What's New in Photoshop CS17?

Would you believe...?
Adobe to Skip CS7, Go Right to CS17 Instead

Oh I do agree. Version numbering/naming has gotten quite confusing.
Throw in Photoshop Elements users, who hit here by mistake, and just state "Photoshop 11," when asking a question.
Similar confusion happened back at Premiere Elements 4.0, which matched up to Photoshop Elements 6.0. Adobe fixed that, by moving PrE up to PrE 7.0, along with PSE 7.0. Still, we see questions about PrE 5 and 6, which never existed.
Going way back, when Adobe took Premiere (no Elements, or Pro), from version 6.5 to Pr 7.0. Well, at the same time, they added the term "Pro," and also officially took what had just been released as Premiere 7.0, and Premiere Pro 7.0, and renamed it Premiere Pro 1.0. Other than boxes, and the printing on most of the paperwork, those three versions were all basically the same version of Premiere. Talk about confusing. [Even many later Premiere staff were unaware of that Premiere Pro 7.0, until we found photographs of the box and manual.]
At least the CS 6 versions of almost everything, help, but then we still see that the updates are 13.x.x, and some refer to PS CS 6 as PS 13. Maybe we DO need to just go to CS 17... ?

Noel, I think the comment referred to my criticism of Chris ‘YE HAH! Orwig’, but surely the presentation is a highly important element of video tutorials, just as it is with Photoshop books — that’s why Scott Kelby is so successful.  His books make you smile or laugh out loud on every page, which means you keep on reading and learning. Scott is also a master of bringing together tips and ideas from his ‘Team’ and making them into a highly polished presentation.  Chris Orwig, on the other hand, is the presentation equivalent of fingernails scraped on a blackboard.
I’ve written to Lynda.com with my concerns regarding the extreme overuse of phrases like “I’m gonna go right ahead” in general, and Chris Orwig specifically.  I have also emailed people like Nigel French (Design and Type titles using Photoshop) and Chad Perkins (Premiere Pro) thanking them for their obvious enthusiasm and the quality of their Lynda.com titles.  I got nice replies from both of them, but nothing from Lynda.com.
You might argue that CO is also enthusiastic about Photoshop, but while his mouth speaks the words, his eyes don’t back them up. Compare Chris Orwig to Deke McCelland, and the wonderful Russell Brown.  The latter two are so genuine, and Russell delightfully eccentric. And both DM and RB are light years ahead of CO regards their knowledge of Photoshop.
Of course it is far from easy to present video tutorials, as Doug says above.  I can still remember being forced in front of the camera while doing media studies (almost 40 years ago) and how dry my mouth became while I tripped over my every word while speaking gibberish.  I am currently filming for a promo for an April 2014 event, that has to be shown this time next year, and I absolutely know I shall be bring in talent for the VO.

  • What's new in Photoshop CS6 for an enthusiastic amateur?

Is there anything in CS6 to interest an enthusiastic amateur or should I stay with my CS5.1?

Camera Raw's PV2012 process does some great things, such as managing the transitions into overexposure much more adeptly than its predecessors.  The new image analysis-based CA correction feature is great as well, though I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that was also available with PV2010 in the Camera Raw 6.7 release candidate for Photoshop CS5.  But the Camera Raw 7 control layout seems more intuitive and is a bit easier to use as a result.
In Photoshop proper, there appear to have been lots of JDIs ('just do its'), which are little improvements to existing functionality.
I've been experimenting with reprocessing photos I've processed before with Photoshop CS5, and so far I'm finding it incrementally easier to achieve better results, so the whole CS6 package does seem to come together rather nicely.  Though the look has changed some, it's NOT a matter of "OMG, I have to learn to do everything over again!"
Discovery of all the new little things is a lot of fun.

  • What is new in Photoshop elements organizer

Are there any changes to the photoshop elements organizer from version 8 to 9

I agree.  In some ways it is a real step backward.  I would not recommend "upgrading" to
PSE9 based on one day of working with it.  Lost the ability to see all files in folder view and it is
    EXTREMELY SLOW.
I really wish I hadn't changed to PSE9 and converted my catalog, which it didn't fully convert properly.
    Stay away from this upgrade!

  • Photoshop CS4 -- Bug in What's New

After installing CS4, I looked in Photoshop for What's New, which previously was to be found under help. I finally found it, under Essentials, but instead of launching What's New, instead you get a panel which says "the selected workspace will modify menu and/or keyboard shortcut sets. Would you like to apply this workspace?" What's going on?

Understood. So jsu how do you find What's New in Photoshop CS4? I see that with In Design, What's New is found in the equivalent location and links to an adobe.com page instead of popping up the mysterious message above referenced.
A search in Photoshop CS4 help yields Workspace > What's New in CS4, which obviously isn't working.

  • Photoshop 12.0.4 is out (Tue 3 May) - what's new?

