What's the best setting to save  footage (.mov) to dvd/cd with best quality

Hi, I'm editing a little movie that might be played later on tv/cinema. I 'm trying to keep/burn my footage into a lighter format but I can't guess which setting is the best. Would the setting be good enough? (also do I burn it on a dvd or data cd?...) Is somebody could help me? Thank you, Laurence
(my footage were filmed with a 4 chip camera)

If you have the camera to import into iMovie I don't understand why you can't send it back to tape. That will be the best quality and the fastest time.
If your PowerBook doesn't have a DVD burner you could take the tape and camera to a friend that has a Mac and a DVD burner. Send the file to iMovie and then iDVD for burning.
Once you export to a lower quality QuickTime file some of the quality will be lost forever. The tape would be identical to the iMovie version.
There is no "best" export method because every file is different. I would use Movie to QuickTime movie, sized at 640X480 and select the H.264 video codec and Apple Loseless audio codec set at 48kHz stereo. Use the same frame rate as your source and a bit rate about 2,000.

  • What is the Best Quality Export??

Hi. I am editing a documentary, and i need to know what is the *BEST QUALITY export for my movie out of Final Cut Pro (6.0.2)*. All the video was f*ilmed using the Canon XL1S*. When i export and burn to DVD the image looks a bit fuzzy. I don't know if it is some how compressed, but *it does not look as "crisp" or sharp as the original image recorded onto the Mini DV*. I have been exporting test using the *"Current Settings" of the timeline wich i believe is the DV NTSC 48 kHz* setting. *Please Help!!!*

Shane's Stock Answer #3: How to output lossless Quicktime movies
To export your project so there is no loss in quality, simply go to the File Menu and select EXPORT>QUICKTIME MOVIE. Not Quicktime Conversion, fot this will compress the footage. Make sure the settings match your timeline settings, make it self contained, do NOT recompress the footage, and you are set.
I believe that you are doing it right. Now, to get that into DVD SP the best way possible, you have to use Compressor and the BEST QUALITY presets. Take THOSE resulting files into DVD SP.

  • FCP: What is the best quality sequence setting for HD Video with JPEGs?

    Hello,
If I am editing digital still images that are 3696x2464, in order to make them into a HD video in FCP what is the best sequence setting?
There are so many HDV settings and I still don't understand the aspect ratio options...
    please advise!

    Hello,
where do I choose the ProResLT in the setting window? and What should be the Frame Size and Pixel Aspect Ratio? I am trying different options and having a hard time finding a setting that doesn't distort or pixel the image. Please help!
Additionally, would this setting maintain the quality even when the movie is exported and burnt onto a DVD?
    many thanks.

  • What is the best quality encoding ?

I am buring a DVD on iDVD8. I am trying to set the encoding. There are 3 options: Best Performance, High Quality and Professional Quality. Reading the iDVD quide, it was not clear at all, what would give me the best quality.
Set aside the background encoding, and all other factors, what would give the BEST quality out of the 3 options ?
Why Apple could not say that in simple words in the guide ?

iDVD 6 offers 'Best Performance' (under 60 minutes on a SL disc) and 'Best Quality' encoding (under 120 minutes on a SL disc).
iDVD '08 offers 'Best Performance' (under 60 minutes on a SL disc), 'Best Quality' encoding (under 120 minutes on a SL disc) and 'Professional Quality' encoding (under 120 minutes on a SL disc).
With either version, if your content is under 60 minutes 'Best Performance' will give you the best quality!
If your content is OVER 60 minutes and under 120 minutes 'Professional Quality' in iDVD '08 should give better overall quality than 'Best Quality'

  • What's the best quality export for a 720 X 480 size, 24fps mp4 file?

    Whats the best quality export for a 720 X 480 size, 24fps mp4 file?
This movie trailer will be sent to a distributer overseas.
The export I been resorting to lately is MPEG 2 DV High Quality as oppose to anything HDTV because it just shrinks the picture, obviously lol
Do I have anymore options besides Mpeg 2: NTSC DV High Quality?

Lagarith is a codec that you install separately.  A very brief Search would have given you that info.
You can access the Lagarith option (once installed) using the Microsoft AVI format, and selecting Lagarith under Video Codec in the Video tab.

  • MP3 BOUNCING WHAT IS THE BEST QUALITY

what is the best possible mp3 quality to bounce out of logic.
    THANKS
    FRANK

i recently bought a song from i tunes and itunes has this protective code on the mp3 that does not allow me to import the song into the arrange window.
That's an .m4p file - it's protected and won't load in to Logic. You could burn it to CD, then rip the CD back in to an .aif or .mp3 file and load that in to Logic, but you'll lose quality.
As to your second question: why do you want to protect an .mp3? If you're planning to allow access to file(s) on the internet, consider streaming them, or get yourself an account with someone like myspace.com and allow access that way.

