What's a "Previous local iDisk for a (name).sparsebundle?

I see this file called "Previous local iDisk..." and other references to "sparsebundle". In several cases it takes up many gigs on the harddrive. Can I safely delete these files? Are they related to my iDisk and therefore will refresh themselves in the future based on the cloud? Thanks, Craig

At some point you had an iDisk mirrored on your hard drive. You must have turned off the mirroring but never removed the old sparsebundle. Assuming you no longer require it then you can safely remove it.

  • Left over Previous local iDisks?

I just upgraded my computer and system and have 2 Previous local iDisks stored as parse bundles on my computer at 37G. Should I delete these or keep them?
    Any suggestions?

The local iDisk serves no useful purpose to me and only tends to confuse people. I have it hidden and sync turned off.
These stored iDisks are presumably just a reflection of what was stored there at some point in history. I know what I would do with them!

  • Local iDisk replaced with folder labled "Previous local iDisks"

I moved and when I plugged in and restarted my computer the disk icon was gone and it was replaced with a folder labled "Previous local iDisks." Everything appears to be working the same (Word, I can find my documents, etc.), but I'm nervous that this is a sign of something wrong and that I'll suddenly find all my information has disappeared.

Hi, iDisk is no longer supported.
I assume you had a .mac/MobileMe account at one time?
If so, go to System Preferences>.Mac or MobileMe and remove your username and password.
Unmount any iDisk you may have.
If it should fail to dismount then, (Yeah crazy deal), either reboot, or open Terminal & paste in this exact line...
    sudo umount -f iDisk/
It'll ask you for an Admin password that won't be echoed, but hit enter/return anyway.

  • Why normally we choose dot local extension for domain name

hi....i have one question about choosing the domain name mostly we choose .local extension for the domain why is so whats happen if we choose .com or any other top level domain extension.......2nd part of the question........
i have joined the domain its ok working my domain controller is my dns server as well now form the client computer when i open the google  it works my question is this ....how the query of google.com is resolved as i have a local dns server and in forward
zone its not mentioned what is ip address of google.....is it automatically referred to any other dns server or how its worksss.......??
    Thanks

    Hello,
Explanation of LutzMH about your first question was absloutly complete. It is a choice that administrators make to avoid collision between your local DNS server and global DNS servers.
About your second question I would like to recommend you to take a look at the Name Resolution process. But in a nutshell it is a hierarchy form. When you enter the website in your browsers it first check the local DNS servers and then move along to the
global DNS servers to find the appropriate record. It is worth mentioning that in Name Resolution process, DNS caches plays a key roles as well. For more information about Name Resolution process refer to the link below:

  • Cannot create local iDisk

On this G4 Quicksilver I cannot create a local iDisk any longer. I have a "Previous local iDisk for unokjellberg.dmg" on my desktop, but whether I stop and start synchning in System Preferences, automatic or manual, I do not get any local iDisk. I do get the serverbased iDisk though, but it is slower than the local one.
What do I need to do to correct this?
    Thanks
    /Uno

    Hi Christopher,
According to your description, you cannot create a global cube with the error
Either a connection cannot be made to the <SERVER>\<INSTANCE> server, or Analysis Services is not running on the computer specified. The following system error occurred:  No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused
    it.
Based on my research, one possible reason for this issue is that the GROUPING feature is used in the PivotTable, a session cube is created in the local cube connection. So in your scenario, do you use the GROUPING feature in the PivotTable?

    Hi Welcome to the forums
Here are some help pages done by CL Keith http://www.btinternet.com/~cbeddoe/others/noisemargin.html
If you post the full stats from your router
For homehub – type 192.168.1.254 into your browser
Navigate to ADSL Settings or use the A-Z at the top right of the home page and scroll down to ADSL Settings and click on it
Click on More Details and then post the full results.
also post the full results fromBT Speedtest speedtester.bt.com
Have you tried connecting to the test socket at the rear of the master socket
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal
also you could try the hints given by poster RogerB in this link they may help http://community.bt.com/t5/BB-in-Home/Poor-Broadband-speed/m-p/14217#M8397

  • What happens to my podcast files stored on idisk for itunes?

