What reboot reason forces SPA perform new DHCP Discover

Hi,
I know there are different kinds of reboot reasons for the SPA-phones.(https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-9889)
But could anyone specify what reboot reasons that makes the SPA perform a new DHCP Discovery, Request etc.?
//Anna

Freebox HD (the media box) is not configurable (at least by user). This is a device provided by Internet service provider in France. Therefore I'm not able to set static address. However, if I connect Freebox HD without Cisco SLM2008 in between it will boot okay, and if I rewire it with SLM2008 afterwards (without powering down) it will continue to work fine.
In other words, if Freebox HD got IP address it may work through cisco without the problem. However it's not possible to move Freebox HD next to the TV without unplugging it from the outlet
So the only problem as it seems is to get DHCP Discover packet through the Cisco. I have 3 SLM2008 switches in my installation. The last one was bought this year I believe, so must be still under warranty.
May be it's a good idea to swap them. However, I feel that this is not a hardware issue, but a firmware. And all of them has same firmware version 2. something...
I'll attach my traces when I get home.
Nikolai
P.S. I've just found this articles on the internet:
http://serverfault.com/questions/337591/spanning-tree-blocking-dhcp-requests-in-windows-bootp
http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/spanning-tree-protocol-stp-and-portfast.html
Someone has similar problem with different Cisco switch. They suggest the problem is about STP. I've seen some settings about STP in my configuration pages....

  • What is the "Backup IP" reboot reason on the Cisco SPA 50x IP phones?

    Hi,
We have a customer, at a remote site with SPA504G phones, they have a problem with the phones rebooting once in a while, typically once an hour.
In the reboot history on the phones the reason is "Backup IP".
I cant find any reference to this in the SPA 50x manuals or anywhere else, so what do this actually mean?
The phones are deployed using SIP, and are running firmware 7.4.9c.
The phones /admin/status.xml has this information:
    <    <Reboot_Reason_1>Backup IP(01/01/2003 12:00:00)</Reboot_Reason_1>
          <Reboot_Reason_2>Backup IP(04/25/2012 07:43:29)</Reboot_Reason_2>
          <Reboot_Reason_3>Backup IP(04/25/2012 06:40:45)</Reboot_Reason_3>
    <    <Reboot_Reason_4>Backup IP(04/25/2012 05:38:02)</Reboot_Reason_4>
          <Reboot_Reason_5>Backup IP(04/25/2012 04:35:18)</Reboot_Reason_5>
The manual has information about several other reboot reasons, but I can't find any information about this "Backup IP" reason.

I loaded iTunes on a new laptop. I copied and pasted my albums to a 4G stick and down loaded them to the new laptop. Placing them in, Libraries – Music – iTunes and than in Itunes used File – add file to library. So far so good. For what ever reason one of the CDs would not load onto the stick. I got the orginal CD and loaded directly to Itunes. Now when I look in  Libraries – Music – iTunes it’s not there but it is in and plays in iTunes. What should I have done or should I be doing? Thanks.

It's not a unique situation - happens all the time, smaller hard drives getting filled up.
It's also easy to fix. I just moved my itunes content to a bigger hard drive.
First I made a backup of the itunes database file - iTunes Library.itl. Just in case anything went wrong.
Nothing did go wrong, but I'd have it in case anything DID go wrong. That file holds ratings, playcounts, Date Added, and other metadata.
Second, in itunes change the preferences > advanced tab to tell itunes to put everything on G:
Set the itunes folder location to something like G:Media or G:iTunes
This will affect all FUTURE additions to itunes and not do anything to the existing locations.
Make sure the checkbox for "Keep itunes organized" is NOT checked. I also left the "Copy files when adding" unchecked.
Third, to move all the files to G: without itunes losing the paths, run the File > Library > Organize > Consolidate command. This will need to run a while, so be patient as it copies all the files to the new G: location. This does NOT delete the originals. You will have to do that.
Fourth, make sure everything in itunes is OK and you can play stuff in your library. If you're really cautious you can run a script to check for missing/dead tracks.

  • Does anyone know why or what is the reason when starting a new iMac with Lion a gray bar sometimes appears when loading software?

