What's most effecient way to load dvd op sys to G-4 with only cd capab ?

Have 2 Macs. Recently upgraded newer one to Tiger (full version). Would like to use my original 10.2.7 OS to load on my older machine but it only has CD capabilities. What's most efficient way to do this? (I'm assuming it's legal to do so since I bought a new version for my new machine).
PowerMac3,6   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Hi Bill, and welcome to the discussions.
Since you purchased a version of Tiger for the newer Mac, what you want to do would not violate the spirit of the licensing agreement (one install per copy of the software).
That said, what you want to do will likely violate the technical limitations of your original 10.2.7 installation DVD. Grey installation DVDs shipped with specific hardware only contain the drivers for that specific hardware. In other words, if the newer Mac is G4 MDD tower with FireWire 800 and a dual 1GHz processor, that's what the DVD will be expecting when it tries to install the system software. If your older machine is a G3 iMac, the DVD won't recognize the processor, CD drive, CRT monitor, or anything else on the logic board. It simply doesn't have the drivers required to support the different hardware.
If the older Mac has FireWire, you can install your original 10.2.7 on it, but there's no guarantee it'll work. Here's how:
1. Boot the old mac into Target Disk Mode (hold the T key while booting; when done, you'll get an orange FireWire icon bouncing around on a blue screen);
2. Connect the computers using FireWire cable, and the old mac should mount as an external hard drive;
3. Reoot the new mac from the 10.2.7 install DVD;
4. When it comes time to select the destination for the install, select the old Mac;
5. When finished, turn off both computers, and disconnect the FireWire cable;
6. Restart the old mac, and if you're really luck, and the hardware on the two macs isn't too different, it'll boot to 10.2.7;
7. Download the 10.2.8 Combo Update and install.
Just remember: the greater the difference in hardware specifications between the two macs, the greater the likelihood that this will not work.
Good luck!
Andrew

  • Most effecient way to generate XML output

What is the most effecient way to generate XML output using ORACLE.
Presently I am aware of the following:
    1)DBMS_XMLQUERY
    2)DBMS_XMLGEN
    3)SQLX functions
We are using the first 2 in our database to generate hierarchical XML. Once the XML is generated the XML file is ftp'd to a UNIX box. Because of the file size restrictions in our UNIX bix we decided not to transform the XML output into XML Attributes.
The attributes are assigned from an XSLT file and the raw XML file is transformed to a file which has attributes.
    My question is:
In the Oracle Database release 9.2 is there a better efficient way to genarate the final XML file with Attributes from the database side without using the XSLT. If yes, please give an example how to do this?
    Thank You

In general the SQL/XML publishing functions are the most efficient way..
DBMS_XMLQUERY is a legacy technology imlimented in Java. The main advantage is that it can be run outside the database in the mid-tier is required.
DBMS_XMLGEN is a re-implementation of DBMS_XMLQUERY in 'C' which runs inside the database. In most cases it should be much faster than DBMS_XMLQUERY. It provides some features that are still not availalble in the SQL/XML standard such as the ability to generate XML based on a cursor, and the ability to generate recursive output from a connect by query. It is hoped that future versions of the SQL/XML publishing functions will address these issues.
Both DBMS_XMLGEN and DBMS_XMLQUERY are somewhat limited in terms of generating complex XML documents with multiple levels of nesting.
The SQL/XML publishing functions are the preferred way of generating XML from relational data. THey provide the ability to generate extremely complex XML structures from relation data and provide full control over element / attributes names, levels of nested etc. Future development projects will focus on enhancing the performance and functionality of the SQL/XML publishing functions rather than the PL/SQL packages
In general if you can use SQL/XML publishing functions you should do so.
    Does this help....

  • What's The Best Way to Load a Replacement iPod Touch?

I just received a replacement iPod Touch 3G for my daughter. Her iTunes library for the Touch that we returned to Apple is on her MacBook Pro. What is the best way to load the new Touch? She plans on using the same name for it. Should I restore from a previous backup or just plug it in and let in sync? Do I need to set anything on iTunes for disk management?
    Thank you,
    Bruce

If she wants it like her old one the previous backup, if there is anything she wants to change though, now would be a perfect time to just resync it and start over. It really depends on what she wants.

