What's the fastest my AE will go with wireless?

I have the option to upgrade my internet service to a fiber optic cable and get 120Mbps coming in. Can my Airport Extreme (n) handle all this speed wirelessly?
Will I need to run an ethernet to my Mac to get the speed I'm paying for?
What about my Apple TV?
Any help will be appreciated.
I do not have the latest AE with simultaneous dual band (g & n) but the model right before it. 802.11n (gigabite internet).

Is this the reading that Airport Utility is giving when it says 'Rate'?
The 'Rate" value in the AirPort Utility is a near-instaneous measure of the data rate or throughput. Its value should never exceed the maximum bandwidth appropriate for the radio mode.
When I tack my Wireless Clients I get a graph of all the clients with their respective signal db and noise db, and the next coloumn is 'Rate'.
Slight correction ... the 'Signal" and 'Noise' values are in dBm, not dB. dBm is a measure of absolute power output. An increase in 10 dBm = 10x increase in output power.
On the other hand, dB is a relative power measurement, typically associated measuring Radio Frequency (RF) losses. The Near field (1 Meter) distance results in a 40 dB loss. Beyond Near Field, every 2x increase in distance = ~10 dB loss.
Putting this all into perspective, received strength depends on output power of the transmitter and the distance from the receiver.
As an example:
The AEBSn transmits at a maximum output power of 20 dBm. If a wireless client is 32 meters from the AEBSn, its received signal is: +20 dBm - 90 dB = -70 dBm
I'm getting 120. Does that mean 120 Mbps (mega bits per second)?
Yes.

  • DKA790GX Platinum - What's the best card that will work with hybrid crossfire?

Hi everyone. I know this board is a bit old now but I've set it up for my kids to play oldish games and it occurred to me that video cards from that era might be inexpensive these days. What's the best possible card to use with the on-board card for its hybrid crossfire? Would it be better to just get a separate standalone card? If so what's the best that will work with this board? I'm completely out of the loop these days on tech and have no idea what will even be compatible anymore.

Good news! I resolved my graphics issues without buying a new card. It all came down to a little logic. It used to work just fine. The game it's installed off the same disc as before, and there us no noticeable change in the install media. The hardware has not changed unless there has been some sort of electrical damage I cannot see. I had however updated my drivers many times over the last few years, and always from the AMD website.
I installed the latest MSI drivers for my onboard graphics and voila, it works!
All graphical glitches are now gone, though it runs a but slower.
I may still buy a new card. I'm favouring the HD4870x2 as the top of my motherboard's era or the slightly newer HD5770 which some reviews say is equivalent in performance. The latter uses the same GPU and shaders as the 6770 and is considerably cheaper.
If I go with NVidia it seems the best card in my price range is the 440GT.
Thanks, everyone, for all the advice!
i'd say the 790GX chipset would run a saphire radeon HD5770 card fine i have 1 of them on a different maufactures board that uses the AMD 690GX chipset and i have put both my HD5770's in that with crossfire on and had no issues at all just to try it out!
and the AMD 690GX is a lower more old chipset then the one your board has so i wouldnt see any issues with the board not accepting the HD 5770 cards at all!
i like the saphire branded ones better as they run much cooler and quieter then a stock card!

  • Getting K7T Turbo limited edition what is the fastest processor it will run

As the subject sugests my friend is about to give me his motherboard, ram and cpu the motherboard is a K7T Turbo-R (I'm assured this is the limited edition one) but he only has a slow old 1ghz processor on it. I've looked at the bios upgrades and I'm not sure what the fastest chip is that I can fit with the latest bios upgrade as it's written in funny english. It says: Support AMD XP 2400+ & 2600+ (K7T Turbo2 only) does this mean both chips are only supported on the turbo 2 or just the 2600+. My educated guess tells me that I would be able to fit a 2400+ as this is a 133/266 FSB processor but not the 2600+ as this is 333mhz. Please can someone help me I'm just starting to learn about computers and I don't really know what I'm talking about!

    Hello,
If you are sure it is the limited edition then

  • What is the fastest/ best DNS to use with Infinity...

