What's that little number in the red circle in the iCal dock logo?

That little number repeats or totals in blue circles in my individual calendars' titles, as though it needs to be read or cleared or completed or something.

wegreffi44,
The number indicates that you have been invited to an iCal event.
iCal>View>Show Notifications will allow you to accept or decline the invitation. (You can also click on the third icon from the left at the bottom of the iCal window to reveal Notifications)

What's with the number in a red circle above the FaceTime icon?  How do I get rid of it?

I'm interested in this too, kongakut2012.  I can't see an envelope either.  I discovered that the number probably meant that I had a missed call, but when I cleared all recent calls (including the missed one) the number didn't go away.  So -- where's the envelope, please???

Do a hard reset by pressing the button on the face of your Ipad and the on off switch.

I have a new iPhone 5C, have the sounds alerts set up. But I'm not getting sound alerts for new voicemail, only the red circle on the screen.  How can I make the sound alert work?

I have had this same problem for weeks now with my 4S.  I just got a new 5S after being extremely frustrated and the same thing - no sounds.  After searching posts all over, I couldn't find a solution. I just told my friend of the issue and he asked "Do you have the Do Not Distrub on?"  I didn't even know such a function existed.  Upon looking that was exactly the issue.
To resolve, go to Settings> Do Not Disturb> Manual.  If it is green, turn it off.  You will now get phone calls and text alerts.
This functionality is also on your quick access utility menu (slide up menu).  I assume this is how it was enabled on my phone.
I will post on other sites since I searched for weeks for this solution and didn't see it anywhere.  Good luck!

  • HT1363 My ipod click wheel will not go into disk mode.  All I get is the red circle with the X in it

The only thing my ipod will do is display the red circle with the X in it.  I can not put it in disk mode, it won't work.  It's the 160 GB classic with the click wheel.  Is there anything else I can do to make it work again?

If you are unable to get the iPod into Disk Mode, the Hard Drive is likely damaged and beyond repair. You'll probably want to have it replaced either by Apple or a third party service center.

  • Drawing the red circle on the iphone

Is there some in-built function where I can draw that red alert circle, like what you see when you have a new message or missed calls?

So I found an easy way to do it, but I have a problem with it.
I created a subclass of UITabBar in which all I did was override the drawRect method to do nothing. I then added a UITabBarItem with no image or text, but I set the badgeValue and that worked well.
My issue now is that the badge is too small for what I want on the screen. Does anybody know how I can make it bigger?
    Thanks!

    LCLinda,
Oh no! I appreciate you trying all that you have. That most definitely is a way to try to get the device back up and running. Let's try these steps: http://vz.to/1Dztmpm. Keep us posted.

  • What happened to the red circle icon showing unread mail messages?

I have an iPhone 5, version 7.1.1. The Mail icon used to show me the number of unread messages I had with a white number in a red circle in the upper right hand corner of the icon. For some reason, it no longer does. Any thoughts on what might have happened or how I might be able to fix it?

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Envelope Index
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A Finder window will open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have names that begin with "Envelope Index". Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Log out and log back in. Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is corrupt and that Mail has to quit. Click OK.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the file you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

  • This is probably a stupid question, but what does the red circle with a number in it mean on iCal? It looks just like the emails notification. I do not have anything do or up in my cal.

This is probably a stupid question, but what does the red circle with a number in it mean on iCal? It looks just like the emails notification. I do not have anything do or up in my cal.

Actually, another person on the "more like this" had the right answer. It meant I had a notification for an invite that I needed to respond to.
Hope this helps you as much as it helped me.

  • I own an HP 5512. if I press the red x on the printer, will that cancel all print?

used a website and a packet contained like 64 pgs.  i kept clicking on the print and it would not print.  it is the correct printer too.  so' I have used a mess of paper and have went through several cartridges.  so, I  am hoping by pressing the red x on the printer that it will cancel anymore prints jobs.  is this correct or is there another solution?

    What operating system?
Pressing the cancel (red X) on the printer will cancel the current print job, it will not cancel otheres in the queue.
You can cancel other jobs in the queue as described in this document.

On my IPad 2 home screen, the mail app used to indicate the number of new messages with a number in a red circle, next to the app.  This has vanished, I think about the same time as when I upgraded to the new OS.  Does anyone know why and how to restore this feature?

Thanks.  While you were replying to my question, I went into notifications and figured
it out.  Appreciate the quick response!

It's not a command but a menu item: "Lock curves to tracks".