  • What is a good way to load 80 million documents in DocumentDB?

I am having problems loading a large set of data.  We want to load 80 million documents.  We are trying to do testing for an IOT solution that will end up having a lot of data in it.  I followed the instructions to use a stored procedure to
do a bulk load provided by Ryan CrawCour on the Microsoft Site:
    https://code.msdn.microsoft.com/windowsazure/Azure-DocumentDB-NET-Code-6b3da8af
But it throws exceptions when we load 2,000 - 5,000 documents.  Our documents are only about 80 characters.
Error: One or more errors occurred., Message: Exception: Microsoft.Azure.Documen
    ts.RequestRateTooLargeException, message: {"Errors":["Request rate is large"]},
What is a good way to load large datasets?  ( Load backups, migrate data, ... )  Or is DocumentDB just a wrong choice when you have millions of rows to load?
    Thanks

    Hi,
I had been working on this from around one month and I am happy to say that my code works. Was able to upload around 0.5 million documents in 20 min.
The configuration was Document DB with S3 , I scaled out for 16 collection for sharding, I think you need to shard out more. This will depend on how much each document takes.
So the Calculation goes like if each document is lets say on an average 2Kb of Size and you have 80 million documents that will come out to be 160GB
That means you will need more than 16 collections to store as at Max 1 collection can have 10GB of Data. So to be on the safer side I would say lets go for 3 times the storage so 48 collections . If all of them are at S3 than you have 2500 RUs spread across
48 collections and I am sure if you do insertion now you will not get Request Rate too large exception.
I have come up with this code hopefully it will help you as well.

  • How do I import DVD to IMovie? What is the best way to import DVD to a Mac?

    Hi everyone!
I need some help, so here are my questions.
How do I import DVD to IMovie? What is the best way to import DVDs to a Mac?
I would like to keep the original quality from the DVD.
    Thx.

You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/mpegstreamclip.html
which is free, but you must also have the  Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
    which is a mere $20.
Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
    http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
    which costs $25.
For the benefit of others who may read this thread:
Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.

Hello, thank you for all these informations.
Right now my graphic card current Bios Version is 80.04.00.2F (P2004.0010). Is it the good one ?
I've found out yesterday evening about the GPT Drive, when I saw it on my laptop which works fine with UEFI fastboot mode.
For the moment the main drive on my desktop is MBR formated SSD.
Is it safe to clone the MBR SSD Drive to another GPT formated SSD Drive ?
In my Partition soft I saw that it can convert MBR Drives to GPT without data loss. Could this work ?

  • Most efficient way to load XML file data into tables

I have a complex XML file running into MBs. I want to load it's data into 7-8 tables.
    Which way will be better:
    1) Use SQL Loader to actually load directly into the 7-8 tables directly by modifying the control card.
Is this really possible and feasible? I am not even sure about it
    2) Load data as XML Type in a table and register it. Then extract from there to load into various tables.
Please help. I have to find the most efficient way of doing it.
    Regards,
    Sudhir

Yes it is possible to use SQL*Loader to parse and load XML, but that is not what it was designed for and so is not recommended. You also don't need to register a schema, just to load/store/parse XML in the DB either.
So where does that leave you?
    Some options
    {thread:id=410714} (see page 2)
    {thread:id=1090681}
    {thread:id=1070213}
Those talk some about storage options and reading in XML from disk and parsing XML. They should also give you options to consider. Without knowing more about your requirements for the effort, it is difficult to give specific advice. Maybe your 7-8 tables don't exist and so using Object Relational Storage for the XML would be the best solution as you can query/update tables that Oracle creates based off the schema associated to the XML. Maybe an External Table definition works better for reading the XML into the system because this process will happen just once. Maybe using WebDAV makes more sense for loading XML to be parsed (I don't have much experience with this, just know it is possible from what I've read on the forums). Also, your version makes a difference as you have different options available depending upon the version of Oracle.
Hope all that helps as a starter.

  • What is the best way to load and convert data from a flat file?

