What's the best PC setup for Premiere Pro?

Or am I in the wrong forum? After 12 years with FCP, I think I am.
I see Walter Biscardi's jumped ship. We've invested a lot in FCP's workflow, with xml-parsing tools and all sorts of stuff that may well have a life on another platform.
We're a Mac house now, but Premiere and Avid both work better on PCs, so we'll be ditching our Macs over time, I guess... any advice? HP or Dell?

Mr Less,
I fully understand that many if not most or all professionals think FCPX is lacking. I am all in favor of irony but have not seen any in your posts.  The addition of "lol" does not make a post ironic or funny.
If you dont find this thread ironic, then I suggest you update your dictionary and look-up Irony once more.
This time, spend a little time contemplating what it means. Just because you read the words doesn't mean you have grasped the meaning.
This thread is pure irony. Whether YOU like it or not play no role in this movie. Irony or should I say the terminology surrounding it is NOT  subjective to interpretation. Like an Automobile. Just because you dont think Automobile is describing something driving with a motor and 4 wheels well, does not make it less an automobile let a lone a train or fish... Perhaps you take dislike to the automobile, perhaps because it is green, and that is your right but it is STILL an automobile...

What is the best anti~virus foe macbook pro?

None whatsoever. I'm sure that you've heard the line that "Macs don't get viruses"? That's almost true - Macs can be infected with malware, however, and can pass viruses onto PCs. See Thomas Reed's Mac Malware Guide. The only two virus packages that are usually recommended are both free - Sophos and ClamXav. If you feel that you need AV software, try one or both.

Can someone please tell mewhich is the best antivirus program for macbook pro?

    Hi..
Both Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac and ClamXav are recomended and both are free.
Actually, malware is more of a threat on a Mac than a virus.

  • What is the best Mac choice for creating pro-level art/graphics/animation?

I'm an artist who does a lot of work with Adobe Creative Suite CS5, as well as some video editing and lots of animation. I've been using a 2007 model 15-inch Macbook Pro for the last 4 years, and it seems like it's time to upgrade...it runs burning hot all the time, and the battery dies pretty quick when the cord falls out. It seems like the whole thing is running a little slow, which is probably because I have a TON of graphics/animation/video software on there, but I need each and every program.
My question is, what is the best new Mac to purchase to replace this one? I want to make sure it lasts as long as possible, and will be able to handle the programs I use now. My first thought is to get another Macbook Pro, because of the portability, and just add on all the higher RAM, etc to customize it. But my husband suggested looking into the Mac Mini, because it's a lot cheaper, and we're a little strapped for cash at the moment. Would that serve the purpose? Or is a Macbook Pro really the best choice for what I need it to do?
I'd love to hear suggestions from other artists or graphics people. What do you recommend?

For a "cash strapped" person, unless you already
have a monitor, one of the new iMacs may be
a better choice.  If you do have a monitor, I would
suggest the dual core i7 equipt MacMini.  Since you state
you are using CS5 stuff, most Adobe apps,
Photoshop for example, do not make effective
use of multiple cores.  Also, using any of the
Adobe products, regardless of which computer
you decide on, get as much RAM as you can afford.

  • What is the best hardware setup for Design Premium?

I'm a high school teacher and  teach Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver, Flash, and I use  Bridge for yearbook.   My school district is buying me new computers but  wants me to come up with all the specs that I want.  I'm supposed to  give them my top choices for everything.  However, I'm a  user- not a tech person.  Can someone please give me a run down for  what I should ask for?  I need to know everything from processor, to  RAM, graphics card, hard drive, tablets, monitors, etc.  If you work  with these software programs all the time, what would your ultimate set  up be?
I'm currently using CS4 but would like to upgrade.   My school district does not use Macs- only PCs. I was not told a price  range, so just give me the best of everything.
    Please help ASAP.
    Thank you!

" I'm currently using CS4 but would like to upgrade"
IF THE UPGRATE IS TO CS5 64 BITS. Better to work with quad core with H.T. like i7 920,930,950. If you like somthing faster we talk about i7 970,980x, 990.
RAM: If you will work with heavy files, start with 12G RAM  3x4. So you have the possibility to upgrate after to 24 if you need it.
    "graphics card"
Nvidia card: GTX460, GTX470. NO NEED TO GO TO SERIES GTX5..
"hard drive"  many choises. Depent of what performance you want, This can incrise the price a loot.
"monitors" I will say samsung 23, the are sheep and if you like you can have 2 monitor on each PC.
    How many PC'S YOU NEED??

  • What is the best Skype setup for this scenario?

