What's All This About PNG Movies?
A friend phoned me today to ask the best way to export a project to save on her hard drive.
I told her that usually it was sufficient to select File>Export>QT Movie and make it self contained.
She mentioned that she had been told a PNG Movie was the best way.
I confessed my ignorance . ... . I had never heard of a PNG Movie, though I had heard of (and used) PNG still photos.

Can anyone give me the pros and cons of the format as I don't know how much of the article I can believe, and what do you consider to be the best way of saving your DV/HDV projects on a hard drive?
png is a reasonable video format. It's lossless and supports alpha channels.
It's designed for web-delivery, not editing.
But if you want the most accurate output of your FCP sequence,
export it using Same Settings. Each time you recompress to another
codec, you lose a little quality.
When you talk about "saving your ... projects", do you mean exporting
as the next step before delivery? If so Same Settings is the way to go.
Or are you talking about archiving? There are lots of posts here
about archiving.
My preference is to keep the archived project editable. Which means
keeping the original media files, FCP project, copies of special plug-ins,
fonts, etc., (but not render files) so if I need to make changes a year from now,
I can.
Some people "archive" their work by exporting a Same Settings self-contained
version of the final edit. But there's not much you can change after that.

You have two devices....the Netgear and Time Capsule both configured to act as routers on the network. You only want one device providing this service.
I suggest that you configure the Time Capsule in Bridge Mode as suggested to eliminate the Double NAT error. Unfortunately, the Guest Network cannot be enabled in this setting.
No other adjustments are needed and everything else will operate normally...and the Time Capsule will still be providing your wireless network signal.
Once the Time Capsule is configured in Bridge Mode, it would be an excellent idea to perform a complete power cycle on the network to allow things to reset properly.
Just power off all devices on the network in any order that you want
Wait a minute
Start the Netgear device first, and let it run a minute by itself
Start the Time Capsule next the same way
Continue starting devices one at a time the same way until everything is powered backup
The other option you have is to "ignore" the error and the light will turn green. The Double NAT error may...or may not cause some issues for you down the line. The next time that you update the Mac operating system, or update the firmware in the Time Capsule, it may likely change the Time Capsule to Bridge Mode automatically.
If your Guest Network "disappears", you will know why this happened, and you will have to manually configure the Time Capsule again in Router Mode to provide DHCP and NAT services.
Double NAT can also cause a slow down of web page loading. You may...or may not....notice this. -
What's all this about aperture slowness?
I recently tried aperture on a new imac with stock card and it seemed to work perfectly. (The thread i started on this was largely ignored.)
As a result I decided to get Aperture for my 2x g5 1.8 with 1.25 gigs of memory. It has the FX 5200 unsupported card, so I ordered the 9800.
In the mean time I found a cut and paste hack so I could install aperture on the computer with the old card. To my surprise it seems to work fine.
So what are the things that are supposed to be slow and demand an expensive card? What makes most people insist an X800 is the only thing to consider? (Which I cannot even afford.)
I am using canon raw from a digital SLR and they are all on a second hard drive. I really cannot see anything that is slow. Should I cancel the order for the new graphics card?????

Still, even with this unsupported card, the adjustments work well if I use the tiny arrows rather than dragging the sliders. The sliders work, but they lag behind by about half a second, which isn't so bad considering the video card.
I have cancelled the new card, but I think I will order it again. I have 3 questions if any one can help:
1. with the radeon 9800 pro 256mb, what performance problems will persist and how bad?
2. I can get the same card with 128mb of memory for very cheap. The tests I have seen show that the speed is the same but these tests are only for games! At the moment with my 64mb card Aperture puts 4 raw pics into the memory cache. I am guessing that extra memory will only increase this number. Does the extra memory do anything else?
3. Are there any speed tests of different video cards on the net that use Aperture and not games???

What is all this about 'weeks'.
Sorry if this sounds stupid, but how do you know what week a MBP is? All I see on the web site is "now shipping". What week are we on now? What is the best week? Can you order a spacific week MBP?

EDIT: Well, the store doesn't know how to tell what week it is even after I explained what all the letters and numbers mean. sigh After I told them that they should check again, they simply said that they can't give this information away. BS.
EDIT #2: Great, now I called Custome Relations and got this lady who wasn't even paying attention to me. As I was asking my question, she was typing something and then asked "I'm sorry, what was that?". Later she said that there's is no way she could help me, and no one I could ask about this. Go Apple! What's all this about ID Profile?
Just read another thread where someone tested their BB speed and the results included a message like: IP Profile for your line is - 2500 Kbps.
His problem (it was initially slow speed) was solved by recommending that the connection not be reset and after a few days the profile would increase and the speed would improve.
What's that all about?

