What's the difference in current iMac graphics cards

I'm not really "up" on graphics cards, assuming that $++ = better performance what I'm wondering is how and when that difference becomes useful and noticeable.
As we're shopping for a couple of new iMacs and are only interested in the 21.5" models would it make a difference to our workflow* to go for the more expensive option (discounting the .2ghz in processor speed).
* Workflow being typical graphic design oriented tasks, indesign, photoshop, dreamweaver etc, no heavy video work or gaming.

you would not notice a difference in .2 GHz.  Since you can not upgrade the graphics cards, it seems like you would benefit from a better one for the use you describe.

  • What's the difference between Gemplus and JCOP card?

    Hi~
    1. I'm using a Card that 'GEMPLUS' is written on golden contact point.
I have to choose a card type among 'GemXpresso 211,211PK,Pro , GemXplore Xpresso' in JCOP Tool.
    Which I have to choose?
Is there any way that what kind of card it is?
    2. What is the difference between JCOP card and Gemplus card?
    Is OS different?
    Anybody tell me the difference.
Any help would be greatly aprreciated

In some cases Gem+ sells JCOP cards under different name.
Generally, JCOP is better (more security, more certificates, tools for free)

  • What is the difference between corporate iTunes gift-cards and regular ones

I have a small business and would like to make a competition and award iTunes gift-cards to the winners.
I saw that there are corporate gift-cards but I don't know what their pros and cons are.
And with regular gift-cards sent by e-mail: do the recipients receive my e-mail address or is it a no-reply e-mail?
    Thanks for the help.

There are no functional differences that would affect the end user. I don't think there's any difference at all in the cards, actually, just the way you buy and the quantities you can purchase. See:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/corporatesales/
As to emailed codes sent through this program, I'm not sure if the recipient would see your email address. Call iTunes Corporate Sales and they should be able to tell you.
    Regards.

  • What us the difference of partition 1 and current in disk utility?

    Hi everyone,
I bought a WD my passport slim , wanna use half for timemachine n half for file storage, but now only wanna for TM.
I formated it by the erase function in disk utility, n then I click the Inbutton, n it show that partition is zero, why? Since there has one partition why it show zero?
But in the partition tab, it  showed "current" n there has 1 partition and more to choose from, I wondering what is the difference between "current" and 1 partition , what I should do before I make the whole hard drive for TM, if I make one partition for TM n other for file storage will my hard drive become unstable?
BTW, if I select the drive, the partition an remain but if I choose the partition of drive ,the partition tab disappear does this normal?
And also if I format the hard dive to hfs+ encrypted the RAID, erase restore tab will disappear too in disk utility, does this normal too?

But in the partition tab, it  showed "current" n there has 1 partition and more to choose from, I wondering what is the difference between "current" and 1 partition , what I should do before I make the whole hard drive for TM, if I make one partition for TM n other for file storage will my hard drive become unstable?
Take a screenshot and post it here.
It's very difficult to understand your post.

  • What is the difference between the Intel HD Graphics 5000 and the Intel Iris Pro Graphics in  the current iMacs

What is the difference between the Intel HD Graphics 5000 and the Intel Iris Pro Graphics in  the current iMacs?

I am assuming you are talking about PPC Macs? Those haven't been manufactured or sold in years (since early 2006 I believe) when Apple started using Intel processors. There are still some apps which run on PPC code only which makes them incompatible with the last three Mac operating systems.
There are different Applecare products depending on which Mac product you buy, although the coverage is about the same (except for iOS devices).

  • What is the difference between iMac and Mac pro?

I want to buy an iMac but have saw the mac pro.  What is the difference?  Do you need an iMac to get a mac pro or does it come with a monitor?

