What's my iMac worth?

Hey, hopefully i'm not breaking any rules posing this type of message
I'm looking at buying a new iMac and want to sell my current one but not sure what to ask for it. Its 20" Intel-based White iMac, Dual Core 2.17ghz, 2gb RAM, 128mb ATI graphics card. (Just under 2.5yrs old)
Anyone got any thoughts on what I should ask for it?
I'm in Australia so $AUD is preferable. I was thing $600 or $700??

You can search eBay for completed auctions of similar models.
I'd say you could probably get more. Gainsaver sells that model for about $700
[Same model at Gainsaver.com|http://www.gainsaver.com/Catalog/Detail.aspx?&CCode=1015^Apple&CC ode=1024^iMacs&PageIndex=0&PageMax=40&cICode=62154]
but you have to add a lot of options to make it spec'ed like your iMac, although you will probably not get as much as a vendor (for the same specs) who provides a limited warranty. If it's in good shape, you may find buyers who desire it because it is the last iMac that does not have the glass-covered display (glossy versus matte), and it is the first with Core 2 Duo (64-bit), so it will be well-supported with Snow Leopard once that gets released in a few weeks.

  • HT1529 what is my iMac DNS IP address

What is my iMac DNS IP Address.  I (think) I need it to get my apple TV to work.  I had it working yesterday and today it says NO.  (I did nothing different, except turned it on!!)  It doesn't recognise that I have authorised my iTunes account (several times).

You can determine your Mac's IP address by opening Sytem Preferences, selecting Network and then selecting the interface you are using to connect to your home network (either Ethernet or WiFi). As for its DNS IP address, the Mac will not have its own DNS address. This will typically be the IP address of the wireless router, if WiFi is being used, or your ISP.
For your Apple TV to see the Mac, this will use Bonjour to locate the Mac on the local network. So the important thing is that your Mac and the Apple TV are set to the same IP subnet. This is usually the first three sets of numbers in your IP address, while the last number is known as the network address. For example, a Mac with an IP address of 10.0.1.4 has an IP subnet of 10.0.1 and a network address of 4. For other devices using Bonjour to communicate with this Mac, they also need an IP subnet of 10.0.1 but a different network address to 4.
The other important IP address setting is the router address, aka gateway. For all devices to communicate with each other on a local network, they must have the same router address, which is the IP address of the wireless router or Ethernet switch.
Now I don't have an Apple TV so I don't know the network settings menu but I would expect that it is set to DHCP, meaning that it is relying on the router to provide it with an IP address. The theory would then go that you would also set the Mac to DHCP so that the router can allocate a dedicated IP address to the Mac and Apple TV and any other device on your network. If any device is set to manual assignment then this could be your issue. Are you able to confirm what network settings the Mac and Apple TV are using and post back here?

  • What is my iBook worth?

I have an ibook g4 purchased in late 2005. I am getting ready to sell it to upgrade to a new macbook pro and was curious what the computer is worth in the ibook are these specs: 1.42 ghz, 512mb ram, 60 gig hard drive, cd-r, cd-rw, dvd-r drive. thanks for any help also email if interested looking to put the computer on ebay or Craig's list

Low End Mac had lists of dealers selling used Macs. You might want to check some of these dealers and also eBay to get a feel of what you might get. These dealers test the units and some offer a 30-day warranty, so you might not get quite what they do.

  • How do I tell what year my iMac is?

How do I tell what year my iMac is? I wish to upgrade a 24" iMac to Mavericks. If I cannot upgrade without updating hardware I wish to know what hardware I need to best upgrade my iMac (short of buying a new iMac).

I wish to know what hardware I need to best upgrade my iMac (short of buying a new iMac).
There is no hardware you can upgrade on the iMac (except RAM). You should add as much RAM as your machine will take.

Hold Option then Apple menu > System Information.
Select Hardware on the left sidebar and it will show you which Mac you have.

  • What's my Imac 4,1 worth ?

Is there a way I can find out how much I could sell my Imac 4,1 for?
    Imac 17"
    Intel Core Duo
    Processor Speed: 1.83 ghz
    2mb L2 Cache
    Memory: 512 mb
    160gb
Operating system: Mac OS X 10.4.11
I've barely used it, and is in full (pretty much as new) condition.
I'm not sure what other details (if any) are required to find out the value of this.