    Hi,
I want to load data from a flat file, convert dates, numbers and some fields with custom logic (e.g. 0,1 into N,Y) to the correct format.
The rows where all to_number, to_date and custom conversions succeed should go into table STG_OK. If some conversion fails (due to an illegal format in the flat file), those rows (where the conversion raises some exception) should go into table STG_ERR.
What is the best and easiest way to archive this?
    Thanks,
    Carsten.

    Hi,
thanks for your answers so far!
I gave them a thought and came up with two different alternatives:
    Alternative 1
I load the data from the flat file into a staging table using sqlldr. I convert the data to the target format using sqlldr expressions.
The columns of the staging table have the target format (date, number).
The rows that cannot be loaded go into a bad file. I manually load the data from the bad file (without any conversion) into the error table.
    Alternative 2
The columns of the staging table are all of type varchar2 regardless of the target format.
I define data rules for all columns that require a later conversion.
I load the data from the flat file into the staging table using external table or sqlldr without any data conversion.
The rows that cannot be loaded go automatically into the error table.
When I read the data from the staging table, I can safely convert it since it is already checked by the rules.
What I dislike in alternative 1 is that I manually have to create a second file and a second mapping (ok, I can automate this using OMB*Plus).
Further, I would prefer using expressions in the mapping for converting the data.
What I dislike in alternative 2 is that I have to create a data rule and a conversion expression and then keep the data rule and the conversion expression in sync (in case of changes of the file format).
I also would prefer to have the data in the staging table in the target format. Well, I might load it into a second staging table with columns having the target format. But that's another mapping and a lot of i/o.
As far as I know I need the data quality option for using data rules, is that true?
Is there another alternative without any of these drawbacks?
Otherwise I think I will go for alternative 1.
    Thanks,
    Carsten.

  • What's the best way to load balance multiple protocols on one vserver?

    Hi,
We have a CSM blade on a 6513, in bridge mode. I'm just wondering what is the best way to serve HTTP and HTTPS (or any two or more ports) from the same group of servers. As I see it, we have two options:
    1. Don't set a port on the vserver, so it is load balancing "any" or "tcp". This is easy but I want to be sure there isn't a downside to this, other than the obvious security issue.
    2. Create multiple vservers and point them at the same serverfarm. I tried this and I got some odd results with the health checks.
    Any ideas? Thanks a lot.

you listed the only 2 options available.
The advantage of solution #2 is that you can apply specific config for each protocol ie: for HTTP you can turn 'persistent rebalance' if needed.
If you want to use specific probes [not icmp], it is also a good practice to create a different serverfarm for each protocol.
Like this, if the HTTP service goes down but not the server, you can still have other protocols loadbalanced.
    Regards,
    Gilles.

  • What's the best way to automount DVD and networksharing?

    Hey Guys.
Just a Question - to hear if its possible to make it work ?
I have through time build a little MythTV setup on ArchLinux.
And - damn I'm happy with it.
The only remaining problem I've got now - is how to share the DVD on the network. Since I'm using powersaving frontends, I have no DVD for playing DVD's. And since I got kids and A LOT cartoons, I would be glad to make this works perfectly.
I've tried to make it work using NFS - I've discovered some lacking in the picture and sound when playing DVD's.
I've tried with samba, and got actually a happy solution, BUT there's a problem that I needing to make happend automaticly.
    1. Automount the DVD after inserting it into DVD-drive. Also umount the drive when pushing the buttom on the drive.
    2. I shalll now restart samba after inserting the dvd - Isn't it possible that the drive is dicovered automaticly after mounted in the directory: ??? allso when finished playing the DVD - I need to stop samba before I can umount the DVD - Is it possible to avoid stopping samba for umounting the DVD ?
    3. How is it possible to make this action automaticly when inserting a DVD or pushing a button on the frontend that starts it all using a shellscript or so?
Mostly becaurse I'm thinking about hidding the server in a special place and have a DVD shared from a external/internal device? So this action should happen automaticly after inserting the DVD - that its accessable on the network - and removed when pushing the button on the drive?
Let me here a little about the your experiences with this problem. I've tried the wiki about getting autofs to make it work - but here's my solution for now
    TIA
    P

The automount of the drive from fstab - yes - and have no problems on the frontends.
But when inserting a DVD - you'll need to mount -a to mount the see the contents of the dvd - (if this can automaticly be disvovered by fstab - please tell me - I cannot see it)
And again afters wards - when finishing the DVD - when pressing the buttom - eject - It's says the device is busy.
You'll need to stop samba - carse its samba that uses the device. After stopping samba - no problem with umounting the device.
Again . please guide me in the rigth way - to make this happen automaticly!

