What's my document size?

My PS4 document size indicates 4/12 MB, yet in the finder, 21 MB.
Which one is accurate?  I am trying to condense stuff for disk burns.
Here's one that says 8/13 in PS4, but a whopping 41 MB in the finder !
Bridge says 41 also.
Much prefer be at 8 or 13.

As Wade has already commented the file size is the space it takes up on the disk or hard drive. By using compression you can change this size with certain formats. Jpeg has 12 levels of compression but as I'm sure you know is a lossy format. With Jpeg the lower the number the higher the compression (smaller file) but also more data loss.
Tiff can also be compressed. Tiff compression is lossless. PSDs have there own compression RLE I believe, this is set and can't be turned on or off.
As far as the sizes at the bottom of the window. If you control click you have many choices of information. for document size the left represents the printing size of the image—approximately the size of the saved, flattened file. The number on the right indicates the file’s approximate size, including layers and channels.
You can find this info and much more here http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Photoshop/11.0/WSfd1234e1c4b69f30ea53e41001031ab64-7508a.html in the CS4 help files.

  • Document sizes and jpeg compression / quality

In relation to Photoshop, in the status bar at the bottom it displays what it calls “document sizes”.  Would someone be able to clarify can this be used to determin the quality of a jpeg file ?
For example if I open up a jpeg with no compression (file size on disk is 4.57mb) it displays Doc:34.5M/34.5M however if I open the same file with compression set at 5 (file size on disk is 748kb) and ‘document size’ doesn’t change.  How does the document size relate to jpeg compression etc...?
    Thank you

Open a file, say a tiff or psd, zoom in close to the image, about 400% on a recognizable detail. Use the Save As... command, select JPEG, and click Save.
When  you get to the dialog box, run the Quality slider to 0 and observe what happens to the pixels. It's like they are clumped together in large blocks.
That's how it saves on disk space when it is written back to the file.
477k/477k is the uncompressed size/size in ram and 31.5k is the saved to file compressed size caused by clumping all those pixels together. Of course you trash the file that way,but that's where compression saves space. Not by reducing the pixel count, but by consolidating them.
My point is is that you adjust that slider by eye and from there decide what optimal quality number is worth the space saved.
With broadband connections and terabyte drives, I would not see any point to less than 12 quality compression these days.

  • What is the maximum size limit for a KM document to be uploaded?

    Hi,
    1.  I have a requirement, wherein the user wants to upload a document which is more than 448MB in KM.
I am not sure what is the maximum limit that standard SAP provides by default, which I can advice the user at the first place.
    2. what if we want to increase the max limit of the size?Where do we do that, can you suggest me the path for the same?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
    CM Repository in DB Mode:
If there is a large number of write requests in your CM usage scenario, set up the CM repository in database mode. Since all documents are stored in the database, this avoids unintentional
    external manipulation of the data.
    CM Repository in FSDB Mode:
In this mode, the file system is predominant. If files are removed from or added to the file system, the database is updated automatically.
If you mainly have read requests, choose a mode in which content is stored in the file system. If this is the case, make sure that access to the relevant part of the file system is denied or
    restricted to other applications.
What is the maximum size of the document that we can upload in a CM (DB) and CM (FSDB) without compromising the performance ?
There are the following restrictions for the databases used:
    ·  Maximum number of resources (folders, documents) in a repository instance
FSDB: No restriction (possibly limited by file system restrictions)
       DBFS and DB: 2,147,483,648
    ·  Maximum size of an individual resource:
FSDB: No restriction (possibly limited by file system restrictions)
DBFS: 8 exabytes (MS SQL Server 2000), 2 GB (Oracle)
       DB: 2 GB
Maximum length of large property values (string type):2,147,583,647 byte
What is the impact on the performance of Knowledge Management Platform and on Portal Platform when there are large number of documents that are in sizes somewhere from 100 MB to 500 MB or more.
The performance of the KM and Portal platform is dependent on the type of activity the user is trying to perform. That is a heavy number of retrievals of the large documents stored in the repository for
read/write mode decreases the performance of the patform. Searching and indexing in the documents will also take a propertionate amount of time.
    For details, please refer to,
http://help.sap.com, Goto "KM Platform" and then,
Knowledge Management Platform   > Administration Guide

Technically speaking the VM has a restriction according to plattform.  W2k is somewhere around 1,2G and Solaris, I believe, 4G.
Say for instance I was on a W2k box I allotted 500+ for my J2EE Engine that would leave me with the possiblity to upload close to 600mb documents max.
See if the attached documents (610134, 634689, 552522) can provide you some guidance for setting your VM to meet your needs.

