What's the maximum internal space for Mid 2010 MacBook Pro

Ok guys I'm about to upgrade my internal drive on my MacBook Pro and would like to know what is the maximum space to put in. I'm also gong to replace optibay a 128GB SSD. Is any 1TB 2.5" good?

I suggest that you install the SSD in the same place as your current HDD.  Install the 1 TB drive  in the DVD drive location.
I have HGST 1 TB drives, both 5400 rpm and 7200 rpm.  Both work satisfactorily.
Ciao.
I also have the HGST 1.5 TB HDDs but they are only available in 5400 rpm versions.

what is the best 500GB HDD for a 2007 macbook pro. This is a pre unibody machine.
I am upgrading at the minute and can't make my mind up. I need a 7200rpm drive, but have heard some stories concerning overheating etc.
These are the drives I am looking at: Seagate Momentus, Hitachi Travelstar and Western Digital all 500GB, running at 7200rpm.

If you haven't already, you might look a the user comments at http://www.newegg.com on those hard drives. If you don't get other comments here, you might post in the MBP discussion (this is the iMac discussion) at https://discussions.apple.com/community/notebooks/macbook_pro

  • What is the best protective case for 2011 13" Macbook Pro

What is the best protective case for 2011 13" Macbook Pro (that can withstand an active 4 year old :).   My 4 year old plays with the teaching apps on my iPhone 4 in the otterbox case and its great - the bulkiness of the otterbox not an issue and I love being able to give the phone to him and feel completely comforatable. I would love to find something to protect my Macbook Pror. Thanks for any help!!

I would definitely go for a Hardsheel or a Perforated Hardshell Case

  • Wi-Fi Slow for Mid-2010 MacBook Pro in Clamshell Mode

'd like to add my experience the posts which I have see regarding slow speeds in clamshell. I have a mid-2010 Macbook Pro 13 and when I first attempted to use it with an external monitor, keyboard and mouse - I too experienced significant slowing of the wi-fi speed. About 3 months ago, we swapped our existing router (non-Apple) for an Airport Extreme. That seems to have somehow cured the problem. While this does not address the issue with a 2008 product, I'd be interested to hear if anyone else has similar experience and/or if this potentially corrects the problem for other current model (or earlier model) Unibody owners. I hope that this isn't something that might evaporate with a software update someday in the future.

    Hello thedoctor8706
Reset your NVRAM and test to see if that resolves your issues. Typically that will resolve video, volume, startup disk selection, and kernel panic issues.

  • What is the "best" internal hard drive compatible with macbook pro 13.3" product number: MD101LL/A  that does not damage OS?

I'm looking for an upgrade in space ( 750gb - 1 TB) and performance on the hard drive, but I have read in many forums that many "compatible" hard drives may damage the OS. I plan on installing bootcampt with Windows 7 and the latest Mac OS. I'm wondering if anyone has updated their HD and if they've experienced any problems with it, or if anyone has any suggestions. Thank you for your advice in advance!

I'm wondering if anyone has had any particular experience with the Seagate 1TB solid state hybrid drive (found here: http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Solid-Hybrid-2-5-Inch-ST1000LM014/dp/B00B99JUBQ). It boasts SSD-like speeds at a fraction of the cost, and its right around my budget, but perhaps its too good to be true?
I have two of those Seagate SSHDs, using one as the internal drive in my primary MBP.  Boot and shutoff times are dramatically less than before (using 7200 rpm HGST HDDs).  In other respects, I have no complaints regarding the drive performance.  I can recommend them based on my limited experience (~3 months).  The $99 price does look very attractive.
Note that when you install a HDD of larger capacity in a MBP, it should be reflected in your backup strategy.  Do you have a backup drive to accommodate the additional data that you will be able to store on the new internal HDD?
    Ciao.

  • RAM Upgrade for Mid-2010 MacBook Pro?