Yes, exactly as Kappy has stated.
The iMac is an "all-in-one" computer similar to an HP Envy, or HP Touchsmart.
    HP Envy Here: http://tinyurl.com/bb-hp-envy
    HP Touchsmart Here: http://tinyurl.com/bb-hp-touchsmart
These are an "all-in-one" machine, where the CPU (central processing unit), mainboard, and graphics display adapter are all embedded onto one board, and it is built-in to the monitor display case.
So you just have what looks like a "thicker" monitor on your desk and your keyboard connects to this "all-in-one" computer.  (and actually the newest 2012 iMacs are not really that "thick" at all, and it does look pretty nice/thin/sleek).
The disadvantage to an "all-in-one" is that it's not easily upgradeable.  You can't change out the graphics cards, or install new PCIe expansion cards (faster network cards, RAID adapter, etc.), can't add extra internal hard drives (i.e. 4 internal hard drives), etc.
The Mac Pro is a standalone computer.  It requires an additional monitor/display.  The advantage of having a Mac Pro is that it is upgradeable (you can get more powerful graphics cards in the future if you need better 3D rendering power) and it has far more memory slots, so it can be expandeable to I believe 128GB of RAM (whereas I believe the iMac might be 32GB of ram?)
    iMac memory expansion here:  http://www.apple.com/why-mac/compare/
Mac Pro Memory expansion here:  http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Mac-Pro-Memory#1333-memory
Also the iMac is a much thinner device, and you can't separate the display from the CPU (they are an "all-in-one" device) so you can't upgrade or change the primary display, but you can add a second display).
With the Mac Pro, you can add additional graphics cards, and you can power up to twelve displays (if you wish).  You also have a much more powerful processor on the Mac Pro (one quad-core, or up to two 6-Core Intel Xeon processors).  So the Mac Pro a much more powerful machine.
The iMac is just a nice cute/thin desktop display (all-in-one), but with a quad-core processor it's still a fairly fast/decent machine.
If you are doing heavy 3D graphics rendering or gaming, or graphics design (3D CAD, etc.) then I would probably go with something more powerful like a Mac Pro, since you can get better graphics cards, and the Mac Pro will run much cooler (as you're trying to do massive rendering).
    > Do you need an iMac to get a mac pro or does it come with a monitor?
No, you don't need an iMac for a Mac Pro (they are two separate and different computers), but yes you do need an external monitor display if you buy a Mac Pro.
Any 1920x1080p monitor/display with an HDMI input will be sufficient for using with a Mac Pro.

  • Quick question: what is the difference between graphic and movie clips?

What is the difference between the two symbols: graphic and movie clips? They both contain frames..?

    movie clips can have
instance names : so they can be controlled via actionscript
filters applied : drop shadow, glow, blur, color adjust etc
blend modes applied : difference, screen, lighten, darken, etc.
    3d transformations
    graphics:
    none of the above
the only real practical reason to use a graphic is the reason jdehaan stated. a graphics internal animation can be scrubbed via the main timeline. graphics will only advance when the main timeline advances. when the main timeline stops.. graphics stops.
movieclips on the otherhand are said to run independent of the main timeline. so you can have a MAIN timeline with one frame only and the movieclip's interior animation will run constantly.
also via the properties panel you can tell a graphic to stay stuck on a certain frame or loop a set number of times.
always use movieclips unless you have a reason not too. as kglad said it will save you and others a lot of hurt in the future.

  • Graphics card: What's the difference between NVS and FX?

I am looking at two graphics cards online for a D20 workstation. One is NVIDIA Quadro 256MB NVS 295, and the other is NVIDIA Quadro 256MB FX380. My question is, what's the difference? They are both the same size, at 256MB, but I'm not familiar enough with graphics to know what the difference is between and FX380 and NVS 295. I've tried looking around online, with no luck.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I would assume the differences come in what you are going to use the card for, correct?

quadro NVS cards are meant for 2D business graphics and driving multiple displays.   most NVS cards run silent as they don't have an active fan -- only a heatsink.
quadro FX cards are meant for 3D, CAD, multimedia, and heavy graphics processing.
you can visit nvidia's site to learn more...
    NVS: http://www.nvidia.com/page/quadronvs.html
    FX: http://www.nvidia.com/page/quadrofx_family.html
if you need specific recommendations then we'll need to know more about what you do (or intend to do) with your system.

  • What's the difference between BOUNDS and SIZE?

