The BEA User Group, Skills Matter and SolarMetric are pleased to invite you to a free seminar on EJB 3 Persistence, which will take place in London on October 6th and is organised by the BEA User Group.
EJB 3 expert group member and Bitter EJB author Patrick Linskey will introduce the audience to the EJB 3 Persistence specification.
EJB 3 expert group member and Bitter EJB author Patrick Linskey will introduce the audience to the EJB 3 Persistence specification. Patrick will provide background on where EJB 3 Persistence came from and how it meets the goal of making EJB simpler. Patrick will then go through the details of the EJB 3 persistence specification with lots of code examples.
By the end of the session, the audience should have a firm grasp on the basics of EJB 3 persistence including annotations for representing mappings and EJB QL, the benefits of using a POJO persistence model like EJB 3, and how to use EJB3 Persistence both when deploying to an appserver and in a J2SE application.

  • After Effects CC (12.1): what's new in this update due to be released October 2013

Steve Forde announces After Effects CC (12.1), coming in October:  http://adobe.ly/AE_CC_12dot1_announcement
    Details are here: http://adobe.ly/AE_CC_12dot1_details

All of this is cool, which one revs me up the most?
Probably the Detail-preserving Upscale effect, echoing the amazing new upscaling ability of the current Photoshop. I wind up mixing in all kind of footage from who knows where, attached who knows how to who knows what, and it will be great to be able to use it more readily even if a full "standard" size down from the project.

  • New to EJB (Server Help Needed)

I am new to EJB and I'm learning through a few books and online tutorials. The only problem is that when I try to use them, I get errors. I've done some researching and I think it has to do with my server setup. Here is what I have running and successfully configured:
    Apache Web Server
    Tomcat Container
    Java 2 SDK 1.4.0_01
    Java XML Pack (Winter 2002)
I have Sun Studio 4 installed and I think that it installs J2EE but I'm not sure. Can someone help me understand where to go next? What do I have to install/configure to get the EJBs to work? Thanks, Jeremy

    Hello,
J2EE is roughly about two things: Web applications beeing build out of Servlets, Jsp and HTML pages and a server-side component modell to deploy business logic in EJBs.
Now for the Web part (generating dynamic HTML content etc.) you have what you need. Tomcat is doing just find. To deploy EJBs, you need an application server which has an EJB container. I don't know the Studio 4 but my understanding is that it is an IDE helping you to develop software, not an application server. You have to install such an appserver.
My recommendation: go and download BEAs Weblogic 7.0 (www.beasys.com).This is a commercial product but it comes with a 30 day trial license. BEA provides a rather good online docu. Play with this appserver and deploy some EJBs.
Alternatively there is also a free appserver: JBoss (www.jboss.org) but I have never used it. Yet, they have also online docu and forums to help you through.
    good luck,
    einar

  • What's New in Audition 3.0?

Don't have time now to get into how they help, but I would just like to say that there is MUCH improvment in Audition 3.0...I'd like to say this because I've heard lots of grumbling on other forums about 3.0 not being an upgrade at all over the previous versions 1.5 or 2.0, this is completely false, for me in particular the improvement in MT View (editing: collectively trimming, duplicate entire track and fading improvements) are indispensable.
and most people don't even mention any improvement aside from spectral view (which is pretty big in itself, isn't it?) spot healing etc...which I haven't even used yet.
I just want to say, they definetly made some good improvements, while they may not be overwhelming to some they are entirely useful in my situation and I think for most people they would come to see they are definite improvements if they used it long enough.
    Getting started /      New features
    What’s new
    Record and mix
Adobe Audition 3.0 is a powerful tracking and mixing application. Mix faster with new automatic crossfades, clip fade handles, and automation-editing improvements. Take full advantage of the latest hardware with multicore processor support and an optimized mixing engine.

