What's the point of Sync if I cannot load data until I register device?

I don't understand what SYNC is useful for if I cannot retrieve the data I uploaded to the server if I simply reset my browser. This happens often in Nightly (especially since this new australis/28.0a1 is so buggy since it's basically chrome UI ontop of gecko instead of chromium) because it is a test/alpha build and often requires a reset once the add-ons tested become obsolete/incompatible due to update.
If I have mobile firefox, and I synced ALL my data to a server, using a secure connection, after entering a password when prompted, WHY MUST I HAVE ANOTHER DEVICE PAIRED TO ACCESS MY OWN DATA?
This makes no sense since the purpose of sync is to backup and maintain the data. However, if you happen to have only one device that uses sync, as of right now, you cannot download and use the data uploaded earlier. OR, if you have a paired device but something happens to it as well. Often, this could be a buggy nightly build or you simply moved the browser from mobile built-in memory to SD card. Then, your mobile isn't synced, and your PC isn't synced either. You have the password, you have the same computer and mobile, you have the same e-mail... BUT NO, you must have a 3rd pr 4th device that is still paired or else it is useless!

i'm sorry but without the three components mentioned in my prior post it won't be possible to retrieve the synced data from the servers. the recovery key is used to locally encrypt your data before moving it to the cloud & meant to ensure that you're the only person that can access the data. since sync can hold very sensitive data (your passwords and your online-life) the system was designed with high security and encryption standards in mind, so the convenience and ease of use might suffer in return.

If backing up to iTunes on the computer, any content purchased from iTunes (apps, media, podcast, etc) will transfer during the backup/sync process.
If backing up to iCloud, content does not transfer automatically.
The purpose is to have a local backup of content. This is beneficial in the event that content is removed from iTunes and the user wants to reinstall or restore the device.

Seriously, what is the point in Firefox 29 in removing from Sync the ability to copy all the settings on Device A to Device B?

Sync used to work, albeit clunkily before Firefox 29. Now it does nothing at all in Firefox 29. What is the point? Bring back Sync functionality so we can copy all the tabs, bookmarks, passwords, and history from Device A to Device B.

No, Sync is very different in Firefox 29. Before, you could pair a device and specify that you want copy all the tabs, history, bookmarks, and passwords on Device A to Device B and it would do it. It worked. Now in Firefox 29 you upgrade, you log in, you ask it to Sync and nothing happens. It does not work.

You can sync and download many different types of content on your device. Some types of content (such as music and videos) typically take more space than others (such as notes and books). The amount of space taken by an app depends on the app's purpose; complex or graphically intense apps usually take more space than simpler apps.
If your device is near its capacity, you can remove some of the less used content to make room for more.

Backed up ipod to the cloud (12/25 11am) and then updated. Music is gone and the back up is not restoring?! why? What's the point of the cloud if nothing is there?

Ipod has been playing music in my car the past two years. new computer this year and new email address. Backed up to cloud. change ID on itunes. Music on my ipod disappeared. Shouldn't it be on the cloud somewhere?! What's the point of this cloud? And is it b/c I can't seem to change my icloud ID to the new one on my ipod settings?

Music is not stored in your personal iCloud account, or in your device backup. Music purchased from the iTunes store is in available for redownload as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519. Music from other sources such as your CDs should be in your iTunes library on your computer and can be synced back to your iPod from there.
To change the iCloud account on your device you have to delete the exsting account, then sign back into the new ID.

Unless I misunderstood, I have to pay to get all my music to be pushed to all my devices (iTunes Match) and I have to buy iWork for my iPhone (even though I already have it on my Mac) in order to get those documents pushed to the cloud. (It makes more sense to stick with iWork beta!)
I feel like Apple is nickling and diming its loyal customers.
So, essentially, iCloud is useless! I thought it would be a great way to free up space on my hard drive; I could just store my documents and music in the cloud.
My question is: what is the point of iCloud? Honestly, what does it do? It just pushes stuff between your devices? I genuinely don't understand the point of it.