  • [SOLVED] What is the best way to load iptables/nftables on boot?

    Hi -
New arch user migrating from Ubuntu/debian.  I'm used to loading netfilter iptable rules using an /etc/network/interfaces file.  What is the best way to do this using netctl/systemd?
An RTFM of the wiki and a Google search didn't provide an answer, but maybe I'm just looking in the wrong places.
Last edited by pgoetz (2014-06-21 08:32:01)

Ah, OK -- got it.  I can just blindly enable the iptables.service, and systemd will make sure the interfaces are up before running the service.  How cool.  I'm still getting used to the luxury of not having to worry about stuff like this myself.  The only minor issue is it looks like I'll have to get the systemd nftables service out of AUR.

  • I want to load movies in to my iPad through itune in my pc that runs window XP. First of all I am not able to add the movies to the itune ,leave aside sync to iPad .can some one suggest what is the simplest way to load movies in my iPad.

I have plenty of DVD which I load in my laptop and watch the movies while travel, however I am not able to do that in my iPad .
I would appreciate some one guide me the simplest way of loading the movies in to my iPad. I tried the conventional procedure of loading/copying in to itune then sync to the iPad to load all movies in it, but failed to do the first step( not able to load /copy in itune) leave aside the sync to iPad next.
Do I need to sellout some 20 odd $ to buy a conversion software that would help?
Is it that Apple trying to make money by not making this simplest of thing possible by the user.( ref. windows, every thing is possible with little IQ of the user).
If it is so , I would stop many of my friends to restrain from buying a device like this by spending some 1000$   ,rather look at a good Droid that is catching up so well.

If you are the only user on your computer you probably don't have multiple user accounts set up and can disregard that.  If you are using iTunes 11 go to View>Show Sidebar.  Now see if your iPad appears under Devices on the left side when you connect it.  If it does, click on the name of your iPad on the left side and your iTunes sync settings options will appear in folders with tabbed headings to the right.
If it doesn't appear on the left side, follow the troubleshooting steps shown in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538.

  • What's the best way to load FieldPoint measurement data into PI System?

I am finding the best way to load data collected by NI Field Point (FP2220) into the PI system of our power plant.
I found pieces of information about FieldPoint OPC server in NI.com. Not sure if it comes with Field Point Hardware, sold by NI as a separate product or it is actually non-standard NI products. Anyway, I know that there exists a thing called FieldPoint OPC server.
The PI system I mentioned has a OPC client software called PI-OPC interface. It is able to communicate with standard OPC DA server. If that FieldPoint OPC server is a standard OPC DA server provide data collected by Field Point complying to OPC standard, than that's perfect.
Anyone familar with PI system and NI product, please help if the above is going to work or if there is a better way to put Fieldpoint data into PI.

    Hi Eric,
This information really helpful, thanks. Regarding to the NI OPC server for NI FieldPoint, I have the other query.
In my setup, there are two sets of FieldPoint located in two different locations on my ethernet network. They are going to be controlled by a single PC. If I am going to connect both my FieldPoint sets with OPC standard, how many NI OPC server for FieldPoint do I need to connect to? Are there two NI OPC servers each serves one FieldPoint set? Or there is only NI OPC server which serves both FieldPoint sets?
I am concerning about the number of NI OPC server instances running, because the number of OPC client license I need to purchase depends on how many OPC server I need to connect to. If one NI OPC server serves both my FieldPoint sets, I only need to buy one OPC client license; otherwise, I need to purchase two. In the future, I am going to have another two sets of FieldPoint sets, so the answer of my query determines how many OPC clients I need to purchase eventually - One or four. A huge price difference.
    Looking forward to your reply.

    Roger