  • What are the best quality wireless speakers for use with iTunes

I'm not sure which is the best forum for this.  SO here goes:
I want to replace my wired powered speakers from my iMac with wireless so I can place them further away and clean up the desptop area.  I want decent sound and volume not tinny little portable junk.  But it doesn't need to meet audiophile standards either,
What am I looking for?  Thanks.

Intel processor in you MB Pro? Need it to capture avchd.
regarding file size and the need for external drive:
"AVCHD output files are about 120Mb per minute of footage. The converted output file will be about four times the size of the input. This is because AVCHD is a highly compressed HD format and we are uncompressing it into a Quicktime-friendly high definition format. Our example 1 minute AVCHD clip becomes about 500Mb in size, after conversion.
The final size of a converted clip has a lot to do with the amount of movement in the clip. A lot of movement will mean a larger file. Action clips can be as high as 7 times the size of the raw clips."

  • ...last question :  what's the best quality codec for exporting a clip?

I have to export a Motion clip with the best possible quality (with no loss of image or compression whatsoever).
what do you guys suggest? H264? or is there any better codecs? (I noticed that H264 create 'bleeding stains' on gradient backgrounds...)

  • What is the best quality scroll

How do I achieve the quality scroll in SD 720x480? I tried these and here my results:
    1. Live Type .... Jagged edge *
    2. FCP .... Wave effect **
    3. A/E exporting animation codec. .... Antialiasing problems *
4 Boris FX generator.... very slow wave effect, similar to FCP but much better quality **
Still is not 5 stars. Does anyone a better way to do the scroll?
    Thanks,

    I guess I'm stuck too...
OK, I tried to create a 720x65,000 px file in Photoshop CS3 (11.8 MB .psb); I could only save it as a Large File Format .psb (or TIFF or raw: more 130 MB...) which are not recognized by FCP, even when I increased the Still Cache to 340 MB...
So I don't understand how you did that.
Second, I tried with a smaller file, only 720x6,500: this I could save in .jpg, import to FCP, increase its duration to 60 secs, and crawl the long text using the Motion.
But probably this is not what you were trying: you wanted a .psd file in order to make use of its +text layer+ in FCP. Well I'm afraid here I ran again into the FCP/FCE bug that make them crash or corrupt a PAL (not NTSC) project when a .psd file is imported. No way to continue this test after 4 FCP crashes and later 2 messages "+File Error: 1 file(s) recognised, 0 access denied, 1 unknown+".
So I don't know how to help you here. My only thought is: isn't that 720x65,000 px file too large ? how could you import it to FCP (5.1.4) ?
    Sorry...
    Piero

  • What are the steps for burning HD footage to a DVD?

Up until now I have been shooting in SD and burning DVDs, using the Share feature in FCP X. Now I am wishing to do the same thing with HD footage. Am I correct in understanding I must first export to Compressor 4? I have been attempting to do that, but I am getting gummed up.
Basically I need help on the steps to follow, either within Final Cut Pro or within Compressor or both.
The details on the project are as follows: 1920 X 1080/ 29.97 fps   1080i HD    Codecs: H.264, Linear PCM.

As shown by my earlier reply I wasn't sure how you wanted to output your footage  .  .  .  as standard-def or hi-def.
    I assumed you meant standard-def.
However, if you wish to make a hi-def (AVCHD disc) using a normal DVD the process is as follows.
Select Share>Blu-ray and in the window that appears (see screenshot below) check that Output Device lists your disc burner and ends in (AVCHD).
If you are not bothered about menus and want your video to autostart, select  Play Movie otherwise you will need to create a menu.
With a DVD in the burner, click the Burn button and sit back and wait for FCP X to provide you with a nice new AVCHD disc which will only play on a Blu-ray player or PS3.

  • What's the best quality way to download video taken on my iPhone 4s to iMovie?

Looks like my only options are to email, message or send to YouTube. I want these videos taken to be put in iMovie. I thinking the quality and size of the video file is decrease by emailing it to me.

    Another thought. Might this work?
    1. Backup my iPhone to my MacBook (instead of iCloud)
    2. Sync my iPhone with my new iTunes library (it would now be associated with the MacBook)
    3. Restore my iPhone from the backup in step 1 (would this re-associate my phone with the old computer, or would it stay with the MacBook?)
    4. Do the restore a second time (to put the apps back in their proper order/arrangement)
    5. Sync my iPhone with the music library on the MacBook
    6. Set up the iPhone to backup to iCloud again, as it was originally
I don't want to just try it and lose my data. Is this a viable option?

  • What are the best quality settings in encore for DVD production?

