What's the point of including "You might contact your administrator if you think this is a mistake" when a post is pulled?

I understand that the mods here can't possibly reply to everyone who has a post pulled for ToU. One can vaguely try to contact an administrator indirectly, perhaps, by posting here. (When this takes the form of a "why was my post pulled" post, this usually starts a discussion of some kind, which may or may not have any value, but which almost always fails to elicit any direct participation of the Hosts, and gives the impression, at least, it's being completely ignored by them.)
Since there is no way of directly contacting an administrator, either for ToU or for any other reason, which this appears to suggest is possible, why not just get rid of it?

>...although the OP's question still remains....
I'm now referred to as the OP?
If you got the email with content for the "final straw" post, which was mine, then you will know what I wrote. I already had one post pulled in that thread for a ToU and I did receive the obligatory email for that. I did not receive an email for the "final straw" post. Just the entire thread got pulled almost immediately at that point.
Everything I am writing here now is deliberately being veiled and obscured to the limit possible without losing all meaning and just turning this into noise. No one who didn't receive that email content for my post will have any very clear idea what this is all about.
My "final straw" comments related to several things: some copyright issues concerning the site under discussion; the ToU of that site as, in fact, necessarily prohibiting even the linking of content from that site, and an attempt to differentiate, in general, between what is illegal and what is a violation of the ToU, and not illegal, as such, for any service on any site. I'm not opening all of that up again here, since whatever it was I wrote will probably just get this post pulled.
All I can say is I attempted assiduously to stay clear of the Apple ToU violation for which I was cited by the Apple email in my earlier post which was pulled -- or any ToU violation, for that matter. I was not discussing Apple's policies, nor was I giving "forbidden" instructions. That the entire thread got pulled has to make me think that straying into those waters -- perhaps, my discussion of copyright issues in regard to the behavior of the other site under consideration, especially, made someone very nervous. Or maybe it was something other than that. But I will never know.
In any case, "You might contact your administrator if you think...." is genuinely silly, and unless it's somehow ineradicable from the Jive template -- I see now Meg has given that as a possible reason -- I can't see why it shouldn't be removed.

This is complete rubbish. Please don't post misinformation - new users find the forums confusing enough without you adding to it.
When you see that notice it means that the thread or User Tip has been removed. A User Tip may have gone out of date and been removed at the author's request. With a thread it means that someone, usually the original poster, has violated the Terms of Use by ranting, spamming, personal abuse or other content which is not allowed. Consequently anyone else who tries to view that thread will see the message quoted above, which is a standard message in the forum software; the 'contact an administator' bit is irrelevant.

    Greetings,
Hm. I've never seen that in iCal.  In some other Applications the tilde "~" indicates a restore point or a before / after for a file.  My guess is there is a broken cache file in iCal.
    Try:
Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Language & Text > Formats > Region. Region should be set to the country of your choice. Do not have it set to "Custom" as this can have unexpected results in the iCal window.
If that doesn't resolve the issue:
    1. First make an iCal backup:  Click on each calendar on the left hand side of iCal one at a time highlighting it's name and then going to File Export > Export and saving the resulting calendar file to a logical location for safekeeping.
    2. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
    3. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
--- NOTE: To get to "Home > Library" in Lion: Click anywhere on the desktop and then click on the "Go" menu at the top of the computer screen while holding down the "option" key on the keyboard.  You will see "Library" in the menu.
    4. Launch iCal and test.
    If the issue persists:
    1. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
    2. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
--- NOTE: Removing these files may remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
    3. Launch iCal and test.
    Hope that helps.

  • What is the point of Groups in Ovi Contacts

You can add a new Group in Contacts (such as Family), you can then add Contacts to the Group. But then what?
You can't do anything with the Group, not even view it.
    Am I missing something here?

Had the same problem.  I set up groups in outlook as I have over 500 contacts.  Sometime I want to just view the group as I can't remember exactly who I am looking for.  No way to import that kind of group into a Nokia phone.  All the Nokia groups allow you to do is to set up a group email list (at least thats the only way I can use them).

  • What's the point in icluding?

