What's a good phone that will sync with iCal?

I'm in the market for a new phone, but have absolutely no desire to switch to AT&T, so the iPhone is out. (Sob!)
I really want to be able to sync with iCal, with support for alarms so I don't forget stuff. (I also want to sync with Address Book.) Can anyone recommend a good phone that's fairly compact for this?
Thanks in advance!

Have a look at any of the Sony Ericsson models - there are dozens of them to choose from and all (non-Smartphones) sync perfectly with the Mac.
iCal events plus To Dos will sync to the phone, and if a reminder alarm is set in iCal, the phone will remind you at your chosen interval before the event is due.

  • AT&T phone that will sync with iCal

I am looking for an AT&T phone that will sync with iCal (that is not an iPhone) that also does not require a data plan. Are there any options available to me? Or is there some kind of plug-in or application that would make this possible? Thanks!

    Greetings,
I can think of a couple ways to go about finding the answer to your question.
    1. Contact AT&T Tech Support and ask them if they have any handsets on which they support calendar syncing to Mac OS X.
    2. Find a phone on their website which you like and then contact the phone manufacturer to see if they support calendar syncing (The manufacturer is the one most likely to know as they are the ones who make the device and the software which would be required to do the syncing).
    3. Check the list of supported devices for 3rd party syncing software to see which devices are supported and then see if any of those devices are available on AT&T's network.

  • Recommendations for a phone that will sync with iCal and Addressbook?

I'm confused by the posts regarding what mobile phones will and won't sync with iCal and Addressbook. Apple has a list of isync compatible devices (http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/isync/devices.html), but it seems from some of the posts here as though phones not listed will also sync.
Can those of you who know about cellular phones that sync with iCal and Addressbook please recommend some models for me. These are the things I need:
    -Cingular service compatibility
-syncs with iCal (including to dos) and Addressbook (must store at least 1500 entries)
    -bluetooth
-a small phone would be nice
I don't care whether it has a camera, an mp3player, PTT, picture messaging, video, or voice activation. Wi-Fi would be nice, but it's not imperative. Also, please let me know if I would need to purchase any third-party software or hardware.
    Thank you.
    Todd Berliner

The supported device list contains a list of devices that Apple claims are explicitly compatible with iSync out of the box, subject to the limitations outlined in the footnotes at the bottom of the page [the ones that apparently almost no one ever reads] and the general rule that carriers may not support certain features [say, Bluetooth or USB] and may not support certain functions [say, calendar synchronization] with a supported device.
Manufacturers like Audiovox, LG, Samsung and Sharp are not supported, unless they run an OS listed below, instead of their proprietary operating systems. If a device is not manufactured by Motorola, Nokia, Panasonic, Seimens, Sendo or SONY Ericsson, it is generally not supported, unless it uses…
    • the Blackberry OS [which requires third-party software]
    • the danger HipTop OS [which requires third-party software]
    • the Palm OS [which is is supported but performs better with third-party software]
    • the Windows Mobile OS [which requires third-party software*]
*Windows Mobile 5 device support is not yet available in release software.
…or, an iSync-compatible plug-in has been written to extend support to a specific device or family of devices.
Julian referred you to a site where he has made a number of plug-ins available for various mobile handsets. Nova Media also sells a low cost package of plug-ins providing support for various handsets.
    http://www.novamedia.de/sync/index.html
Others have built single-use plug ins with various degrees of success, which you can find using tools like Google.
The bottom line: if you are going to vary from the iSync Supported Device list, you have to do some relatively extensive research, including searching these forums for your specific device, to determine if it can be supported. Many plug-ins are intended only to work with iSync 2.2, so Mac OS X 10.4.6 is a requirement in most cases.

Thanks for the reply.  I already have this info, but have spent several hours trying to cross reference with the product descriptions and the different carriers websites.  I was hoping there was an easier way.