Does anyone know why or what is the reason when starting a new iMac with Lion, sometimes a gray bar appears under the Apple that begins to shade to dark as it loads OS?  It does this on occasion.  One time the system loaded was VERY slow and terrible colors.  Pulled the plug, re-started the computer and it did not do this.  As I say, its only on occasion, not every time.  I noticed in the discussion page there were problems listed for 10.6 nothing for Lion.
    Please advise, if possible.

You should see this 4 option menu.  Click on Disk Utility:
In Disk Utility, Select FIRST AID and then VERIFY and then REPAIR the disk.
    Ciao.

  • SPA Reboot Reason "System 4"

    Hello all,
I have a deployment of around 30 Cisco SPA504g's and 5 of them are constantly going offline. The reboot reason I get is "System 4", I have looked through all manuals and Googled extensively and cannot shed any light on this?
I have factory reset the phones and reprovisioned them, but they still constantly reboot with this reason. Any ideas?
    Kind regards,
    Ashley

    Hi,
Not sure about this error but there was discussion before if it helps you.

i downloaded carbon copy. transferred entire internal hd  to new replacement HD  thru USB adapter kit.  computer booted from replacement hrdrive. then i erased the internal hardrive and reloaded the operating system.( i needed to find out if the hard drive was bad or virus/worm was the cause). then installed replacement hard drive into iMac. when rebooting, imac did not recognized new replacement hd. i also upgraded memory at the same time.  ok what did i do wrong. do i have to remove the new replacement hardrive to extract the data.

It should not matter. CCC will "clone" the recovery partition as well, but not knowing exactly what operation you had CCC perform it is difficult to know what may have gone wrong - it has many customizable options and you have to choose the correct one.
I have performed the same transplant as you described and didn't have a problem, but if your Mac is not recognizing the internal HD you really have no choice other than to reinitialize it as suggested. After that, install OS X, upgrade to Mountain Lion if required, and migrate your old account(s) from your backup.
    my backups have backups.
I assume you didn't mean that literally. Have redundant backups - don't "back up your backups".

    Hi,
we have a Wireless LAN Controller WLC 4402, Software Version 4.1.192.22M (Mesh).
At the moment there are 6 Access Points in one house, one of them is the root AP. The others are only connected via electrical socket.
    AP’s are: AIR-LAP1131AG-E-K9 / Boot Version 12.3.8.0 / IOS Version 12.4(3g)JMC1
I think the configuration worked fine over a period of 2 years.
Now the problem is that the number of access points connected to the controller is changing nearly every minute. At times there is only one AP connected to the controller. So it is impossible for the clients to build up a steady connection. They have to log in via the guest user web interface at short intervals or they can’t see the wireless lan.
First we thought it would be a problem of one or two “defect” access points. But we replaced 4 of the 6 access points and the problem is still there.
    An example, yesterday:
    13:17 o’clock – 2 AP’s
    13:19 o’clock – 4 AP’s
    13:21 o’clock – 5 AP’s
    13:23 o’clock – 4 AP’s
    13:25 o’clock – 5 AP’s
    13:25 o’clock – 4 AP’s
    13:26 o’clock – 5 AP’s
    13:26 o’clock – 6 AP’s
    13:28 o’clock – 4 AP’s
    13:28 o’clock – 2 AP’s
Eye-catching is the following message of the log, which appears often: “52       Mon May 16 13:21:56 2011        AP 'AP001d.e557.6fd8', MAC: 00:1d:70:01:bc:20 disassociated previously due to AP Reset. Last reboot reason: power loss
Also eye-catching is the AP up time. The Root AP is up for over 80 days. But all the other access points show an up time of a few minutes until some hours…but not more.
Does anybody know what the problem could be?? I read some similar threads but no solution.

