What's the blinking green light???

besides to drive me crazy of course. I know when it 's red I have a message, but it's been blinking all night and I had to cover it up only to find this morning it is still alive! What's it mean? How do I shut it off?
Solved!
Go to Solution.

I think it's there to tell you that you're within network coverage.
You can turn it off by going to Options, Screen/Keyboard, and set 'LED Coverage Indicator:' to "Off".

  • What's the little green light next to the camera mean?

    Sometimes it's on; other times its not.  Also:  it's on when I have Mission Control focused on a particular desktop -- or so it seems.

    It means the camera is on and some program is using it.

  • Background contrast on Apps screen & blinking green light

    Newbie here.  The Apps screen had a blue background but is now white and I am unable to read the titles of the icons at the bottom of the screen.  How can I get rid of the white background and return to the blue contrast?
    Additionally the green indicator light is blinking non-stop.  Why is it doing that now when it never did before?
    Thanks!

    Greetings, and welcome to the forums!
    Not sure about an answer to your 1st question, but the blinking green light simply means that your phone is connected to your carrier. I use it just so I know at a glance whether my phone's actually on or not. To disable that blinker, go to Options > Screen/Keyboard > LED Coverage Indicator and change the setting to "off".

  • Desktop won't start; blinking green light

    I have a Compaq Presario SR 1318NX which will not start!?  There is a blinking green light on the back of the power supply; which is normally solid green when 110V AC is plugged into it.  I have tried the trick of holding the start button while plugging in the power cord ..... no help.  I have also opened the case and carefully removed every power cord to all the internal devices ................ the light turns solid green only when I pull the main power from the motherboard!
     Do I need to replace the motherboard?  The troubleshooting site on hp.com would indicate the power supply is OK if the light is solid green.
    Thanks for any suggestions,
    Lou

    My wife's computer has been having the same problem several times. One solution I found that worked before was to unplug the motherboard power cable and the PSU power cable from the back of the PC and then connect the power cable and connect the motherboard power cable while holding down the power button. Scary, to say the least, but it worked, until one day I accidentally flipped the wrong breaker and then spend two hours trying the same solution with no luck and Googling again. And here is what I found. This is the simplest yet crudest solution. It’s easy and non invasive and it doesn’t matter how tech savvy you are. Take a blow dryer and turn it on to blow air at the back of the power supply for a couple minutes. When you see the light turn green you’re all set. It's worked for me after it worked for a hundred others, maybe more. See the testimonials on this site: http://talk19.wordpress.com/2008/01/13/hp-m7088d-power-supply-led-blinks-green/. It’s a shame that nothing like this appears on any HP site. So don’t waste your money on a new MoBo or PSU. All you need is your wife’s hair drier.

  • I have lost the amber/green light indicator on AirPort Express.  How canI get it back?

    How can i get the amber/green light indicator on the AirPort Express.  It has stopped working.

    If I do a factory reset, will I have to reset the network configuration?
    Yes, but based on what you are telling us, I doubt that the device will restart after you try this. You have tested with other AC wall jacks, correct?
    I just purchased the unit in April this year, it would be very soon to have to replace it, especially since I don't think I kept the receipt...
    Most stores keep a record of purchases. Otherwise, Apple support can look at the serial number and know approximately when the device was sold. You should have no problem getting a replacement, I would imagine.

  • How do I select the AX green light to flash on data?

    I am using Airport Utility 6.2 on a MBA in a network consisting of a 4th Gen AE extended by a 1st Gen AX and I cannot seem to find the option to change the AX green light to flasj on data. What am I missing?

    AirPort Utility 6.2 does not provide this type of feature.
    If you install AirPort Utility 5.6, you could use that version to set up the AirPorts to flash green on activity. AirPort Utility 5.6 was designed to run on the Lion operating system.  You will need to use a workaround mentioned in the link below if you want to install AirPort Utility 5.6 on Mountain Lion, since Apple's installler will not allow you to do this.
    This is not supported by Apple. It does work for me as well as others, but there is no way to predict whether it might work for you.

  • What does the flashing yellow light mean on my airport express?

    what does the flashing yellow light mean on my airport express?

    Open AirPort Utility, the application that you used to configure the AirPort Express and click Manual Setup.
    Click directly on the word "Status" (2nd line) and a window will open to tell you why the Express is complaining. What is the message?
    It might be a notification that an update is available for your Express.

  • What is the little red light?

    What is the little red light next to the ear speaker on the iPhone 5? It's very hard to see unless in a very dark room and it goes off when I lock my phone.

    I saw a forum saying that was what it was. I felt that if that was so that it would stay on even when my phone is locked? Also there are multiple reports of people knowing for sure that there is no water contact with their phone and they still see the light.

  • What does the flashing yellow light mean?

    What does the yellow flashing light on the time capsule mean ? I can't find my manual.

    Straight from the user guide...
    Flashing amber: Your Time Capsule can’t establish a connection to the network orthe Internet, or is encountering a problem. Make sure you haveinstalled AirPort Utility and use it to get information about whatmight cause the status light to flash amber. See “If Your TimeCapsule Status Light Flashes Amber” on page 29.
    For more information about why the light is flashing, open AirPort Utility, select yourTime Capsule, and then choose Manual Setup from the Base Station menu. Click BaseStation Status to display information about the flashing light.

  • Blinking green light and then orange and green at the same time...