Looks like Photoshop 12.0.4 was released this morning, somewhere around 2am Eastern.
Are there full release notes somewhere? (Like InDesign has here for 7.0.4.)
The above URL notes some changes:
The 12.0.4 update enables specially designed apps on tablets,
smartphones, and PCs to communicate with and control interaction with
Photoshop CS5 (Located in the File menu: Remote Connections). Now you
can be creative on other devices and instantly incorporate what you
create into Photoshop. You must install the 12.0.4 update to activate a
remote connection between Photoshop CS5 and any apps that Adobe or
third-party developers create to interact with Photoshop. For example,
Photoshop CS5 must be updated to 12.0.4 to interact with three new iPad
apps that Adobe has designed to work with it - Adobe Nav, Adobe Color
Lava, and Adobe Eazel. Available on the App Store.
The 12.0.4 update also fixes liquify performance, type related
crashes, and other top customer issues. The most significant fixes
    include the following:
    • A number of potential security vulnerabilities have been addressed.
    • Liquify save mesh now works as expected.
    • An issue with Sharpen crashing has been fixed.
    • An issue with Quick Selection crashing has been fixed.
    • The Orphea Studio File Info issue has been resolved.
One might also infer that bugs fixed in the Windows-only 12.0.3 update that are cross-platform are also fixed:
The most significant fixes in the Photoshop 12.0.3 update include the following:
-- Windows XP tool tip font issue introduced by 12.0.2
-- A number of potential security vulnerabilities have been addressed
-- Top type and font crashers found in the field have been addressed
-- A number of performance issues have been addressed
-- Crash opening 3D layers has been addressed
-- Color Engine crash has been resolved
-- Intermittent file format issues addressed
    -- Shift scrolling bug fixed
    -- Sharpen crasher fixed
-- Marching ants not seen at certain zoom levels fixed
-- Metadata focus distance issue addressed
-- File info bug addressed for Orphea Studio jpg's
    -- TWAIN crashers fixed
    -- Brush cursor bug fixed
-- Histogram progress bar issue fixed
    -- Droplet issues addressed
    Thanks!

Something has changed between 12.0.2 and and 12.0.4 with the pixel grid overlay at zooms > 500%.
The pixel grid in 12.0.4 now uses 2 pixels "averaged." 12.0.2 used alternating rows and columns.
At lower zooms (501% — 1000%) it looks better to me. At 1600% it looks fuzzier, but probably a bit more precise than the alternating method. Keep in mind this is just for screen drawing purposes. It doesn't affect the image.
    fyi.

  • Whats new in photoshop for 2015

I love photoshop and want to know what's new for 2015

We don't know. Adobe has not released any announcements as of yet. Those in the testing programs are not allowed to say anything.

  • What's new in Premiere Elements 13?

Premiere Elements 13 is more of a refinement than  a major overhaul of Adobe's consumer video editing program. Though there are a couple of cool new features worth noting:
    • New Guided Edits. Version 13 adds more tasks to its library of Guided Edits – step-by-step walkthroughs of its tools and effects.
    • The Shake Stabilizer. The Shake Stabilizer is a very nice update of the old Video Stabilizer effect.
    • Favorite Moments. A brand-new feature in version 13 is Favorite Moments, a tool for selecting the best moments from a video clip and compiling them into a smooth, new video sequence.
    • Video Story. Certainly the most exciting new feature in Premiere Elements 13, though, is Video Story, an advanced tool for assembling clips and building stories using templates and semi-automatic tools.
    • Burn your disc to ISOs and Folders. In version 13, your DVDs and BluRays can be burned directly to a disc or they can be archived as ISO image files for later burning to disc.
    • Organizer enhancements. The Elements Organizer has also been given a tune-up. The interface has been nicely decluttered, and there’s even tighter integration with Adobe’s Revel “cloud”.
But the most interesting addition is the new theme-based Slide Show Creator, a tool that, for the first time, is available on both the PC and Mac versions of the program.
    • Elements Live (eLive). Elements Live is a link directly from the programs to an exclusive web site full of exciting ideas, tutorials and other content especially for Elements users.
For screen shots and more details on these new features, as well as tutorials demonstrating how these new features work, see the links on the left side of this page.

    Over_Nyquest,
    Thanks for noticing!
Here are some of my personal favorites for some of the "what's new" in v13 - the entire new feature list and specific use cases on how to use these features will be rolled out over the next several weeks...
    1. Circuit Parameters - For modeling, you can set 'global' style variables and have component and model values be expressions that are dependent on these values.  There is a circuit parameters dialog for adjusting the values and they can be used in the SPICE analyses (such as parameter sweep).
    2. More components - Maxim has been added as a supported manufacturer (+1300 parts) and many updates to our other supported manufacturers (+1500 new parts/updates from various mfrs).   We've added several new power models for thermal analysis (also included are some new eGAN FETs from EPC - these are new, small, highly efficient FETs).
    3. Updated the Component Wizard - makes it easier to do the symbol pin mapping for models.
    4. The LabVIEW API is now part of the installer (so if you have LabVIEW, it will automatically install for use in automating your simulations).
    5. PCB templates for reusing designs.   Also new/better dialog for multisection parts in heirarchical designs (which helps to better ensure synchronized hierarchical schematics/layouts).
...various others...  you can open the Examples folder for some good examples some of the newest features...and you can look at the documentation for some additional details (All Programs -> National Instruments -> Circuit Design Suite 13.0 -> Documentation -> Circuit Design Suite 13.0 Readme).