I have a mid-2010 15 inchMacBook Pro with 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5 processor and 4 GB of RAM. I've put OSX Mavericks on it, and it's painfully slow. I reaize it was probably a mistake to upgrade to Mavericks on an older machine. I'm too lazy to roll back the operating system but was wondering if upgrading the RAM might help. Appreciate thoughts on this. Also, how much RAM can go into this machine?

melophage has a 2010.  so i would think that he's had some experience.
I have a 2011 MBP so my specs are probably different, however, mine was set max at 8g.  I did some researching and found that my particular model can accept 16g.  some could not, and there was a lot of anxiety that I had, in making that jump LOL.  But like whywutt, I went to crucial and got their confirmation on my model.  I got the type they indicated, which abrody is very adept, if you get it wrong, it can cause complications.
further some did and it didn't work.  and it may not work for your model.  but doing the research is what had me going, dipping into some forums, doing some reading.  not relying on just a post.  going to crucial, making the double checks, helped me correct a potential error I almost made during ordering.
i broke a sweat putting them in and powering up.  its worked.  and i had a few little glitchy things here and there.  but with some updates, some recognition of the memory heavies.  my basic issue is rising heat.  but for regular programs, i can use the machine with similar speed to my thought process, which is very scary.  lol
however, i rock with 16g.  LOL. I wouldn't want to gloat if you cannot upgrade to 16g  but if you couldn't, and you really want maverick, popping up to a late 2011 might be an upgrade choice, since there's hard cut offs by year on older models, which I absolutely despise that issue with manufacturers.  but the 2011 has graphics, like others above say.  so really part is the memory.  the other part is graphics.  duo to quad etc. etc.
but do more asking.  search on your unit.  see what your options are.  and you are doing that.  that's a great step.
i prefer maverick, hate the name, lost some things that I loved.  but overall, iOS compatibility.....
and you know on my older mac, i have a 2009/2010 white case, and yah, it didn't reach the speeds and processing that I personally required, and always had glitches, and funky electronic cul-de-sacs in working the machine.  mainly when you start wanting to do things like run parellels and windows, or you have a project and you need this plus that, but you are misisng a component.  i don't have those issues now.  not nearly as much LOL.
but I lost all my old adobe apps.  adobe totally cut me off.  not interested in moving forward with adobe for the buy in and live comfortably without it.
so there are some things that i mull through and remember, when I was in your chair, making similar comparisons in what to do and how to do it, and modifying my machine.  i upgraded.  i'm glad i made the jump.  but if you can't, there's probably some work arounds to assist you living with what you have and that's not a bad thing.  i did want to live with what I had. anyways.  good luck.

  • What is the Proper Screen Resolution For a 17" MacBook Pro?

Playing around with display in system preferences I have somehow reset / changed the screen display / resolution.
To what should I set the display?
    Thanks

    Many thanks!
I'm using a friend's computer with which I'm not 100% comfortable. How I got into this trouble was trying to set output to a projector.
Now I have two screens in my system preferences -- one "VGA Display" and the other "Color LCD." The highest setting on the LCD is 1680 x 1050. On the VGA the list goes up to 2304 X 1728. And on the VGA the options include various Hz rates -- 60, 75, 85, 90
I know I'm close. Help me over this last bump!

  • Mid-2010 MacBook Pro Safari/Graphics issue??

Hi. Below I've posted a picture of what I've been experiencing on my mid-2010 MacBook Pro that is running Mac OS X Lion (10.7.1).
Usually, my screen stays like that for a few seconds, then those little things go away. However, when I took the screenshot, my screen stayed like that for about 20 minutes. I've had this issue in both Safari and Firefox. Even updating to 10.7.1, this still happens.
What could possibly be wrong? Is it a bug with Lion or is my graphics card at fault?
I really appreciate your help! Thank you!!

    jodifromcinnaminson,
nope — one reason why the cost of Apple products in the US is low compared to prices in other countries is that the prices in other countries often include seller’s warranties which extend beyond the manufacturer’s warranty; that’s not the case in the US.
If you’re intent on purchasing no more Apple products because of how they’d handled the 15-inch Mid 2010 MacBook Pro defect, then I’d highly recommend writing a letter to Apple explaining exactly why you’ve made that decision.

