What's behind the headset jack, Jack?

Because I have to use a device with an acoustic coupler, I need to modify a deskset telephone handset to be able to connect it properly into my iPhone 3G. One like this: http://tinyurl.com/7m3vtc
For that, I need to know which pin in the jack is for what and the nature of the phantom power, if any.
Who knows where those specifications are listed?
Thanks!

Hi Bryan, yes I have seen them. I even bought the bluetooth model thinking it would work.
The device in question is a pacemaker telemetry device, which saves me a trip to the hospital and assorted charges while allowing my pacemaker to be checked every six months. When I tried the bluetooth handset the tech on the other end said there was so much spurious interference that she could not get a clean signal from me. I'm suspecting the wi-fi/bluetooth rfi was simply too much for the coupler. A buddy of mine did tell me which pin does what now, all I need to know is if there's phantom power supplied and, if so, how much.

    Hi Koko,
welcome to the Sony Xperia Support forum..
If look at the headphone cover you should see a small gap using your finger nail you should be able to flip the cover out..
See image below, although not the headphone port, it should give you an idea of what the small gap should look like..
Edit: seems I was to slow in typing my reply..

  • Does the headset jack must be closed for being able to be used underwater?

For what I know, for Xperia Z3 could be used while underwater, all the ports must be closed firmly. Is it include the headset jack? Because I didn't have the closure cap during purchasing it.Or I have to buy the closure cap separately?

    As Phy said.
Z1 , Z Ultra, Z2, Z3, Z1/Z3 Compact. All phones have exposed headset jack that is waterproof without any need for cover.
However it would be good move to let the jack dry completely before using headphones.

  • HT4241 The headset jack does not function at all.

I have a MBP 13" running os x lion 10.7.4. The headset jack does not function at all. I can hear crackling in the headphones but not acual sound. I have attempted the the PRAM reset but I guess my timing is off because I keep running into the boot menu. I have a pair of Dre. Pro's that I am using and work fine on everything else I own. Thanks for the help

    Hi y,
There is a switch inside the audio jack that may be stuck. Try gently inserting an audio plug, gently wiggling it, and then removing the audio plug.

  • Using the headset jack with my accessory jack in car.

I have a question about using the headset jack in my car. When the iphone is plugged into my radio, how are phone calls received. Does the audio come through the car speakers or do you use the phone like you would with out it hooked up to the car.
    Thanks in advance.

The audio does not come out through the headphone jack to your car speakers. Phone call audio uses the built-in speaker and microphone, or a Bluetooth headset if one is paired. I have noticed that if I connect the aux patch cable +while a call is in progress+, audio is sent out to the car stereo.

  • I cannot get my Bose speakers to work.  They are plugged correctly and not in the headset jack

I have a new iMac 21.5 inch Led. 16.9 widescreen computer.  I purchased Bose speakers.  They are set up correctly and plugged in the back of the monitor in the correct slot (not headset slot) and I cannot get sound through  the Bose speakers.  I have tried the speakers on another computer and they work properly.  Can you help?

Hi. If the speakers are using a standard 3.5mm plug, they need to be plugged into the headphone jack. Please clarify which jack you are using.

  • The usage of the iRig can be harmful to the Headset Jack of the iPhone? (Cause, technically we are using a simple adaptor for Guitar Plug to the Headset Jack without changing the dBz)

    Hi Guys,
I'm not specialist on the subject, but I have a little experience about sound equipment and that is a question that came up to my mind.
I like my iPhone 4S and I love to play guitat, but I'm not sure where join both in play can be a good idea or not. Instruments inputs (dB) normally aren't compatible with microphone input (dB) and If both were put togheter in play without any other equipment to make the change between them, It can be harmful to the input one - in these case the iPhone...
So, I'd like to listen some ideas. If there is someone with more information that can help me with this issue I'd be greatful
    Thanks

as far as I know iRig is a simple adapter, it does not change or ballance the difference between the dB frequency of microphone and guitar...

  • What's behind the iTunes 2.0.1

After upgrading the iTunes to 2.0.1, then it gave a fantastic message saying "iTunes could not update the carrier settings on your iPhone. An unknown error occurred (0xE80000001). Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later".
I am sure my network setting is correct and my network connection is active. Here I have few questions on this happening, anyone can help to answer are welcome please.
    1. What does it mean the carrier settings?
    2. Why is it classified as unknown error? Seems this is only between iTunes and iPhone, who can know the problem if they don't know?
    3. How to resolve this problem?

    I have installed 11.2.0.1 in RHEL 6.1 ...
    Not a certified/supported combination - you will need a minimum of 11.2.0.3 for Linux 6.x - Oracle® Database
So expect issues with the install or the working of the software.
If you have access only to 11.2.0.1, use Linux 5.x

  • What is behind the scenes of "Automatic Discovery of Cluster Members?"

