What Ram is compatible with the Late 2008 Macbook pro

hi iv had my 15" 2.66GHz intle dual core late 2008 Macbook pro since early 2009 and now i have decided to upgrade from 4GB to 8GB ram cause now its quite cheap now. so iv bought the 2 packs of 8GB DDR 3 1066MHz Corsair for €40 each off ebay 1 for me and one for a friend of mine he has a Macbook pro 13" late 2009 2.5GHz intel dual core and his MBP works with now problems and there was a noticeable FPS upgrade when he played starcraft 2 which he can play on medium settings before was low but anyway so when i finally got a chance to install the x2 4GB sticks they would freeze my Macbook after a few seconds of booting into osx Lion 64bit so at first i thought the ram was f**ked but my friend let me use his 8GB ram that he had working in his MBP and it still froze so right now im back the 4GB so my question is what have i done wrong here is there a certain type of ram i should use or is my machine capable for 8GB ram but it should because its using the same MOBO as the 2009 MBP would i need a kext of kernnel update any help would really appreciated.

  • Is the Kingston SSD 240GB Sata3 2.5" SSDNow V 200 compatible with a LATE 2011 Macbook Pro 13?

I need to know if it is 100% compatible and not give me problems in the future.
    I hope some help, thanks!!!

Kingston Hyper X is compatible with your Macbook.
Another SSD to look at is the Samsung 830 Series and Sandisk Extreme.
There are a few of us here using the Crucial M4.  I have the 256GB and 512GB Crucial M4 drives.
As for the RAM.  You can use Crucial, Mushkin, Corsair and Patriot.
I use Crucial on my Late 2011 Macbook Pro 15 Inch and Patriot Signature Series on my Late 2011 13 Inch Pro.
Both are 16GB with no issues.  Patriot Signature Series is currently on sale for $100 (16GB)....Not sure which part of the world you live in so can't give you any stores that sells them.
In any event, good luck with your transplant.

  • Does anyone know about the WIFI problems with the late 2008 Macbook 2.0?

    I need a Macbook but I can't afford a new one.  So I'm looking into purchasing a late-2008 Macbook 2.0.
In my research I came accross a review which said that they were having some problems with WIFI and attributed it to the metal case.
Has anyone heard of this problem and has anyone found a solution for it?
    Thanks for your help.

  • Where can I find a cheap RAM upgrade compatible with an early 2008 macbook 2.1ghz so I can run lion?

Question says it all really. Looked on amazon at a few but am not sure if they will be compatible or not. Just looking for something cheap but which will get me up to date with lion as it requires at least 2Gb and I'm currently only running the standard 2x 512Mb that it came with. Thanks.

    The model 4,1 (Early 2008) can use 6gb of 667mhz PC2-5300 RAM
These are good online stores for Mac compatible RAM
OWC http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/MacBook/DDR2/ - Similar to DMS, they offer Mac tested RAM at very good prices.
Crucial Memory http://www.crucial.com/ - good place to buy RAM from all over the world. They also have an excellent memory selector that allows you to choose memory based on your computer's model
Data Memory Systems http://www.datamemorysystems.com/apple-memory.asp - another good, cheap place to buying RAM if you live in the U.S.
Macdimms.com - Specializes in supplying Mac compatible RAM at extremely competitive prices. Brands featured include Crucial, Samsung, Hynix, and Micron. All brands carry a lifetime warranty. Lion will require at least 2gb of RAM but really needs 4gb to run smoothly. Also Lion doesn't run any Power PC programs. To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under Kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under Lion.
Before Mac switched to Intel processors they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need the application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With 10.7 Lion Apple dropped all support for Power PC applications.

  • Late 2008 MacBook Pro - Bootcamp (Vista-32bit) issues

    Hey all -
I have a couple issues with my late 2008 MacBook Pro when I use bootcamp to switch to its Vista (32 bit) side.  I've never been able to solve these issues myself, so I was hoping I could get some help here.
When on the vista side, when I close the lid the computer display will shut off but the actualy computer will continue to run, and after some time I will no be able to wake it from its sleep.
When I try to turn the brightness down on my screen, it will turn down but then turn back to full brightness a few seconds later.
Scrollng with 2 fingers on the track pad is erratic (I read there was going to be a fix for this?)
The laptop gets so hot to the touch that it is almost painful (I imagine this can't be good for the computer)
It has also become sluggish to the point where even simple games and those on steam won't work without incredible lag.  Are there anyways to stop some processes to speed up the vista side?
Like I said, this is all while in bootcamp, not experiencing any of the issues on the OSX side.
    Thanks for any help

Would love some help if anyone knows

Looks like a problem with dynamic library initialization? Sqlplus works with desktop (intel). Running 10.5.5 on both machines.
    Culprit machine specs:
2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
One difference between desktop machine that works is that it only has 2 Gigs of mem..
My oci app gives the same error when using oracle client apis (running on culprit laptop).

