What's a good interface to record voice/guitar tracks in Logic Pro

Hello - could you tell me what would be a good interface to record voice/guitar into a Logic Pro project please?  Thanks.

re the firmware update - there is talk that this should only be done if you are going to use USB - and also that it needs to be done via Windows.........I am confused re this?
I don't know about that, I don't own a Phonic, but if you only have to do it for USB, well, then there's no problem and you don't have to do anything, so...
Also when you say DAW (what does that stand for?
Digital Audio Workstation; Logic, Cubase, Protools etc are all DAWs. You'll probably encounter this term once in a while...
I just want to make sure and sorry if i sound silly but I should be able to use Phonic as my interface with Logic Pro without using Cubase?
Yes.

    • What midi interface is it? Do you have a current driver? If everything is alright, GB should say (in the Prefs) "1 midi device detected".
    • Do you have the midi cables connected the right way? Connect the drum machine's midi out with the interface's midi in.

  • What is a good interface to get LE's max # of tracks?

I have heard goo things from folks using the FirePod, but what is a good interface for LE to get the max tracks it is capable of?

    Hey tele-player! LTNS!
Well, I am still leaning towards the FirePod, but since I have no immediate plans to buy anything, maybe something new will come out by the time I get to a position that I can actually make a purchase.
My day gig is being outsourced to India, and at my age, i really don't want to go out and look for another job. So I plan to do whatever else I can from home to try to make a living. Plus I am gonna get to play out again And I thought maybe I might offer my services to some of the young bands locally to help them record demos. So, this is a "down the road" situation for now. For that, I'll need to get Tiger as well as the FirePod, and a handful more mics than I have for starters.

  • What is the difference between the recorded voice ...

In Here Maps there are two option to download a voice to direct you.
What is the difference between the 'recorded voice' option and the 'announced street names' option?
The latter is much smaller in file size.
    s
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

It gives the benefit of announcing the name of the street?
Instead of 'after 200 meters turn right' it becomes 'after 200 meters turn right onto <street name>'
It is a benefit on roads with multiple lanes and in town with many small roads crossing.

  • How do I burn a recorded track, on logic pro?

How do I burn a recorded track, on logic pro?

    Bad?
I am far from an expert at Logic, but I found making a .wav file or .MP3 file fairly easy.
Using the edit menj, I select all the tracts in my arrnage window.  Having done that I bounce the selected tract to my audio hard drive, having named it.
I can then import that audio file and others into Itunes and then burn a list of compositions onto a CD.
There must be several variations on that process but that one works well for me.

  • What's a good level to record voiceover?

    Hi,
I'm completely new to audio production, and need to record a voiceover. I've got my mic hooked up, and am getting a level of some sort. What I'm wondering is, what's a good level? I mean, I understand that the closer to 0 dB I can get, the better the quality of the sound. But, in practical terms, as one's voice fluctuates, what "general" level should I shoot for? How much level is too little?
It seems that subtle movements of my head in relation to the microphone, or a little extra "energy", and I get clipped. Can anyone offer any suggestions/advice?
    Thanks,
    Vic

    Hi Vixter101,
To add a limiter to the selected track click on the 'i' button on bottom right of GB.
The Info Pane opens. Here you can add/Edit the effects on the Real Instrument Track. You should find the 'AUPeakLimiter' is what you are looking for.
If you need extra help post here again. There are some useful videos by Apple.

I personally recommend the macprovideo guys for video tutorials. The Garageband 08 and 09 tutorials are comprehensive and easy to follow.

  • Question about interface for recording electric guitar and vocals

Ok, I've been messing around with Garageband all day, totally stoked and I'm ready to get into it. Right now I'm using a First Act quarter inch plug to USB cord to hook up my guitar and start recording and after some messing around I got it to work.
Here's my question... to really make quality recordings, what's the best way to hook up the guitar? Is the way I'm doing it now fine with the USB cord or is some sort of interface better? Can someone recommend one that's on the cheap side? Also, I haven't tried yet, but what's the best way to record vocals? Should I invest in a USB mic? Can anyone recommend one? I have a Shure SM58 already, what's the best way to hook that up?
Really excited about this, can't wait to start cranking out some songs!
PS: When I use the USB cord, I don't see any way to control the recording level, and sometimes I get a Feedback control warning. How can I lower the level so I don't get that? Thanks!