That is exactly right.
In my own small home network we 7 Macs all being synced through MobileMe. Only two of these Macs can run Lion and doing so would mean no longer being able to use applications that our clients still use so it would mean loss of these clients. Not to mention the cost of replacing at least 5 of or Macs.
Then there are businesses that have dozens of Macs or sometimes even hundreds of Macs along with gigs and gigs of data that Macs running Lion can't access. So even ignoring the huge cost of replacing al these Macs with newer Macs there is still the issue of Macs running Lion not being able to run needed applications.
With MobileMe one could buy a newer Mac running Lion and it would still be able to sync with older Macs but now it is all or nothing.
At least one design shop that I do work for is now replacing their Macs with Windows machines since these computers can run older software and also be able to sync with iOS devices using iCloud. At least a dozen other places that I do business are considering doing the same thing.

What's the point of the To Do list syncing if the iPod is going to show all To Dos, even completed ones, in an alphabetical list? Shouldn't it only show the current non-completed ones?

In our place we have a first generation Apple TV, a few Macs, a couple iPhones, and an iPad. We use our iMac to stream and sync content to Apple TV. Anything we put on our iPad/iPhones content-wise almost always comes from our iMac where everything is stored.
I'm wondering, what's the point of AirPlay in this scenario? I mean, why would I ever want or need to stream to Apple TV from an iPad or iPhone when all my stuff is stored on my iMac anyway? I'm having a hard time understanding the point of AirPlay, unless it's all about streaming content to OTHER people's Apple TVs when you are away from home... but I don't know if this is even possible.

Well, if absolutely all the photo/video content on your iPhones already exists in iTunes on your imac, then there is no point to Airplay for you.
Myself, I'll be using it to Airplay photos to my big-screen TV from my iPhone 4. I only synch my phone to iTunes maybe once ever 3-4 weeks, so it will be great to snap a photo of my 7-month old son and instantly stream it straight to my TV, without having to plug my phone into my computer, import the photos into iPhoto, and then navigate to the homeshared photo event on my apple tv. Just one button (airplay) on the photo in your iPhone photos app, and it's on the TV. I already tested this and it's great.
And yes, if you ever bring your iphone over to someone else's house and want to show some pics that are on your phone, you can easily do that. Any iOS device will stream to any Airplay device (like ATV) as long as the two devices are on the same wi-fi network. It is possible to setup a password on your apple tv (2nd gen) so that someone with an iOS device must enter the password before being permitted to airplay content to the ATV, but if you don't enable that password then it is a one-touch process to stream your photos.
That said, one feature I thought Airplay would enable, which it apparently doesn't, is the ability to stream the videos in your iPhone's "Photos" app to the ATV. You can airplay the still photos to show a slide show, no problem. But there is simply no airplay button on the videos in your photos app. This is disappointing since I was looking forward to being able to shoot a short video and then instantly stream it to my ATV to show off to my wife or visitors. Apparently, this feature is not enabled.

After updating my 4s from os 6.1 to 7 I lost all my apps and my music, why are music and apps not included in a full phone backup? What is the point of a backup if everything will be wiped and cannot be recovered?

Apple does make the assumption that you will keep your music in iTunes on your computer, because if you don't the next time you connect the phone to your computer and sync the music will be erased. Or if you don't that you will take advantage of iTunes Match for music not from the iTunes store.
The point is why didn't you keep the music in iTunes? It can't be because it takes up too much space, because if your music was in your backup it would take up just as much space.

What's the point in creating photo albums on the iPad?

So I took some photos on my iPhone they sync'd to my iPad via photo stream. I then created an album on my iPad and started copying photos from photo stream to the album.. All good.
Now, that album doesn't seem to sync to my iPhone, or to iPhoto or anywhere. Nothing's happening by iCloud, and nothing is sync'd when I sync with iTunes via Wifi or USB. If I plug in by USB, iPhoto has no knowledge of the Album on the iPad.
There are no album-level sharing options (e.g. Publish album to iCloud/Facebook or anything).
So what's the point of creating the album on the iPad?

If you've taken photos with the iPad, and/or synced photos from your computer, then you may want to create an album with just a selection of those photos so that you can then just show those photos in a slideshow on the iPad e.g. you may have taken 100's of photos with the iPad and just want to show those with your children in.

must be in that country and have a credit/debit card issued by a financial

What is the point of the download window if you use stacks?

