What Resolution for Slideshow Pictures?

At what resolution should I be scanning pictures for a slideshow to be edited in iMovie?
Many thanks.

Hi awp:
I think that Dan Slagle's site may be just the ticket:

  • What resolution for a slideshow to play on a full HD tv (1920x1080)?

What resolution should my photos be in to produce a DVD slideshow that will play well on a full HD tv (1920x1080)?
should I be reducing them to those dimensions? They are from a 6Mp camera...
(It seems that if I want to produce a movie (with video clips) with some photos in it, then I have to reduce the photos to a much mower res, like 800x550... )
    thx

    >Are you saying you cannot burn a DVD via Photoshop Elements 5?
You can't burn a video DVD of a slideshow from Photoshop Elements to a DVD disc that will play on your TV DVD player. Even if you only have photos in your slideshow, in order to have the motion of pan and zoom it must be written to the DVD disc in one of the DVD video formats AND Photoshop Elements can not do that. Premiere Elements can.
    Because you will burn a
    b standard DVD
and use a standard DVD player, you are limited to the resolution of the standard MPEG2 DVD format in the range of approximately 800 pixels wide.
Most DVD players can play the standard video DVD format burned to a DVD disc on your PC. A good percentage of TV players can also play JPEG format photo files burned to a CD disc - but this can't have pan or zoom and whether it can have any music is totally dependent on the capability of the TV DVD player. Most DVD players can NOT play wmv files.
    >Hardware config: Win Vista Business edition, 2Gb ram etc.
I can't help you with Vista Business capabilities because I have Vista Home Premium and so do most of the people I know running Vista on their personal laptops or PCs.
If your TV has an HDMI connection and your PC/laptop also has an HDMI connection, it may be possible to connect to your TV and do higher resolution playback. However, I don't know the capability of Vista Business and I would question whether 2GB is sufficient RAM to do any higher definition work. Also your processor and video card may be factors in successfull higher definition playback.
However since it seems that you wanted to produce a show that could be played back on multiple TVs - using a direct PC/laptop connection might not be a solution.

  • HD resolution for slideshow?

    Hi there,
I've been creating photo slideshows for some time and I knew this was going to happen sooner than later: a question about HD.
I've already explained to the client that the DPI doesn't matter for a TV, but he asks again:"
What DPI resolution do you suggest to best view them on my DVD player and T.V. (I plan to buy a high definition large screen set next year). I understand that there are 1000-2000-4000 etcetera. DPI resolutions; I want the images to be as close as possible to the original slides without going too crazy on this issue as they will be for viewing only (no prints or enlargements or archiving). "
I explained that the photos will look amazing, as close to the originals as possible, but do i need to consider anything for HD?
    Cheers,
    Keebler

    Hi David,
In honour of that post and to reflect my lack of proper searching, I'll call myself a postidiot

  • IPhoto switches resolution for slideshow

I'm using a Viewsonic widescreen monitor with my Mini G4 which works just fine at a resolution of 1600x1050. When I start a slideshow from iPhoto, however, the display switches to 1280x960, and the photos appear stretched horizontally.
I've read elsewhere about issues with certain monitors and the 'coherent' display problem, but I can't see why this problem should only manifest itself during iPhoto slideshows!
Any insight into this would be much appreciated.
    Simon

Same problem here, but using a different external monitor. One post elsewhere recommended rebuilding the library, which I tried. Didn't help, but it took a long time. I'm using iphoto 6 on an ibook g4.
I'm about to switch to version 8 with a macbook. Can I hope the problem will be solved with that version?

What is the best picture size/resolution to use as a wallpaper for iPad mini retina?

The iPad Mini with Retina display has a resolution of 2,048 x 1536 so something around that size would show up best

  • I am locked up in slideshows, a prompt comes up "the volume for (a picture) cannot be found, how do I get out of slideshow,

I am locked up in slideshows in IPhoto, a message comes up "the volume for "some picture" cannot be found, Insert the disk or connect to the server volume and wait for it to appear on the destop, then try again." you can hit find photo, cancel (which it will not let you) or OK which does nothing, I want to delete this slideshow, or at the very least get out of slideshows, how can I do that?

With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a potential solution.  We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
what do you see when you try to view the the photos in the slideshow in full size?
    what fixes have you tried?
    where is your library located?
did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
    what type of Mac?
how much free space on your boot drive?

  • How do I save a picture in a lower resolution for the website

How do I save a picture in a lower resolution for the website

Check the App Store for apps that allow you to change the pixel dimensions of the photo. I use PhotoForge2 and it does a wonderful job of that by allowing you to move a slider to change the dimensions of the photo. Unfortunately Google purchased the company that made photoforge and it is no longer in the App Store. Thee are undoubtedly some other apps that will do what you want.

  • Picture workflow for slideshow in FCP

i have forty pictures that have a resolution of 3000 x 4000 pixels approx. and need to know how to bring pictures into FCP video track.
    Current problems:
    1. Pictures are keyframed for panning but resolution gets blurry.
    2. Pictures seem much larger than screen.
    3. While playing movie computer seems to bog down and doesnt play right away.
What is the order of preparing pictures, assembling pictures into timeline so that pictures dont lose picture quailty while panning and pictures dont have to be resized to fit screen in beginning.
Just need a simple workflow for this simple task, most other other discussions have been very confusing. Is There a screen size and resolution for 4:3 or 16:9?

