What reasons are there that the boot loader might not recognize OSX?

So il try to make this brief:
1. I dragged the contents of the "Macintosh HD" partition on my internal hardrive to a partition of an external hardrive made specifically for containing the dmg "Macintosh HD" (which supposedly holds all the files pertaining to OSX?).
2. A couple weeks later (now) I erased the contents of my internal hardrives "Macintosh HD" partition and replaced it with that of the partion of my external hardrive which contains the "backup" dmg "Macintosh HD".
Theoretically, my computer should be exactly as it was a couple weeks ago right?
So going back to the heart of the matter, why doesn't the boot loader recognize OSX?
Thanks in advance for your time :)

Maybe I'm going about this the wrong way.... heres what I want to do:
I want to install mac OSX 10.8.5, a couple of audio interface drivers, Pro Tools 11/ 10 and Cubase 6. Following this, I want to imediatley make a backup that will not update. My reasoning; I'm using the computer in question as a "glorified tape recorder" and as we all know, over time computers (even macs) become "cluttered" (im not talking about messy file organization). Reinstalling isn't an ideal solutaion for me as reinstalling OSX would remove all kinds of presets from my DAWS and interface controls (too many to backup individually).
Thanks, Patrick Mulholland.

  • Those values which are there in the IN list but  not in the table.

    Hi All,
    We have a table global_title_isbn having 18 columns with primary key on title_isbn. This table contains approx. 10 million rows.
    Normally what we used to get was 10-15 comma seperated list of ISBNs for some business process , for them we have to check into the table to figure out what all ISBNs are not there in the table.
    But now a days we are getting a list of more than 100 ISBNs and there are times when only less than 40 ISBNs exist in the table. So figuring out what all ISBN are not there in the given list is very tiresome job.
    Is there any way using SQL we get list of only those ISBN which are not there in the table from the list,
    eg
    select * from global_title_isbn where title_isbn in ( a comma seperated list);
    will give me those ISBNs which are there in the global_title_isbn and in the given list..
    Desired O/P
    a list of ISBN which are there in the given list but do not exist in the table.
    PS:-- I have only read access . I cannot create any table/view etc and PLSQL stored procedure.....
    Regards
    Vineet

    I see no problem with my solution.
    See examples below:
    create table global_title_isbn (title_isbn varchar2(10));
    insert into global_title_isbn values ('8888888');
    commit;
    -- your_string is '9999999','8888888','17262','19283263','328732'
    select rtrim(ltrim(extractvalue(list_isbn.column_value,'e'), ''''), '''') as title_isbn
      from table(xmlsequence
                  (extract
                    (xmltype('<coll><e>' ||replace(:your_string, ',', '</e><e>') ||'</e></coll>')
                  , '/coll/*') )
                ) list_isbn
    where not exists (select 1
                         from global_title_isbn gt
                        where gt.title_isbn = rtrim(ltrim(extractvalue(list_isbn.column_value,'e'), ''''), ''''));
    output:
    9999999
    17262
    19283263
    328732
    drop table global_title_isbn;
    create table global_title_isbn (title_isbn number(10))
    insert into global_title_isbn values (8888888);
    commit;
    -- your_string is '9999999','8888888','17262','19283263','328732'
    select rtrim(ltrim(extractvalue(list_isbn.column_value,'e'), ''''), '''') as title_isbn
      from table(xmlsequence
                  (extract
                    (xmltype('<coll><e>' ||replace(:your_string, ',', '</e><e>') ||'</e></coll>')
                  , '/coll/*') )
                ) list_isbn
    where not exists (select 1
                         from global_title_isbn gt
                        where gt.title_isbn = rtrim(ltrim(extractvalue(list_isbn.column_value,'e'), ''''), ''''));

    Help!!!

    Your photos will not be touched, but your computer might recognize the photos again after that.
    copied from this article:
    A new one will be recreated the next time you sync Photos with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod. Deleting this folder will not remove the original images from your library.
    You can also try another way to import your photos:

  • What tables are there behind the trees.

    If a tree is set up with a node that has a set of accounts... what set of tables can I query to find that info?

    I also found that if you want to look up any table at all within Peoplesoft, just search the psrecdefn table.
    select * from PSRECDEFN where RECNAME like '%SOME PART OF THE TABLE NAME%';Just a side note, RECNAME is not the table name, it is the record name. It is slightly different, recname is generally not prefixed by PS whereas the table name in the backend is under PSxxx format.
    And since Peoplesoft schema contains a "copy" of its own metamodel, you can find all the components existing in the backend like tables (record), views, indexes and so on, even tablespaces.