Simply overlap clips to crossfade them, and adjust fade curves with on-clip handles. (See Fade or crossfade clips in a track.)
    Improved multitrack editing
Efficiently edit sessions with these key enhancements:
Collectively trim and fade grouped clips. (See Grouping clips.)
Ripple-delete ranges of clips, instantly removing time gaps. (See Trimming and extending clips.)
Adjust selected ranges of automation points. (See Edit automation envelopes.)
Duplicate the contents of entire tracks, including clips, effects, and automation. (See Duplicate a track.)
Simultaneously view all input and output levels to comprehensively monitor a mix. (See Monitor levels.)
    XML session support
Save sessions to XML format and other shared standards for multitrack applications. (See Save multitrack sessions.)
Mix down directly to Edit View
Quickly output a session directly to Edit View, without first exporting a file. (See Create a single audio clip from multiple clips.)
    Video previews for surround mixes
Watch a preview in the Video panel while adjusting mixes in the Surround Encoder. (See Previewing video.)
    Create and arrange
Adobe Audition 3.0 offers powerful and extensive looping capabilities, as well as support for VST instruments, making it easy to create and arrange great-sounding music. Improved processing, including the high-quality Radius time-stretching engine from iZotope and numerous new effects, gives you infinite creative options.
    MIDI tracks and piano-roll editor
Import, record, and edit MIDI, and output it through VST instruments or hardware synthesizers. (See Composing with MIDI.)
    New effects
Explore creative sonic possibilities with Convolution Reverb, Analog Delay, Guitar Suite, and other new effects. (See Effects reference.)
    Radius time-stretching from iZotope
Access industry-standard algorithms in the updated Stretch effect, as well as the File Info and Audio Clip Looping dialog boxes.
    Bitmap audio images
Export spectral graphs for detailed editing in an image-editor like Adobe Photoshop®. Or, import visually-oriented graphics as source material for experimental sound designs. (See Spectral Bitmap Image (.bmp) and Import a bitmap image as audio.)
    Improved CD ripping
Automatically import track information from your favorite CD database. (See Extract CD tracks with the Extract Audio From CD command.)
    Enhanced file sorting
Sort files by track number, or by the date they were opened or created. (See Change how files appear in the Files panel.)
    Customizable workspaces
Tint panels and dialog boxes to suit your working style. Add favorite commands to the shortcut bar. (See Change interface brightness or tint and Display the shortcut bar.)
    Edit and master
Adobe Audition 3.0 includes a full set of editing, restoration, and mastering tools that give you unprecedented flexibility and control. Comprehensive waveform-editing tools combined with innovative spectral frequency brushes let you edit with power and precision. The new Mastering effect, phase correction tools, and Top/Tail view make Adobe Audition 3.0 the ideal audio editing and mastering environment.
    Spot Healing Brush
Quickly brush over artifacts to seamlessly remove them. (See Select artifacts and repair them automatically.)
    Effects Paintbrush
Create free-form selections, and layer brush strokes to determine the intensity of effects. (See Select spectral ranges.)
    Marquee pan and phase selections
Process discrete stereo information such as center-panned vocals in Spectral Pan Display or out-of-phase audio in Spectral Phase Display. (See Select spectral ranges.)
    Play spectral selections
Play back selected frequency, pan, and phase ranges to precisely restore and process audio. (See Play audio linearly.)
    On-clip fade and gain controls
Visually adjust selections or entire files. (See Visually fading and changing amplitude.)
    Top/Tail View
Fine-tune loop transitions by simultaneously viewing the beginning and end of files. (See View the top and tail of an audio file.)
    Mastering effect
Optimize audio for maximum impact with a series of professional processors. (See Mastering effect.)
    Adaptive noise reduction
Quickly correct a wide range of variable broadband noise. (See Adaptive Noise Reduction effect.)
    Graphic Panner
Visually adjust the stereo field to enhance spatial perception. (See Graphic Panner effect.)
    Play lists
Organize and play marker ranges for live performance and broadcast. (See Creating play lists.)
    Efficient file opening and saving
Specify default formats for Open and Save As dialog boxes, and quickly save groups of files to one format. (See System preferences and Save a group of audio files to one format.)

ah guh suk yuh dutty sket mudda bumbohole battybway!
It's a very helpful post because there is people who come to this forum when trying to decide to what recording software too purchase, and there's also people all over the internet who say that Audition is not better then Pro-Tools and more amateurish when in many regards it is more professional and has a better interface and GUI, especially if you're not doing too many tracks (less then 16 or perhaps more on a high end system). It's multi-track is easy and stays out of your way, has great automation, and some updated editing capabilities and has an excellent mbc that pro-tools does not have (maybe not excellent but very good)..and I believe pro-tools is a cpu hog doing certain things just like Audition is.
So people come to this site and I'm going to tell them the truth that it has been added to nicely since Adobe bought it and hopefully if people buy it will have another update to make the multi-track even better.  It has a few bugs and downsides but so does pro-tools, I think the upsides are greater then pro-tools.
The only downsides are the midi is a bit lacking compared to other programs which have been in the midi-game longer, and that it does use alot of cpu for certain efx, and the multi-track is better in some ways but not as advanced in others in terms of sequencing and arranging, it could improve in that area, loops and stretching loops to match each other then being able to record how you bring the loops in and out in a sequence like ableton but in it's own way then it would rule the world forever.

