What's a reasonable file size for a poster?
Hi everyone,
I've created a poster that is going to be printed on 2 by 1,5 metres. It's in .eps format but it's like 2GB large. It has 118 ppi.
How can I compress this a little without damaging the quality?
Thank you so much for your help =)
Good day!
Why eps?
Both pdf and eps can employ lossy compression (jpg) but that does naturally affect the image quality, though with high Quality settings the effect may be practically imperceptible.
118 ppi sound sufficient for that size.

What is te max. file size for lightroom
i have some very big files. lightroom says that the are to big to catalog. but what is the max. file size ?
There is no MAX file size.
As John points out, the limits are on the number of pixels, not file size -

What is the maximum file size for CSV that Excel can open ? (Excel 2013 64bit)
Hello,
Before anyone jumps in, I am not talking about the maximum worksheet size of 1048576 rows by 16384 columns.
I have client whom has a 1.5 Gb CSV file, 1.9, 2.6, 5, 17 and 89 Gb file (Huge).
If I open the 1.5 Gb, the file opens (After waiting 5 minutes) and then a warning pops up that only the first 1048576 rows have loaded. That is fair enough.
If I try and open any of the others, Excel comes up to a blank worksheet. No errors. It just seems to ignore the file I tried to open. This happens from within Excel (File - open) or from double clicking the file in explorer.
Excel goes to this blank page almost imeadiatly. It does not even try to open the file.
If I try with Ms Access, I get a size warning and it refuses to load the file. (At least I get a warning)
I would have expected Excel to load at least the first 1048576 rows (If that is what there are in the file), and give an error.
The computer is more than capable (Xeon processors, 16 Gb ram, SSD hard disks top of the line HP Z820 power workstation).
With the 1.5 Gb file loaded to 1048576 rows, it uses 15% ram/pagefile. CPU's hit about 5%.
I have confirmed it is Win 7 64bit, Excel 64bit. I am fairly confident we are over the file size but without an error message, I don't know what to tell my client whom is looking to me for answers.
I have already discussed that the 89gb file in Excel is unreasonable and they are looking at a stat's package but I need an answer on these smaller files.
Anyone got any ides ?

The 1,048,576 rows & 16,384 columns is the
workbook size limitation in Excel 2013. Thus, I recommend we try the Mr. Bernie's suggestions to import the large CSV file.
1. Use VBA to read the file line by line and split/examine the import file in sections. If you have further question about the VBA, please post your question to the MSDN forum for Excel
http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/home?forum=exceldev&filter=alltypes&sort=lastpostdesc
2. Use Excel 2013 add-ins. Power Pivot and Power Query. For more detailed information, please see the below articles:

What is the maximum file size for Pages?
Hi,
What is the maximum number of pages and maximum file size that I can have for Pages document?
Thank you.chessmagnet,
As a practicality in a large document it pays to break it up into sections in different documents with the numbering carrying on from the last one.
Assemble the final document at the end when you need to create a T.O.C. and any hyperlinks.
Several users have reported being unable to save very large files and other problems.
It is a good safety measure anyway and as Yvan says it will work faster.

What is the actual file size for the iphone 4s update - 55.5 mb's or 832 mb's
Can someone tell me the actual file size of the new update for the iphone 4s On my iphone it is telling me it is 55.5 mbs but when I try to download the file thru i tunes it twlls me it is 830 odd mb's.
Thanks, michael.I suspect if you update wirelessly you are just downloading a "delta" updater whereas downloading through iTunes you are downloading the entire replacement firmware. Wirelessly updating does not take nearly as long for the download nor does it require completely erasing then restoring the device.

If I am making photo albums in iWeb, what is the ideal file size for the photo file?
My camera now is 7 megapixel, so the original file sizes are about 3 MB, obviously that'll be very slow to load.
To what file size should I save it to make it load at a reasonable speed and still have a reasonable quality? 500 KB? 200 KB?
In case this is a factor, the typical album I make would have about 40 - 50 photos.
Also, what are the best ways to batch converts -- making a group of photos 500 KB instead of 3 MB? I know a few time-consuming ways (ie. individually resaving the files) or using a thumbnail-making program (have used a program called Thumbs Up).
Any other suggestions? Thanks. If you are importing your photos directly from iPhoto to iWeb, they will be scaled down to a max dimension of 800x600. If you are using a photo template page or making a gallery page using the following method...
http://www.mac.com/web/en/Blog/013C4180-4787-4847-BAAB-319222AFC652.html
...iWeb will also make your thumbnails for you automatically.
For all your other freeform pages that you might make, it is always a good idea to size your photos down to their usage size. A good rule of thumb is to consider the width of your page, which by default is 700px. Then divide it out by how many photos across you expect to have roughly. So 3 photos across 700 pixels means that the photos should be scaled to roughly 233 pixels wide maximum. Just a rough approximation is fine.
The reason I recommend doing this is that if you drop in a 2500 pixel wide image into iWeb directly, and you only plan on using it as a 233 pixel wide image on the page... iWeb will do a fine job of scaling the photo down to size BUT it will also save the full resolution photo as part of your web page....not to use, but just for safe keeping. And if you ever discover the RSS feed on your website, you will see that iWeb makes all of these high resolution photos available for download, too! So beware if you value your original work! Don't feed them directly to iWeb. -
What is theoptimal file size for stills, and dpi?
what is theoptimal file size for stills, and dpi?
In video dpi is not relevent. What counts in video is pixels. In FCP most recommendations I have seen is to size your stills so they have no more than 3 times the pixels in your project aspect ratio. For example if your project is 1280x720 then stills should be no more than 3 times the 1280x720. This allows you to crop the stills and still have good resolution. If no cropping is anticipated then they could be the same size as your project.