    Hey,
last week I tried to upgrade the controller step-by-step.
Under the software 4.1.192.35M the problem was still there… access points were often disassociated from the controller.
There were problems with Software 4.2.207.54M too. The access points couldn’t reach the download-status. The log of the access point said that it could not open the tar-file.
So I went back to 4.1.192.35M. Of course the controller lost some of its configuration. I configured it new with the same settings as before.
After it the wireless connection seemed to be a little bit more robust. I asked the users to test the connection at the weekend and this is the answer:
“so we tested the WLAN during the weekend. The situation definitely improved with respect to before. Authetication is much faster and the connection (when active) is sensibly faster.
However the connection is still very unstable and it is necessary every five-ten minutes to reconnect (especially for intense network traffic like when watching a streaming content or using VOIP applications. Actually switching off and on again the WLAN card (Airport) often a new authentication is not required. However, without doing so the connection would not resume alone to a working state.
So what to say? Better than before (thanks) but far from being fixed. From last September to January we did not experience any problem, so it must be something that chronologically happened at the beginning of the year, it is not a systemic problem.
But there were no changes or anything else at the beginning of the year.
Do you mean it makes sense to resume upgrading? I’m a little bit afraid of more problems like under 4.2.207.54M
    Greetings Lydia

  • How do I get a new DHCP address?

I work in television, and we travel to a new location each week. Our Network is run through NomadixAG3000, and, anyone with a PC doesnt seem to have any issues logging on to our network. There seems to be new Mac users every other week, and the problems are escalating... For some reason, Macs seem to hold a DHCP address, I don't need to Renew my DHCP lease, I need a NEW DHCP lease. I just found a new error message, telling me the address is in use. I can't seem to get the computer to search for a different address. When I log on in MY work area, it is to a wireless access point/router , with encryption, so there doesnt seem to be any competition for these addresses. I work closely with our IT guys, but not in IT, and while I am completely ignorant as to System Administration, as a Mac User out here, I'd like to know the hows and whys to the problem.
UPDATE: Every MAC, not just mine, seems to be trying to access the network to the SAME address, and once it's taken, we get an error message saying the 10.10.23.97 address is taken. I'm pretty sure the problem is with the Network System Admin settings. I log on without any issues on many other Nomadix based systems in hotels/coffeeshops, etc. Anyone see a clue here?

    BklynMoonshiner,
I think you are on the right track with your suspicion that this is a router/hosting problem, not a Mac (OS X) problem. What is interesting is that all OS X machines are either attempting to acquire- or are being offered- the same IP address. This may be the clue you need to figure this out.
Off the top of my head, the only thing that comes to mind, the only thing that would be common to the OS X machines but not necessarily a PC, is that they are also attempting to configure IPv6. Your infrastructure may not be capable of IPv6, or it may not be configured to support it. Since all of the OS X clients would be attempting to configure it, they might all end up asking for or getting the same IP address. I think the latter is more likely; not able to process the IPv6 requests, the router/host simply defaults to a single IP address, instead of granting addresses dynamically.
I'm just guessing, and I'm no IT guru by a long shot. The networking stack seems like a bad nightmare to me. However, I think it is worth a try to disable IPv6 and see if it changes anything. Open System Preferences>Network. Open the padlock, if necessary, then click the "Advanced..." button with your Airport connection selected. Switch to the "TCP/IP" tab, and use the pull-down menu to turn IPv6 off. Save your settings, then try reconnecting to the network. Do this with at least 2 or 3 OS X clients, and test them on the same access point.

  • Re: Need Help! Dell poweredge T630 cannot reboot after trying to add new memory

It fail to initialize the iDRAC

hi, can any one please advise what should I do for my server? Dell poweredge T630 cannot reboot after trying to add new memory card. Even I remove the newly added memory card and only keep the original one there, it still cannot reboot. Before I try to add the memory card, it works well without any rebooting issues.
Thank you so much for help

  • IP address not refreshing with new DHCP Server setup

    Hi all,
This is a strange issue that I am lost. I had a different Gateway with  a Built in DHCP server on 192.168.0.1 IP address. I installed a new DHCP Server with an IP address 192.168.1.1, but when I connect to the Wireless network with the correct password, I still get an IP address in the old IP range.
I have done a security wipe with the same result.
Does anyone have any ideas on what I need to do to flush out all the IP information?

    Yes,
That is what I ended up doing, altho it seems very weird. I figured out how to correct it, but still am not sure why it happend.
    1. Changed my DHCP Serer IP to 192.168.0.1
    2. Went into the Client list and deleted the IP for the Playbook.
    3. Changed the DHCP Server IP back to 192.168.1.1
    4. Playbook has new IP.
Anyone with ideas why this happened I would be interested in their thoughts!!!

