I just bought Photoshop Elements 13 and cannot find the Magic Extractor. Where is it?

I watched a video online and thought this would be a really cool tool to have since I'm preparing images for Amazon and they require a white background on the main product photo. The magic extractor disappeared after PSE11. It's recommended that you use the quick selection tool together with refine edge, if necessary.
From the refine edge dialog you can output your cut-out to a new layer or layer mask.

I upgraded to Adobe Elements 13. I can't find the magic extractor. If they removed this feature, how I this feature done in Elements 13?

How can I stop the magic extractor from locking up

This is an issue I've recently started to have. Everytime I use the magic extractor function ir freezes/locks up the program. I do get the status of the extraction process after picking my background & forground, yet when I attempt to preview my photo it acts as if the process is working, but in the end I don't get a preview image of my selection & the program has locked up. I'm running XP with SP3, 3.49 GB of available RAM and 20.8 GB of free space on my drive. The image I am working with is 2592x3888. So I don't believe memory is at issue here.Is there something I'm missing?

The editor saved prefs often get corrupted. You may need to rebuild the editor preferences to resolve any conflicts. To begin, close Elements.
Hold down the Ctrl+Shift+Alt keys and simultaneously click on the Edit button on the welcome screen. Release the three keys and look behind the welcome screen by closing it. Or hold down the keys whilst clicking on the desktop icon for the Editor or PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe in the Programs folder. Keep holding down all three keys until you get the settings option.
You should see a pop up box with the words: Delete Adobe Photoshop Elements Settings File?
Click on Yes
Then wait whilst Elements rebuilds the preferences.

I would suggest a machine with a multi-core processor and plenty of storage as photo files take up quite a lot of room over time. Many laptops have a screen resolution of 1366 x 768 and whilst elements will run OK some menu functionality will be missing if the display is not at least 800 pixels in height. A resolution of 1600 x 900 would be much better.
Independent advice is best, such as Which, UK. You can get a trial membership for as little as £1 to access their recommendations.

What is the 3rd Disc in Photoshop Elements. What does it do?

I am a neophyte. Just got the new Elements 10, and am in awe about all it can do. Have been running the tutorials. I have 3 discs in my packet. The first disc which I installed is the Photoshop Elements program. The second disc which I did not install is a trial of the the Premier version...for movies. The third disc is the focus of my question. I have put it into the computer and the dialogue box that opens asks for photo places on the computer. I have called CS but they tell me the 3rd disc is supposed to be templates for printing. I have opened the files on the 3rd disc but only see the formulary for the things the program needs in terms of space and speed from the computer to function.
Question: What is the 3rd disc for and how do I use it?

So I installed the 3rd disc (have a mac)...I have disc two in the computer and it does not prompt me to install, it sounded like it installed something though? I do not see an eject to remove it...
I am gathering from the previous answer, one only needs to install disc 3 for Elements10 Mac usage?

.swf file quality to dvd what is the magic path

This has always been a struggle trying to get .swf quality to the DVD and on web. I thought that when Adobe bought flash this will soon be a peace of cake. That has not been the case and I’m still trying to find the magic path. I have recently up graded from premiere 6 to premiere pro CSF to get upgrade of Encore 2.0 and what I thought was the silver bullet .swf import possible to premiere I thought this will cut down on the number of compressions and give the .swf quality on the DVD and much better web based quality as FLV files. The current movie which is by the way a deadline pay the bills type project publish fine as a .swf and has great screen qualities. It is my understanding that the new mpeg codecs that come with this upgrade are the choice for best DVD quality and web production when I import the .swf the movie export works fine for a while then windowsexporter.exe stops working and the process quits. So I guess maybe vista windows thing on my laptop so I up grade on my XP desktop and the program will not run at all and keeps crashing. So I find out file is probably to big to process so I split it down into smaller portion in flash and try to import the new smaller files and get error message file screen size to big when it is set to 720x480. I try sending directly to encore as suggested and get encode stopped unknown error. I can get an windows projector .exe file to process thank goodness that is keeping client happy for now but need to go on line and to dvd soon with much better quality than I get when I can get the movie to process in AVI which is really bad quality and not acceptable to deliver. Thanks in advance for any help deadline May 12 DVD in clients hands so this is chrunch time I need a fix or work around.