  • What's with the non-existant free trial download for Photoshop?

What's with the non-existant free trial download for Photoshop?  You click on "Download free trial" and it takes you to a page that takes you to a forum… nothing happens.  I've done this about 6 times on two browsers.  Of course, there's no help from Adobe, so I'm trying this forum.  Thanks!

Thanks very much for a prompt reply!  Much appreciated. Unfortunately, that's exactly the page I was on. And I used both Firefox and Safari and got the same page, with the same nothing...
As this forum doesn't allow attachments, I'll cut and paste the page here (there's not much):
    Keep learning
Whether you're new or a pro, we're always making Photoshop better.
    Learn more with these tutorials.
    Get support
Have any questions? Visit the Learn & Support area for help.
That's all that's on the page.  No buttons, URLs, menus… nothing.  And just to confirm, the URL  is as you gave: https://creative.adobe.com/products/download/photoshop
    Something's fishy...

  • What's new in version 7?

Version 7 is less an overhaul of version 4 than it is a refinement of it. The interface itself is virtually unchanged, although its task-directed system of tabs and buttons is even more intuitive. Themes, title templates and DVD and BluRay templates also look better than ever.
(By the way, just as an FYI, there were no versions 5 or 6 of Premiere Elements. It's just that Premiere Elements is being increasingly bundled with Photoshop Elements, which was leading it by a few versions. Rather than have different versions of each in the bundle, Adobe chose simply to market them as an "Elements suite", version 7.)
Several new features are worth noting:
The ability download and edit video from AVCHD camcorders
A more full-featured Organizer, featuring tools, including SmartDetect, for adding tags and other metadata to media files
InstantMovie tool for interfacing with Movie Themes
The Timeline and Sceneline have been slightly redesigned to include easier access to some of the programs power tools for mixing audio, detecting beats in music and controlling playback speed of clips
Integrated SmartSound Quicktracks, for creating custom music tracks based on the criteria (length, style, etc.) you provide
Videomerge, a new tool that makes applying chroma key effects virtually automatic
Live links to Photoshop.com, a site for displaying your photos and video as well as for accessing additional effects, templates and transitions for Premiere Elements
Live links to the Inspiration Browser, a site which offers free tips and tutorials for more effectively using the program
For a more detailed discussion of these new features as well as illustrations of the new interface, see my article for http://www.muvipix.com, "What's New in Premiere Elements 7":
    http://muvipix.com/learning/learning_pdf.php?preview=WhatsNewIn7

I would like to read your article, but it requires downloading and installing a 41MB file, Adobe Acrobat Reader? I use Foxit, and that is the first time I haven't been able to view anything requiring Adobe Reader or it's plug in for Mozilla. Any ideas?
    Thanks

  • So what's new in iTunes 10?

Besides the obvious... it would be nice if Apple made a complete list of changes to the program available. I can't even count the number of times I'd be doing something in iTunes only to discover a new option/tab/etc... that probably existed 5 updates ago.
I am marking this for a question for the sake of someone maybe telling me some new things, but feel free to discuss what you think of the new version thus far, because that is kind of what I'm going for here...
I have a long list of minor complaints about itunes, but the only relevant complaint I have with itunes 10 is the new color scheme, eg: there isn't one.

I'm aware of that page, but there is often hundreds of other additions that are never mentioned there, or anywhere on the site at all... for example, all the smart playlists additions in (not so) recent versions were never mentioned there, nor (I think) were the addition of skip counts. • What's new in MDS 2014

    Hi ALL !
    What's new in MDS 2014 ?
    from Moscow with money

    Hi,
I've spent a significant amount of time looking to answer this question for you. My conclusion is there is not a significant amount of difference between SQL 2012 and SQL 2014 surrounding Master Data Services.
The fact that that the following free publication does not mention MDS changes is evidence of this; -
    Introducing Microsoft SQL Server 2014
Please also look at further links; -
What's New in SQL Server 2014
Important New Features in SQL Server 2014
Where was also a very significant change between MDS 2008 R2 and MDS 2012.
    I hope this helps,
    Kind Regards,
    Kieran.