I live in the United States and about to be deployed to Afghanistan for about one year.  I will have a laptop and an International capable Android phone, both with Skype software installed.  I want to be able to use Skype to Skype via the laptop, and also be able to call both landlines and cell phones in the United States while I am in Afghanistan.  What would be the best Skype subscription plan in this scenario to keep costs to a minimum.

    Hi,
As you probably know, Skype to Skype calls are free, but if you wish to call phones then you would need a subscription that covers calling destination.
You might find Unlimited US&Canada subscription from: http://www.skype.com/go/subscriptions
Fair usage policy applies, but 6hours per day should be more than enough to call your family and friends back home in US.
    http://www.skype.com/go/terms.fairusage
Skype also offers Online Numbers for US. For example if you purchase an Online Number in US then your friends who don't have Skype can call that number. They will be charged with local rates and call will be directed to your Skype account when you are online on your phone or laptop.
Tip: If you do decide to purchase an Online Number for 12months then purchase calling subscription first and you will get 50% discount on Online Number.

  • What is the best easy setup for d600 nikon. and what is the best export for hd movie, 11 min ?

i'm exporting my movie in mpeg4, 1960X1080, for streaming.
all the movie is going well, but there is some cubes in the sky, and also, some frames jumpes.
I treid few times, but its always the same.
    Thank you,Lena

You should transcode the Nikon clips to Pro Res 422 before you import them to your project. That can be done in Compressor or MPEG Streamclip. Let FCP automatically determine the best sequence settings, based on your first clip.   Export your project as Quick Time Movie, current settings. If you need an MP4 with h.264, MPEG Streamclip can make it for you.

  • What is the best laptop to run Premiere Pro cc?

    Hi everyone,
I've been having a lot of problems with Premiere cc since I downloaded it a few months ago and am now realising the problem is with my computer.  I have a late 2012 Macbook Pro, 2.5 ghz, 8gb Ram, intel hd 4000 processor which just doesn't seem to have the juice to run Premiere pro smoothly.  If I do any kind of editing, even just colour correction, the footage gets very sticky when playing back in Premiere.  if I try anything advanced like adding warp stabilier the program crashes.  I also bought magic bullet looks and I can barely open it without the whole computer having a meltdown.
This has been extremely frustrating and has made working with Premiere pro a nightmare.  I am now planning to buy a new laptop/pc and am looking for suggestions on what to buy.  i am looking for best bang for my buck.  While I would be willing to spend over a £1000 I would obviously prefer not to if I don't  have to.  I thought my Macbook Pro would have more than enough horsepower to handle it and have been left dissapointed and frustrated so would really appreciate some advice from the wider Adobe community on this.  I am also open to suggestions on desktops, not just laptops.
    Thanks!
    Tony

    Hi Jim,
I am using it solely for wedding videography so it quite basic stuff.  I am filming on a canon 7d and really just looking or something that I can edit the footage with and put on some light effect/colour grading.  I am not able to say what level of effects I will be needing to use as at the minute when i try anything other than basic editing the programme has a stroke.  Like I mentioned I have Magic Bullet Looks suite sitting waiting for me but I haven't even had a chance to try it out.  One effect I really like but know that it is processor draining is some warp stabiliation .  There are certain shots it really lends itself to but I just bought myself a nice monpod and fluid head so shouldn't need that anymore.
Last night I tried downloading Premiere cc onto my girlfriends £500 basic desktop and to my great surprise everthing ran like a dream! (compared to my computer anyway).  Is this normal, that a cheap desktop would so comprehensively outperform a 12 month old Macbook Pro?  I am wondering if there is an unresolved problem with the macbook itself.
To give you an example, if i have put warp stabilisation on a clip on my macbook I have to put it at 1/4 resolution for it to playback and even then it is extremely choppy and sticky and sometimes crashes the programme.  Last night on the budget desktop I was able to put it to full resolution and it played smoothly, just like it would if it had been exported.
Any advice you could give on this would be much appreciated.  ive been round the traps with apple and adobe tech guys and neither of them can find anything wrong with the computer or the programme.
    Thanks,
    Tony

  • What is the best external drive for Macbook Pro?

Migration Assistant is not moving files from my Macbook OS X 10.5.8 to My new Macbook Pro just purchased. Apple Support suggested I transfer thru an external drive. They suggested a 1 TB. They said it would be sufficient for migration and afterward for back up and storage of media and pics. What would be the best one for this purpose?
    Thank You

Go to OWC and purchase a drive and an enclosure. Put it together yourself. Takes about five minutes and a screwdriver. Or you can purchase one already complete from them if you prefer.