    Hello everyone,
I'm Paul. I was working on a HD PROJECT 1920 by 1080 30p 50mbps. I export it is using h.264 codec which produce mp4 file in pr pro cs6. When I import it in encore and export to DVD. The quality gets so dull and blurry compare to other DVD. I did not make any changes, just import and burn. It would be very helpful if some one can suggest highest quality possible settings for DVD. I even exported my project to mpegdvd. Then tried burning it with Nero 11. Every time I get error message saying, " some of the files cannot be written on the disc"  and the quality is even worse if I use encore with this file. Today, I gave a try to Amrisoft DVD creator and the quality was awesome. I did nothing just imported mp4 and it burned it on the DVD. But I want to use encore since I bought the the whole production package. Thank you.

You do realize, don't you, that H.264 isn't a supported CODEC on DVD? Blu-ray, yes. DVD, no. And the top bit rate for DVD is 9.8Mbps IIRC, but a more practical limit is in the 7-8Mbps range. Maximum resolution is 720x480 in NTSC contries, and 720x526 in PAL countries, again IIRC.
So if you are coming to a DVD with 1920 x 1080 30p source at 50Mbps, a lot of information gets thrown away to make a DVD. Maybe 90% gets trashed. So it shouldn't be surprising that the resulting video looks "dull and blurry" in comparison. It should if you're only looking at 10% of the source data.
When I've done work something like this -- making DVDs from HD sources -- I typically set AME for MPEG-2, a max bit rate of around 8Mbps, a target of around 7Mbps, and let AME do the down-sampling and re-encoding as it will. The resulting DVD looks pretty good to me. Not anything like as good as a blu-ray, but played in an upscaling blu-ray player it looks reasonably good.
Now, it is possible to export small amounts of HD source (less than about 15 minutes worth) to DVD in blu-ray format. DVD players will choke on it since it's a foreign format, but some blu-ray layers will play it. Looks just like blu-ray for the short time that it will play. I've never done this myself though so I can't tell you how to do it.

  • What is the best quality headphone adapter out there?

I use a pair of ultimate ears 5 eb pros and I dont want it all to go to waste because i have to go through a low quality headphone adapter. i know the long belkin one sold at the apple store is the only popular one, but is there a high end model worth looking at?

Sorry, it's called Text+ (Plus) in the iTunes store in the Lifestyle section. I don't use any phone feature but it gives you a free phone number. This is simply so that other people texting you have a real number, not a pass through so they can text back without having to do anything special. All my friends, etc... we just add that number to our contacts as another text option. Works great for the iPad also that doesn't have a native text feature. Here is a link to their website. They have three version for the iPhone. Really nice, for .99 cents.

  • What's the best quality and cheapest 1GB RAM seller for iMac Intel?

I am looking to buy a 1GB RAM chip for my iMac Intel. However, this can be very expensive when bought straight from Apple. Where else can I get 1GB of RAM for a cheap price that will give me the quality I am looking for?
iMac Intel   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Currently have 512 MB RAM on iMac

Yes, you can successfully use a single 1Gb module. You can just as well add a second one that isn't matched. However, it should be very easy to match RAM modules without buying the second one from Apple. To be "matched" they must both be same speed, same size, same number of component chips on both sides.
Size is easy, both 1GB. Speed is easy, both PC2-5300 667MHz. Component chips - little black square or rectangular chips attached to one or both sides of the board. Count the number on each side of the board and duplicate that configuration and the two modules, one from Apple and one from xyz company, will be "matching" RAM. If there are 4 on the front and 4 on the back, buy another like that. If there are 8 on one side, and none on the other, buy another like that.

  • Fce, what is the best format to use?

have the home movie on dvd which I am pulling off with either handbrake or streamclip. what setting do I use for the output? the mac guy in my pro lesson mentioned there are many diff mpeg4s...but then wouldn't elaborate because even though it MY HOME MOVIE, that I SHOT MYSELF, and is on dvd, that it is illegal and he can't talk about it since by definition dvd is encoded and that is against the law...and to write my congressman to change the law....yet I don't feel like waiting that long to see if someone can tell me what is the best quality to use.
also, I am now using my sanyo c6 which puts it onto an sd card, which I can connect via usb2 and bring right in...is that ok quality, or is that also not so hot?
    thanks,
    Dan

The video & audio on playable DVDs are encoded as MPEG2. It is not DV video, it is MPEG2 video. MPEG2 video is a totally different format from DV and is much more highly compressed than DV.
To convert a DVD's MPEG2 format to the DV format needed by FCE, you need a tool such as MPEG Streamclip. Streamclip is capable of converting many different video formats to DV however if you need to convert MPEG2 video to DV it relies on QuickTime. The error message you are getting is that your system does not have the QuickTime MPEG2 Playback Component, which you will have to purchase from Apple ($19) if you want to use Streamclip to convert MPEG2 videos to DV.
DVDxDV and DVDxDV Pro are good products but they are respectively $25 and $80. The Pro version is a better choice than the regular version imho because it has more features and will give your converted files timecode. Not absolutely necessary, but very nice to have. The more video editing you do the more you will appreciate having timecode. Streamclip is free and the QT MPEG2 Playback Component is $19.