What happens to my podcast files stored on idisk for itunes?
    http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/mister-radio/id396811856

Any webspace that provides enough data transfer to cope with your podcasts will do fine. Although check the terms & conditions of whichever webhost you go for, as some may have restrictions on just using their webspace for externally linked files, rather than a website as well.
How much data transfer your podcasts use will depend on how popular they are. MobileMe webhosting allowed 200GB of data transfer per month. If you never went over that, then as long as the new host matches or exceeds that you'll be ok.

  • Windows "Regional Options" locale - JCE for 8bit vs 16bit character sets

I have a Java application that reads in an Encrypted text file. The text file was Encrypted using JCE 1.2.1 and Encrypted on a Windows system with the locale set to English(US). The Encryption uses Sun's version of the DES encryption algorithm.
This app reads in the Encrypted text file and Decrypts it and processes it's information.
This works fine on Windows systems if the Regional Options control panel is set to a region that uses 8bit character sets:
    - English
    - Italian
    - Spanish
    - French
But, if the locale is set to 16bit character set regions, the text file cannot be read and parsed. Such regions include:
    - Russian
    - Greek
    - English (Hong Kong)
At this point, I think I have two options, but I would love to hear about more:
    - Edit the Encrypting/Decrypting code (or the parsing code - parses through a comma deliminated file) so that the file that is Encrypted and Decrypted can handle either an 8bit or 16bit character sets
(Don't know how to do this)
    or
    - Programatically change the locale of Windows machines to English(US) at application start-up and then change it back to the previous locale setting on application shut-down
(Don't know how to do this either)
I'd appreciate any help. I'm not sure if this is an International issue or an JCE issue.
    Thanks in advance

I found an answer to the problem I was having.
The culprit were two special characters that the client was using in the encrypted text to distinguish between different fields and to distinguish carriage returns ( and ). The non Latin alphabet languages didn't know what to do with those characters so they substituted there own characters, thus breaking the parsing logic which was hard coded to look for and .
The problem also was related to the fact that the JCE works with byte[] arrays. FileInputStreams (which deal with byte[] arrays) seem to convert the special characters to new characters in non Lating languages to match what was going on in the JCE logic.
The easiest fix I could come up with, was to include a new properties file to be read by a separate FileInputStream. This properties text file contained just two characters (). When I loaded in this new properties file via a FileInputStream, the two characters () in the properties file magically change to match the currently active alphabet (or didn't change at all if the computer was using a Latin alphabet).
By checking the new properties file to see what the characters had changed to (if they had), I was able to know what to use to parse the encrypted data. And as such, regardless of what language the computer was set to, the encrypted data is now parsed correctly, as I took out the hard coding that looked specifically for the characters and and instead rewrote the code so it now uses the characters from the properties file (or whatever characters they change to) for parsing the content data.
I hope others find this useful.

  • How to find total recs in a local table for a particular condition

    Hi,
How to find total recs in a local table for a particular condition?
    Thanks,
    CD

Well, you may want to try this as well, and compare to the LOOP way.  Not sure what kind of overhead you may get doing this way. Here ITAB is our main internal table, and ITAB_TMP is a copy of it.  Again I think there may be some overhead in doing the copy.  Next, delete out all records which are the reverse of your condition.  Then whatever is left is the rows that you want to count.  Then simply do a LINES operator on the internal table, passing the number of lines to LV_COUNT.
data: itab type table of ttab.
data: itab_tmp type table of ttab.
    itab_tmp[] = itab[].
    delete table itab_tmp where fld1 <> 'A'.
    lv_count = lines( itab_tmp ).

  • Making use of local DNS for home network

I have an Apple Base Station and I wish to set up better local services on my home network, starting with local DNS. I see that the ABS will attempt to apply the <name>.local handle for devices but this seems inconsistent. What defines whether a host/file-server/printer/etc... will get a name and how is is defined? For windows machines, do I need Bonjour installed for this to work or will it take info from WINS or NETBIOS? For machines with DHCP addresses is there a way to set up some sort of dynamic DNS or bind a name to the devices MAC address?

