What's the highest quality compression method?

I've got several .flac files which total just over 2GB. I'd like to get them onto two 700MB CDs. My CD player is 15 years old, plays .aiff files but I've no idea what other formats. I've got xAct if that helps.

Sorry, unless your CD-Player can play MP3-CDs (which it can't because 15 years ago that was unheard of), you'll need much more CDs. It will only accept CD-Audio, which is roughly twice the size of FLAC, as that is already redundancy coded, which CD-Audio does not support. So you'll probably need about 6 CDs to be able to play them in your CD-Player.
Hope this helps.

  • What's the highest quality audio format to import CD?

I've a 40 GB iPod. the system default to AAC. But i'm planning to buy a Shure e4c ear-plug and want to make sure i've the best quality audio format recording in the ipod.
could someone tell me what audio format yields the best audio quality to import CD? i'm only used less than 20GB of the ipod.
so i don't mind using the best audio format which may take the most space.

Simple answer: Apple Lossless. You will hear the song at the same audio quality level as on the CD--at about half the size.

  • What's the highest quality iphone 5 wireless headphone solution?

Is there a better solution than an aptx dongle on my iphone 5 paired with aptx headphones? the information out there is confusing, like apple supports AAC, bluetooth supports AAC, but is there such a thing as using AAC bluetooth with say spotify? or does it mean you can only stream an AAC file through bluetooth? basically all im trying to do is get the best quality i can with wireless headphones, and its worth noting i do almost exlusively use spotify on extreme quality which (they claim) is 320 kbit/s, so i dont need lossless, just something that will allow spotify to sound the best. Aptx seems like a good way to go but i'd rather not spend extra for the dongle and have to use that if theres a better option. Right now im using a pair of bluetooth headphones and a2dp, which is ok but theres still a noticeable difference in quality compared to the 3.5mm cord. (theyre syllable g15's).
So in summary, just need a wireless solution for wireless headphones with quality equal to or better than spotify, preferably with buying/using the least ammount of hardware possible. Thanks to all who read looking forward to answers!

You can use these movie and graphic formats in iDVD:
Most video or image files supported by QuickTime (see the list of unsupported QuickTime formats below).
    High definition video (HDV).
    16:9 widescreen formats.
AAC, MP3, and AIFF audio files.
MPEG-4 and iSight video imported as an iMovie HD movie.
High definition video that you add to your project is converted to work with the format of your project. iDVD supports using 16:9 widescreen video, so that when your DVD plays on a DVD player that supports widescreen format, the footage appears in its original aspect ratio.
The following video and image formats are NOT supported in iDVD:
    Copyrighted or protected videos.
Movies saved in thousands of colors using the "none" compression setting in iMovie.
48-bit color images (16 bits per color). To use source files in one of these formats in iDVD, save them in a supported format.
Aurora uncompressed files. For best results, export Aurora clips as DV-format video before importing them into iDVD.
QuickTime VR, MPEG-1 or MPEG-2, Flash, streaming or encrypted movies, or QuickTime spanned movies. You can't add MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 files to an iDVD project because they don't contain standard video tracks.
QuickTime Fast Start movies. (Fast Start movies are intended for Internet playback.) When saving a QuickTime movie for use with iDVD, click the Options button in the QuickTime Export dialog and make sure that the "Prepare for Internet Streaming" checkbox is not selected.
Note: You can add any file to the DVD-ROM portion of your DVD so viewers can copy the file onto another computer.

  • Whats the highest quality compression filter?

    Hey all:
I am new to Encore, but was able to burn a Quicktime file into a DVD, and have it autostop, which works fine.
Problem is, all the colors are blown away, as though the highlights and midtone levels were jacked up. It looks real bad.
Someone to me that Sorenson 3 was not the right compression to use when burning a DVD, and that I should use the DV/DVDCPRO-NTSC compression instead; he said it would look bad on my monitor, but would burn to DVD the best.
Well, I just did it, and it looks just as bad. :P
    Anybody got any help, please?
    Thanks in advance,
    Phil

Personally I always use the PP export to MPEG2-DVD settings, but that is necessary since I use 5.1 AC3 for audio, which Encore does not handle. So what I do all the time is use a bitrate calculator to figure the correct settings for my project. For instance I am currently rendering a 70 minute timeline with 3.1-7.8-9 2 pass VBR settings and 320 Kbps 5.1 audio AC3 with 200 MB overhead for Encore, menu's, trailers, etc.
The reason for my advice to let Encore handle it is twofold. If you have no need for 5.1 sound why complicate your life? Second, if the OP gives the impression that he/she is not really familiar with all of these settings like GOP length, CBR versus 2-pass VBR, min-target-max or the use of a bitrate calculator, I suggest to let Encore do the job for you.
I am stubborn and think that I know it better than Encore, so that is why my personal workflow deviates from the suggestion I sometimes give to others.

  • Money no object, what are the highest quality mpeg2 encoders on the market?

in house we have cinemacraft sp, compressor, procoder, sonic SD-500, and a zapex board.
All have pros and cons, none of them are perfect. We are looking for the perfect encoder. This encoder will be either hardware or software and will provide us with the best possible image no matter how busy a scene is. Ideally this encoder can function faster than 2x real time.
Does anybody have some insight on this perfect encoder, or what the hollywood process is?
We will spend the money for the quality and consistancy.
    thanks,
    Ryan

    Hi Ryan,
Well there is no perfect encoder but the two top of my list are Sony Vizaro (Hardware, Various Configs) & Cinema Craft Xtream Presto.
Most places make do with an SD-2000, CCE SP or better and maybe another encoder. Creator or Spruce hardware maybe but there are a few others floating about...

  • Is microsoft avi the highest quality format to export an avi file in premiere pro cs4?