Thank you for your patience; I suspect this matter will go over my
ability level quite soon. However I think the following might show
something of interest.
I have a Backup Intego Assistant app in my applications folder.
I have clicked on this and it produces a screen with four or five
panels but no reference to an uninstaller.
The left hand panel is headed scripts and has 2 entries.
1. A lifebelt + Backup + Warning bell icon.
2. Two semi circular arrows with the word Synchronization. (sic)
The right hand panel has mini panels marked source, whatever +
various options.
I'm thinking the warning bell icon may be connected to your thought
that the app may be out of date because I half remember an update
being offered some time ago which I ignored as I didn't understand
what it was !!!
Funny thing is the app is there; it produces the screen but the trolley
DMG says there is nothing to uninstall.
Its late now so I will have a closer look at the macrumors suggestion
in the morning … but if you have any observations about the notes
above ???.

I have been popping 'round to these forums since forever. Today is the first time I even noticed the whole "helepful/solved/points" thing, because I was answering someone who solved my problem and the forum poked me about it.
I dutifully searched around to find some big sign that says "Come learn about points!" and couldn't find it. Searched here and found people talking about it, referring to it, but only from a perspective of fundamentally understanding it to begin with.
Can someone point me at the comprehensive explanation and information regarding the points system?

And your thread title is really bad. You should put some hint as to what your question is in the title.
Now that that is out of the way, I would suggest disconnecting all external devices except for your mouse and keyboard, running for a while and then reconnecting external devices one at a time in an attempt to isolate the offending device. I'm inclined to suspect external HDD. -

Ok, What is all this "other" taking up space on my iphone and how do I get rid of it? It's taking up almost half the space on my phone.
"Other" includes data such as iPhone settings, contacts, calendar events, Safari bookmarks/cache/cookies, email and email attachments, SMS/MMS/iMessages, notes, app data, Safari cache, cookies and bookmarks, stored passwords, search index, home screen organization, wi-fi network data, etc. It should normally be about 1 GB. Yours in an indication there may be corrupt data on your phone.
Unfortunately the best solution to fix your issue is a restore. Back up your phone, then restore it using iTunes. Follow this guide:http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414. -

I have tried installing new version of itunes on my pc (windows 7 64 bit) but I keep getting an message saying MSVCR80.dll missing. Can amyone tell me how to resolve this please?
I've just (finally) managed to fix this problem today. I checked the Apple Support forums, and it seems a lot of people are having the same problem.
I rang the Apple Support line, and the very helpful man (thanks Alan!) talked me through it stage by stage. If you go to the following page on the internet: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5376 it takes you through the process. WARNING - it takes a little time!
Basically, the first thing you have to do is go to your Program Files and double click on your iTunes folder. There'll be a number of files with the suffix .dll - you need to move all the .dll files from that folder to your desktop - you can simply click and drag them on the desktop..
Next, uninstall iTunes - go to Control Panel / Add/Rempve Programs and when the list comes up remove iTunes. This will take a few minutes... Then reboot your computer.
Next, go back to Control Panel / Add Remove and Remove - IN THIS ORDER -

Apple Mobile Device Support
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot again!
Next, check in your Program Files that the iTunes folder is completely gone - if it has, great: if it hasn't, right-click on the folder and press Shift and Delete - it will say "Are you sure you want to completely remove the folder "iTunes"? Click on "Yes".
Reboot!
Then go to the iTunes download page and voila! It should download iTunes without any problems... well it did for me.... Good luck! -

i seen in a local speed checker that over the road got 51mb with is great and 10mb upload witch is amazing !

Go to Solution.ahh thank you that was what i wanted to know , yea i dont know there the master socket is , i know where the modem is now and phone line as 2 years ago , i have a master socket to upgrade it if they dont but aint going to say no if they do it for me i want it where i can set up all my other network stuff so where A phone line was 2 years ago was next to stairs and front door a horrible place to have it , but the routers in a great place but dont want a long **bleep** cheap extension cable effecting the speed
but yea was wondering what would happen if was under 50 and i dought very much previous owners had infinty 2

I have my first (very basic Motorola Citrus) smartphone, with only the 150MB/month data plan. I'd like to turn off unnecessary stuff, but I have no idea what half the status bar symbols mean, or what all the apps running are. Only some of the symbols appear in the (very thin) user manual or online help, and as far what shows up in "Running Services" - none of that is explained anywhere. I have no idea if it's safe to turn any of this off - if that will speed things up, stop a data hog, or have some big negative result. Again, NO INFO available anywhere about this that I could find.