  • Similar product to entourage project centre that will sync with ical

I have been using entourage, however, would like to just use ical. I like the project organisation in entourage and was hoping to find a similar mac product, something where I can bring tasks, notes, emails, files etc together based on projects. Nothing that mac offers in its iworks, ilife or mail program compares in this feature. I want software that is not too complicated but something that could integrate well with ical etc.
Any referrals would be appreciated. Thanks.

    A couple you could try:
    Bento (www.filemaker.co.uk/bento)
    Midnight Inbox (http://www.midnightbeep.com/)
    Omnifocus (http://www.omnigroup.com/applications/omnifocus/)
Bento's probably the easiest to get to grips with immediately, but people have very different tastes in this kind of stuff.

  • Is there a good texting app for a Macbook air that will sync with my iPhone and iPad iMessage and SMS?

is there a good texting app for a Macbook air that will sync with my iPhone and iPad iMessage and SMS?

    Hey bishopcheen,
Great question! Apple has announced that these features are coming in iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite. For more information, check out the “Messages” section of this page:
    Apple - OS X Yosemite - Apps
    http://www.apple.com/osx/preview/apps/
Messages gives you so many ways to start a conversation. When your iPhone is nearby, you can send a text message from your Mac to groups of friends, even if they use SMS. Or send a photo of your epic karaoke birthday party, then follow it up with a Soundbite audio clip of your encore performance. With Messages, it’s not just what you say, it’s however you want to say it.
Now every message on your iPhone appears on your Mac.
Messages on your Mac has always been a great way to stay in touch. But friends without iMessage couldn’t be part of the conversation. Well, now they can be. All the SMS and MMS messages you receive on your iPhone now appear on your Mac. So you can text any friend without picking up your iPhone. And the conversation stays up to date across all your devices.
iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite are coming this fall. I hope you are as excited as I am!
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • Is there an App that will sync with microsoft outlook calender?

Is there an App that will sync with microsoft outlook calender?

OK here is a problem I have with my calender- all the events are added mutible times for each event- at least 4 of each. So how do I get all of these mutiable events down to just one event. Now this also includes hollidays and personel events  on the calender from outlook. All this I think happened after sync to Cloud- not sure, could have happened after OS 5 update!!! Now this is on my iPhone 4. Now going to my calender on my home computer in outlook no events or holidays are showing in the outlook my calender. If I go to the icloud calender it has mutiable events and holidays like on my iPhone. Now how do I fix this without causing a problem with my other programs?

  • Any recommendations on productivity for database and project management, Bento was good but no longer sync with ical and address book

I've unfortunately updated to the new Bento on MakBook and iPad and synced my data and in the process it tells me that iCal and Address books will not sync any more.  I have several projects I am working on and looking for something that will syn with iCal, address book and Busy Cal to manage my  time efficiently and seamlessly. Help?

I think you're in the wrong forum - this is for developers, who write programs for apple products.
As for Bento, their problem is due to Apple's changes in the API.  The code that syncs with calendars and contacts is now deprecated, which means at some point in the future, it will no longer work.  This problem will affect all developers, so you probably won't find any replacement for Bento.

Have a look at this article: Syncing contacts and calendars to iPod with iTunes for Windows Vista or Windows 7
iTunes has the ability to sync1 your contacts and calendars from Microsoft Outlook, and Windows Contacts (formerly Microsoft Address Book) to any iPod with a display screen.
The maximum supported number of contacts varies by iPod model.
Note: iTunes can sync vCards (.vcf) or Windows Contact (.contact) files, but only from one program at a time. If you sync from Outlook and then Windows Contact, your previous contacts will be overwritten. Outlook 2003 or later is required to sync contacts and calendars from Outlook.  Windows 7 does not include Windows Contacts; Windows Contacts can be downloaded as part of Windows Live Essentials.
This article discusses how to sync contacts and calendars to iPod on Windows Vista. To learn how to sync contacts and calendars from Windows XP / 2000, go here.

