets on Creative Cloud. You'd pretty much mirror your desktop experience with a little less power and be mobile.
I use a Google Nexus 7 2013 myself; it's great for what it is (as are most of Apple and Google's devices) and apps designed for it like Photoshop Touch are great on it. There's just one problem: It isn't desktop Photoshop.

  • What screen do you use, with your MBP?

    Hiya,
im lookin for more screen real estate. what do you guys use? im kind of eyen' the Acds...???
    Thanks.

I have been using a 23-inch Apple Cinema Display for two years now, and I have loved every minute of it!
I have never had any problems at all, and I have had the monitor running solid for those two years.
Before my Apple Cinema Display, I had tried displays from Dell and Samsung, both of which had to be returned due to defects.
In the studio, I connect my MacBook Pro to a Sharp Aquos TV, which has always performed exceptionally well too.
    Good luck!

  • What camcorder are you using with FCE that's compatible

I'd like to hear from folks so other folks know what's compatible and what is not. I know Apple has a list but it's outdated. old, and not comprehensive. By you stating what make & model your camcorder is and if it works with FCE will help a lot of folks.

    Hi Sheila.
The Apple list causes more trouble than it is worth.
There are possibly thousands of cameras out there but testing is so time-consuming that Apple has only tested a handful - probably all those on the list!
I think you will find that (almost) every mini-DV camera in the world, equipped with FireWire, will work OK in FCE.
You probably stand a greater chance of being struck by lightning than of buying a new camera that will not work.
Having said that, some Canon owners have experienced problems - which have usually been curable.
If you buy from a local dealer you might be able to come to an agreement that you can return the camera in the highly unlikely case that it is not compatible with FCE.
I believe some dealers will let you borrow cameras for short evaluation periods. (I don't expect the large "box-shifters" will do this).
    Ian.

  • What Case are you using with FS7?

Any suggestions for a hard case that could hold camera, lens and evf? Thanks!

I just received my PXW-FS7K with the 28-135 kit lens on Jan 2 and now have it placed in this bag: http://cvp.com/index.php?t=product/sony_lcs-g1bp . I had done a lot of research and saw this bag on the introductory video for the FS7. I believe it is only available in Europe and don't know if it still manufactured.
I am able to fit a fully assembled FS7K with lens hood, the remote arm assembly and an AT835ST microphone into the bag. I do have the mic-holder mounted upside down (permanently) but this also protects the microphone in regular use. I also have a Sigma 18-35 lens with hood and case; the Sony LAEA4 adaptor for the Sigma lens; the FS7 Loupe placed in a pocket with drawstring and the new Sony on-camera light HVL_LBPC in a black pouch - this is all in the main compartment.
In 2 side compartments on both ends of the bag, I have 1-BPU90; 3-BPU60s; 2-BPU30's (for the HVL-LBPC light).
In front compartment BC-U1 battery charger and a Portabrace media pouch with 10 XQD 128 G series cards and misc. items in little compartments inside the front pouch.
There is still some spare room in the main compartment to fit a couple of small Prime lenses.
This bag is just under 10" high so it shouldn't present overhead bin problems except for the small commuter airlines.
Everything fits snugly but does not need to be forced to put it in the bag - I have turned the bag upside down and on either side and nothing moves.
I like the idea of pulling the camera out fully assembled, right side up and only having to attach the Loupe when needed.
The entire assembly weighs 30 pounds. I also got a Samsonite Luggage Compact Folding Cart to wheel it through airports. I have a couple of pics posted on the dvxuser forum : http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?331233-FS7-Bag-suggestion&p=1986508738&viewfull=1#post1986508738

  • What Monitor Do You Use With Your Macbook Pro

I was looking into purchasing a new monitor for my Macbook Pro. It is an older one, 15" 2.5 GHz. I was going to bite the bullet and get the Apple 24" LED one knowing it is a great monitor overlooking that price is almost double of other monitors. But looking at the compatibility, I have to get a $150 adapter which I think puts me over the price hit.
Just wondering what monitor/displays is everyone using that don't require a $150 adapter?

Go to Apple menu -> About This Mac -> More info and tell us your Machine ID.  This will say MacBook Pro x,y.  It is those x,y values we need to know.

  • What Camera are you using?

    Hi,
What camera are you using for you shot?Let share about the Semi Pro cam together: Fix Lens with manual Focus and Zoom,Affortable Price...

Well, before I got my Digital Rebel XT I dreamed of the Powershot S2 IS. Then the S3 came out...but I was hookoed on my Rebel XT. I hear the S5 is a monster...
Now, my 20D is probably more prosumer. I wouldn't call it a pro camera, although it is legendary for it's use on the sports areana and weddings by pros. For my money, any camera with a pop-up flash and automatic modes is not a pro camera. Having said that, I hope no one starts throwing eggs and tomatoes!
