What's going to be done about the Creative Cloud debacle?

Adobe is a maker of great software, but the 30+-hour-long disappearance of Creative Cloud revealed them as a terrible company. There was next-to-no information being released during the outage about cause, estimated time for the fix, or potential work arounds. Perhaps they were embarrassed that this was a self-inflicted error, but they should be even more embarrassed that their only response has been, "oops, sorry, we'll do better." People lost cash; they missed deadlines. A plan to reimburse customers should have been announced even as the fix was underway. They should comp every customer two months' service.
Meanwhile, I had been under the impression that the CC software could be used in offline mode. That's the way it should be. The software is paid for and licensed a month at a time, so it should only need to be verified once a month. It should not have to sign in every time it starts up. Completely ridiculous.
Mistakes happen and adversity cannot always be avoided, but the true test of a person--or a company--is how they respond and recover. Adobe, you are failing this test miserably.
So, what is going to be done about this debacle?

  • Why am I told that I only have a free trial version when I have a subscription to the Creative Cloud

    I have a subscription to Creative Cloud (student and teacher version), but whenever I open one of the Adobe programs (installed using the Adobe Application Manager after signing in with my Adobe ID), I am told that I only have a trial version of the app. I am given the options to register the software or continue with trial. When I try to register, it tells me that I will sign in with my Adobe ID. After signing in, it asks me to input a serial number, but I never got a serial number so I can't do anything. Can anyone explain what's going on?

    Now the software from CC has expired and I can't seem to figure out how to enter my license key.

    You can't license the creative cloud version with your serial number. The only way to license that version is with your Adobe ID and password. It will be necessary for you to uninstall that version and then download from here:
    Product updates
    After you install you will be able to enter your serial number. The work you have done using the creative cloud trial version will not be lost because the uninstall does not remove the catalog, nor does it do anything to the images that you have imported.

    The "playhead indicator" is a twofold tool. Click on the "clock" icon and it switches to Project Length:
    You can click and drag on the time clock to increase the project length if you need to see what's going on beyond your Play Range.
    The image below is an overview of parts. The Timeline view is opened to reveal layer timing.
    The "mini timeline" (the bar under the canvas above the clock) shows the entire project length. Usually that's the same length as the default Play Range. Use the play head clock to add more time if you need to reveal longer media "tails". You will not change the Play Range by doing so (you'll have to do that "manually"). You can even Share/Export your project with respect to Play Range as opposed to Project Length (there's a drop down option for that upon export.)
    If you're creating a template, FCPX only "sees" the play range.
    It's not a cool one-click option... it's just the way it is in Motion.

    I love the Adobe Creative Cloud, don't get me wrong. But where oh where is the sense in raising the cost of membership especially to long time users. I've never bootlegged software in my career, which is a real career with training, college and I teach design. I feel like the boot is being put in now. I haven't been able to raise my prices in years, but software prices go up all the time. I think I'll get a job in another field if I end up having to pay $50.00 a month for software that at most would cost me $350 a year to upgrade regularly. Yeah I know I have access to the whole library of products but meh.

    Yes, but when I bought my standalone license and clicked on the "Download" button it took me to the LightroomCC page. The downloaded file is named Lightroom 6, but in the CC app the installed program is LightroomCC (2015).

  • This is a two part question about the creative 16gb Zen?

    8This is a two part question about the creative 6gb Zen? First of all, my battery life dropped very suddenly. One charge I was getting the full 30 hour battery life and the next it dropped to under ten. I tried using their tips on how to extend the battery life and I am still getting less than 0 hours of battery life. Why would it dropped more than half the amount between charges? I tried recharging it after it ran out and still the same thing. Any help?
    Second, (I am adding this question because it might relate to the first in some way) my mp3 player has been behaving strangely lately. For example, some artists sometimes have letters removed or all but the first end up being removed. But, if you reset the player, the artists go back to the full name. Also, my player has been taking a little longer than usual to turn on. It takes about 30 seconds to turn on instead of the 5-0 that I'm used to. Does anyone know why this might be happening?
    My Zen is only 4 months old, and I would be very upset it it's breaking already. Please, if you have any suggestions on how I can fix what's happening, post them. (Even if they?probably won't work, they're worth a try.)

    < This is an unusual one; never heard of it before. All I can suggest is cleaning up and perhaps reflashing the firmware. If it still is doing this, then get the thing exchanged pronto.
    My guess is that the problems are indeed closely related.

    You can't install 9.2.1 or earlier on any Mac that is only Mac OS X bootable. In fact you need to use the restore disks which came with those Macs to install 9.2.2 on those Macs. 8.6 is only possible to install on Macs which came with 8.6 or earlier. The 9.1 disk may be useful for your 1999 PowerMac G4, but won't be of any use for a 2006 Powerbook G4.

    This has nothing to do with your pictures. As long as LR works, nothing happens. The CC app merely has lost an entry in the installer database. Would a reinstall fix it? Sure. Is it necessary? Not really (until the next version or update). So unless you have too much time to spend or something isn't working, I'm sure you can find more interesting things to do with your tiem. Otherwise use the cleaner tool and get to it:
