What's the mA Charging Requirement for 2nd Generation? What is the maximum?

It appears that the minimum charging requirement for the 2nd generation is 500ma and the optimum is 1000ma (1A). Can anyone confirm that for me? I can't find any specifications anywhere.
Also, will using a high power USB charger cause any harm to the Touch's charging circuit? I can pick up a USB charger (which is part of an international power adapter kit) that has a rating of 2.5A.
It would be a great way to charge the Touch assuming that it doesn't cause any damage, and the only reason I'm considering it is that it's 70% off at the Circuit City clearance. (R.I.P. CC)
Thanks.

The spec for USB 2.0 high power is a minimum of 500mA.
Also, will using a high power USB charger cause any harm to the Touch's charging circuit?
No.
Electronic devices will only take what current they need.
As an example, the outlets in your house are 15 Amps but none of your electronics draw anywhere near that amount.

By "3rd gen charger" are you referring to the USB cable with the
4 ring audio connector on the other end?
If so, the answer is again NO...

  • What is the best I7 Intel processor to get on the Macbook Pro 15"?  Are these processors 2nd generation processors?  Does it matter?  Should I wait until - when? - for 2nd generation processors to be used?  Does the 2.5 Mh processor make a difference?

I'm about to order a MacBook Pro 15".  I wonder if the I7 processors are 2nd generation or if it matters.  Also, is there significant benefit to getting the 2.4 or 2.5 Ghz processor over the 2.2?  I'm not a gamer or graphics manipulator, but I do look at (not edit) a lot of video for my work, and I typically multi-task, having many applications and internet windows open at once. Also, I will be running Windows for work access and applications.  Of course, I have little idea what makes a difference in my use experience, except I plan to get max RAM and probably the fastest hard drive.  Any advice welcome.

    Steve,
I appreciate your focus on assistance, and thank you for your help.  Couple of follow up questions:  What you said about the new specs suggests that the MacBook Pro line has recently been upgraded with, what, the 2nd gen Intel chips, some other incremental improvements?  So maybe it has paid off to crawl along with my old mac to get the latest tech.  For these kinds of upgrades, I guess Apple doesn't advertise that they have the latest chips (I've seen PC ads touting the 2nd gen chips, and checked out the Intel site, so that's how I became aware) and all?
I'm planning to enjoy this computer for quite some years.  Of course I will get the 3 yr extended warranty.  And I was planning to get the hi res antiglare screen: that seems to be the best of the options.  It looks like one can now get a faster 750 Gb fast drive, instead of having to settle for 500 in the faster version.  The cost does add up, but my feeling was to go for broke and get the best machine I can.  So does getting the faster cpu and hd and max ram (perhaps buying third party) and all make sense, assuming I can afford it when I add everything up, or is it like a moderately good guitar player getting a top of the line guitar he can't really play well enough to warrant it?  (I remember a story about a student under Segovia arriving with a very very expensive guitar when he was still early in the learning process; it may be apocryphal, but story goes that Segovia took the guitar from the student and smashed it to smithereens.  I assume that was not just because the student mistook the instrument for skill in playing it, but perhaps also because he would be too careful with such an expensive instrument, and fail to master it.  Maybe not a perfect analogy, but I could be mislead by seeking the "best barn burner on the block" when what I need is what will work fine for my purposes.) So I think your original response was probably right on in terms of what will actually be of use to me.
    Thanks again,
    David

  • What is the newest OS for 2nd generation ipod touch?

I am looking at buying an iPod touch 2nd Gen just for music purposes. I am mainly going to use it with SiriusXM app. First I wanted to know what is the newest iOS for the ipod touch? Second, I wanted to know if anyone has a 2nd gen ipod touch and is using the SiriusXM app?
    Thank you,
    Matt

Just note that if yo are getting a 3G iPod make sure that your get a 3G. A 2G and 3G look the same on the outside except for the model number on the back
    iPod touch (3rd generation)
iPod touch (3rd generation) features a 3.5-inch (diagonal) widescreen multi-touch display and 32 GB or 64 GB flash drive. You can browse the web with Safari and watch YouTube videos with Wi-Fi. You can also search, preview, and buy songs from the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store on iPod touch.
The iPod touch (3rd generation) can be distinguished from iPod touch (2nd generation) by looking at the back of the device. In the text below the engraving, look for the model number. iPod touch (2nd generation) is model A1288, and iPod touch (3rd generation) is model A1318.

  • HT4623 Will the ios 4.3 software EVER become available for 2nd Generation touch?

Does Apple plan to ever make the ios 4.3 available for the 2nd generation touch?  Many of my apps are not longer working because they require the update.  For example my Facebook app stopped working and there is no alternative app for it.

  • Can I download Angry Birds for 2nd generation

I just got an ipod for my nephew and I was wondering if I can downloan angry birds for the 2nd generation.

Sorry, but what happens when you click on Buy?
If your iPod touch, 2nd generation is up to date, you're on iOS 4, which is more than enough to be ompatile with Angry Birds' minimum requirements for iOS 3.
Make sure you trying to buy the iPhone/iPod touch version, not the iPad version.