  • What typfaces are there that I can use varied weights for East Asian Characters?

    I am at a dead end trying to find a typeface which is not a script, which offers me more than one stroke weight for Traditional Chinese and South Korean characters. I need a typeface which will compliment Helvetica.
    Please help!
    Thank you

    I can't help you with Korean.  As for Chinese, the system fonts for Windows and the Chinese fonts bundled with some Adobe products come in a single weight, as you already know.  However, some of the Japanese fonts bundled with InDesign come in multiple weights: various weights of Kozuka Pro _might_ work for traditional Chinese, though some forms occur only in Japanese.
         Character set is a big deal, and Chinese fonts vary significantly in the number of characters they contain.  Typically, you get more characters in standard weights (i.e.,  "regular" or "light").  Note, too, that authors frequently use Windows system fonts for Chinese (MingLiU or PMingLiU). These happen to have very large character sets, meaning they contain many variant forms that are not available in most fonts; inevitably, authors use some of these variants and they show up missing in the weight you need.
         Dynafont and Arphic packages are pretty well regarded, and included a variety of weights in some styles -- but watch out for character-set issues.  I can't recommend a source since the one I used disappeared.
    Good luck!

  • What changes are there with the Nano 7G software update 1.0.2?

    I updated the Nano when asked on Friday, but I can't see any difference in functionality; nothing seems to have changed from 1.0.1 which I've been running the last 2 months.

    Answering my own question, I found the changelog:
    iPod nano (7th generation)
    Version 1.0.2
    • EQ and microphone support for Apple In-Ear Headphones
    • Bluetooth improvements

  • What is advisable? [Jar the property file or not?]

    About standalone applications, what is advised? shall the properties file and other configuration files be a part of the jar file or not?
    One benefit keeping them out is to have a privilege of 'not-building' the entire code just to change the configuration in one of the files.
    Another thought which comes to mind is to keep everything clean by bundling everything under one jar file.
    What is advisable?

    Ask yourself this: what reason is there for the configuration file to change AFTER application deployment?
    Likely in most cases the answer is going to be "none, I ain't gonna need this". Sometimes a problem isn't a problem if you just don't treat it like a problem you know :)
    In any case there are multiple strategies to match different requirements. A few I can think of;
    - keep the config in the jar (config is completely static)
    - keep initial configuration in the jar, but copy it to the user's home folder if it doesn't exist there yet where it may be safely changed for a specific deployment of the application
    - allow configuration to be altered from within the application itself (again: the user home folder is a likely target for the created file)
    - store configuration in a database
    and there are probably more. LDAP/Active Directory comes to mind for example.

    We'll assume for now, that all the songs and albums in your iTunes Library are correctly labelled (dangerous assumption, by the way!), and that a Compilation album is one with songs by different artists. Unfortunately, the music industry (bless their little cotton socks!) often mark an album by one artist, that has a collection of their songs from old albums, as a compilation! iTunes doesn't think it is!
    The missing artists will be those who only appear on Compilation albums. For example, if you have one song by Fleetwood Mac in your Library, and it's on a multi-artist Compilation album, then Fleetwood Mac will not be listed in the Artists menu. But, if you then import a Fleetwood Mac album (or even a Fleetwood Mac single) into your Library, then not only will Fleetwood Mac appear under Artists, but the song by them in the Compilation album will also be listed.
    One way to sort this out is to remove the Compilations option from the Main Menu and the Music Menu on your iPod. To do this, go to Settings/Main Menu/Compilations and press the Select (centre) button to turn off the tick. Then repeat this in the Settings/Music Menu/Compilations.
    You should now find the missing artists listed in the Artists menu.
    By the way, I now routinely check all albums I import from CD into my iTunes Library. Before I start the import procedure, I make sure that Compilation CD is turned on (highlight the album in the import window and right-click/Compilation CD) if it really is a multi-artist CD - and off if it's a single artist CD. Once imported, I manually change the album info to; (highlight album and select ) File/Get Info/Info/Album Artist has "Various Artists" in the box. Make sure it's the Album Artist box, not the Artist box.

    There have been a lot of recent reports of difficulties sharing to DVD, but haven't been hearing about unreadable disks. Posibly there was an encoding error. Or it could have been bad media (blank disk).
    Does it play in your Mac?
    What brand of disks are you using?