Do any of you know the basic mechenism ( or concept ) of authomatic discovery of cluster members?
And how can we be confident that an application deployed anywhere on the network (LAN,WAN, or the Internet) can join a cluster?
Sorry for this clumsy question, but I realy need to know this.
    Thanks in advance!
    Scott

    Hi Scott,
Coherence uses a protocol called TCMP which is described in the following Wiki article:
    http://wiki.tangosol.com/display/COH32UG/Network+Protocols
By default, multicast is used to discover if a cluster is already running that the new member may join.
In order to test multicast in your environment, you need to run the multicast test:
    http://wiki.tangosol.com/display/COH32UG/Multicast+Test
Some environments don't allow multicast or some switches don't handle multicast very well, in which case you'd need to run using WKA (Well Known Address):
    http://wiki.tangosol.com/display/COH32UG/well-known-addresses
    Regards,
    Jon Hall.
p.s. once you've confirmed that clustering is taking place (either using the default of multicast or using WKA), then you should run the datagram test to test your network's performance:
    http://wiki.tangosol.com/display/COH32UG/Datagram+Test
Also, check out the production checklist as this has lots of really good information in it that will be useful going forward:

  • IPad 3 Headset (Jack?) issues

Figured I would see what anyone else thinks.  I consider myself to be pretty darned knowledgeable about iDevices.  I have been inside iPhones, iPod touch, iPads. I can normally fix things easily. This one has me a bit worried
I bought an iPad 3 when they were released.  I bought it at Walmart for some odd reason (never again).  So when I checked out, the woman asked if I wanted to buy the protection plan.  I said no, because I always get applecare+.  She replied that it was the same as applecare, and I told her that I doubted it.  I said that if I have an issue with my ipad through applecare, I just get a new one.  She said you get the same thing here, but instead of driving 2 hours or shipping it off, you can come in here and get one. I decided to try it, and needless to say, it was not anything close.
The headphone jack on the iPad started doing something where when a set of headphones are plugged in, it would freeze up and then reboot, and get stuck on the Apple logo.  Then it started ruining headphones within 2 weeks.  No matter how many we bought, it would short them out or something.
So, I tried to take it back to WM, and they said they were not responsible, and that I needed to contact an outside source.  I did, and they had me ship it off to be repaired.  It came back, and you could tell that someone just like me had repaired. As a matter of fact, I could have done a better job
Never the less, it came back and the headset jack seemed to work.  However, it is already starting to do the same thing.  Assuming that they actually replaced it like they were supposed to, then I assume that it has to be something else.  Since it worked at first, I guess they did replace it.  I can replace the jack again, and just see, but I feel there might be another problem elsewhere.
Moral of the story, is DO NOT BUY WALMART extended service plan.  I think that the lady was not lying to me, but ended up selling me the wrong plan. After some research, it is apparent that Walmart has 2 levels.  First level is the service plan ($79), and then a replacement plan ($99 I think).
I will be fixing it this time

  • IPhone 3GS headset jack out of spec?

I have been experiencing problems (similar to some of the other posts) when I try to use Apple's standard headset and three other third party headsets with my 3GS.
When I plug the headset in, people can hear me, but I can only hear them faintly. If I pull slightly up on the jack, I become garbled to other people, but I can hear them clearly.
The same headsets that I have tested work on 3G iPhones.
It's my belief that the headset jack in the 3GS is out of spec.
I have gone in to the Apple Store and have received two replacement 3GS phones to verify that it was not something unique to my first phone. I am now convinced that there is a definite hardware issue that needs to be addressed.
Any help that anyone could provide would be appreciated.

Thanks for your suggestion. It's definitely not a volume issue.
I've been using the original iPhone exclusively with wired headsets since the very first phone was released. I finally upgraded to the 3GS when it was announced, skipping the 3G rev. As such, I'm super familiar with the functions of the phone.
It seems to definitely be an issue with the jack itself, as I have now tested it independently on 3 phones, with 3 Apple headsets (the one that shipped originally with my phone and the new Apple/Bose headset, and with a headset that shipped with a 3G phone). As well, I've tested with two third party headsets - one made for the 3G and 3GS and one that works on my old iPhone via a TTY adapter.
I'm really hoping that I can get some feedback from Apple directly as I don't know of any simple resolves for a hardware issue that has shown up on 3 phones and repeated on two unique trips to the Genius Bar.
Btw, while I was in the Apple store recently at the Genius Bar, the person behind me showed up with the same problem.

  • BROKEN HEADSET JACK IPOD TOUCH 64G

    Hi Everybody,
Last week I went to the beach and my iTouch tragically got fully covered by the sand; having thought I had cleaned each part of the iTouch, I inserted into the headset jack(the hole where you connect the headphone's jack)my headphones and realised there was still a stone inside of it, the cables/connections inside the headset got scratched and now, I can only hear through my left headphone... its horrible, the instruments get separated and the vocal sounds get separated... does anybody know how(and$)to repair it or any accesory to connect through the charging with a jack exit... i dont know what to do!
    Thank you!
(I'm From Spain, just for you to know and not to recommend me shops at Miami or whatever!hahah)

Apple will only exchange yours for a refurbsihed one for $99, $149 or $199 depending upon the capacity.  Just Google for iPod repair and you show find several palces to replace the jack.

  • Headset jack gone bad (PLEASE HELP!)

The other day, I accidentally yanked out my headset from the headset jack of my iTouch really hard. Now, whenever I plug the headset into my iTouch, I can't hear any music whatsoever. The iTouch is still playing music; I can hear music only when I put pressure on the plug of the headset. However, even if I apply pressure, the sound 'crackles' up and I have to apply more pressure. There's nothing wrong with the headset because I've plugged it into my other iPod, and I can hear music from that iPod. I've even tried different headsets with this iPod and the same aforementioned problem occurs. What should I do? I'm really upset about this dilemma and I wonder if anything can be done to fix my iTouch.

You can get the headphone jack replaced. If you are in warranty make a Genius Bar appointment and take it to your nearest Apple Store or send it in. If you are not try http://www.iresq.com or use Google for other 3rd party repair sites.