  • Where to find  iOS 4.2.1 for 2nd generation - games are not opening on daughters ipod

My daughter's ipod touch 2nd generation only has a 3.x.x software on it.   Lately she has not be able to open some of her games.    It looks like I might need to install update iOS 4.2.1 however, in iTunes the only update I see is the iOS 5.x.x which is not compatible.    Where do I find prevous updates in itunes and do you know if this will fix the problem?

If games don't open that previously worked, it's probably not an issue of needing an updated version of iOS, though that may be desirable for other apps that will require a newer version.
Try restarting the iPod - Hold down the power button until you get the red "slide to power off", do so, and then press the power button again to start the iPod back up. If that doesn't help, try removing the problem games and reinstalling (she'll lose any saved games, scores, etc.)
If you really want to upgrade iOS as well, post back and I can give you the link to Apple's direct download for iOS 4.2.1 for the 2nd-gen iPod touch.
    Regards.

  • Are there any downloadable games still out there for 2nd Generation iPod?

I am searching for games that will download on an older iPod. Purchased two 2nd generation iPods on Ebay and am having trouble getting any games that are compatabile. Are there any still out there. Purchased these for 2 grandchildren. Help. Not only are there games, how do I download them. Can I do it from my computer? Can't find any in the app store on the iPod itself or have I just not looked hard enough.

They are there, but it's not easy to find these days.  At least your iPod touch can run iOS 4.2.  My old original iPhone can only run up to iPhone OS 3.1.3...
I used to be able to go into an app category in iTunes (on the computer), and sort the listing by release date, newest to oldest.  Then, I could go to the end of the list, and the older apps/games would be the ones that worked with the older hardware and iOS versions.  However, this method does not seem to work well anymore.  The lists do not appear to go back far enough, so the apps at the end of the list are still fairly new.
I found an app recently.  It's called VintApps.  You can go to the App Store using iTunes on the computer and search for it.  It costs 99 cents.  I can set it to "filter" based on iOS limitation (and other factors).  I can then browse in app categories (in the app), and it shows me lists based on the criteria.  Selecting an app from the list provides its description.  This lets me find apps that work with 3.1.3 (or 4.2 in your case)
Because older devices are slower (with a small screen), what I do is use VintApps on my iPhone to find something that looks interesting.  Then, I use iTunes on my Mac to find that app in the App Store.  If it looks good, I get it there (using my computer's iTunes) and sync it to my iPhone.

  • Does Apple plan to discontinue support/update for 2nd Generation iPod touch as latest iOS release for it is 4.2.1?

I have 2nd Generation iPod touch and latest iOS release for it is 4.2.1. Most of the Apps on iTunes now require iOS 4.3 at minimum. Isn't it outrageous that Apple is not supporting such iOS update for older iPod? Is there plan to discontinue such support?

I have a 2nd generation iPod Touch too and I currently have 24 Apps that I cannot update. Unlike you however, I hold the App developers responsible for the fact that they (the App developers) are not supporting iOS 4.2.1.
It is the App devloper who decides to modify their App so that it then requires a particular version of the iOS. Since a developer can have a free and a paid version of an App, it begs the question why don't they have the older and newer versions.
I now check the requirements for an App before I click on update. If it still only requires iOS 4.2.1, then I can update. If it requires a higher iOS, the I simply don't update it. One good thing is that by now, most of the older Apps are quite stable and bug free, so the update is usually to give something extra. Since I cannot update the App, I simply forgo the "extras".

  • Ios update for 2nd generation

I have a 2nd generation iPod touch with version 4.2.1.  Facebook app will not download - it requires iOS 4.3.  Is it possible to get iOS 3 on a 2nd generation iPod touch?

YOu cannot update to anything else 4.2.1 is it for the 2nd gen ipod touch.

  • Will iOS5 become available for 2nd generation iPod Touch?

I thought iMessage would be the perfect solution for texting while I am abroad, only to find that 2nd generation iPod touch isn't compatible?  That's ridiculous.  Anyone know if it will become available??

same as for iphone3G which is hardwareside comparable to the 2nd gen touch.
iOS5 needs 256MB of Ram to start with, as well as certain features in the CPU that were not available before the iphone 3GS and the iPod touch 3rd gen.
So your device is now maxed out . Enjoy it as it is.

  • Ibooks for 2nd generation ipod touch

I have my daughter's old 2nd generation ipod touch and would like to use it for books and music only.  The only problem is I can't get ibooks to download to it.  Any suggestions?

Well you cant download books because the ibook app needs ios 5 and the 2g doesnt support later version of ios. The latest is 4.2.1.
But you can download and hear music on there.

  • Must iTunes be open on computer for 2nd generation to work?

I'm afraid I already know the answer, but must iTunes be open for home sharing to work? I purchased a 2nd generation for the bedroom and I swear it was working with the computer (PC running Windows 7) logged off, when I first started using it. Then, I upgraded living room 1st generation to 2nd, and installed software update to both. Now, no home sharing unless computer is on, is on my user account, and iTunes open. Is this the intended use? If so, not workable in my household - we have several users that log onto their individual accounts on the computer. I tried the trick with not selecting "done" after turning on home sharing, which causes the sync to work if still logged onto iTunes. But close iTunes, and no library found...

If you have an iphone or compatible ipod touch you can just use airplay.