  • What value does CROP have in editor if you cannot define output document size and document resolution

Cannot define document size in EDITOR or output resolution. Document can only be defined as RATIO and output is fixed at 300. This problem does not allow you to edit in EDITOR then crop to a specific size so you don't know what the x,y dimension will be once opened in elements. My images are 36x54 at 72 which are 3:4 and can be resized to 4x6 8x12 and so on. Once document is in elements you cannot resize.....either for print or screen to these values without doing another crop or maybe I want something larger than the given crop.

I don't comprehend this at all.
On the crop tool's option bar, there should be a drop-down where one can get away from the default crop preset options to "Custom." The replacement values can be entered in inches, and the resolution can be changed to suit as well. Just highlight what you see, and type in new value for px/in.

  • Document size in quick look

    Hi Community,
I installed a new Mac running Snow Leopard and now I have a small document size in quick look. I can change the size by drag and drop the lower right corner but a) the next document is in the same small size and b) when I reopen a document in quick look I adjusted the size before, it will be displayed also in the small size again. In other words the quick look doesn't remember the custom size setting.
Is there anywhere in the system a way to change the settings of quick look?
    Thx & Bye Tom

Yes, I have the same issue, text is tiny on my large screen when previewing word or other text documents. The implementation of Quicklook for text could be improved. For images it obviously works great but for text, I would define a "quick look" as a quick scan of the contents, not just the layout, because its text. When you are editing HTML or looking at CVs a lot, you end up needing to read a little to see what the item actually is, as a lot of layouts are the same for these type of documents.

  • How to change Default document size for CC Library Graphics (InDesign)

    Good morning --
I have just discovered the amazing uses of the CC Library setup in InDesign and would love to be able to use it as a tool to collaborate template galleries amongst coworkers.
I work in an industry that offers many different templates for our Marketing pieces available to the sales team. What we have in place right now is about 50+ different templates in their own packaged files. Now, this isn't all that difficult to maneuver around, but the CC Library has made it so I can "drag and drop" templates into place. This drag & drop feature is easy enough for me to grasp, and with the proper training it should be with the rest of the team (should being the keyword). However, in some cases if you double-click on Library graphic it opens the file in it's own editable file with a custom document size of 8.5x11 Portrait (which I imagine to be the internal InDesign preset).
My questions therefore are when I double click on the library "Graphics" can the document size be anything other than 8.5x11? Can each Graphic have it's own document preset?
    - If I open a file that is set for landscape, all of the "Graphic" falls off of the spread.
    - Some "eblasts" are much longer than 8.5x11 (sometimes as much as 8.5x20), thus knocking some of the "Graphics" into that weird space area.
Please let me know if I am not being a clear enough.
    Thank you!
    Steve

@Steve – you are totally clear what you are doing and what you like to do.
But I fear an automatic setting that is creating the page size according to an asset's size does not exist right now.
I can change the size of a new document beforehand, if no document is open and create a new size in the document's properties dialog with the keyboard shortcut alt + cmd + p (in my German InDesign on Mac OSX 10.7.5). But you have to know in advance what size that should be.
Example: If I chose A3 instead of A4 (my default) when no document is open and double click an asset in a CC Library the asset will be placed in a one page document sized A3.

  • How to find out the Pixel Dimensions and Document Size of placed images?

Is it possible to find out the placed image details like Pixel Dimensions(Width,Height) Document Size(Width,Height) in illustrator through scripting. Kindly advice me with some examples.

I hope the snippet therein will get you started.
But after all, when you place an image via pi=layer.placedItems.add() it should pop in with its default dimensions, so that you have pi.height and pi.width ready.
Is this what you are aiming at?

from the FAQs on Staples website:
I have a file that I know is a PDF, but the website claims it is not in a PDF format. What should I do?
Check to see that the file has the .PDF extension. Also, check that the filename does not have any special characters such as an ampersand (“&”).
Regarding your measurements set to centimeters rather than inches; is it just in MS Word?
Or does it occur in all other applications.
    Check your Work preferences first:
If it is happening in all your applications, check your Mac OS System Preferences.

