What's New Page missing

Hi,
ever since I've updated Firefox to version 16 (or something) the What's New page has been gone. First, I thought it's just a temporary glitch or something (my add-ons are messing with it, or whatever) but today my pc forced me to re-install Firefox from scratch and I'm 1oo% sure that I wasn't using Firefox 20 back then. So, after installing the latest version (20) my bookmarks, add-ons and preferences were gone, still, the What's New page didn't show up.
Any ideas what I can do to get it back?

This isn't the friendliest pathway to find it, but you can open the release notes for each version of Firefox here: [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox/releases/]. There are links to the help articles for the biggest changes.

  • Keeps coming up with "What's New" page everytime I open Firefox.

Everytime I open Firefox (5) it keeps checking whether my add-ons would work with it and then opens the "What's New" page. It's starting to get really irritating.
Is there a way to stop it from doing this?

I suspect a bad add-on. Since add-ons often are installed externally to Firefox, I suggest starting here:
Open the Windows '''Control Panel''', Uninstall a Program. After the list loads, click the "Installed on" column heading to group the infections, I mean, additions, by date. This can help in smoking out undisclosed bundle items that snuck in with some software you agreed to install. Take out as much trash as possible here.
Then, in Firefox, open the '''Add-ons page''' using either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable (or Remove, if possible) unrecognized and unwanted extensions.
Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
Finally, you can "mop up" remaining issues with the scanning/cleaning tools suggested in this support article: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]].
    Does that clear it up?

  • When I start Firefox the Firefox "what's new" page pops up -- even after I answered the question and viewed the video

Whenever I start Firefox I get my homepage and the Mozilla "what's new" page in tabs. It is annoying.

    Hi jhmalik,
You should look at [https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Firefox+has+just+updated+tab+shows+each+time+you+start+Firefox this article about that specific issue] and the article [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Preferences_not_saved Preferences not saved]. These should give you all the information you need!
    If that doesn't work:
    # Type about:config in the address bar
    # Click ''I'll be careful, I promise'' if prompted
    # In the Filter input field type ''startup''
    # Double click on startup.homepage_override_url
    # Delete the text string and click ''OK''
    # Close Firefox and reopen the window to verify that it has worked.
    Hopefully this helps!

  • How can I stop firefox from checking add-ons and displaying the What's new page each time I launch it

Since upgrading to the latest version, I have viewed read and interacted with everything on the What's new page. I have done this a number of times but the page is still opened each time I launch Firefox. In addition it shows my homepage in a second tab.
Prior to opening Firefox it checks for add-ons.

hello Michells, this will likely be caused by the user.js file in your profile folder.
go to the firefox ''menu ≡ > help ? > troubleshooting information'', click on ''profile folder/show folder'' and close all firefox windows afterwards. a windows explorer window should open up - in there delete the file named '''user.js''' and restart the browser afterwards.

  • Why Firefox 5 opening the "What's new" page every time I start the browser?

I have Firefox betas since version firefox 4 beta 1, so when it's updated to version 5, I uninstalled firefox, and install the clean version 5 with my saved settings.
Everything went okay, started the browser and it searched for addon compatibility, opened up the What's new page. But now it is for every start, so it's very annoying.
I tried clean the mess but nothing changed.
How can i solve this? thanks, and sorry for my english

  • After update to 12 every start is like the first one (add-ons check+what's new page)

After updating from FF11 to FF12, every start of the browser is like the first one after update: checking the add-ons compatibility, and displaying "what's new" page. I could live with it but it doesn't make it less annoying. Help anyone!

Which security software (firewall, anti-virus) do you have?
Some security software has virtualization features that can cause problems by protecting and restoring files in the Firefox profile folder.

  • When opening, firefox keeps checking if my extensions work in new verision, and shows me what's new page.

As the title says, every time I start Firefox, it thinks that the update is new. Checks extensions and shows what's new page.

Did you try to delete the prefs.js file and a possible user.js file?
It is also possible that there is a problem with the file(s) that store the extensions registry.
Delete the files extensions.* (e.g. extensions.sqlite, extensions.ini, extensions.cache) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry.
New files will be created when required.
    See "Corrupt extension files":
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Unable+to+install+add-ons
If you see disabled, not compatible, extensions in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the Tools button at the left side of the Search Bar (or click the "Find Updates" button in older Firefox versions) to check if there is a compatibility update available.