I have a decoration (picture) on the panel.
Thru the DECORATIONS[ ] property, I get a refernce to it.
I put a property node on that refernce.
I have the write-only BOUNDS property : Help says "Max bounding area of the object in terms of width and height in pixels".
I have the read/write SIZE property: Help says "Bounding area of the object in terms of width and height in pizels".
So what's the difference? All my tests show them identical in all circumstances.
I thought maybe the BOUNDS was the original size (and thus you couldn't change it), and the SIZE was the current size (which you could change), but that's not the case. When I change the SIZE, the report BOUNDS matches the new SIZE.
I don't see any other objects with both a BOUNDS and a SIZE property. Graphs have a DRAW AREA SIZE, but that's clearly a different meaning.
    Clues, anyone?

I really have no idea why they made the Bounds property read only. Every object (or at least almost every one) has a property which allows you to change its size dynamically, but for each object this is found in a different place. For graphic controls, it's "Draw Area Size", for booleans, it would be "Button Size", for simple numerics and strings it would be "Text Size", for sliders it would be "Housing Size" and so on. The only reason I can think of for why the Bounds property is read only is because it would make it too hard or unpredictable to know how the control would resize because the bounds property includes the label, caption, index controls, plot displays and so on and it would change depending on what you display.
There are several annoying things about this -
When you set a size, it's not the size of the entire control, but only of part of it and your controls might not come out the size you wish.
You have to hunt for the relevant property.
You can't use a generic property for all objects, meaning that if you don't know the type of control in advance, you will need additional code to handle this.

  • What is the difference between MacBook pro 2011 and 2012

What is the difference between MacBook pro 2011 and 2012

understanding that at the time of the question, there has not been any Macbook Pro 2012, now it is later and there is.
    The difference is:
-CPU being used (2011 models: Sandy Bridge, 2012 models: Ivy Bridge)
    -Graphics (2011: intel 3000 + on 15"/17" ATI, 2012: intel 4000 + on 5"/17" nvidia Geforce 650M)
    -USB (2011: USB2.0 only, 2012: USB3.0)
    -Bluetooth (2011. 2.1 + EDR, 2012: 4.0)
Ivy Bridge CPUs are smaller and are a little bit more energy-efficient.
Other than that, currently the devices are not much different in respect to performance (Apple's graphics driver performance is known to increase during upgrades, though, so the performance gap may widen up)

  • SL Server Version - What's the Difference?

My Mac is running Lion, but was hoping to run Snow Leopard in a virtual machine (to run Power PC apps). I was told that I need the Server version to run in an emulator.
    My 2 questions are:
    1) I bought the client version online... can I return it at an Apple Store and then purchase the Server version?
    2) (My main question): What is the difference between the Server version and client version?
I feel embarrased- I should know this, but have never run a server version of Mac OS. Thanks!

  • What is the difference between the Airport Extreme Cards A-1026 & A1027?

I need to get an Airport Extreme Card for my for my G4, 1.25, 800 FW, MDD.
I am unfortunatly very much on a budget. I am therefore, shopping eBay. I am seeing two different model Airport Extreme Cards which are apparently specified for my Mac. They are the A 1026 and the A 1027.
What is the difference between the two cards.
If it helps, the exact specs for my ubnit are here

    Hi-
    Welcome to Discussions!
    Airport Extreme A1026 (standard card)
For Mac mini, All Aluminum PowerBook G4s, All iBook G4 laptops, All PowerMac G5s, Power Mac G4 (FW 800), (Mirrored Drive Door 2003), (Mirrored Drive Doors), eMac (2005), (ATI Graphics), (USB 2.0), iMac (17-inch Flat Panel, 1GHz), (USB 2.0), iMac G5 (17-inch), (20-inch)
Apple Service Part #: 661-2755, 825-6235-A, 603-3575The AirPort Extreme Card can be installed only in computers that are AirPort Extreme ready.
Airport Extreme A1027 appears to be a card more specifically(?) for the EU, Australia, New Zealand, non- US markets. The only documentation I could find of it, is at Apple UK, for a letter of compliance to EU standards.
Won't go wrong with the A1026, but can't confirm compatibility (or not) with the A1027.......