  • What is exact differernce of at new and at onchange events?

    hello,
what is exact differernce of at new and at onchange events?
    paramesh.kalluri

    Hi,
Usually beofoer processing any internal table,
we use the conrtrol events (AT NEW, AT FIRST, ON CHANGE OF etc) for better formatting options.
When ever we go for these events, its better to sort the table by key fields .
    AT NEW-
    1) Only opne field can be given.
    2) It is a event that is used only with in a internal tabel (LOOP and ENDLOOP) processing.
    for ex:
Assume internal table has these fields-
    spfli- carrid, connid, fldate.
    loop ..
    at new connid.
    endat.
    endloop.
    case 1.
    at new connid.
On every new value, ie the comobination of both carrid, connid is checked here. For every new combination of both, the control jumps to next statement.
    case 2.
    at new carrid.
here for every new carrid the event is triggered.
AT NEW <field>- here the position of this field is important in table. based on this postiion it will check the proir feilds aslo
into consideration for trigeerring the event.
    ON CHANGE OF <field1> field2>...
    1) here we can give any number if fields.
    2) the position of the field1 is not considered in the internal table.
    3) Its usually used in support projects.
    4) If we use this, then its a performance issue because,
internally the field1 is stored in the other filed and this is used to compare for change in value. This rechacking is done internally. Hence it is not used mostly except in support projects.
For ex: on change of connid.
here only for every change in only connid is considered not the prior field ie carrid included. here the position of connid in internal table is not considered.
    On change of connid fldate.
here exclusively both are cheked the combination is not considered. separately connid and fldate are cheked. for every new value the evvent is trigggered.
    Reward if useful.

  • Why are you trying to force us into new plans that cost more and offer less?

My wife and I are long term customers on a grandfathered Family Share Plan (2 lines with unlimited data, 1000 texts each, and 500 shared minutes). Now that my children are getting older I am ready to get them their own mobile phones; however, you won't allow me to add them to our existing plan (even if those new lines do not include a data package).  As recently as a few months ago I could have added a new line (talk only) for $9.99 per month. After an hour of discussion with your loyalty-program service rep, the only options offered to me were 1) give up the old plan and have all of us forced into a new one that will cost more while offering us significantly less, or 2) keep the existing plan for my wife and me and start a new "family" plan for my children (which, again, will be more expensive while offering less).  It would be much more convenient for all of us to be on the same plan with the same provider, but you are not allowing that to happen. Your customer service representative acknowledged multiple times that I have been a long term loyal customer -- but if you don't reciprocate that loyalty then I also am a misguided fool who is allowing you to take advantage of me. So now I will have to start investigating mobile service alternatives for my children; given the lack of loyalty that you have shown me thus far, l guess it's time to see what your competitors have to offer.

I could do the same.  I believe you had possibly an older plan than what I had that allowed more than 3 lines.  I remember specifically being kicked back an error and telling me to move to the 1400 minute plan as that was the only one that support 3 or more lines.
Too bad I don't have screenshots of it.  I purge my screenshots when making changes to anything on line for verification.

  • What do you think of the new creative cloud cc that was just released?

What do you think of the new creative cloud cc that was just released? I'm using it now and I think it's great. It's cs6 on stereroids lol More new features that people who fully paid for cs6 should of had.
I do wish the cloud standard price changes to 29.99 a month for all users so everyone gets a chance to enjoy the cloud.

I just downloaded CC, and still have all my CS6 apps as backup. Bridge CC (64-bit) is showing the same unacceptable performance I had with CS6 version. Can't believe that Adobe is so inept. I did fix the CS6 version but I forget how I did it.  CS6 version of Bridge is near instantaneous. And it's not a matter of building the cache. It takes the program forever just to respond to a simple mouse click in the menu bar.
Photoshop CC crashed my machine, whereas CS6 version runs perfectly. Afraid to download any further apps.
Adobe 11 failed to install because it think's prior version of the that program is still on the computer. I never installed Acrobat 11 on this machine. Just Acrobat 10, which also got the stupid 30-day "refuse to start" bug, so I'm using Acrobat 9.5 which works flawlessly.  Funny how the newer the code from Adobe, the worse it gets for its customers.
I'm using Win 7 Pro, 16GB mem, Nvidia 2800M video card on Thinkpad with i7-920XM chip.