I'm using a seperate DHCP server in my home LAN which gives me the ability to asign different DNS servers. Ive previously used Open DNS which seems a little slow, so I'm currently passing the routers IP address as the DNS server which works fine, but I suspect it is sub optimal. Based on the experience of you folks, what are the best/fastest DNS servers to use in conjunction with Infinity (Specifically 100 Mb FTTP)?

  • What's the fastest way to transfer files with Migration Assistant?

I am trying to transfer everything from an iMac 21.5 over Ethernet with Migration Assistant and it is 20+ Hours estimated transfer time. Once I strt can I switch to Thunderbolt?  Everything I've read states this is the fastest means.
    Thanks!

Thanks. Through further investigation my old iMac does not have a Thunderbolt port so that's out of the question. I think it was going over wifi instead of Ethernet so I disabled my router and am now migrating from Time Machine via USB 2.0. Estimated around 3+ hours now.
Any idea how to get my old iMac out of migration mode?

  • What is the fastest way to familiarize oneself with FrameMaker 9?

I'm a retired tech writer (manufacturing) returning after 9 yrs away. I've just loaded the Technical Communication Suite 2 (Whoee!) and have to get FrameMaker back in my head.  Any ideas on how to get there fastest?  Thanks from an old retread!

    Alan,
Welcome back to Framedom. The core functions haven't changed much in unstructured FM. Though with the new FM9, you'll get a different interface. There are a number of online video resources available from Adobe that will give you an overview of the interface and other aspects (primarily structured/DITA) . See the various videos and tutorials at: http://www.adobe.com/support/framemaker/
For self-paced tutorials, there's an excellent wiki from Scriptorium (for older versions, but good for probably 90+% of the functionality that you need) at http://wiki.scriptorium.com/tiki-index.php

  • What is the fastest CPU I could put in Satellite Pro L20

This is a desperate request for help!!
The Football Manager 2010 is coming out soon and my laptop needs to be up to scratch.
I know I need to upgrade it because Football Manager 2009 nearly killed it!
At the moment I have 1.4ghz Intel Celeron M chip and 704mb of ram.
What is the fastest chip I could put in? I've done a bit of research and found I can only have 2gb of ram
The laptop is in perfect working order so I don't want to buy a new one just for the sake of it and its served me well over the last 4 years - I've dropped it enough times! Just need to speed it up a bit!

Hmm... Do you really want to upgrade the pretty old Satellite Pro L20? I mean new notebooks are not so expensive anymore and I doubt that you will get a strong performance boost with new CPU.
Anyway, in your notebook is only the preinstalled CPU pretested and nobody is able to say what other CPUs will run. But you should look on the specifications for other Satellite Pro L20 notebooks. If another L20 is equipped with faster CPU, it should also work in yours. You can try it but in worst case it will not work.
    Good luck!

  • What is the fastest way of getting data?

With a scanning electron microscope, I need to scan a 512*512 pixel area with a pixel repetition of 15000 (two channels), meaning averaging over 15000 measurements. Simultaneously I have to adjust the voltage output for every pixel.
I am using a 6111E Multifunction I/O board in a 800MHz P3. The whole task has do be done as fast as possible (not more than 20 minutes altogether).
What is the fastest way to get this huge amount of data with averaging and output in between? (E.g. do I use buffered read with hardware triggering or is there a faster way?)

Using the NI-DAQ API (not LabView) will give you a significant amount of more control over what happens and when to the data stream; which translates to a more efficient program. But you need to program in C/C++ or Delphi then. The Measurement Studio provides ActiveX controls that are like the LabView ones for C&C++ (theyre slow like the LabView ones though not a lot you can do about the Windows GDI).
What are you trying to sample 15000 times? The 512*512 pixel field?
Thats almost 15Gigs of data! And it means you need to process data at 12.8MB/s to finish it in 20 minutes. I hope you know C, x86 assembly and MMX.
I would setup a huge circular buffer (NI-DAQ calls them double buffers), about 30 seconds worth or so, to use with SCAN_Start. Then I would proces
s the actual buffer the card is DMAing the data into with a high priority thread. Progressively sum the scan values from the 16bit buffer (the samples are only 12 bit, but the buffer should still be 16bits wide) into a secondary buffer of DWORDs the size of the screen (512*512), and youll need two of those, one for each channel. Once the 15000 scans are complete, convert each entry into a float divide by 15000.0f, and store it in a third buffer of floats.
If you wish to contract this out, send me an email at [email protected]

  • What's the fastest way to share files live between 2 Macs in the same room?

