What's apples policy for helping students?

I recently had a problem with my macbook pro that made the computer un-usable and brought it into Apple to have it fixed (I have full Apple care support)
When I brought it, I let the worker at the genius bar know what I have done to the laptop and the problems I eliminated. I was able to eliminate a failing hard drive because I replaced the hard drive and was able to eliminate an OS issue as I did a clean install.
I let the worker know I need this laptop ASAP as finals are in a few days, and as a computer science major, my computer is everything. He told me chances are I would get it back on Sunday.
Waiting for a call on Sunday I assumed they were running behind, at 6PM I received a call and they asked me a few questions. They wanted to know if they could delete the OS because they think the HDD is failing. I couldn't believe they still thought it was the HDD when I told the worker it COULDN'T be the HDD as I replaced it and the same problem occured with 2 seperate HDD's. The call was "lost" after about 5 minutes of me telling the guy I told the person I handed the comptuer to all of those things.
I NEED my computer back for finals. I have assignments I need to do and can't do them all in the computer labs. I need someone to assist me on getting my laptop back as soon as possible.
I left the Apple store extremely satisfied, but after that call, I can't believe nothing was transfered to the guy working on my computer.

You're not talking to Apple here, just other users. No one here can help you get the system back.
If you feel there is a problem your first step should be to contact the store and speak to the manager. But truthfully once the system is in for repairs it is difficult if not impossible to push things along.
Given that you paid for Apple Care on the system it would have been better for you to take it in at the first sign of a problem rather then doing all that work especially swapping out the disk.
As someone who did time repairing systems I have to say while we would listen to the customer and take what they said  into consideration we would still start at step 0 as far as the diagnostic and repair procedure went. A customer doing any work on the system before us usually slowed things down.

What is Apples policy on dead pixels, before I lug the beast to an Apple Store

    Hi david,
We are not Apple, only end-users like you so can't speak for Apple repair or warranty polices that aren't published on one of their support pages. Your best action is to call the store to which you'd have to lug the beast and ask to speak to a repair technician.

I don't know about steve---but I've owned 8 iPhones (5 for me and 3 for my wife) starting with the 3G and ending with my current iPhone 5 and none of them had a display problem of any kind.
Several of my family members also have iPhones--about 10 more, I'd guess, and none of them have a stuck pixel, either.
If I had received a display with a stuck pixel I would have definitely returned it immediately.

  • Hello, I would like to know what is your policy for higher educational institutes or with whom should I be in touch with? Thanks

I would like to know what is your policy for higher educational institutes or with whom should I be in touch with?
Thanks a lot for your help,

Apple HED has no published email addresses, and since Apple does not sell their products directly in Israel, you will probably need to work through local distributors or dealers in any case. I would suggest contacting Apple's authorized distributor, iConGroup:

  • What to buy, macbook for a student.

    Hi
As Christmas is near, I am about to purchase my first macbook, it will be used for Internet browsing and other basic tasks, although do wish to get into photo + video editing using iPhoto/maybe aperture and when I can afford it fcpx [i have a dslr]. I plan on carrying it occasionally if that's any help.  My confusion is wether to purchase a 13 inch MacBook Air upgraded (i7, 8ram, 256ssd)- this is at the MAX of what I can afford, or the top end 13 inch MacBook Pro (i7, 8ram, 750hdd)-slightly cheaper. I have done some research of my own to discover that the Mbp has more 'raw' power whereas the Mba is faster for everyday usage. I am planning for this laptop to last for the next 4+ years so would like it to be relatively future proof.
Any advice/tips would be helpful, I am genuinely stuck on a decision. This will be my first ever mac, and my windows pc broke 3 months ago so have been using and iPad ever since.
    Thanks

Buying a computer with the expectation of 4+ years of service is a tough niche for the MacBook Air to fill if you're going to be working with photo & video editing.
The 13" MacBook Pro with an aftermarket SSD or a "data doubler" is a pretty awesome combination. For example you can buy a drive sled from OWC, remove the internal optical drive from your 13" MBP and run an SSD in addition to the larger traditional hard drive. So you'll get all the speed of the SSD and the local increased storage.
That 13" MBP is going to give you the opportunity to go up to 16GB of RAM at a future point, the MacBook Air will not allow that. That flexibility right there will come in handy come the 3+ year mark of owning the machine.

