  • What SQL Server Agent jobs are currently running and for how long

Is there a way to tell what SQL Server Agent jobs are currently running and for how long?  View history isn't working in my case because it's only showing completed jobs.  John Schroeder

You can use the "Job Activity Monitor" for doing this.  Do the following steps. It will open up the Job Activity Monitor.
    1.    In Object Explorer, connect to an instance of the SQL Server Database Engine, and then expand that instance.
    2.    Expand SQL Server Agent.
    3.    Right-click Job Activity Monitor and click View Job Activity.
    4.    In the Job Activity Monitor, you can view details about each job that is defined for this server.
In Job Activity Monitor page, we have column called Status. It will indicate whether job is executing or idle. Last Run column will give you the last invocation time of this job.

  • What platform/java technology should I use? Please Help

Hi, I am a uni student and have a final year java project to do.
    The project must include:
    1. a server side application that must run at specific times during the day (3 x a day) and store information to a database (MySQL).
    2. a client side desktop application that will connect to the database and retrieve the information.
I have no problems writing the client side application. However, I am totally lost when it comes to knowing what server I need to have running the server side application and what type of java technology the server side application should use i.e EJB, entity beans etc??? How would the appliaction run at certain times, would I use a timer class? What would be the best way?
I would appreciate any advice you can give. Many Thanks.

    Hi,
    1. ok if I develop my application as a "normal" java
application does this mean that it needs to run on an
    aplication server?No, it doesn't.
    2. is developing the app as a normal java app
considered a good way of implementing such a system,
or would it be better to use enterprise bean
approach? That depends on your professor. Given nothing other than the requirements you stated, there is no need for an application server. You can just have a command-line app that runs forever to do these server things. However, if your professor wants you to learn about J2EE servers, then it's a different story. So ask your instructor.

  • New web development java technologies

    hi friends
get me an area/problem in web development were we can use new java technologies.

Are you asking for problem domains to try out the latest and greatest Java technologies, or are you asking us to give you new business ideas?

  • What's your strategy for learning Java technologies?

Or, in other words, how do YOU acquire knowledge that is necessary for implementing Java technologies?
After having spent one-and-a-half years developing an enterprise app, I've gained lots of knowledge about Java and some surface knowledge about its related technologies (JBoss, Hibernate, Ant, XDoclet, NetBeans and probably some others I can't think of at the moment).
I'm now realizing that -- although the standalone prototype version of my program is growing mature -- I've still got lots to learn for refactoring it to a web platform. For example, I 've done small test projects using Servlets, but haven't done any work with JSP (or HTML for that matter) yet.
Now, I'm sure I can learn JSP etc., but the questions I ask myself are: how long will it take?
It's a rhetorical question of course (I don't expect an answer from you, the reader) However, it's an important issue because the months or years I spend fumbling around learning these new technologies, are time I could otherwise spend on the business logic and functionality of my program.
So, how do you guys acquire knowledge of technologies? Official training perhaps? Or do you simply experiment until it works? Or do you rely on your company's knowledge base (e.g. someone in your company knows how it works)? Or do you get prototypes built from someone who already knows how it works?
Im really curious about this and would appreciate your thoughts.
    Thanks in advance,
    P

Well, it seems like most of you simply read the
various texts and try the vendors' examples. I'm
surprised that no one mentioned ever having bought a
prototype application from the onset. "bought"? What's that mean? You don't buy prototypes. You download evaluation versions, maybe.
I try to find sample code and tweak it to see the effects. Otherwise, I start writing small sample code an build on that.
I consider myself a reasonably competent core Java
programmer, but I had serious difficulty configuring
and merging its related technologies. There were so
many disjointed pieces of instructional information
that the additional research time really hurt our
budget severely. Not an uncommon thing, I'm sure. There's a lot of stuff. But don't bother learning all of it. Not in detail, at least. It's a good idea to familiarize yourself with the names of packages/libraries and what they do. But only really learn what you need to learn for what you need to do. The next project you will probably need other things, so you learn them then.
    bsampieri,
I've setup Tomcat and tried the examples--in fact, I
normally follow tutorials for all products I hope to
use. Problem is, the examples and tutorials never
address my specific needs. So, I usually inch toward
my goal by spending weeks or months in forums to
continue where the tutorials leave off. Anything complex is going to not be there.... the trick is to identify pieces that you can pull out to build more complex apps. And the fact that JSP/servlets have the issue of being compounded by all the HTML/CSS/JS and HTTP protocol ... I don't want to say limitiations, exactly... Well, it just makes things more complex and harder to know what you need.
Perhaps you guys are much faster and smarter than
I...or you have a much bigger budget :)Probably not... on either account.

  • What monitors are currently most appropriate for print jobs?

Hi, I'm a free lance graphic designer for 20 years already and have always used Aperture Grid CRT Trinitron monitors as the most accurate for creating color jobs for print. I bought my last set of monitors Sony's Multiscan G420 in 2001. While they are still pretty accurate, they are aging and I'm thinking of buying new monitors. At that time - 2001, when I purchased my monitors there were a few other technologies like Shadow mask and LCD which were not good at all for creating graphic design color jobs for print.
I'm not sure if they still sell Aperture Grid CRT monitors anymore and would like to find out what monitors/monitor technology is currently most appropriate for print jobs?
I will greatly appreciate your tips.