One of the most annoying things about the download window was the fact that the window always hung around after completing dowloads in Tiger when using safari. To me, that was just a time waster of always pressing Apple+W to close that window.
When Leopard was released, I was excited to realize that one function of the download stack was to recevie downloads from safari after completed. However, after completion, the download window still sticks around and I still have to close it... then navigate to my stack of downloads to mount the image. What is the point of the download window is I use stacks now? Why can't the window disappear after completion?

Aaargh!! Me too - it's so annoying! Firefox has a downloads window as well - I just don't see the point of it. I didn't like it in Tiger either.
As a way to see the progress of downloads, it's fine, but it should at least close when all the downloads are finished, and completed downloads should not display.
Ideally it should look & work exactly like the Copy window in Finder - the one that comes up when you are copying or moving a large file or number of files from one folder to another.
Is there a hack that will make it work like that?

What's the point of warranty?

I am a student coming from Hong Kong to London for postgraduate study. Before I left Hong Kong, I decided to buy a netbook for my lecturers in the UK. Lenovo s10-2 was chosen because the version available in HK comes with 6 cell battery with international warranty and Lenovo Protection Service (against accidental damage).
This is the first Lenovo machine for me. All was well and I was starting to appreciate Lenovo. Suddenly, the LED screen started to flick with white lines moving across the it, just two weeks after I bought it from Hong Kong.
Yesterday, I called the UK support line who initially suggested replacement (because the purchase is last than 30-day old). However, when the agent found out that I bought the machine in Hong Kong, he said I could only get it repairs. Fair enough.
I packed the netbook this afternoon ready to ship it to the repair center. Being not sure about whether or not my proof of purchase was needed, I called the support line again. This time, the agent gave me a "friendly warning" or maybe a management of my expectations.
I was told that Lenovo believes that there is a 99.5% chance that these type of problems are due to “internal damages" caused by users! I was also advised that sending the machine in for repairs risk myself getting into paying 230 pounds (pretty much the purchase cost) to get the LED screen fixed because it is likely to be not covered by warranty. On top of that, I would have to pay 65 pounds even if I want my netbook back after inspection without getting fixed because again, 99.5% chance that "damages by users" would be concluded!
What's the point of warranty? Totally unacceptable. Any thoughts? Should I take the risk?
I only got the machine just over two weeks ago and used for less than 10 times!

This bears a bit of looking into to provide you the best answer. Sometimes, the accidental damage policies are only valid in the home country, and I would like to check. If that were to be the case, you would have replacement or repair options in HK, but standard warranty terms would likely apply in UK.
Your situation sounds exceptional, and I'd like to look into this and see what can be done.

What is the point in having PRECISION and SCALE in number type? If you create the column with just NUMBER ie.without
specifying precision or scale , you can enter numbers with any precision and scale.

A persons Age may required to be stored as whole numbers of no more than 3 digits.
A sum of money may required to be stored with no more than 2 decimal places of accuracy e.g. GB Pounds and Pence or US Dollars and Cents
A unit of length may required to be stored in metres with 2 decimal places for centimetres
A shoe size may be required to be stored with one decimal place for half sizes
etc.

Yes, you may just create all of them as generic NUMBER datatype, but creating them with precision and scale can provide additional information about the limitations expected for the values stored, especially for things like reporting tools that may use the specified precision and scale to determine how to display the values automatically (by default).
If you start questioning "what's the point?" then you may as well say what's the point in having a NUMBER datatype when we can store numbers in a VARCHAR2 datatype? or what's the point in having a DATE datatype when we can stored dates as VARCHAR2 datatype? etc.
No point in asking such a question because there's almost always a point to these things (and if there isn't they get deprecated in later versions).

What is the point of having indented levels in course outlines? It's not possible to add any materials or posts to this. I want to avoid having simply a long list of topics that are difficult to manage. When I create a topic in the outline, I can indent it, but then I can't add any posts to it as it doesn't even show up as a heading in course manager.
I've been trying to have some kind of logical organisation of materials, but the only thing you seem to be able to do is have a long list of topics.
Which makes me wonder why the possibility of indenting levels is there at all - it seems to be a completely worthless item.

I guess the point of the indented lists is to provide the user with some description of the topic’s contents. It's a standard convention in the table of contents of books. It might pay to break your course down into a number of courses if the list of topics is getting too unwieldy.