    I have an Ipod shuffle that was working good before and I don't know why I let it one month and after when I connected it to the computer Windows and Itunes didn't recognized it. It seems to function good because I can listen the songs that were before in the Ipod, and when I don't have battery I connect it to the computer and it seems to charge because after I have battery. The only thing is that when I connect it I don't listen that windows recognize it (like when I connect my USB key) and Itunes neither. Moreover there is a green light blinking two seconds and after green and orange at the same time (little lights) during one second. I can't restore it because it doesn't appear in Itunes.
    Do you know what can do that???
    Thx

    Faites ceci:

  • What makes the Magsafe charging light remain dim (VERY PALE GREEN)?

    It is mentioned in threads going back to 2006 so the Magsafe charge indicator clearly has a *PALE GREEN* state -- in addition to amber, (bright) green, and off. Does anybody know what that *PALE GREEN* is supposed to indicate?
    I can't get to an Apple Store so I need to MacGyver a short-term solution for this pale green light that comes with the following symptoms:
    The 2 month-old battery in my 2 year-old MBP stopped charging.
    The laptop runs off the battery as normal wen unplugged.
    When Magsafe is connected it runs off the adapter, but:
    -- battery life doesn't increase;
    -- the menu icon says "Calculating" (hour after hour);
    -- none of the 5 charging lights on the battery come on;
    -- the charging light on Magsafe remains a very dim green ... so pale, in fact, that I thought it was OFF until nightfall.
    I have followed all the advice found in the forum so far:
    -- reset the SMC and PRAM;
    -- cleaned the magsafe port and plug;
    -- tested the pin springs;
    -- unplugged the magsafe from the wall socket for 60 seconds;
    -- removed/reseated the battery;
    -- tested the socket with another appliance
    How can I get the (bright) lights back?

    Does anybody know what that PALE GREEN is supposed to indicate?
    It indicates a hardware problem of some sort. Most likely a bad power adapter. Less likely, but still possible, a bad left I/O board, and even less likely, but remotely possible, a bad logic board.
    Unfortunately, there's no "MacGyver-ish short-term solution", unless you can somehow build yourself a new AC adapter with paperclips and chewing gum. Barring that, you'll need to call AppleCare if you can't get to an Apple Store.
    Wish I had better news, but you did a great job of trying all the relevant troubleshooting steps.
    Hope this helps...

  • My .5tb Time Capsule's orange light is flashing. The internet and everything utelse is working fine, and I'm all backed up, so howcome it doesn't show the solid green light? What should I do?

    The orange light has been flashing for a couple days, and even if I unplug everything (Time Capsule & modem) and plug it all in again, still the flashing orange light. I'm sure it should be solid green. The internet connection seems to be working fine, so I'm wondering what's happening. What should I do?

    I don't think Apple will want it.. you can sell it on ebay etc.. but it is not worth a lot.
    Your TC needs a new power supply but it is now uneconomic to fix them. Apple do not supply any parts for their repair network.
    If you want to repair it yourself you can ..

  • Blinking Green Light! Mount & Unmount on Intel Mac mini

    Hi all.
    This is my sister's iPod shuffle, lat night she plugged into her new Intel Mac mini Core Duo, and the shuffle mounts, everything appears to be in working order, she said today she still listened to it.
    Just now she accidently plugged the shuffle while in our Dad's account (on the Mac mini as well), then seemed like "all well broke loose", this is what she told me, first iTunes was not responsive, colour wheel, so she restarted but only arrived at the blank desktop and only the shadow of the Top Menu Bar
    I reset the iPod shuffle, was successful in plugging it in, quit iTunes (all in her own account now) and update the shuffle software.
    When inside iTunes, once I started Autofill, it suddenly unmounted by itself, followed by the red exclamation error message when you accidently remove an external device unproperly.
    When I tried plugging in again, it refuses to mount. Just blinking Green, or pull out again, blinking Yellow.
    Now I plug it into my own iMac G5, and it mounts and is blinking slowly with yellow light, what seems to be normal charging.
    Has this something got to do with the Intel Mac??
    Thanks and cheers

    This probably has nothing to do with the Mini, but everything to do with the Shuffle. Like all flash memory, it is susceptible to damage if unplugged at the wrong time.
    For the shuffle, you cannot remove it while it is updating or in Disk Mode. This warning is presented in the User's Guide and is repeated in several other places throughout the Support pages as well.
    The general rule is: If it's blinking amber, don't unplug it before you unmount it. Unmounting can be done either in iTunes or in the Finder.
    About all you can do, given the symptoms you're seeing, is try to Restore it. See the instructions in the User's Guide and/or on the iPod Shuffle Support Page.

  • Why do i get a blinking green light on my airport?

    My airport keeps blinking a green light, and my airport utility does not detect a configured airport even though it is plugged in. what should I do?

    Please try a factory default reset on the AirPort Extreme as follows:
    Pull the power cord from the AirPort
    Wait a minute
    Hold in the reset button on the AirPort first, and keep holding it in for an additional 8-10 seconds while you simultaneously plug the power back into the AirPort
    Release the reset button after the hold period and allow a full minute for the AirPort to restart.
    If the AirPort is operational, it will display a solid amber light for about 30 seconds, then the light will turn to blinking amber.
    If you still have no power light after you try the reset a few times, the AirPort has unfortunately very likely failed and will need to be replaced.
    If you do have an Apple Store near you, take the AirPort to them to let them have a look. If the AirPort has an external power supply "brick", sometimes that is the culprit and new power supply will get things going again.