    1. Pictures are keyframed for panning but resolution gets blurry.
this will go away when you view your rendered video on a tv set.
    2. Pictures seem much larger than screen.
Video is about 500x800 pixels. That's all. So your images are about 12000% larger than they need to be.
    3. While playing movie computer seems to bog down and doesnt play right away.
Yes, they're too big, so it take s a long time to scale them down, convert them to video, move them, nad then create the display image.

  • Help me with picture quality for slideshow.

Hi I'm David and I'm new to adobe elements and video editing and am trying the elements 9 trial.
I'm trying to learn the software and thought i'd start witha a slideshow vid with some holiday pics.
My first and biggest issue i've come across is the pictures quality is really lousy when i have added them to the video. even thought they are fairly fine 8 mp jpg pictures from my digital camera and looks nice when wieving them outside of elements. Why and how do i solve this?
Also i wonder if there is a way to preview the pictures in big size before ading them to the timeline?
Can i change the time lenght shown for many pictures at the same time instead of changing them one at a time?
Will really apreciate help on this matter.
    Thx!

Okey I thought that cs5 was the big really proffesional program.
I want to do much more than just slideshow but thought that would be an easy start and i had the fotage already.
I want with more features than moviemaker or similar but having to use another program to not get bad quality pics is not what i expected.
    I'll check your tutorials out.
    Thx

  • What resolution to export images for projection?

I am trying to figure out what to set the tage parmaeters in Foto Magico for a slideshow to be projected. The only information I have about the projector is that "images are generally best at 1050 on thier longest side." Not very helpful. I have multiple dimensions - 4:3, square, etc. Just trying to figure out what to set the stage to so I can create an export parameter fpr my images at 1050 on longest side still have some black around. The only info I can find is HD resolution, which I don't want as it seems to be cropping my 4:3 images. Any thoughts or FM users?
    thanks
    Nancie

I agree it isn't very helpful...but that is all I have been told. Still trying to fiond out what the projector resolution is.
I am using a fit within...but everything I am reading about projectors tells me I should be able to use higher resolution for a projector. This is more of a Foto Magico question as it pertains to images coming from Aperture.
It is less the image resolution and more the slideshow settings I am trying to figure out. Maybe this is not the right place to post...  Thanks Frank.

Hi, does your MacBook have Firewire, or just USB?
FW is far faster if you have that.
    Avoid Bus powered ones.

  • Amount of pictures allowed for slideshows?

Hello everyone. I was wondering if someone might be able to help me with my question. I'm thinking about buying photoshop elements 8. One of the main reasons is for slide show making. Does anyone know how many pictures can be downloaded per slideshow? Also, how many songs can be downloaded per slideshow. I've been using Photostory, and they only allow 300 pics max. I was just wondering if photoshop elements 8 allowed more?
Also, while I have you here, is this program good for slideshows, or would you reccomend a different program?
Thanks so much in advance for all of your help!
    Rich

I have used Photoshop Elements to make slideshows - but I would not say that it is good for making slide shows and I would not recommend purchasing it specifically for making slide shows.
-- I don't think there is a specific limit on the photos in a PSE slide show : however, many people do encounter effective limits based on the hardware and software configuration of their PC/laptop. There have many posts on these forums where people failed at 200 - 300 photos.
-- You did not say how you will use this slide show. You should be aware that if you wish to create a TV playable video DVD (MPEG2) you most probably will need to also purchase Adobe Premiere Elements.
I suggest that you also post your question on another forum like elementsvillage.com which has photo and slideshow discussions about software other than the Adobe products.  ProShow Gold is a product I have seen recommended and hopefully someone at elementsvillage forums can give you guidance . I suggest that you post in their General Elements Discussion subforum.

  • What resolution should i take for a movie to be played on 70X20 LED display?

I am working on an animated video that will be played on 70X20 Feet LED display. What resolution should i take?

size of the screen is 80640 X 23040 (in pixels)
You are going to need a monster to playback something like that. Are you sure? The max comp size in AE is 30,000 pixels. Your specs claim a requirement for 80,640 which is about 20 4K displays.
The data rate for a comp that is 42 times wider than HD would be crazy and probably require an array of high end server grade machines and fiber optics to push even 20 fps video through the system.
As I said before, you MUST contact the manufacturer for their exact media specifications.

  • What resolution are photos optimized for ipod display? (post computer sync)

From what I've read here, iPod touch forces photos sync'ed from a computer through a optimization step for display on the iPod (and TV). Full-resolution images can only be stored on iPods that have "enable disc use" mode (which iPod touch does not have), and even that mode on older iPods could not be viewed/displayed on the iPod itself.
    Just curious...
    1) what resolution finally ends up on the iPod side (not sure if it is the same as older iPods)
    2) if the zooming feature on the touch goes beyond the optimized photo resolution to the point of interpolation to fill in the blanks
Thank you ahead of time for your insight.

    Anyone know?

  • What is the ideal resolution for photos when creating a photo book in iphoto?

Can you tell me what is the ideal resolution for photos I use to create a photo book from my iphoto library?

The DPI depends on the size of the image to be printed by the image file.  A 639 x 960 image could print a 3.5  x  5 photo at 180 DPI.  This website explains it further: The Myth of DPI.
So use the smaller photos only in the smaller frames on multiple photo layouts for best results.