  • Mid-2010 MacBook Pro '13 Dead.

So I've had an issue for the past week with my Mid 2010 MacBook Pro 13-inch. For a little while, it has been losing the time, and shut down randomly a few times, but last sunday, it shut down, and wouldn't boot back up. When I press the power button, I get no signs of life, but a very, very quiet 'ticking' noise (only when held down). Not even the light on the front comes on.
I tried disconnecting the battery, and booting with just the power cord. Again, nothing. I even let the laptop drain overnight, with the battery disconnected, still, nothing.
When I plug in the power cord, the light goes orange, but as soon as I press the power button, it goes straight back to green for around 15-20 seconds.
I've got no idea how to sort this, and it's a pretty big problem. I have considered a trip to the Apple Store, but it's waaayyyy out of warranty, so I'm not sure they'd particularly be able to do anything. Any ideas?
    Many Thanks, George.

The best thing you can do is take it to an Apple storegenius bar for diagnosis by thetechs, that part of the visit is free.  That way you will have a definitive answer to the problem.  And then make some choices as to repair.
Go to Apple Retail Store at the bottom of this page, Genius Bar in the upper right of the page that opens, Make a Reservation top center of the next page that opens.  Appointments help avoid standing around waiting too long.

  • Whats the maximum resolution resolution supported @ 60 Hz on an external display for mid 2014 macbook pro retina 13 inch ?

whats the maximum resolution supported @ 60 Hz on an external display for mid 2014 macbook pro retina 13 inch ?

I don't know where you found 1920x1080, but that isn't the max. The INTERNAL display can even support more than that.
The maximum resolution is really hardware based, and since Thunderbolt 2 has a Mini displayport connector (Mini Displayport 1.2), the max resolution for Mini Displayport is 4k (3840x2160).
PLEASE NOTE: Not all adapters can support that resolution, most monitors that can run 4k @60Hz have Displayport 1.2 (The most recent revision), Mini Displayport 1.2, and HDMI 2.0. DVI dual link can run 4k, but only 24-30Hz, depending on the monitor.
    Hope this helps!!

they have to format it to make it mac "compatible", for a lack of better terms.  I don't know what they would do.

What is the maximum resolution available for use with the Apple Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI adapter?

    Hey guys,
I found out an answer by myself...
The missing link : the MacBook Pro needs to be powered... as in you need to plug the charger in...
In conclusion, you simply plug everything, turn on the MacBook Pro, close the lid, and there you go !

  • DPS(pdf): What is the maximum zoom-factor for the iPad

    Hi,
What is the maximum zoom-factor for the iPad?
    Regards,
    Anil Yadav

I'm sorry -- I have not communicated my question well.   When I use full
page mode (no window borders, Ctrl-L) and zoom to many thousands %, then
entire screen (14000 pixels by 1200 pixels) is not used -- only about 9000
pixels x 1200 pixels.   The entire screen should have document content
because I'm extremely zoomed in.  There is no meaning to pixels/inch in
this context (and I tried your suggestion -- it made no difference).   This
seems to be a hard limitation of Adobe Reader X screen display...?

    Spill Cleaning
Some liquid has just spilled into your Mac. What should you do?
    Do
Immediately shut down the computer and unplug the power cord.
Remove the computer's battery (if you can)
Disconnect any peripherals (printers, iPods, scanners, cameras, etc.)
Lay the computer upside down on paper towels to get as much liquid as possible to drip out.
Note what was spilled on your Mac.
Bring the computer into an Apple store or AASP as soon as possible.
    Don't
Don't try to turn it back on. Liquids can help electrical current move about the components of your Mac in destructive ways.
Don't shake the computer (this will only spread the liquid around).
Don't use a hair dryer on it (even at a low setting a hair dryer will damage sensitive components).