  • List of email clients/address books that will sync with palm desktop 6.2

Is there (and if not, I think there should be) a list somewhere of email clients whose address books will sync with a palm Treo (palm Desktop version 6.2)? I have been happily using various palm handhelds for about 6 years now and have been syncing the address book with Mozilla and now Thunderbird  for the last couple years. I currently have an m130, but it's time to upgrade to a "smart phone" as I'm tiering of carrying around two devices. Unfortunately, the Treo requires palm Desktop version 6.2 which is not compatible with the Thunderbird palm sync. I have had the idea that Outlook (which I've never used or been exposed to) will sync with palm, but something I read gave me the impression that I would need to buy some third party software to make that happen, plus the $110 they want for Outlook. I would like to think there are other choices for someone who just wants to sync their smart phone with their email client's address book. It seems that such syncing ability would be esential to palm's sales and that a listing of all such syncing possibilities would be extremely beneficial to sales, particularly for new sales to people aren't already insiders on this sort of topic. The lack of ability to sync with Thunderbird may just cause me to stick with my old m130 awhile longer and give up on the idea of a nice new smart phone.

Wow, thanks a bunch! You just saved me from a long, involved, and discouraging search for an alternative. I'm using WindowsXP, palm m130, palm desktop 4.1, Thunderbird 2.0.0.21 and Thunderbird's palm sync conduit palmsync-2.0.0.x-wsm .  I'm wanting to purchase a Treo 700 on ebay, but went to the palm site, clicked on the support link, then the Treo 700, then the downloads tab and it directed me to desktop 6.2, which made me believe I would have to use that to sync a treo 700.
I do wish that both palm and Thunderbird would talk more about the palm Thunderbird palm sync. Unless you're a real geek or very determined (I'm the later), you're not likely to find out that such capability exists. I can't believe I'm the only one out there who needs to have my email client address book contacts with me all the time, so there has to be others who are looking for this.
Next stop, ebay - I have a smart phone to buy.

  • DKA790GX Platinum - What's the best card that will work with hybrid crossfire?

Hi everyone. I know this board is a bit old now but I've set it up for my kids to play oldish games and it occurred to me that video cards from that era might be inexpensive these days. What's the best possible card to use with the on-board card for its hybrid crossfire? Would it be better to just get a separate standalone card? If so what's the best that will work with this board? I'm completely out of the loop these days on tech and have no idea what will even be compatible anymore.

Quote from: KrisWood on 12-June-12, 00:27:34
Good news! I resolved my graphics issues without buying a new card. It all came down to a little logic. It used to work just fine. The game it's installed off the same disc as before, and there us no noticeable change in the install media. The hardware has not changed unless there has been some sort of electrical damage I cannot see. I had however updated my drivers many times over the last few years, and always from the AMD website.
I installed the latest MSI drivers for my onboard graphics and voila, it works!
All graphical glitches are now gone, though it runs a but slower.
I may still buy a new card. I'm favouring the HD4870x2 as the top of my motherboard's era or the slightly newer HD5770 which some reviews say is equivalent in performance. The latter uses the same GPU and shaders as the 6770 and is considerably cheaper.
If I go with NVidia it seems the best card in my price range is the 440GT.
Thanks, everyone, for all the advice!
i'd say the 790GX chipset would run a saphire radeon HD5770 card fine i have 1 of them on a different maufactures board that uses the AMD 690GX chipset and i have put both my HD5770's in that with crossfire on and had no issues at all just to try it out!
and the AMD 690GX is a lower more old chipset then the one your board has so i wouldnt see any issues with the board not accepting the HD 5770 cards at all!
i like the saphire branded ones better as they run much cooler and quieter then a stock card!

  • Why build a phone that wont sync with outlook??

I know I can upload all my contact info to google as  .csv, but why OH WHY did they design this thing that will not simply sync with my outlook calendar and contacts. Unbelievable. My iPad was seamless, flawless, simple.

Your premise is not true - the Razr (and any Android device) will sync with Outlook Calendar and Contacts.  There are many different options depending on how you are using Outlook (personal pc, corporate exchange server, etc) and what and how you want to sync.
Here is a pretty complete list of software to sync Outlook and Exchange to an Android device. If you click on the software's title you will learn more about it and it often will show you how to set up the connection.