  • What's the best authentication model for a PRO*C process?

We presently have a system where 5 or so PRO*C-based processes on remote nodes (HP OpenVMS) connect to a database (RH Linux) using Oracle Client and insert data. The current authentication method is for the C based program to read a connection string from a file and use that string to connect via an embedded sqlplus call.
This works fine, however having the string contained in a file isn't all that great an idea, even with the protection we give it. It would be easy for a programmer to recompile & debug the process and read the string, so it's not really all that secure. It also just doesn't seem the best way to do this....
I know this isn't much information to go on, but can anyone suggest a better model for this scenario that avoids putting connection strings and passwords in a file?
    Thanks in advance

    thanks for your helpfull evaluation.

OS X already includes everything it needs to protect itself from viruses and malware. Keep it that way with software updates from Apple.
A much better question is "how should I protect my Mac":
Never install any product that claims to "speed up", "clean up", "optimize", or "accelerate" your Mac. Without exception, they will do the opposite.
Never install pirated or "cracked" software, software obtained from dubious websites, or other questionable sources. Illegally obtained software is almost certain to contain malware.
Don’t supply your password in response to a popup window requesting it, unless you know what it is and the reason your credentials are required.
Don’t open email attachments from email addresses that you do not recognize, or click links contained in an email:
Most of these are scams that direct you to fraudulent sites that attempt to convince you to disclose personal information.
Such "phishing" attempts are the 21st century equivalent of a social exploit that has existed since the dawn of civilization. Don’t fall for it.
Apple will never ask you to reveal personal information in an email. If you receive an unexpected email from Apple saying your account will be closed unless you take immediate action, just ignore it. If your iTunes or App Store account becomes disabled for valid reasons, you will know when you try to buy something or log in to this support site, and are unable to.
Don’t install browser extensions unless you understand their purpose. Go to the Safari menu > Preferences > Extensions. If you see any extensions that you do not recognize or understand, simply click the Uninstall button and they will be gone.
Don’t install Java unless you are certain that you need it:
Java, a non-Apple product, is a potential vector for malware. If you are required to use Java, be mindful of that possibility.
Disable Java in Safari > Preferences > Security.
Despite its name JavaScript is unrelated to Java. No malware can infect your Mac through JavaScript. It’s OK to leave it enabled.
Block browser popups: Safari menu > Preferences > Security > and check "Block popup windows":
Popup windows are useful and required for some websites, but popups have devolved to become a common means to deliver targeted advertising that you probably do not want.
Popups themselves cannot infect your Mac, but many contain resource-hungry code that will slow down Internet browsing.
If you ever see a popup indicating it detected registry errors, that your Mac is infected with some ick, or that you won some prize, it is 100% fraudulent. Ignore it.
Ignore hyperventilating popular media outlets that thrive by promoting fear and discord with entertainment products arrogantly presented as "news". Learn what real threats actually exist and how to arm yourself against them:
The most serious threat to your data security is phishing. To date, most of these attempts have been pathetic and are easily recognized, but that is likely to change in the future as criminals become more clever.
OS X viruses do not exist, but intentionally malicious or poorly written code, created by either nefarious or inept individuals, is nothing new.
Never install something without first knowing what it is, what it does, how it works, and how to get rid of it when you don’t want it any more.
If you elect to use "anti-virus" software, familiarize yourself with its limitations and potential to cause adverse effects, and apply the principle immediately preceding this one.
Most such utilities will only slow down and destabilize your Mac while they look for viruses that do not exist, conveying no benefit whatsoever - other than to make you "feel good" about security, when you should actually be exercising sound judgment, derived from accurate knowledge, based on verifiable facts.
Do install updates from Apple as they become available. No one knows more about Macs and how to protect them than the company that builds them.
Summary: Use common sense and caution when you use your Mac, just like you would in any social context. There is no product, utility, or magic talisman that can protect you from all the evils of mankind.

  • What is the best internet brower for Macbook Pro?

I got my macbook pro a couple month ago, since day 1, i have had the following problems:
I can't get in some websites I want, or it takes "forever" to get in.
the page gets "freeze" often, and I have to turn it off to fix it.
I get the "rainbow wheel" a lot when I m browing on the internet or even on iphoto, or photo booth
when I turn on my comptuer, it takes so relatively long to start...
I was wondering if this is internet problem?? or the macbook itself s problem??
I download opera brower, it works a lot better than safari, but still I got frustrated for the above problem!!!
please help, I m having a nice notebook, but it seems useless most of the time.
    thanks!

You should have no problems using Safari browser. Naturally it all depends upon your internet connection and you ISP's service.