I have a total now of 4 interfaces - I recently purchased a FOCUSRITE SAPPHIRE 6 USB - it's amazing quality and I only paid $149 for it at my local Guitar Center. I use it with my Guitar and everything sounds fantastic - they say the preamps are really high-quality for Mics too... I recommend it. I have a firewire interface too but the Sapphire is my man baby now - don't let the USB 1.1 fool you - it works flawlessly with my Mac and my Windows 7 machine too. It also comes with a selection of software including Ableton Live Lite and 4 really nice Focusrite plug-ins too.

  • Importing Garage Band recorded tracks onto Logic Pro 9 projects...

Hi,  What I am wondering is, can I use the Garage Band on my Mac Air to record tracks and then import them onto Logic Pro 9 projects that I am currently working on?   I have a MacAir which I like for the the portability factor, and then do Logic Pro 9 on my iMac at home.  Will this work for recording tracks of real instruments such as bass guitars or acoustic ones via an UBS interface and my MacAir?   And then be able to import them onto Logic Pro 9...   Im wondering if there will be a big sacrifice of quality or incompatibility issues?

Yes, I use it over WiFi and while it may not be as fast as manual copying via an external disk or thumbdrive (depending on the speed of your WiFi and the size of the fles involved), it can be a lot more convenient... and it is very simple to achieve.
    To answer your other question
There are two types of compression.. Lossless and lossy....
If you simply zip up your projects before sending you won't lose any quality.. as doing so doesn't affect the quality of any samples.. (ie this would be lossless compression)

  • Trouble Using USB Headset to record on a track in Pr Pro CS4

I just purchased a Logitech ClearChat Wireless Headset and am wishing to use it to record a voiceover on an audio track in the Audio Mixer. CS4 and Mac OS recognizes the headset but the Audio Mixer will not allow me to
enable a track for recording. I receive the error message......
Error message: "The previously selected ASIO driver could not be loaded, and may be in use by another application. The default ASIO driver is now in use."
    No other applications are running.........
Does Pr Pro CS4 not like these USB devices?
    Bruce

    Bruce--
I had similar trouble. It comes from trying to record from a mono device (your headset) into a stereo track (which is probably what you have, since that is what comes up by default).
Create a mono track. Set your system setting as you did to see your input from the mic.
In Preferences/Audio Hardware, select the system default device.
Now when you enable the track, and press the record button, you should be able to see your levels when you speak.

  • How do I record multiple midi instruments in Logic Pro simultaneously on separate tracks?sim

Hi. I am trying to record multiple midi instruments simultaneously into Logic Pro 9 through a MOTU USB Fas Lane so that it is similar to recording a live band.
    Essentially:
Track 1: Midi Keyboard - Motu Fast Lane Input A - Logic Pro - Software Instrument (Absynth)
Track 2: Midi Drum Kit - Motu Fast Lane Input B - Logic Pro - Software Instrument (Battery)
Neither Midi device can be set to a separate channel.
I would have thought this was a really common application (recoding from multiple live midi sources like a band would normally do) yet it seems unnecessarily complicated.
I gather what I would have to do involves:
    1) Going into the Environment.
    2) Creating a Physical Input
    3) Creating a Sequencer Input
    4) Placing a transofrmer between the Physical Input and the Sequencer Input
Where to go ffrom there I have not got a clue!
    Any help would be appreciated.
Incidentally I would also like to record two audio tracks at the same time as the midi track, but hoepfully that does not complicate things further.
    Thanks,
    Luke

I have it set to Performance mode which according to the owners manual: "This mode makes the XP-30 function as a multitimbral sound
source, and Performance settings can be modified. If you’re
using an external MIDI device to control the XP-30 in this
mode, it will function as a multitimbral sound source."

  • Recording Audio For Timeline With Logic Pro In Real Time

I do commentaries on videos and was wondering if there is an easier way than what im doing now..
Right now I export my video from premiere to a bad quality version and import it into logic pro and record the commentary there.
Then I have to bounce the audio and import it back to premiere.
Is there a way to get the same plugins that are in logic pro to be used in premieres audio mixer??
A dream come true would be that I could just record directly into premiere with all of the effects coming from logic pro.
Anyone know of any kind of solution or trick or anything so I dont have to keep going back and forth and to make this easier???
Thanks for any info I really appreciate it!!

