What's the best substitution of events in the Photos

Since moments can't be named I was looking for a substitution of events. Albums are not optimal for what I need because many times it's just few pictures in each event and  I don't think albums are meant to be used for that. I may have 4-5 pictures that I want to name "Hadi's school contest", another 4-5 that are "In the restaurant with Sam", 4-5 more to name "kids playing with balloons in the backyard".
I think albums are meant to be used for larger collections of pictures that fits specific criteria (vacation, nature, ....) and not for few pictures each.
What I really need is just making notes on each photo in each collection. Not a good use for keywords either. I thought of making these comments in the title or description of  the photos. I was surprised when I found that I can't batch title or batch description in Photos.
What can be the best substitution for events for my needs.

Moments in Photos are the new Events, i.e. groupings of photos sorted by date taken.
When the iPhoto Library was first migrated to Photos there was a folder created in the sidebar titled iPhoto Events and all migrated iPhoto Events (which are now Moments) are represented by an album in that folder. To open the sidebar if it's not already open use the Option+Command+S key combination.
There's a way to simulate events in Photos.
When new photos are imported into the Photos library go to the Last Import smart album, select all the photos and use the File ➙ New Album menu option or use the key combination Command+N.  Name it as desired.  It will appear just above the iPhoto Events folder where you can drag it into the iPhoto Events folder
When you click on the iPhoto Events folder you'll get a simulated iPhoto Events window.
The downside to the simulation is that the Albums/Events can only be sorted automatically by Title. But they can also be sorted manually, either in the sidebar or in the folder's window at the right.
Ask Apple for more sorting options in Photos as well as for those iPhoto features that have been left out via https://www.apple.com/feedback/photos.html.

  • What is the photo, video, music capacity of the 16 gb ipad 2?

What is the photo, video, music capacity, etc. of the 16 gb ipad 2.   How do I compare it to the 32 gb ipad 2 to choose which one meets my needs?

Videos, photos, music files vary in size.
There is no real way to give you any accurate number.
My personal music library is 966 files, 6.81 gb.
One entire season of a 45 minute tv show, 22 episodes from iTunes is 10.96gb.
    Draw your own conclusions.

  • What is the photo library volume

what is the photo library volume

It sounds like it is telling you that you don't have enough free space on the hard disk drive where your Photos Library is located. A MacBook Air only has one drive (if you don't have an external drive connected) so it is telling you that your drive (SSD) is nearly full. If you go to the Apple menu and click About This Mac  and then click Storage it will show you how much free and total storage you have (e.g. 73.97 GB free of 120.14 GB).

  • What are the photo dimensions in the iPhoto book?

I'm scanning 35mm slides and want to know what size I should set my output. I'm looking in the iPhoto Help, but don't see anything about the printed page dimensions.
Currently, my scans show up in Photoshop's image window as: 4"x6", 256 dpi and 1500x1000 pixel size.
I think/hope this will be OK for 4, 3 and 2 images per page, but I want to rescan for the pages that will only have 1 picture.
Should I set my output to the actual physical size of the picture on the printed page of the book? If so does anyone know what the dimensions are for 1, 2, 3 and 4 per page?
Using VueScan software, I can set the input Scan Res from 300 to 4800 dpi. Is 600 dpi enough? Or should I go to 1200 or more?
My Canon LiDE 600F scanner says it handles up to 48 bit rate. Should I set the Bits to pixel to this?
    Thanks for your assistance,
    Steven

    Steve:
Setting the print size in Vuescan will adjust the dpi of the resulting file so that the photo is set to print that size. The scan dpi is what sets the number of pixels to be created during the scan. The print size just adjusts those pixels in the file so that an application like Photoshop will read it as that print size and adjusts the dpi as read to fit that size. If the print size it larger than the scanned image the dpi will be less than the scan dpi. It the print size is smaller conversely the dpi will be greater than the scan size.
If you think that you might use a photo for a full page layout in the iPhoto book, 8.5 x 11, you would want to scan at a resolution that would give you 3300 pixels in the largest dimension. For a slide that would be 3300/1.4 or about 2400 dpi. The books are printed at 300 dpi so a 2200 dpi on the maximum dimension would fill the bill for nearly all but a full, one photo per page, layout. And then it would still come out pretty good.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

Must have been a erase and install, as only OS X is replaced when merely upgraded.
is there a new photo app?
    No
Run the bundled app installer off your original disks that came with the machine, if that doesnt' work, then use Pacifist from CharlesSoft to extract the program off the disks.
Make sure to use Software Update so it get updated to current versions.

  • What is the best way to organize pictures for huge library?

    Hello.
I have lost 3 evenings of work the last week after the corruption of the iPhoto database. I lose my temper now . it was not the first time. but I’m ready to take long term action to improve the situation.
I have now around 15.000 pics & something like 15 Go of data. That means I have to use an external drive to store them all. Each team the connection between the external HD & my iBook is lost, not often but can happen, the database is bugged. Of course I gonna have more and more pictures in the future, I took 5.000 Go of pictures back from Australia.
My question is very general, what is the best way to handle this kind of database size?
Okay, now I know that I should bake-up the Library6.iPhoto file. What else?
Could I archive my rolls on CDs (well I should do it anyway) & delete the rolls from the database afterwards? What about the photo album? Is it possible to restore the pictures from the CDs to the hard drive?
I have read that I should create several libraries. That could be a solution. Is it possible to split the current one? I could import the pictures in a new library, but in this case I will lose the comments field.
I would really appreciate if you could send me your feedback about handling this size of library. Thanks in advance.