Please can I have some advice on this scenario?
I'll need to share HD video footage between 2 new Mac Pros in the same room. 1 Mac will be used to upload the footage and the other to edit it using FCP. The footage can be stored either on hard drives in the edit machine or on desktop hard drives connected to the edit machine (or if there is a better option I'm open to advice).
What is the fastest way of sharing the files and what is the simplest way?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

What is the fastest way of sharing the files and what is the simplest way?
Fastest way? a fiber channel SAN connecting the two machines to a common fiber-channel based storage array. Can't beat it for performance, but it comes at a cost (think $20K as a starting point, depending on the amount of storage you need).
Simplest way? Some external media (thumb drive, external hard drive, etc.) that you shuffle between the two machines
Intermediate: a NAS-based storage box on your network, although be aware that real-time editing of HD video can overwhelm many low-end NAS boxes.

  • What is the FASTEST graphic card on AGP dual-proc G5?

    I am running a Dual-proc PowerMac 2.3 GHz under OS 10.4.7.
I had a Radeon XT800XT graphics card; I "had" it, since it started after 6 months of usage to freeze my G5. Just isolated the card after a lots of testing as the trouble maker (due to startup problems I thought first the startup disk is defect, but it was not).
Since I need to replace and Aperture performance was not that great with the XT800...:
What is the fastest card I can put in?
    Is there a 512MB option?
The card needs also to support the 30" ACD.

Thank You ds store for your XT800 advice.
This was my concern, yes, the XT800 is still the best I can do.
I have done all of the other upgrades:
    - I have 6GB memory
    - I have a GSATA 500Mb Raid-0 with the Firmtek card you mention (IO with 130MB/s)
    - ...and the XT800.
That means I will have to straight replace the XT800 with another one.
Regarding Aperture performance: Given my already well equipped G5, its really Apple's duty to further improve algorithms in Aperture (or some of the graphics and raw file algorithms in OSX) and not me to throw hardware at it.
If you use adjustments like Highlights/Shadows and zoom into 100% image view in Apoerture, you start seeing the spinning ball.
And I only shoot 8 megapixel files with the Canon-1DII. What if you have 1DS files with 16MP or - god forbid - Aperture would support a professional digital back with 22MP or more...

I am purchasing a laptop with a 4k screen (3200x1800) resolution, will Lightroom work at these levels? what is the highest resolution LR will support?

As Rob has pointed out there is no maximum resolution that LR supports, but performance decreases as resolution increases. I'm using an i7-860 quad core system with a 1920 x1080 (2.1 Megapixel) monitor and LR runs well. A 3200 x1800 (5.8 Megapixel) monitor will require ~2.75 x more processing to render the real-time loupe image in the Develop module. Some people have reported sluggish screen updating when making adjustments in the Develop module with even lower resolution monitors such as 2560x1440. Here's a post that discusses the issue:

What is the FASTEST Internet Browser for OSX? (2014 Edition)
I'm a tech junkie, I love everything about technology.. especially FAST and EFFICIENT technology..
I am currently using Google Chrome, and have nothing bad so say about it.. I like that I can "sign in" to Google Chrome pretty much anywhere (including my iPhone 5s), and instantly have access to all of my Bookmarks and Bookmark folders..
I have seen a bunch of benchmark tests testing a bunch of available internet browsers on OSX.. however, the results seem a bit inconclusive and varying, and some that even support the notion that Safari is now FASTER than Google Chrome.. I'm not sure whether or not to believe it, and I don't really have the time/energy to conduct a series of tests on my own..
What do you guys think? Is Google Chrome still considered the "fastest" when it comes to browsing/downloading?

Has anyone used or have any opinions about Lightning?  I found some positive reviews around, and granted they all mention it's unrefined, they all seem to think it is the fastest.  Great as that may be, before I fork out the $2 I would like to get some more info regarding privacy and security.