I'd go with a Sony, Samsung, or Sharp LCD and use it as a monitor, then professionally calibrate it.
Viola, you have quality, resolution, saturation, accuracy, dependability, all in one

  • What is the roadmap to a new comer in java technology?

Can some one define and explain the roadmap for a new comer who has just formal experience of using computer and keeps only basic knowledge about computers and computer programming? A new comer's mind is boggled with so many unkown terms. Can someone sort them out to make understand simply? What a new comer should know before dipping into the java technology and what must be learnt sequentially?

  • Beta versions and other browsers are currently not supported by an application I use everyday, what do I need to do?

When logging in to an application I get this message:
You are attempting to access ezLaborManager with the following unsupported browser:
    Firefox Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:6.0.2) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/6.0.2
ezLaborManager is only supported on current production versions of Internet Explorer and Firefox. "Beta" versions and other browsers are currently not supported.
It is strongly recommended that you use a supported browser to avoid encountering access and display issues.
WHAT VERSION OF FIREFOX SHOULD I USE?

Well, you can waste a lot of time and money trying to get your old iron up to speed but the sad fact is, even though it may work with Color, it will most likely end in a less than satisfactory experience all around. You need to determine if your G5 has PCI, PCI-x or PCIe slots and then purchase the appropriate cards.
However, Final Cut Studio 2 is optimized for the Intel processors. You will see users here and there using the newest models G5 with great success but quite honestly, you need a Mac Pro.
Or just purchase the Aja IO/HD which is a firewire 800 interface and the only firewire device that will preview externally Color.

It had not been used for awhile and most of the songs that were on there were gone when I turned it on.  I was trying to sync to update the library.

Weeks, months, years?  It's possible your battery is dying.  Take the iPod Nano to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.

  • How can I "see" what drivers are currently loaded in memory

I am currently trying to track down an "apparent" memory leak where the performance of my relatively idle Macbook degrades over time due to an ever increasing allocation of wired memory (as viewed from Activity Monitor). Within about two hours of rebooting with only the essential processes running, I see my wired memory continue to increase up to and beyond 700 MB. About this time I experience intermittent spikes in the "CPU-%System" allocation of 25% and more which causes severe lagging in my mouse and keyboard. The machine eventually becomes unusable and requires a reboot.
Because I see the wired memory continue to grow inexplicably over time and I am unable to isolate this to any processes listed in the Activity Monitor pane I have to believe that it is something not "visible" from the AM pane. I have read that wired memory is responsible for hosting the VM objects, the VM buffer caches, the I/O buffer caches, and the drivers.
FWIW, I downloaded "Main Menu" maintenance software from Santa Software and ran all of the cache maintenance scripts - unfortunately, this did not effect any discernible improvement.
My next guess is that there is some ill-performing driver loaded into memory that is chomping on my wired memory but I do not know how to "view" what drivers are currently resident.
Is there a way to view each of the drivers that are currently loaded in memory?
And, better yet, is there a way to view what amount of memory is currently allocated to each such driver?
Any help is much appreciated - thanks in advance!
    - Bruce

You would certainly see SOME "depreciation in memory", due to e.g. spotlight indexing and other processes. But it should be nowhere near to what you describe to the point where your CPU fan runs.
Without any further detailed technical expertise, I would assume that it could be a RAM stick that is not working as it should be, resulting in the CPU having to make the extra "effort" to compensate for lack of RAM.
Have you taken the RAM sticks out and reseated them? An dust preventing good contact?

  • In the About Firefox Help window what does, "You are currently on the default update channel" mean?

Firefox cannot perform an automatic update when running as a normal user on my system (it just spins when connecting to the update server) so normally when it notifies me of an update I run the application as root, open the About Firefox dialog and select update Firefox.<Br>
I was recently notified of an update to Firefox 7.0.1 (or 7.1 not positive) so I ran Firefox as root and opened the About Firefox box.<Br>
This time instead of showing me "An update is available. Click here to update." it displayed "You are currently on the '''default''' update channel".<Br>
    What does this mean?<Br>
    <Br>
    Thanks,<Br>
    Adam.

Mine says "the '''release''' update channel" on Windows. I believe this helps you know whether Firefox is checking for new official releases or new beta test releases. I don't know what '''default''' update channel indicates.
A web search indicates that '''default''' means no updates. To change your update channel, check out this article:

  • What specific technology are older macs bluetooth missing that will not allow handoff to work?

What specific technology are older macs bluetooth (that is built in) missing that will not allow handoff to work? Will apple allow people to buy third party bluetooth 4.0 to allow it to work?

Well, with a PPC Mac you can upgrade as far as Firefox 3.6.19 if you upgrade from Tiger OSX 10.3.9 to Leopard OSX 10.5, but Firefox doesn't support PPC architecture in the latest Firefox 4, 5, and 6.0 versions.
    For older Macs that aren't supported in Firefox 4.0 & 5.0, try TenFourFox for PowerPC's running Mac 10.4.11 & 10.5.8 . <br />
    http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/
But, you still need to carefully investigate if your hardware specs are sufficient for either Firefox 3.6.19 or for 10-4Fox.