    Arnaud:
There's is a way you can have your library on your boot drive and keep the "source" files on the external. It's using iPhoto in it's alias mode. There are pluses and minuses to this system. The pluses are that you can have a very large library. I have 18,000+ photos in my alias library. The iPhoto Library folder on my boot drive is only 1.7MB while the source files on my external HD take up 27G.
The minuses are 1: if the external HD is not mounted then you can only view the thumbnail files and any full sized files that have been edited (the edited version is saved to the iPhoto Library folder). Any operation that requires moving a thumbnail or using the full sized version can't be run. 2: if you delete a photo from your library the "source" file does not get deleted. You'll have to do that via the Finder. 3: When you add new files it's best if you put them in their own folder with the other source folders and then import. If you try to put them in another folder it you'll have to import them manually instead of just dragging the entire new folder into iPhoto to create a new roll.
I've created some Tutorials to help users convert and use this type of library. It's not for everyone but may hold some pluses for your situation.
    Do you Twango?

  • What happened to the photos?

I uploaded photos from my digital camera to iPhoto ('o8). For some reasons that I can't understand, 5 of the photos have 0 KB but are still visible on iPhoto. I tried to make a slideshow, all showed except these 5 which produced a black space. Why?

Thanks Terence. Was it something that  I did that corrupted the photos? I'm trying new things with my camera and want to make a book of my photos. I don't want this to happen again...the photos were awesome. I did adjust the colours on iPhoto and then clicked  option at the bottom, i.e. replace or copy..not being familiar with any of that stuff. Perhaps that's what damaged the photos?

  • I made a imovie out of a group of photos and added music. When I burned to DVD on iDVD and played back the disc all of the photos were larger than the frame could accommodate and the sides were cut off. I also tried resizing from 16 9 to 4 3 and no better

I made and iMovie out of a group of photos and added music. When I burned to I DVD the pictures came out to wide to fit into the frame. I tried again by changing the size from 16 9 to 4 3 and it didn't make any difference. Would going to share to browser rather than directly to share to IDVD make a difference?

What do the photos look like if you play the movie within iMovie?  Sounds like adjusting Ken Burns would help.

What is the best program for designing event flyers? I am looking for something basic and simple.

Poor old Photoshop® is forever being put down when it comes to layout work, but it is perfectly capable, and can output a high quality print PDF the printer will be perfectly happy with.  OK you don't have the text flow between columns bells and whistles of InDesign and [spit] Publisher, but if you have a $10/month Photoshop/Lightroom subscription, instead of the $50/month full subscription, don't think you can't do a perfectly good flyer or poster.

  • What's the best option for event generation from an Oracle database?

    Hi all,
I need to interface from an oracle database into WLI (or elink if need be). The
code that needs to call this interface is written in pl/sql in the database.
What is the best way to enable the pl/sql to make a call to WLI?
I know you can set up an event trigger on a table using the sample DBMS adapter
so that it will send info to WLI via the events table in the database but this
is what they call a pull event(i.e. the adapter is actually polling this table
for whenever an event gets put into it I think).
Has anyone ever done a push type event? (e.g. calling java code from pl/sql that
    sends event to WLI)
Or anyone know whether the new JCA for Oracle Applications will help with this?
I am using Oracle 8.1.7 so don't have any extras with Oracle Apps.
    thanks all
    adam

    Adam,
I have not implemented an push event adapter with Oracle. However, I
know the trend that seems to be happening in the industry and I can say
I agree 100% with it's implementation. I am seeing vendors using
Oracle's Advanced queuing features to push events out to other
applications. One interface for AQ is PL/SQL using DBMS_AQ, DBMS_AQADM,
and DBMS_AQELM packages, so you would not have to rewrite your current
business logic. Although I have not done the leg work, logically, this
would be the approach I would take if tasked to implement an Oracle
    event adapter.
For more information register (free) for an account on Oracle Technology
Network (OTN), then go to the following URL:
    http://otn.oracle.com/docs/products/oracle9i/doc_library/release2/appdev.920/a96587/toc.htm
Note: (the url goes to Oracle9i, as I couldn't find the link to 8i, but
8i AQ in will work just as well)
    Cheers,
    Chris

1 TB of harddrive space actually <60€ .. drag'n drop files, done. instant access for future projects.
    1 TB of DVD disk space (4.4GB x 230 pieces, each ~50¢) = ~115€ + hours of work .. hours of re-importing in future use ...
=> I prefer ext. HDD.. 1TB fits ~ 75h miniDV, or 40-60h HiDef imported (using the 'Archive' feature of iM09 much more) ..

  • What is the best approach for combining events?

When I work on a wedding my current workflow involves creating a compound clip for each section of the video (e.g. reception, ceremony, dancing etc). Then I add the compound clip 'sequences' into a single project to add the chapter markers and export to a single master file.
I like the idea of managing each section in a project rather than a compound clip now that projects are part of the library in 10.1, but is there a good way to combine multiple projects (for each section) into a single master project, or would I still need to copy the contents of each project and paste in the master project?
Maybe I am best to continue with my current workflow.

Just saw the discussion title - should have said "What is the best approach for combining projects"?
