What's that button on top right corner?

New to Mac and OSX here, I'm still not sure about some of the most basic things.
On the top right corner of windows (not on all but most), there's a little button that one can click on, I have the follwing questions:
1. What is it supposed to do?
2. On some windows, clicking on it shrinks the window size, whereas on others it enlarges the current window. On some others, it doesn't do anything. And on Firefox, it hides the address bar. Is this normal?
3. Is there a keyboard shortcut key for that button so I won't have to click on it every time with a mouse?
Thanks in advance!

The reward system helps to increase community participation. When a community member gives you (or another member) a reward for providing helpful advice or a solution to their question, your accumulated points will increase your status level within the community.
Members may reward you with 5 points if they deem that your reply is helpful and 10 points if you post a solution to their issue. Likewise, when you mark a reply as Helpful or Solved in your own created topic, you will be awarding the respondent with the same point values.

  • My computer now has the 'new scan' and 'accept' buttons on top right corner & does not scan

my computer crashed.  I re-installed my PSC 1510 drivers( updated from the HP web site) and when I hit the scan button, the 'new scan' and 'accept' icon appear in the top right corner of my monitor(they use to be on the bottom right corner) and the scanner does not respond.  Even if I hit the new scan button, nothing happens.  Any ideas what to try next?  Thanks

  • What is that button to the right of "Print" ?

Yeah, I was disapointed about the lack of tooltips in the
FlashPaper UI. If there were tooltips I probably wouldn't have to
ask this question. We here can't seem to make out what this button
does next to the standard Print button (to the right). It has a
document looking icon to it, but when we click it, the behavior
varies from machine to machine, ranging from nothing happening, to
javascript errors, to showing the windows toolbar when running in a
fullscreen projector. what is that button's purpose?
    Thanks!

*Press the F10 key or tap the Alt key to bring up the "Menu Bar" temporarily if the menu bar is hidden.
*Use "Firefox > Options" instead of "Tools > Options" if the menu bar is hidden.
Firefox 4+ versions have two bookmark buttons with a star in the Customize window.<br />
One star button has a drop marker that open a Bookmark menu.<br />
The other star button without the drop marker opens the bookmarks in the sidebar.<br />
You can drag the Bookmarks menu button with the drop marker in the Customize window from the toolbar palette on a toolbar (e.g. Navigation Toolbar or Tab Bar or to the left side of the Bookmarks Menu Items).
You only see the Bookmarks Menu button if the Menu bar with the Bookmarks menu is hidden (View > Toolbars or Firefox > Options).<br />
If the Bookmarks Toolbar is visible then the Bookmarks Menu button is displayed on the Bookmarks Toolbar as part of the Bookmarks Toolbar Items (bookmarks), but you can move it from the right side to the left side of the Bookmarks toolbar if the Customize window is open.<br />
Otherwise the Bookmarks Menu button will appear on the right side of the Navigation Toolbar.

I have created a module pool and calling screen from main screen using Call screen.... Starting... ending... statement.
It is a modal screen. As a standard a [X] appears on top right corner. But when I click it doesn't work. How can I make it work?
    Any Pointer is appreciated.
    Thanks in advance for help.
    Regards,

    Hi Arun.
I have the same problem, meaning I'm looking for a way to close a popup Window with the [X] button at the top-right corner.
I switched from "Normal" screen to "Modal dialog box" and also created my PF-STATUS as a "Dialog box" but still nothing happens. When I press the [X] button I don't get to my PBO code at all.
I even tried to debug (System debug activated) the [X] action but nothing is triggered.
    Any help will be appreciated.

  • How to add a Button on SUS top-right corner ( Near Log off button)

    Hi Experts,
It's a bit urgent for me. Please give your valuable suggestions to achieve below scenario.
    My requirement is :-
adding a button on top-right corner(near log-off button) of SUS screen.
when that button is clicked, a pop-up should appear, which shows a list of supplier IDs.
SUS user selects a supplier ID from this list.
Subsequently, PO, Invoices and other documents should be filtered out based on supplier ID selected.
Request you to help me how to achieve it technically. Thanks a lot.
    Regards,
    Ratnesh

    Hi,
is that button really necessary or is it enough to achieve the functionality you are describing?
If the latter, this is standard SUS.
When you give that user the SUS admin purchaser role that user gets a 'find supplier' link in the menu at the left hand side.
In here you can search for the correct supplier (or just press search without parameters and you get a list. When you click on one of the results the user will act as if it is an employee of that supplier. Including only displaying documents of that supplier.