Thanks, I did have a look around the web including ebay but seemed to only come across faulty ones which didn't really give me much indication of price.
    Thanks anyway

  • What os for iMac

I have an iMac now with no system on board so I cant tell you its type via profiler, but think it is the first model flat screen 15 inch with cd not dvd drive. It has original memory and a 256 stick extra
I dont think its worth buying leapord for it, what would be best and cheapest? Tiger or panther? I understand that 10.2 simply wont work at all.
    n

Are you saying that the iMac specific 10.2 will install and run but the retail won't? How can this be? The retail is of course 10.2 not 10.2.3 but surely a retail disk should install on any machine otherwise why would someone buy it to, say, upgrade their 10.1 iMac to to 10.2?
To upgrade their 10.1 iMac to 10.2 it works.
To downgrade from 10.2.3 to 10.2 it doesn't work.
To install the same OS from a retail disc instead of original set of discs, even with a higher version like 10.2.7, doesn't work.
Actually I may be wrong but you cant use system profiler on the laptop to read the imac when its in target mode as the OS10.2 installer disk only knows the machine it has booted on, it regards the iMac as simply an external drive. I am fairly certain that the iMac is not a superdrive one as i seem to recall the vendor saying so.
You're correct. Only if you can *duplicate this laptop's Panther or Tiger onto your iMac*, then unplug laptop and reboot from iMac, you can use System Profiler.
I'm not sure though, whether it's possible to SuperDuper-duplicate your laptop volume onto your iMac?
    http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/SuperDuperDescription.html
your laptop has to be a G4 model too I guess (no Intel).
Thanks for your help. I am loathe to buy a tiger CD unless I am fairly sure it will install and the iMac's current failure to boot from 10.2 is not down to some hardware failure. If I can be fairly certain that 10.2 retail is the problem I will try to buy Tiger from somewhere.
    You're correct again.
It is of course possible that your retail Jaguar disc should be perfectly able to boot and install on this iMac
(if it's one of these first G4 iMacs that came with 10.1.x),
but that a hardware fault causes it to fail.
Why you would buy this retail set of Tiger CDs:
well, also if they were cheap enough, or if you were to find another nice G4 iMac in a store somewhere, thinking particularly of a 1.25 GHz USB 2.0 model, the last ones which came with Panther?

  • Dead screen on iMac -- worth reparing?

A friend gave our family an iMac 2.16 core 2 duo (model A1207). "Everything works fine, except the screen has (apparently) died." Is this worth paying to fix? Fair assumption that the computer has otherwise been well taken care of.

    EricB336 wrote:
Yeah, this is the answer I keep coming back to. I have found a site that sells a new LCD screen for $90, but that doesn't mention labor (trying to fix might be over my head) nor the possibility that it's not the screen that needs fixed.
    (Site: http://www.powerbookmedic.com/20-Intel-iMac-LCD-p-22191.html)
Does it make any sense to view the iMac through an external monitor?
Assuming the only thing wrong is the display in theory you could use an external display, getting it to work without seeing the system preferences would be a real trick though. A new display for one of those will cost hundreds, you can look for one on ebay if you want to bother but as mentioning throwing any money at an 8 year old computer simply does not make much sense.
Apple has a recycling program and even on that the thing has zero value.

But many consider those prices high...

I'm not trying to sell it. Delta Airlines crushed it. I would understand that the plane might sway and might hit the computer, I understand that it might be thrown into the plane, I understand that it might be tossed into the the cart and all that. What I don't understand is how does a well packaged, 60lb, stable-cube-of-a-box with fragile stickers gets thrown off and ran over with the luggage transport? I would think it's their responsibility at that point. Carelessness.
Just need to know how much it's worth. Stripped down with 1GB, no Airport, and no 300GB HD, originally sold for $2,884 back then.
    I estimated $2,500 today.
    What do you think?
Any help would help so so much. Thank you all!

I took in a lot of consideration of what this whole thing caused me to do.
I didn't add that that as soon as I heard it was crushed, me and my partner wasted no time to find a replacement computer for the job we were working on. We ended up buying a Mac Pro and finished the After Effects job using a 1GB stick of RAM (which I dreaded throughout the whole project).
I went ahead and sent a letter to Delta Corporate and asked for about $4,500 in damages and replacement parts. I need two new drives (the work in there is priceless, it has years of design work) and other parts in which costs me more money to replace.
There is a typed up story if anyone wants to take a gander at. It's at http://www.orangeglue.com/delta - I made it with iWeb 08' (it came with the Mac Pro, I wanted to see what the hype was about and man, Apple adds a bunch of code to make a simple site like that function, but it's understood since it's a WYSIWYG) I posted Pictures as well.
Anyways, I'm still working with a 1GB chip and man it *****. I can't wait any longer for the response from Delta, so I'm deciding to buy new RAM now but am having difficulty. I added a new thread for that http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1111785 - With Delta, I'm hoping it get's reimbursed.
    Thanks everyone for your responses!
I'll keep this thread up to let you know on Final Details on what went on with my G5 and the Corporate People of Delta and how they treated this situation.