Hi and welcome to the forum.
The actual Home highway box (with the telephone sockets and blue cat 5 sockets on the front) I would suggest you just throw in the bin.
You would also have had a special front plate installed that plugs into the BT owned NTE5.
Not sure what you had in mind, do you want to have a new line provided or shift your existing line over to the old socket?

  • HT202696 What happens if Apple Support expires for a product?  Does it mean there is no more help available and you are on your own just because you have an older Apple product?

We have a family of Apple products at home, and with every new one, we learn a new aspect of the Apple Life.  After switching to iPhone 5S and struggling between some applications, I've decided it is time to upgrade rest of my older devices requesting an IOS Upgrade to 8.1.2 for weeks.
My older iPhone 4 didn't have an upgrade, which was not advanced enough anymore to carry a new software, this I understand.  The upgraded iPod Touch and iPad Mini don't seem to have any problems with the recent changes so far.  However, the older iPad (2) we had is messed up, just like many other people's as mentioned on the pages of these discussion groups.  According to these user comments / complaints, it is obvious that upgrading to IOS 8.1.2 was not the right option to older version iPads just like it was not for iPhone 4; actually it shouldn't be an option in the first place.
On my previous problems with iPhone 5S, I've come to realise the practicality & functionality of the Apple Support system when contacted directly, instead of going through many discussion pages of people with same or similar problems where everybody is asking but just a few is replying.  So, I wanted to give it a try to find a solution to my recent problems with iPad, but this time Apple Support pages replied with "Technical Support & Service Coverage are both Expired" message.
First, I did not know that Apple supported its users personally, and I loved it.  Maybe this is because I didn't have previous problems with my old iPhone and iPad.  Especially the Apple Support - Chat option I preferred, where I got help step-by-step from Apple operators.  And then, I did not know that this service support was only for my devices until an expiration date, and this did not please me much.
Can anyone enlighten me on how to receive any response from Apple about what to do with problems of an old Apple device?

And as far as paying for phone support, here are a few tips:
If you call your carrier first and then they route you to Apple, you usually don't have to pay for phone support.
If you are talking to Apple and they ask you to pay a support fee, ask if you can get an exception this time.  That usually works once, but they keep track of the times you've been granted such an exception.
If you still end up paying the support fee, that fee only applies if it's not a hardware related issue.  In other words, if it can be fixed by just talking over the phone and following Apple's instructions, then the fee applies.  But if your device is deemed to have a hardware failure that caused the issue, then the fee should not apply, and you can ask for it to be waived after the fact.
This forum is free, and almost all of the technical support articles the Apple tech advisors use are available on this website.  Literally 99% of what they can do over the phone is just walking you through the publicly available support articles.  In other words, you're paying the fee to have them do your research for you.  It's like hiring a research consultant to go look stuff up in the public library so you don't have to.  You're capable of doing it; you'd just rather pay someone to do it for you.
It's like Starbucks.  You know how to make coffee.  Everyone knows how to make coffee.  And Starbucks coffee isn't any better than what you could make at home for far less.  But you want the convenience.  So you're really paying a convenience fee.  Milk is more expensive at 7-Eleven than it is at the grocery store... because it's a convenience store.

  • I just bought a used iPad 2, how do I change the previous owners info for the app store? Whenever I try to buy an app it asks for the previous owners password for the iTunes account. I have my own account Nd would like to use it.

Need help Changing the previous owners settings for the app store. I can't buy any apps. Because it asks for previous owners information.

I had this same problem, and it was erased.
For some really odd reason iPads sometimes retain the last user iTunes account on first visit to the iTunes store.
I am thinking it is actually the iTunes store recognising the iPad, and so 'helping' by showing the last log in settings.
So I would also recommend Erase All Content and Settings to start.
If that was done then what you need to do is log in, or create your own itunes account.
    This is in Settings, Store.
create your own iTunes account (or log in with an old one).
    Purchase something.
Then (as long as you don't have any app from the last owner on) it should never ask for the old account again.
