What's the 14 inch screen like?

Hi, I am considering getting a 14 inch iBook, as I was thinking I'd have more room for things e.g. I like to work on two Appleworks documents side by side, which is difficult on my 12 inch iBook (which I have killed, hence my purchasing a new one!) But, it seems that on the 14 inch screen things take up as much space of the screen, just bigger... i.e. you still couldn't put two AW docs side by side comfortably. I hope I have explained it ok.
Could someone enlighten me? I know there are others factors in the decision, but knowing this would really help my decision, so if anyone could tell me I'd appreciate it. Thanks everybody!

I own both a 12" and a 14" G4 Ibook, so I'll relate my own personal experience. As indicated, the 12" and 14" are the same resolution, that being said, I prefer the 14". Much has been said that the 12" is sharper, but I can not notice any difference. I found that the default fonts in email and on most web pages were just too small on the 12" screen. I ended up always increasing text size on the 12" to get a comfortable view which frequently messes up web page displays. On the 14" since it is the same resolution, all the text and fonts are bigger. Enough so , that I find the default fonts in email applications, web apps and other applications to be the perfect size for comfortable viewing without having to resort to increasing text sizes.
Now, I'm a bit older than the typical iBook student user (Baby Boomer) and I wear progressive lenses, so my experience may not be typical for most iBook purchasers. In any event, I use the 12" for classes and traveling, and keep the 14" at home. But if I were forced to own only one, it would definitely be the 14". Besides the DVD burner is a great added value, not available AFAIK on the 12"

  • What is the best privacy screen protector for the MacBook Air?

I am looking for a privacy screen protector for my 13" MacBook Air that will interfere the least amount possible with image clarity and such. I work in a busy university medical center as an intern (so sadly I do not have my own office) and would like to be able to use my MacBook while sitting somewhat close to other people. Privacy is an issue because the information I deal with is protected by HIPAA and FERPA. What are the best privacy screen protectors out there, as far as quality and performance go?

Best there is, is the 3M privacy screen

3M has the entire marked cornered in quality exotic plastic films and screens.

  • What Were the First Apple Computers Like?

Hello fellow Apple users. I am interested in knowing more about the very first Apple commputers. I have been using Apple products for a few years (iPods, iPads, ect), but I have just made the switch to Mac! I made this switch for a few reasons. One, within a year of getting a PC, they would self destruct someway, somehow. Having used iPhone and iPad for quite a while, I saw that Apple prosessors seem to operate faster the the PC. Now I am happy to be a Mac owner!
I have become a loyal Apple customer because I love Apple products so much. After seeing the movie "Jobs", I am eager to know more about the history of the Apple computer. Altough I remember using the Apple computer in grade school, I'm not old enough to have seen the Lisa. My memory of the Apple computer goes back to the early 2000s.
I guess my question is, what were the first Apple computers like? What features did they have? What kind of software did it have?
If anyone knows anything about these older computers, please sure your information, if you don't mind. I greatly appreciate your time in reading my post and providing any answers. Thank you!

Mactracker, a multi platform app for the Mac OS, iOS has been around for a while. I like the iOS app in case I find a Mac in a store or in a yardsale and want to know the vital stats on a specific model.
The Mac platform has a history of probably well over 300 different models in its almost 30 year history. Apple produced other models like the famous Apple II, but there was only a handful in that franchice. Also Apple made printers, input devices like joysticks, speakers, etc. They tried to get into the digital photography with the "QuickTake" camera but didn't do well.
I was too young for the Lisa too, but they only made 10,000 of them, many unsold went into a dump in Utah, they are the second to the Apple I in terms of collective value. The Lisa was SO ahead of its time, the NeXT Cube was probably the second most high tech computer ahead of the real world market.
I've used Macs since I was very young (actually first computer was ether a Mac II or LC w IIe emulator) and I use PCs as well as Macs today. The Mac has slowly been more business friendly (I do a lot of business and enterprise IT stuff) and I hear you about the self destructiveness of their reliablity. I have had my MacBook run for months without a need to shut down or even a restart - wished my iPad or PC can do that!

what is the search iphone screen on left for?

Spotlight search is a simple utility used to quickly find content on you device. It's the equivalent to Spotlight Search on a Mac or Start Search on a PC but for your iPhone. You can manage what it searches for on the device in Settings > General > Spotlight Search

  • What's the difference between Screen Sharing and Remote Management?