I just hate going back and forth from premiere and logic and all the extra time wasted exporting the files so they will work with eachother.
I just thought of something else.... Is there a way that I can get the video in premiere to play the same time I push record in logic pro and maybe sync with it?
Like if I push record in logic the video in premiere will start playing then when I push stop in logic pro it will stop in premiere or at least stay in sync with it so the timing will be right?
if anyone has any ideas throw some out there I would love to hear them.
    Thanks!

  • Balancing iMovie4 Voice & Music Tracks: QT 6 Pro, or GB1?

Anyone here with iMovie 4, QT 6 Pro, & GB 1 experience? Or any experience with any version of the three?
I have an iM4 project with 1 voice & 1 music track. For the music track, I imported 7 songs from a CD into iTunes. The songs overpowered the voice. I increased the voice track by doubling the clips @ 150%, each. The songs still overpowered the voice, so I had to reduce the song volumes & used GB1 to do it. Now, the song volumes are too low, esp. when there is no voice between clips in the video track.
In other words, I'm trying to achieve a satisfactory balance between my voice & music tracks.
I've tried to compensate in iM4, with little effect, but readjusting song volume in GB1 is hit or miss, since I can't (I don't think) handle both voice & song in GB1. Well, maybe I can, but it seems too complicated, with exporting to GB1 & exporting back to iTunes (iM4, since what's in iTunes automatically is in iM4).
If I sound confused, I am. However, I have a QuickTime 6 Pro CD that I could load & I understand QT Pro can easily balance voice & music tracks, & since QT & iMovie are joined at the hip, that may be the easiest way to go.
The hitch: I haven't opened the package I received the QT Pro 6 CD in, because GB1, which I already have, works in adjusting music volume. I can get a $50 refund if I return the package unopened. (I'm cheap.)
Question: Should I go ahead with QT 6 Pro, which seems the easiest way to get to where I want, and be out the $50, or should I try going with GB1 to get the same result, but in a more complicated way?
The thing about GB1 (& I'm a newbie to it) is that I imported the 7 songs as 7 tracks into "My Song." I think I need to create a new song for each of the 7. Also, I'll probably have to import each voice track as a separate song, as well. It sounds very complicated to me, but it may not be as complicated as I think.
    Comments?

    Lennart,
I have David Pogue's Missing Manual book on iMovie 4, which covers the material in the link you provided. I cannot reduce the volume of imported music in iMovie 4. Even when I've augmented my voice track to 300% by copying & pasting over the voice track. iM4 just doesn't do the job. I reduce music volume to 10%, & it's just as loud as at 100%, so I've got to look at some other app to do the job.
GarageBand reduced the volume, but by too much & I don't want to have to go back & forth between GB & iM4. The only way I get confirmation is by burning a DVD & that gets tedious & expensive.
I have QuickTime 6 Pro & I understand (I think) that I can do the balancing of voice & music tracks, there. My problem is, I don't understand how to do that in QT 6 Pro. I shared (exported) my test project to QT & have a .dv file that includes only video & voice.
I created an iMovie 4 project that has only the music track & exported it to QT as a .dv file, also. I can't seem to get the music .dv file into the video/voice .dv file so I can balance the voice & music tracks.
QT won't let me import a music file directly; when I do an open in QT, the file I want to import is grayed out. Maybe I should go to the QT Forum.

  • Is there a way to show/reveal the piano roll (or score) from a midi input when recording an audio track in Logic 9?

I'm trying to record audio tracks in Logic 9 over midi tracks I've created using a software instrument.  I've done this before, and there used to be a no problem in seeing the midi information in the piano roll or the score while recording audio tracks, but it now impossible to reveal.  Has ayone else exerienced this?  Was there a change (update) that eliminated that as an option?  Or did I do something in preferences somewhere (unbeknownst to me when doing it) that has caused this?  Thanks for any suggestions.

Just open the piano roll fro the regions you want and deselect the chain icon at the upper left.

  • Multi-track recording (voice/guitar) in GB2,...which interface?

    hey there,
    I just need some advice here. I have an I-mac G4 700Mhz 768mb, 10.3.9
I am using GB2 now. I already had bought an i-mic 2 years ago, but now i want to record 2 or 3 instruments (guitar/percussion/vocal) at the same time but in different tracks. The I-mic isn't suitable for that since there is only one input.
So I am looking for an audio interface, with at least 2 inputs.
Looking at my Imac, what is wise? firewire or usb interface?
Oh yes most important thing is i dont want to spend more then 200 euros...
    does anyone have recommendations, ideas?
    hear soon
    oskar