What is an idea of maximum file size for a film in Captivate?
Hi there,
I'm creating an elearning course in Captivate 7, and it is being published as HTML5. This means the films I've imported are being converted to MP4s, and they are around 10-20mb in size once they've converted. They seem very slow to load on some computers - do you think the file size is too big? Or could it be another issue? Does anyone have a recommendation for maximum file size for films? They are 572 x 322px and around 1-2 mins in length.
Thanks in advanceProbably better guidelines that dictates 'size' of a vi are:
typically no more than 1 video screen in size
is it legible
and is it's function and operation clear.
I have seen examples of '1 vi does it all' that were many screens wide and tall, totally a flustercuck, and nearly 1 MB in size.
Globals and local variables (except for LV2 style) are typcially shunned for they can create a host of problems (race conditions, indeterminant data).
Use connector pane to wire controls and indicators to. Then use wires between vi's to transfer data. I tend to use clusters to hold shared data.

Maximum file size for importing into Premiere Pro CS6
Hi,
I'm considering recording raw video, no compression at 720p, 30 fps for 20-30 min. This woudl result in a file that is close to 80 Gbytes. I'm wondering what the maximum file size for importing into premiere Pro is and if I need to split this file up into smaller pieces. Any recommendations on how I may deal with uncompressed raw video that is pretty long in length?
Thanks,
SerenaThere is bound to be some limit somewhere in the program, but you should be well below that. The biggest issue might be whether your computer is up to the task of handling it. If you will post your computer specs., someone will give you comments on that aspect.
Good luck,

What is the maximum file size recommended by Apple for Pages documents.
Yes this question was asked in 2009. However it was not answered.
It is not feasible to break a document into different files when the purpose is to submit a book for publication on CreateSpace, One PDF file must be submitted.
So, does anyone know the recommendation from Apple, because I cannot find it. Or, has anyone successfully worked with 400 MB files or larger (image intensive)? You haven't said what version of Pages.
The question in 2009 would have been for Pages '09. It has problems with very large sizes. Where exactly the problems start probably has not so much to do with file size in Mbs as in layout complexity.
Going on experience here, I wouldn't cut Pages 5 that much slack, particularly as anything in a Pages 5 document is only good so long as you can still open it in Pages 5.2.

Hello,
I upgraded my machine to Win7 x64 Pro about 3 weeks ago. My HW is an Asus mobo, Intel Q9450 w/8GB RAM. The boot drives are two Raptors configured as RAID01. All the drivers are the latest available from Intel, Asus and 3rd party vendors. My WEI is 5.9, limited by the disk transfer rates, otherwise 7.1 and 7.2 on the other indexes.
I've been receiving these errors at boot;

Cheers!Session "Circular Kernel Context Logger" failed to start with the following error: 0xC0000035
As suggested above I assume this is a microsoft issue? It has been discussed here and other forums for quite some time. I never have seen a fix? I wish when we received errors of this nature microsoft would tell us what they were. How is this related to superfetch? What is superfetch? Why would superfetch have changed?
BY THE WAY.... Superfetch is on(started) is on automatic and logs on as local system. So this is not the cause of my issue. Also what is readyboot? Does the average computer really know what these programs/services or unique microsoft words/terms are?

Can i have a smaller file size for songs that i put on iphone vs mac
i have ripped a lot of my cds to itunes on my MBA. i used the aac high quality setting.
is there a way that i can upload lower quality/smaller size versions of the songs that i will put on my new iphone ?
Q2: once i rip cd into itunes (on my MBA)... is there an easy way I can later decide to save space and re encode them at 128 instead of 256 (for example).
i notice that you cant just willy nilly copy/delete from the itunes media folder because itunes doesnt seem to 'refresh' with the new files.
thx!1. the ONLY place i see where you can set the sampling rate, etc is under preferences/general/'when a cd is inserted".... am i missing something?
No.
2. when i want to add an existing mp3 file (from outside the apple realm) , i am using itunes "add to library" and browsing to some mp3 file(s) . it doesnt give me a option to convert it to an m4a format... it seems to just add it to the itunes library without changing the mp3 file .... do i have any option here?
You don't need to convert formats and I would not recommend you do so. You will simply lose quality.
To answer your original question...
can i have a smaller file size for songs that i put on iphone vs mac
If you want smaller files on the iPhone, see my post above which converts them when syncing to theiPhone.
If you really want to convert when adding songs to iTunes...
iTunes prefs > General - Import settings as you want.
Hold Option (Mac) or Shift (Windows) and choose File > Create New Version > Convert AAC (or what your settings are in previous step).
This will convert and add the file instead of adding the file then converting and having 2 of the same song in iTunes. -
What is the max file size that a Adapter Engine [J2SE] can handle ?
We are having a scenario where a 4 GB compressed file needs to be sent across without mapping, I'm trying to explore the possible options to tackle this scenario.
Some of the options, we are considering :
- Sending a file from one Adapter Engine [J2SE] to another Adapter Engine [J2SE] bypassing PI. Adapter Logs will be monitored. What is the maximum file size that can be then handled assuming a standard installation ?
- What is the max file size that Adapter Engine [J2SE] can send through PI without mapping?
Any help with the above options or with any other possible solutions to handle extremely large file transfers will be much appreciated.Hi,
j2se is not a good option here
if you have 4gb then you need a copy solution
a) build an proxy that will just copy the file from sender dest to receiver
b) build an adapter that will do the same as proxy)
this way processing of this message will be controlled with SAP PI/XI
it will be as quick as copy & paste of the 4gb file
I did the a) for one of the flow for 300 mb and it works perfectly