  • Copy & Paste From Illustrator to Photoshop not matching document size

I just recently reformated my computer and I've been having an issue with copy and paste from Illustrator to Photoshop. Before I could copy a 2"x2" vector box from Illustrator into photoshop making a new document and the size and resolution would match. That is the new document would say 2"x2" at 300 ppi in photoshop and the preset would read "clipboard". I would then hit ok and paste and it would match perfectly. Now since I've reformated, photoshop always creates a new document with the wrong size regardless of the settings I enter in Illustrator or photoshop. I have document raster and effects set at 300 ppi in Illustrator and I have the new document set at 300 in photoshop, but it always transfers the 2"x2" box as some other size no matter what resolution I change it too. Again this used to work before so I'm assuming there is some setting I forgot about. Does anyone know? The main issue is the clipboard preset is not matching the document size, its almost as if Illustartor is telling photoshop it's a different resolution when it's not. Copying to 72 ppi seems to have no issue, which makes me think Illustrator just isn't sending it out at 300 ppi, but I don't know why as I have the document set at 300 ppi.

Have you found an answer that wasn't posted here yet? I have the same issue.

  • Changing ppi changes pixel dimensions but not document size?

I have an image that is W=4.375 H=6.124 at 355 ppi the pixel dimensions area under Img > Image Size indicates it is W=1553 px H=2174
When I change the resolution to 72 px it is only changing the pixel dimensions and not the document size. I'm confuesed.
    1. What is the difference between pixel dimensions and document size?
    2. Is the document the same physical size regardless if I make it 200 ppi, 150 ppi or 72?
    Thanks.

Let me see if I understand all of this:
    - If I change the resolution the print dimension will stay the same, though what is it actually doing to the image if I increase the resolution, though it still is the same print dimension? I am guessing you can not just add pixels to a given size image and expect it to print better.
    - If I change the dimensions, the resolution will change because there will be either more pixels for a smaller area or fewer pixels for a larger area, depending on how I size it.
    Thanks.

  • Resize a layer to a percentage of the document size and position in corner

I need to create a script that places a logo in the corner of my main document but i need the logo to be constrained to a percentage of the document size. my logos needs to live in the bottom right corner of my images and be no larger than 28 percent height and no larger than 60 percent of the width of the document. i need it to constrain proportions of the original file so if the logo is square it will remain square, or if it is more rectangular it will maintain its rectangular shape.  Heres what i've come up with so far, i am pretty inept at scripting so if disregarding my current script is more helpful than building upon it please ignore mine:
    if ( documents.length > 0 )

        app.displayDialogs = DialogModes.ERROR;
        var originalRulerUnits = preferences.rulerUnits;

  • Document Size v Paper Size

I am using Acrobat Pro 8 with a HP 3050 all in one. I am attempting to print two forms I created from scanned images (that have form fields) that are irregular sizes. I am only printing the form fields and not the scanned image, so my print setting is set to "form fields only".  However, my form fields are not aligning with the documents I am feeding through the printer and I've noticed that there is a "document" size and "paper" size of two different sizes in the printer dialog box and have no idea why.
For example, at the bottom right of the print dialog box, the paper size says 7.0" x 3.4" (the correct/actual size) but the document size is saying 7.5 x 3.9 (not sure where this size is coming from). When I use the rulers to measure it in Acrobat, it says 7.0" x 3.4", yet when I print it out, the text is out of alignment and treating the document as if it is 7.5 x 3.9. The same thing happens with another document that I'm attemping to do the same thing with.  In the print dialog box, the document size is saying 5.5" x 3.1" and the paper size is saying 5.8 x 3.9.
Is there any way to over ride or change this? I suspect it's somehow due to the HP print driver.  If there's an alternative to accomplish what I'm doing, I'm open to any suggestions. I am using preprinted forms that I'd like to have fed in the printer. I don't necessarily want to re-create them in InDesign or Illustrator (I originally scanned the forms using Acrobat).
    Thank you.

@Bill@VT - Sorry, that didn't work with either form I'm using. It is not allowing me to enter a custom size. It is
defaulting to a 8x13 (custom) size.

  • Export to PDF ignores document size settings?

I have several documents in InDesign CS4 and when I export them to PDF the document size changes.
I have set all the following options to A4 (210x297mm):
    In Indesign: File->Document Settings
    In Windows->Printer settings->Adobe PDF->Paper Size
After exporting and opening in Reader 9 the document size has changed to 210 x 303.3mm
This then requires a tweak before the first print run.
I should be able to just export to production and they can print from the PDF without checking the settings!

Sometimes also clipboard isnt even selectable it wants to use a specific document size.
The only way I can fix it is close down Ai and PS, launch Ai and PS, copy in Ai then in PS press Ctrl N for New, choosing clipboard, Ctrl V to paste enter to confirm, then it seems happy and I can then carry on using my Actions or manually pasting to my hearts content.
My question is what is causing it to have this quirk, how can I avoid it if possible or is there no avoiding it?