In Numbers, I can see my documents but they have the top right corner turned over with a down arrow, what does that mean? I touch it and nothing happens.
I have recently done a full restore because my iPad and iPhone were mis-behaving and wouldn't work they way I expected with Windows XP and Outlook 2003 and now when I check iCloud.com, all my documents are gone, yet my iPad hints that they may still be somewhere but where are they?

That is the orientation lock symbol, you can not go to landscape orientation. Tap the home button twice, swipe the task bar to the right, tap on the 'circle' icon at the left to unlock the orientation. You will then be able to view items in portrait and landscape mode.

  • Images have ? symbol on the top right corner of the thumbnail  what does this mean and how do I remove it?

    Q - My images have a
? symbol on the top right corner of the thumbnail what does this mean and how do I remove it?
    A - The
? symbol is used to identify a file that Lightroom can no longer access; probably because it has been moved using OS drag/drop or Move command rather than Lightroom.
    Click the
? symbol will cause a small dialog will appear. This dialog will provide information as to where the file was originally located along with an option to find (Locate) it again.
As you'll quickly realise, clicking the
? symbol is fine for finding individual files that may have been relocated, but not for large numbers. There must be a better way
Look at the Folder panel (left side of Library module) and you should find that the folder/subfolder containing the files that Lightroom can no longer find are shown in Red text. It is the red text that Lightroom uses to help you identify a folder/subfolder that contains files that it has lost track off.
    On the Mac you should
Ctrl-click (right-click when using two button mouse) the folder/subfolder, a pop-up menu will appear. From the pop-up menu choose the command
Locate Missing Folder, a dialog should appear. The dialog gives you access to every hard disk connected to your computer or CD/DVDs if they're in the tray. Use this dialog to navigate to the location where the folder is now located, then select this folder (not the files). Finally, press the
Choose button and allow Lightroom to do its stuff.
The method described above also applies to the PC version although the dialog is called
    Browse for Folder and the
    Choose button is replaced by
    OK.
You can avoid getting into a situation were Lightroom looses track of your folders/subfolders by using a variation of above.

in the top right corner of my iphone screen there is a small padlock with a circle around it, what is this for and how do i get rid of it, it has just popped up...

That is the orientation lock indicator. It means that you phone will not go into landscape mode when tilted on it's side.
To turn orientation lock off double tap the home button, to access the multitasking menu, then swipe your finger to the right over the multitasking bar at the bottom and touch the big button on the left with the padlock.

  • What does this symbol (in the top right corner of the screen) mean: a lock icon with an arrow encircling it?

can anyone tell me what it means, and how to get rid of it?
    much appreciated

It is the Orientation lock.  To disable it or turn it off, double click your Home button and swipe your finger to the right on the Multitasking Bar.  Here you'll see the Orientation lock.  Tap it once to turn it off.

This part of tabbed pane is not customizable as it lies in the ComponentUI(TabbedpaneUI) portion of the tabbedpane.
But I can point out the place u can change to bring the desired feature into effect.
U can find an Inner class called ScrollableTabSupport
Look for the methods createButtons where u can create extra buttons and add to the tabbed pane.
The Inner class also implements actionListener where u can implement the action for the button u added.
By this method U have to use your own extended TabbedPaneUI which u cant escape from.
    Hope this will help u.

  • Why do the minimize, maximize, & close buttons in the top right corner disappear (turn to a black void) unless FF is maximized?

I am running Windows 7 on my new laptop. When I bought it back in August, I installed Firefox version 5 (I think) Now that I have updated to version 6, the minimize, maximize, & close buttons in the top right corner disappear when the window is not maximized. It becomes a black space where the buttons should be.

    Hi Kossa,
You can also check if the issue occurs in
Clean Boot. If the issue disappears in the Clean Boot environment, you can continue to narrow down which entry is causing the issue.
    Besides, uninstall it and re-download
a fresh copy of FireFox to check the result. If the issue still exists, create a new user account to see if it occurs.
If the issue persists, you can contact Mozilla Support directly and use Internet Explorer (IE) during the time.

  • The menulets in the top right corner of my screen have disappeared. What should I do?

My brother was using my iMac today, and logged out of my account. When he did, every menulet in the top right corner of the screen disappeared besides Spotlight and the printer one. I tried to go to System Preferences and bring the menu buttons back up, but when I clicked on them, the check mark would appear but the icon wouldn't go back to the bar. Command+Drag also is not working. I am running OS X Leopard, if that makes any difference. Thanks for helping!

Yes, that's a manufacturing fault. Take it back for a replacement. Don't even try to fix it.