    Hello people,
I'm wondering: what's the point in including code in a JSP using the
<%@include...%> directive if I must "touch" every single page that is including it if I want the modified verion of the included page to be reloaded by the server?!
Is there a way around this?
I know that including with <jsp:include.../> will have the server reload the included page if it has been modified.
But if I use this type of include, variables defined and intialized in the included page won't be visible by the parent page and that doesn't help me at all (or am I mistaking on this one? please tell me).
Thanks a lot for any help,
    svevo.

Hi guys, thanks for answering! :)
Still though what I'm reading here doesn't solve my problem:
    using
    <jsp:include page="myinclude.jsp" flush="true" />
doesn't let objects and/or variables in the including page to be visible in the included page and viceversa and that's a problem for the webapp I'm developing.
On the other hand files included with
    <%@include file="myinclude.jsp"%>
are not reloaded unless the including page is reloaded as well (and that's a pain and makes including code this way basicly worthless IMHO).
What I need is a way to include code that will be able to use objects and variable declared and initialized in the including page and that we'll reload each time it is changed without having to track each single page using the included code and modify that as well so that is realoded by the server. Nor I can reload tomcat.
So, has anybody encountered the same problem?
Has anyone found a workaround for this?
    Thanks a lot! :)

  • I am extremely upset. I purchased my iPad in SA and I am traveling in Greece. When I want to make use of the free apps, I get a message that the app is not available in the SA store. What is the point of having an iPad if you cannot use it worldwide?

I am extremely upset. I purchased my iPad in SA and now I am in Greece. I cannot download free apps as I get a message that the apps are not available in the SA store and only in US stores. When I change to the US store the same thing happens. What is the point of having an iPad if I cannot use it worldwide??? I feel that I wasted my money purchasing it as I specifically purchased it to use when I travel. How can I get access to all the available apps and why are they restricted.

You can use your iPad worldwide. However, each AppleID is tied to
a specific country's store. To use the AppStore in any country, you
must be in that country and have a credit/debit card issued by a financial
institution in that country with a verified billing address in that country.
It is the developer's choice which AppStores he makes his app available
from, and some countries prohibit certain apps.
To make a purchase from the US store (including downloading a free app
available in the US store), you must be in the US and have card issued
in the US with verified billing address in the US.
You can use your purchases from the SA store worldwide, but you
cannot make purchases in other than the SA store unless you meet
    the aforesaid conditions.

  • What is the point of the download window if you use stacks?

    Greetings,
One of the most annoying things about the download window was the fact that the window always hung around after completing dowloads in Tiger when using safari. To me, that was just a time waster of always pressing Apple+W to close that window.
When Leopard was released, I was excited to realize that one function of the download stack was to recevie downloads from safari after completed. However, after completion, the download window still sticks around and I still have to close it... then navigate to my stack of downloads to mount the image. What is the point of the download window is I use stacks now? Why can't the window disappear after completion?
    //Cheers

Aaargh!! Me too - it's so annoying! Firefox has a downloads window as well - I just don't see the point of it. I didn't like it in Tiger either.
As a way to see the progress of downloads, it's fine, but it should at least close when all the downloads are finished, and completed downloads should not display.
Ideally it should look & work exactly like the Copy window in Finder - the one that comes up when you are copying or moving a large file or number of files from one folder to another.
Is there a hack that will make it work like that?

  • WHAT IS THE POINT OF FOLDER IN DOCK IF YOU NEED TO KEEP THE ORIGINAL FOLDER

    Hi there,
If I put a folder of pictures on the new Leopard dock, can I trash the original folder? I want to keep my desktop clean and just have it in the dock but I think it will just delete the folder if I do that. If this is the case, what is the point of keeping the folder in the dock if you still need to keep the same original folder on the desktop or elsewhere on your hard drive? Thanks to anyone who can hep with this!

If it behaves as in Tiger, then the folder will indeed be deleted.
If this is the case, what is the point of keeping the folder in the dock if you still need to keep the same original folder on the desktop or elsewhere on your hard drive?
If the folder is on your desktop, then it's rather easy to access, but if it's buried on your hard drive, you my not want to open a Finder window if you need to access it regularly. Basically, placing a folder in the Dock creates an alias (shortcut) to the folder. But if you place the folder in the Dock and move the actual folder to your documents folder (for example) instead ot trashing it, your desktop will still be clean, and you'll be able to access your folder easily. IMO, it's not that bad…

  • What's the point in buying a new MacBook?