  • Firewire ExpressCard unuseable on late 2008 Macbook Pro!?

I bought a Texas Instrument bases ExpressCard for Firewire 400 in order to make my RME Fireface work on the late 2008 Macbook Pro (MBP), since the onboard LSI/Agere chip doesn't like the Fireface 400.
    Result:
    1. It made OS X freeze out of the blue several times.
    2. It is not possible to install it on bootcamped Vista at all.
    3. And it leads to upto 30% performance loss on XP.
I did some web search and found a post of someone who tried six (6!) different ExpressCards on Vista and all showed the same "No free resources" error when using Bootcamp. I found no way to solve that and it's likely a problem of the "BIOS".
Also the card (or likely the MBP) made OS X freeze several times and behaves erratic the other times: like not being detected, being detected as new second ExpressCard Firewire Network eventhough it is already in the list. I suspect this to be an electrical problem. To my astonishment the card can be pulled out easily when it should be fixed inside the slot without pushing on it first to unlock it. This always leads to freezing (who wonders)!
Hot plugging the ExpressCard itself on Windows XP is not possible, the driver will shot "Not enough free Resources" just like on Vista until you restart Windows/the MBP.
Hot Plugging cables on my Firewire ExpressCard does not work properly on OS X or Windows XP. On OS X it only recognizes the Fireface to unplug/replug on the ExpressCard if I plug/unplug the Firewire Repeater on the buildin FW800 port. That may be a Fireface driver issue though. On XP it only seems to work by turning off the MBP before plugging the Fireface to the ExpressCard (simply Restart does not seem to work).
ExpressCard on late 2008 MBPs seems to be a mess, but I lack comparison with other cards. Maybe some other people with working ExpressCards can give some feedback?
Fortunately the Fireface is useable via some Fireface Repeaters: external HD, HUB, or in my case a simple Lindy Repeater Cable (aka cable with inbuild repeater).

Now this is a bit shocking:
Having only inserted the ExpressCard leads to 10-20% CPU load (pure system load, not produced by any process) on XP as long as the ExpressCard driver is active (standard Windows TI Firewire driver).
The extra system load completely vanishes once you load the CPU to maximum, but when using Ableton Live even over the inbuild FW800 port performance is at least 30% lower as long as the ExpressCard driver is active.
Even more disturbing the performance loss is happening because the actual CPU load of Live itself is alot higher with the very same load compared to not having the ExpressCard active! :-O
To underline the most curious fact about the latter: It also happens when the ExpressCard isn't even used, it's just inserted alongside the other FW port.
I would like to get some feedback from other late 2008 Macbook Pro users about their own experience with ExpressCards. For me ExpressCard Firewire seems to be out of question under these circumstances. Fortunately the hub/repeater solution works with the inbuild LSI/Agere FW800 port.

    Things to note:
I have been unable to update firmware on this computer for about a year now. Im not sure why.
I am running a bootleg copy of Windows XP on this computer, I would not like to spend $149 to get Windows 7 if possible.
any thoughts on the matter would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Why don't you take your 'old' MBP into your local Apple Store and have them check out everything that's wrong with it - and I mean everything? Then, when you get an estimate about how much it would cost to get the machine completely repaired, ask about the Apple flat-rate repair pricing?
It's worth a shot - and with what you may save, you can put in the bank for a new MBP.

A 2008 Mac won't have originally shipped with Lion. You need to install 10.6.8 on the computer, log into the Mac App Store with the Apple ID you used to purchase Mountain Lion, click on the Purchases tab, and download it.

  • What printers are compatible with the airport extreme?

What printers are compatible with the airport extreme?

Virtually any wireless printer will work just fine as well as a printer that connects using Ethernet. If you are looking at an All-in-One type of device....all functions like print, scan, copy, maintenance, etc will be supported.
If you are looking at USB devices, Apple does not provide a list of compatible models, so It is difficult to say with certainly what will work and what will not. In general, most USB printers will work.
But....very important....if you are looking at an All-in-One USB device, you need to keep in mind that only the print function will work when the device is connected to the USB port on the AirPort Extreme. Scan, copy, fax, maintenance, etc. will not be supported.
Bottom line...if you are looking at an All-in-One device and you need all of the functions, you need to choose a device that connects using wireless only or Ethernet, not USB.

what cameras are compatible with the camera connection kit and ipad2

I also recently bought the camera kit and found that it worked fine as long as you don't format the SD card using PC. Once I re-formatted using my camera I could once again upload my photos. that was until I switched formats to Adobe RAW, it seemed unable to upload again. So I switched to S RAW and that worked fine. Sometimes my kit won't upload photos but I find that by just re-inserting the card it works fine.
Haven't tried video yet, but I recently learned that the devices are quit sensitive to the "Format"(that needs to be FAT32, or exFAT- but in this instance it needs to be formatted by a Mac).
    Good luck