    Hello,
I exported an avi file in premiere pro cs4 in media encoder using Microsoft avi format but the quality turned out poor on dvd, what's the highest quality format I can use?
    Please help
    Thanks
    Elio

    Elio,
As has been stated, DV-AVI is not the format FOR a DVD-Video. However, it can be used (and often is) as a transport medium into a DVD authoring program, like Encore.
Can you please outline your workflow from PrPro to the final DVD, and is it a DVD-Video (will contain MPEG-2 material in VOB "containers"), or a DVD-Data, that is then played on a computer with something like Windows Media Player, VLC, MediaPlayer Classic HC, etc.?
Good luck, and please let us know exactly what you are doing, and the programs used.

When exporting to a DVD from Final Cut Pro X, what settings are there to make sure you making the highest quality DVD possible?

There have been a lot of recent reports of difficulties sharing to DVD, but haven't been hearing about unreadable disks. Posibly there was an encoding error. Or it could have been bad media (blank disk).
Does it play in your Mac?
What brand of disks are you using?

  • Which DVD to iPod Method (for windows) has the highest quality?

Hi everyone! This is the first thread I have started! *pats himself on back*...
    ...O.K. down to buisness...
Does anyone know or tested which dvd to ipod conversion method is best? I have looked at most of the threads here about the conversion methods, and I was wondering which had the highest quality picture, quickest conversion time, and taks up the least memory. Feel free to post your opinions, but I feel tested responces are more helpful. Thx for your time...

'dvd decrypter' is phenominal. all it essentially does is takes the '.vob. file off the dvd. it takes up alot of space, but the quality is perfect. somewhere on videora.com there is a link... its free too. as for a converter, ive tryed most of them, and totally preferred videora, onyl because it converts any type of file.

  • Burning the highest quality in idvd 9

    Hi,
When burning a disk at the highest quality available in idvd 9, what is the final output resolution? I'd like to get as close to 1080i as possible (knowing that I cannot burn HD without a HD burner and equivalent software). I am curious as to what idvd does to your video and stills. I've been creating HD movies in FCE (1280x720) and using idvd to create slideshows and then burning the project to dvd for playback on my HDTV. My images are HD 1280x720 tifs which I have been importing into idvd for a slideshow. On the final output I notice the images look soft, so was wondering what quality idvd is capable of.

As stated above already iDvd is limited to standard definition. There are no workarounds that I am aware of within iDvd itself. You'll have to think outside of this app if your intention is to go high def and blu-ray or even high def on a standard dvd-r. Forget about playing it back on most macs since apple doesn't currently support Blu-ray playback through its own dvd player app. Your hands are tied unless you choose a third party or an alternate dvd player application to open the file. For example, Roxio's Toast Video Player can do this.

Hope this helps but if not just come on back.

  • Creating the highest quality dvd

I'm making a feature length film for Sundance. It's all shot in 1080i and the sound is in dolby digital. I'm new at all of this. What is the best quality set up for the best quality dvd non-hd? The movie is 1hr 50min. There are no special effects. I have to send it off Aug. 1st. Also, what is the best way to burn it after compression? Should I buy Popcorn or just use iDVD? Thanks for any help.

    Compressor with DVDstudio works best,
however, in Compressor settings tab choose:
    Apple>DVD>DVD Best quality 150 minutes.
This should give you a pretty good result but ...hey, it always depend on the source!
    Give it a go.

  • How do I create the highest quality dvd of an iphoto slideshow?

I have created a large (550 photos) slideshow in iphoto using one of the iphoto templates and added music to the slideshow.  The photos are high quality/large file size photos.  I would like to then combine the iphoto slideshow with an imovie trailer.  When I have gone through through the process of exporting the slideshow out of iphoto and into imovie and then burning a disk with idvd, the quality of the dvd is poor.  I am using the latest versions of iphoto, imovie, and idvd.  I would appreciate any advice on how to produce the highest quality dvd from the slideshow as it is part of a gift recapping a trip.

Here's one approach: First crop the photos to the iDVD size ratio, 4:3.  Export the movie out of iPhoto via the Export button and select Size = Medium or Large.  Remember DVD video format is standard definition only.  All media gets reduced to 640 x 480 before burning to disk.
Don't add it to iMovie as that just adds another layer of compresson/encoding to it.
In iMovie create the trailer and use the Share ➙ Media Browser option.  This produces a better file image than the Share ➙ iDVD option.
In iDVD create a Slideshow and add the trailer from the Media/Movies pane and drag the iPhoto movie after it.
Set transitions to None and slide duration to anything but Manual.  Do not add any audio.
Follow this workflow to help ensure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
If you find that the resulting movie/slideshow extends off the TV screen and looses some of the image you can set the iDVD/Slideshow preferences to Scale Photos to TV Safe Area.
That may add black areas to each side of the movie depending on the size ratio of the TV screen and aspect ratio set in the DVD player.
NOTE: if you have access to a copy of iMovie 6 HD I suggest you use it for your slideshow from photos and the trailer.  It produces the best results with iDVD and allows far better audio control.  If you do have that version just drag the completed iMovie project file into iDVD to avoid another layer of encoding/compression.

  • Printing to DVD at the highest quality possible

Hello out there. I have a question. I'm currently editing a project that was shot on 35mm film telecined full frame (4:3) to DigiBeta and down converted to DVCAM. Durning post we added a 1.85 matte (as he footage was originally composed for 1.85). My main concern is to output this footage at the highest quality possible. (Is FCP's Compression a good tool for this) Also I was wondering if anyone had a link to a discussion where I could find out how to burn a dvd with no menu that continuously loops. I'm currently using the FCP Production Suite with DVD S Studio Pro 4. Thanks
    Erv

If you do a search you can find discussions on both of these topics as they have been discussed over and over, especially the compression one.