    Hi all,
Recently I went with my iBook G4 to the Apple store to troubleshoot a small problem, but they were unable to help me as after only 7 years, the machine was rendered obsolete and they didn't feel obliged to help. My iBook recently died and I felt like a part of me was missing.
So my question is, what is the point of buying myself a brand new MacBook Pro if in 5 or 6 years, it will be obsolete? I want a Mac that will last me wherever I go for a long time before it finally dies. I've realized that I need to put PowerPC computers out of the question, but will intel processer Macs last longer than PowerPC processors?
For the record, I don't want to switch to Microsoft as I find them difficult and this isn't a crack at Apple.
    Any answers are very appreciated,
    Thomas.

With Intel based Macs the hardware will not become obsolete as fast as PPC based Macs did, but the operating system and/or applications used might.
That does not mean that it will stop working, just that you won't, in a few years' time, be able to get the latest bells and whistles.
Officially, support from Apple ceases after seven years - but that does not stop the Macs working!
    Vintage and obsolete Apple products:
Obsolete products are those that were discontinued more than seven years ago. Apple has discontinued all hardware service for obsolete products with no exceptions. Service providers cannot order parts for obsolete products. These include ALL G4 and G5 models.

  • What's the point of FileVault?

Of the many recent changes and updates that Lion offers, FileVault has me a little baffled.  What's the point of it?  Does it allow me to encrypt my files and folders with a password?  If so, I haven't seen that option yet.  After turning on FileVault, Lion started the process of encrypting my files (so it says) but without the option to enable a password for folders and programs, I'm not sure I understand what purpose it serves.

I use FileVault on all of my systems, which include two MacBook Pro systems (one with dual hard drives), a Mac Mini, and an XServe, and have enabled it on numerous other Macs that colleagues have used, and also enable encryption on most of my external hard drives.
You can clone your encrypted drive, though you might have troubles doing block-level clones. Once the drive is unlocked and mounted the system treats it as any other drive, and you can use Carbon Copy Cloner or another cloning tool to file-level clone your drive. The problem with cloning Lion drives with file-level cloning is you will not copy the hidden Recovery HD partiton, but this hurdle is present regardless of whether or not you have FileVault 2 enabled. However, it only takes a few more steps to restore the Recovery HD partition when cloning or restoring your system from backup (it just takes remembering to do so, since cloning is not officially supported by Apple as a backup/recovery routine).
Installing new applications and managing documents is seamless, and is the same as if you install them on any other OS X system. The encryption happens underneath the OS, so OS X, documents, and applications you use are unaware of it and work as they would on any system.
Your concerns about losing the password are good ones, but if you already set your system to use the login window instead of automatic login then there is no difference (the regular use of the login window ensures you remember your password). The same password is used to unlock the drive and then log into your account once the system is booted. The difference with login is that you will need to specify the users who are able to unlock the drive (done in the FileVault system preferences). If a user is not, then the initial login window will not show that user account, and to get to that account another user will have to log in, and then log out so the unauthorized user can access his account.
In terms of performance problems, I've not seen any in my uses (primarily office and computational analysis with programs such as Igor Pro, Matlab); however, I use SSDs in my systems so this greatly increases overall performance and results will likely be different if you are using the slower classic HDD technology.

  • What is the point of having indented levels in course outlines?

What is the point of having indented levels in course outlines? It's not possible to add any materials or posts to this. I want to avoid having simply a long list of topics that are difficult to manage. When I create a topic in the outline, I can indent it, but then I can't add any posts to it as it doesn't even show up as a heading in course manager.
I've been trying to have some kind of logical organisation of materials, but the only thing you seem to be able to do is have a long list of topics.
Which makes me wonder why the possibility of indenting levels is there at all - it seems to be a completely worthless item.

I guess the point of the indented lists is to provide the user with some description of the topic’s contents. It's a standard convention in the table of contents of books. It might pay to break your course down into a number of courses if the list of topics is getting too unwieldy.

  • What is the point of Location Services?

I have an iPod Touch and some Apps keep asking me to switch this on. What is the point and will it drain my battery?
    Thanks

Having Location services turned ON enables the Apps to determine your location. You can restrict access to only those Apps that you wish to have it (See Settings > Location Services). Some useful ones might be Google Earth, Maps, news sites, etc.
Location services should not significantly affect battery life.