As the title asks. What is the difference between the two?
Because heres the thing. I set Screen Sharing on in Sharing. Then a few days later I will go back to the Sharing preferences and instead of Screen Sharing being checked. Remote Management is now checked, not Screen Sharing. What's the deal? Is that normal?
I was wondering if it was because I log into my iMac sometimes using my iPhone with that Mocha VNC program. Its the only program I use to remotely control my computer. Is that it?
Any help I can get is appreciated! Thanks!

Remote Management provides support for the additional functionality of Apple Remote Desktop as compared to a standard VNC setup. The options are otherwise identical.

  • What does the upgrade process look like? Black screen after a few minutes o

    Hello,
I just received a new Macbook Pro. I turned it on for the very first time, entered in my name and password, etc. Then I inserted the SL upgrade diskd circular arrow, then black screen again.. It started up, I acknowledged the license agreement, it said it would take 56 minutes to install. So I walked away. Came back ten minutes later to a blank screen. It would not respond to swipe or click, i.e. no wake-up. After a few more minutes the computer seemed dark, cold, silent. Holding down the power button finally started it back up.
Disk spun, Apple log and spinning arrow, then blank screen again. I was finally able to eject the upgrade disk. I had to re-install Leopard and parts of iLife.
So what is a normal looking upgrade? Should the screen go blank? Did I screw things up with lack of patience?
    Any insights appreciated.
    Thanks, Joe

The screen should not go black.
Actually, this is normal for the default installation method (IOW, not starting by running from the DVD). The installer will first run some checks & then transfer a bunch of files to the drive for later use. The screen will be normal while this happens, but eventually the installer will restart the Mac & for a while the screen will be black -- typically less than a minute but sometimes longer. After this, the screen should reappear.
So, it is best to be patient & give the process some time to continue before deciding something is wrong & forcing a shutdown or restart.

  • Is there a way to have snap to functionality on the ipad3 apps screen like for MAC and win7?

Researching ipad3 and snap to functionality, similiar to that found on MACs and PCs using WIN7. Searched the web but I did not find anything specific to the ipad.

    pjl123 wrote:
Demo,  snap is essentially having 2 apps open side by side on the screen.  You always could in windows, and can on a mac.  The snap term makes it easier, there is a mouse click deal that will put them side by side.
I knew that it would expose my ignorance!
I've been running four and five apps at a time on on one screen on my Macs for years but had no clue that there was a mouse click command to do this.
After a quick Google search - I have discovered something new and I see what I have been missing. Thanks to you guys, now I know. I will have to look into this Snap thing.

  • What is the best touch screen display to use with a Mac mini?

Hello, forgive me I am not an expert when it comes to technology. I am thinking of changing my work computer system to a Mac mini at the moment as we have limited space and love the design of the Mac mini. We currently have an outdated dell computer linked to an ELO touch screen as part of our till system. I was just wondering if there were any recommended touch screen monitors that work well (not to much driver hassle) with the mini and are thin and easy on the eye.
Any advice would be gratefully received.
    Many Thanks

  • What's the icon that looks like a hard drive? (But isn't)

When I download something off of the internet (HandBreak, in this case) I get the .dmg file which then uncompresses the application, correct? Then, I get the icon that looks a bit like an external hard drive and it appears under Devices in the Finder's sidebar. My question is: what is that icon and what do I need to do with it? Does it need to get moved into the Application folder? Do I delete it? Just not sure.
    Thanks.
    Chip

    what is that icon
    It represents the mounted image.
what do I need to do with it?
You need to click on it. If there's an application inside, move that to the Applications folder. If there's a brown package icon inside, double-click it.

  • What does the report viewer look like

Ok, this is a stupid question, but I've been staring at the screen for 15 minutes and I'm stumped. I'm in Visual Studio 2010/VB.Net and I've created my first CR report in VS. I'm reading some step-by-step instructions for dummies on how to view the report at run-time. It says, "Select the default form (Form1.vb) you created in VB.NET and drag a button and CrystalReportViewer control to your form."
So where the heck in the CrystalReportView Control. When I right-click on the toolbox and chose add items I can see the there is a CrystalDecisions.Web and 1 for CrystalDecisions.Windows.Forms, along with a number of other CR namespaces. I can't see them in my toolbox, though. There are no CR objects in the toolbax. What are they labeled as? If I uncheck them and the chose add items again and re-check them nothing changes. Under the section of the toolbax all I have is the Microsoft.Reporting.WinForms.ReportView. There is no CR report viewer.
What section of the toolbax should the CR report view be under?
