what's lacking in Firefox that I am overlooking

Firefox>Tools>Addon-ons>Plugins, what are you seeing for Java Applet Plugin? Is it enabled?
Open Java Preferences in Utilities. (This is from my 10.6, where I keep Java disabled.) Are these boxes checked or not?

  • The Firefox icon often disappears from the toolbar when I go to another window like Outlook or Media Player. When I close down all other windows it reappears again. What can I do about that?

When it has disappeared I can open Firefox again using the menu or the opening icon on the toolbar, but then it only shows up blank, so without the tabs that were opened before. Closing down all other icons on the toolbar is the only way to make the Firefox icon reappear and for me to open Firefox again with all my tabs.
Please excuse my English, the jargon is difficult.

    Thanks for your reply, cor-el.
The odd thing is, this problem hasn't occurred again since I posted it. What kind of magic is that? :-))
It really is odd, since I had it at least twice a week for several months.
    So far, so good, then.
I'll wait a while more, and will then close it as being solved. I guess that's the procedure.
We'll put it down to temporary bugs or pc mysteries.
Though I like the magic option more...

  • There are sites that will not open in Firefox that will open in Chrome...what is the problem?

In Firefox I cannot get into my webpage of my website company. After speaking with several techs on told me to download Chrome and try it through that browser. He said Firefox runs slow and pages can time out.
He was right with Chrome I have no problems at all accessing my website builder to make updates and changes...what's up with Firefox?

If BlueHost uses cPanel for it web hosting control panel the problem isn't brand new, we have seen reports of problems with cPanel since like Firefox 13. or 14.0 was released. You may want to do a search of this forum for '''cPanel''' and see if anyone came up with a fix or a patch.

  • What is the latest version of Firefox that will work with Windows ME?

We were recently given an older Gateway laptop that we intend to use solely as an internet terminal. Alas, it is running Windows ME and I don't even know if it has all the specs to upgrade (and certainly not to Vista, which is the only thing we have an install disk for). It currently has Firefox 2.0.0.20, which of course contains numerous security vulnerabilities and is incompatible with most newer plugins. What is the best version of Firefox that will work with Windows ME, and is it still available for download? Thanks!

Hmm... guess this will be just an e-mail terminal, hardly anything else works cuz I can't update Flash! Thanks for your help.

  • What is the version of Firefox that I have? Firefox 3?

'''What is the version of Firefox that I have?
Is it Firefox 3 or above?'''

    Try out Help->About Firefox
If it needs updating, it'll update from there, or at least tell you it's version number
Note: you may need to 'restart' Firefox
According to the Firefox website, 32.0.3 is the 'current' non-[https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/faq/ ESR] version
(at least for my system as of this post)
Was this 'message' or 'notification' from a website, or a website ad?
Just in-case, You may want to run a real virus check on your system. (not from some random ad, check with a 'geek' for help with this.)
Typically, don't trust random downloads that just come to you while you surf.

  • What happend to the Firefox triangler list history button that was just below the forward buttton.

What happened to the Firefox 3.x triangular list history button that was just below the forward button? It was kind of small. It was on the line with the web address.
Is there some option for getting it back?
I am running tenfourfox. I do not see a forum for them. I know it is a port of FireFox 4.0, so maybe the answer will be the same.
The history drop down is :
    -- in an inconvenient location
-- has extra junk at the top
-- is limited to ten items. Is there a way to increase the number ?
    Robert

Use one of these methods to open the tab history list:
    * Right click on the Back or Forward button
    * Hold down the left mouse button on the enabled Back or Forward button until the list opens
You can look at this extension:

  • The timekeeping system we use does not like HTML 5 so what is the latest version of Firefox that does not use HTML 5?

We have been told by our timekeeping system provider that the latest versions of FireFox, Chrome and IE are not compatible with their websites at this time. I was told that it was because of the use of HTML 5 by the more recent versions of these web browsers. I need to download the most recent version of FireFox that does not use HTML 5. Can anyone tell me which version this would be?

It isn't "Timesheet Next Generation", is it? We had a thread on that here: [https://support.mozilla.org/questions/961306 Websites using php and mysql stopped sorting drop down lists properly starting last week. Did something change?]
Unfortunately, HTML5 is a large specification with a lot of parts that has been implemented in pieces over the course of several years. It would be really helpful if your vendor could indicate what EXACTLY is not compatible and then it could be researched. Otherwise, you'd have to use trial and error. Either way, you would end up with an older browser that isn't safe to run on the internet. It could be time to consider other vendors...

  • After their recent upgrade Facebook no longer works for Firefox version 2.0.0.20, what is the most recent version of Firefox that will function with a Mac G3 running OS 10.3.9?

Facebook (FB) recently restructured their website. After logging on to my FB homepage, some of the graphics are garbled and I am no longer able to post status updates, comment on friend's status updates or pictures, or post pictures using Firefox version 2.0.0.20. I would like to know if there is a newer version of Firefox that will function with a Mac G3 Blue and White desktop running OS 10.3.9 which will be compatible with the new FB? I would upgrade my computer, but have 22+ years of business and tax records that will not function with the newer Mac OS.

Other browsers that you can look at:

Firefox 3.6.26 on Mac OSX, Youtube search window has vanished. I cannot search youtube for video. If I use Safari to open Youtube the page appears as it used to with Firefox--that is with the search window.

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.
    "Clear the Cache":
*Firefox > Preferences > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
*Firefox > Preferences > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

please let me know which of your upgrades will work with my operating system.
i cannot lose contact with all my accounts. that is what happened the last time i tried to upgrade.

Firefox 2.0.0.20 is the last version of Firefox that works on OS X 10.3.9
There are some alternative browsers you can try:

  • There is a function in Firefox that is resizing my images automatically. How do I turn it off?

When my high speed internet provider no longer allowed the use of Internet Explorer 9 on there @optonline.net web site I had a choice of Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome. I chose to use Mozilla Firefox. I immediately noticed that my pictures were being cropped and that's outgoing and incoming pictures and my screesaver picture was also cropped.
This is very annoying and it makes it difficult to communicate. I was told by my high speed internet provider Optimum looked up the issue and she told me there was nothing she could fix because it had to do with an automatic "resizing" feature of Mozilla Firefox.
This past Weds. Internet Explorer was allowed back on the Optimum site and after fixing all of the features that I needed to communicate I saw that the Firefox resizing issue went over to Internet Explorer also. Please, does anyone know how to turn off this Firefox automatic picture resizing? I know it must be simple but it's got me baffled.

What does that mean? Are you viewing standalone images, images on a regular web page, images in a webmail site like Outlook, or something else? Attach a screenshot of the problem.

Is your page zoom level set very low? Hold down '''Ctrl''' and press '''0''' (that's zero) to reset it.

  • I noticed after switching from IE9 to Firefox that some website videos will not play. How is this corrected?

I sometimes want to look at how-to videos. Some play and some do not in Firefox. When a message does come up on the screen it says someting like 'sorry, but the video will not play...do you wish to download the plugin?'. Because I am very catious about what I download, I am not confident about downloading a plugin. Does anyone know what I need for Firefox to play all website videos?

I am adding this to my original question:
I see that quick-time is an available plugin...Is this soething that will work?

    Thank you

You're welcome. Glad I was able to help you.

  • I get an "Error Encountered" message from Semantec when I use Firefox to visit any web-site. What is wrong with Firefox?

Even now while visiting support.mozilla.com, I get an "Error Encountered" message from Symantec. I don't get this message from Safari.
Symantec suggests that I support the site to Symantec, but it is every web site I visit using Firefox.