I don't think I understand what you mean by "SWF file quality" in relation to Encore.
Are you authoring to DVD? All video in the DVD-Video format is compressed to MPEG-2. If you're using SWF (FLV, really) for you source video, then you are starting with a highly-compressed format to begin with and it will be re-compressed to MPEG-2 when the DVD is built.
If you're not trying to use FLV for your source video, can you please explain the problem?

The user is the one you give when installing tomcat.
If you have forgotten it : see it to: C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat 6.0\conf\tomcat_users.xml
and choose one whop have role='manager'

What's the Magic of Spell Check?

Hello Everyone!
I hope I'm on the right forum this time.
I'm a physician. I bought Stedmans Legal/Pharacuetical/Medical Spell Checker in 2004/05. I loved it. When I upgraded to Leopard, something happened. It was gone. It wasn't in any of my backups. It seemed as though all of my applications were looking for it--incuding iTunes. iTunes insists on having it or it won't function and will crash.
I called Stedmans, and they said that it was an open application, or an open helping feature, even though it was buried deeply in the Microsoft Office 2004 app. folder. It was universal, and many applications could use it, so it didn't surprise him that a lot of apps were looking for it if they couldn't find it.
So, I plunked down another $200 for the newest edition of Stedmans, and guess what? The machine is still looking for Spell Check. When it looks for it and can't find it, the Finder comes to a crawl. The application, such as Mail 3.1, comes to a dead stop. Okay, the new Spell Check is in the MS folder where it ought to be, but the Mac Book Pro 17" dual processor isn't happy. I can't seem to make it happy and show it where Spell Check is.
I used to have an awful application called Spell Catcher from RainMaker that didn't do squat for medical terms. It went bye-bye a long time ago. The Mac is very particular about wanting Spell Check, and that's the exact name of the Stedmans app. The last time I spoke to Stemans on the phone, they said that they are aware of some sort of issue, and they're looking into it.
That, of course, was three weeks ago, and when I call now, nobody knows what I'm talking about.

It was looking for "Spell Check" and the applications were crashing because they couldn't find it before I installed the newest edition.
Nevertheless, it is time to go back to Stedmans and see if they've come up with anything.

What is the definition of 'item' in Elements 6?

I am about to convert to Elements 7 and have noticed a small issue that I can't find the answer to. It is probably trivial but before I go on to Elements 7, I would like to understand the meaning of the word 'item'.
At the bottom of the Organizer screen in Elements 6 there is a notation "Photo Catalog-1" followed by "21,874 items". What exactly are 'items'?
When I open up any of the files under the various Keyword Tags I've set up, I get a different number, supposedly the number of items in that file, and that is what I would expect. However, when I add up all of the items in all of the Keyword Tag files, I get 27,451, a number vastly different from 21,874. Does 21,874 represent the actual number of unique photos that I have loaded in from My Pictures? And, does the sum of the Keyword Tag files, 27,451 represent te sum of all the cross-referenced, multiple tags I've applied?
To further confuse me, when I go to My Pictures and click on Properties, it indicates thaty I have a mere 13,959 files. Should, or shouldn't these numbers all agree?

21,874 is the total number of media in your catalog. If you do any kind of search, the status bar at bottom shows the number of media that corrosponds to your search. So in this case, you might be having media which are attached to multiple tags.
Take an example - If you have say 10 media in you catalogs and say 3 tags A, B, C. You attached all 10 media to Tag A, 3 media to tag B, and 5 media to tag C. Initially when you launch organizer, you will see 10 items in the bottom status bar. Now you perform a search/filter on tag A, the staus bar now shows 10 items. Similarly on filtering Tag B, status bar shows 3 and 5 in case of filtering tag C. So if you total 10+3+5=18. So it is clearly a case of multiple files tagged with multiple tags.

Yes, do what they mean and not what they say . In fact a very small percentage of people saying dpi actually mean dpi, most mean ppi.
PPI is pixels per inch. Pixel stands for the smallest Picture Element. Pixels exist in digital files and pixels is also used for describing resolution of LCD displays where it means the smallest LCD picture elements (cells) of the screens. Pixels also can be used for the number of pixels camera sensors can produce.
DPI is dots per inch and is mostly used for smallest ink drop (dot) a printer is set to print. DPI can also be used for the samples of scanners and for describing the CRT monitors' resolution because the technology used for CRT monitors is more like printing dots than using fixed size cells as is the case with LCD screens, although when LCDs appeared on the market people started to use the term pixels for CRTs and some people used dots meaning LCD pixels and probably from there also meaning the same for pixels in digital files.