  • What is the policy for dead pixel or stuck pixel in apple store?

Hi, i'm the new mac user here. I never use the MAC. I just bought it 2 day ago at apple store. I'm so happy when i carry it back to my home. When I turn on my macbook, I think to get 1 DOT bad pixel on my screen......Oh..Is it my fault??? I just bought it and i didn't do anything....I would like to exchange and try to tell the reason that is not my fault..COZ "THIS ITEM IS DEFECT"...I asked the stuff overthere. If i would to return or exchange, I have to pay 10% off restock fee..coz i had already open box. How's come I have to pay it? How can i know is defect or not if i didn't open the box. I just bought it 2 day agos. Is it fair for me?? I'm so upset with apple a lot. I have to take it back and put in front of me and see that dot in the next 3 year.......or as long as this mac gone.
My question, How u can fix it out for this policy? Do u agree for this policy?
    Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I had to return my first MacBook for a worse defect. They wanted to hit me with the restocking fee. I called the manager of the Apple Store I went to over and spoke with him. I explained the same thing to him that you stated here...Why should I be penalized for something I couldn't have known about with opening the box. I told him that I want to exchange it for a new one and I would not agree to paying the fee for that. However, I will agree to pay the fee to return it and purchase it from another retailer with a better return/exchange policy. He exchanged it on the spot, no fee.
My point...plead your case and explain that you are not going to pay a restocking fee for an exchange. Be professional about it. I'm confident you can make it happen.
You may also want to call Apple first. They can sometimes override the store and direct them to exchange it for you.

  • What is the policy for drag-and-drop in training mode?

    Hi,
I've captured an application in training mode. It contains one drag-and-drop action which obviously is done in full motion recording.
Only thing is, this doesnt work when you then do the simulation as a user.
Can drag-and-drop working in this mode? It seems not.
    Can anyone advise?
    Thanks,
    Joan

    Hi there
I'm guessing that you mean to ask if one is able to force a user to perform a drag-and-drop as part of a simulation?
Unless you program it in Flash or some other application it isn't avaiable. Check the link below for more.

  • What's Apples plan about supporting sites that need flash?

What's Apples plan for supporting flash websites?

Assuming that you are talking about the iPhone .... The plan is that it will never happen. This is very old news. There is no version of Flash that ever worked on iOS and there never will be since even Adobe decided that they will no longer develop Flash for mobile devices.

  • HELP! Project for school. What is Apples benefits and costs for consumers?

I have a project for school, and I'm focusing it around Apple. Ive done hours of research and cant find anything on the benefits and cost for Apples consumers. Help please?

Macs need almost no IT support, and sometimes none at all. One private educational institution (about 1500 students at all grade levels) with which I have been affiliated a couple years ago decided to equip its students, teachers, and administrators with iPads, iMacs, and MacBook Airs.
They have no IT staff. Zero.
Another, fairly large (Fortune 500 company) recently decided to replace all its Windows computers with iMacs and iPads. Less than a year later they laid off 90% of their IT staff, and reduced its associated infrastructure a commensurate amount. This was a benefit I knew would occur, but the C-level suite didn't believe it until seeing it for themselves.
(Edit to add... Blackberries were the only "supported" mobile device for a long time. iPhones were never supported, yet everyone eventually started using them anyway, even the IT staff. No one even seemed to notice this transition except in hindsight, after which it was already complete. Even today they're not "supported". Yet this business somehow not only managed to survive, it's been growing at a fairly healthy rate despite an awful economic climate.)
Another educational institution, this time a public one with which I've been more recently affiliated, equips all its students and teachers with MacBook Pros at taxpayer expense. Their reason for doing so was a study concluding that Apple hardware lasts longer, is more resistant to malware and its associated problems, and require less support than PCs.
Private institutions have always been sensitive to needless costs while institutions relying on public funding have traditionally been less sensitive to that need. That has been changing recently though. Taxpayers, teachers and students all win, of course IT staff has to find other employment for which they're qualified... whatever that may be.
Of course these amount to nothing more than personal anecdotes, but you can probably find thousands more just like it.