  • HT3180 What's new page won't go away

What's new page is up and the remote clicks (something even plays in the background...) but the page won't go away.

Ive had this issue too and it frustrated me for weeks, but i just fixed it tonight.
Hopefully you can do this same.
If you power up appletv you will get to that whats new screen. Wait for 5 minutes (seems a long time when youre waiting!), but eventually that screen will time out and it will move on to the main page.
Now test your apple tv remote, the real one. Does it work on this screen? Mine didnt. Did before the update and now not.
So get another remote, maybe youve got a multifunction remote or an ios device.
I used my iphone remote app and scrolled along to setting>general>remotes.
in this screen there was a setting for Unpair apple remte. So i thought id unpair and then re-pair again.
Did that but still the factory remote wasnt working.
So then i unpaired again, without re-pairing.
    Now it works.
Its like the Pair/Unpair menu label is back to front (or something, cant explain it really).
So then i powered apple tv down and then back up to get to that whats new page. Pressed the remote and YAY! the screen is gone.
I dont know what to do if youve lost the remote that came with apple tv, but a little hint form my household is that it was WAY down deep in the side of the couch that i sit on the most - the shape of the thing just makes it burrow deeper down every day!
    Hope this helps someone

  • I installed Firefox 29.01 but two pages keep popping up, my home page and the what's new in Firefox page. How do I stop the What's New page from popping up?

I installed Firefox 29.01 but every time I open it my home opens and so does the What's new in Firefox page. I want to disable the What's New page and only want the home page to open up but everytime I start Firefox both pages open up.

hello, this might happen when firefox is not able to properly save preferences in its profile folder. please try this: Click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]] and then click help [[Image:Help-29]] > troubleshooting information > profile folder - "show folder". then a new window will open up. in this window look out for a file named '''user.js''' (it might be used to overwrite your custom settings). in case it is present , delete or rename this file and restart firefox afterwards.

  • Firefox 6.0 AND 6.1 ALWAYs loads compatibity check and then what's new page as well as my home page

    <blockquote>Locking duplicate thread.<br>
    Please continue here: [[/questions/866032]]</blockquote>
The problem is that EACH TIME I open Firefox 6.0 and now 6.1 I just installed it runs a compatibility ad-on check AND then opens the "what's new?" page AS WELL AS my home page in a separate tab. I then have to close the "what's new" tab to get to home page. I never had this problem with all other previous Firefox versions. Any thoughts or suggestions. Anyone else have the problem?
If I revert back to a version 5 will it keep my bookmarks? These versions 6,o and 6.1 are just a hassle to me. I run Windows XP home.

  • How do I turn off the automatic check for update on opening Firefox? I want to turn off that "what's new" page.

How do I turn off that automatic update that always brings me to the "what's new" web page? It was interesting the first time, but now it is just an irritation. I can check for updates on my own, so I want to turn off this feature. It just started up when I upgraded to Firefox 5. I can't find a place to stop it from checking and bringing me to that web page. Also, I can't stop it from checking add-ons every single time I open the browser.

did you check the suggestions mentioned in the article i posted in my previous post ??

  • After updating Firefox, the "What's New" page doesn't say what bugs have been fixed

I updated from 3.6.9 to 3.6.10. When restarted, Firefox displayed this page: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/3.6.10/whatsnew/
Supposedly it describes what's new in 3.6.10, but all it has is what's new in 3.6. Nothing about what bugs have been fixed.

This is only a chemspill release to fix a crash.

  • Since downloading 34.0.5 my home page populates at startup as well as a Mozilla What's New Page. It is not in my preferences but I can't stop it. Ideas?

I have also noticed that in another browser, my homepage preference disappears after every shutdown so I am assuming these are related since both happened after downloading 34.0.5. Any help is appreciated. Don't tell me to check my homepage preferences because that is not it.

  • FF 29 What's New/Committed to privacy page keeps opening

The What's New/Committed to privacy page keeps opening. Windows 7 for the OS. Things I have tried:
Delete user.js and prefs.js. Didn't fix the issue.
Set browser.startup.homepage_override.mstone to ignore both via about:config and directly editing prefs.js (one at a time, and both at the same time). Didn't fix the issue. It just overwrote that when FF opened the next time.
Set prefs.js to read only after changing the mstone setting. Same thing, it still opened even though the file was read only and said ignore.
This is not a home page issue. I don't have multiple home pages, the what's new page is not in my home page, I'm not saving open tabs, etc.
