What's the quickest way to remove "compilations" setting from all albums?

I noticed that a lot of albums of mine are stored in the Compilations folder, however, this must have been a default setting when ripped as they aren't compilations, just regular releases. I want to put all these albums into the correct artist folders and want to know the best way to do this to not lose the links between them and iTunes.
I was thinking if it was possible to go into itunes, choose view-compilations, filter to show all compilations, then select them all, right click get info, and check and uncheck the compilations section - would this work? Has anyone else had success putting "compilations" back to individual artists?

Hi,
See attached screen shot
You will now see Compilations under Artist. This will help you to identify true compilations as well as those mislabelled.

Hello,
What is the 'quickest' way to read character data from a txt file stored on the phone to be displayed into the screen?
Regards

To be even a bit more constructive...
Since J2me does not have a BufferedInputStream, it will help to implement it yourself. It's much faster since you read large blocks at ones in stread of seperate chars.
something line this lets you read lines very fast:
while ( bytesread < filesize ) {
length = configfile.read( buff, 0, buff.length );
// append buffer to temp String
if ( length < buff.length ) {
byte[] buf = new byte[length];
System.arraycopy( buff, 0, buf, 0, length );
tmp.append( new String( buf ) );
} else {
tmp.append( new String( buff ) );
// look in tmp string for \r\n
idx1 = tmp.toString().indexOf( "\r\n" );
while ( idx1 >= 0 ) {
//if found, split into line and rest of tmp
line = tmp.toString().substring( 0, idx1 );
/// ... do with it whatever you want ... ////
tmp = new StringBuffer( tmp.toString().substring( idx1 + 2 ) );
idx1 = tmp.toString().indexOf( "\r\n" );
bytesread += length;
}

What is the best way to remove crayon writing from my Ipad?

All Apple recommends is a damp cloth.
Depending on how much and thick it is, I'd use a dry papertowel or your fingernail to scrape the bulk of it off (I suggest fingernail so that you use something that can't really scratch the iPad)
Once you get most of it, then use a damp, not wet, cloth, maybe one that you moistened with warm water to help cut through the waxy nature of the crayon.
What you don't want to do is use chemicals or anything like a scrubby pad because you don't want to scratch the surface in your efforts to clean it.

Depending on how long the site has been active, it may be
already
spidered by search engines and cached. However, for the most
part, I
usually use my FTP program OR even Dreamweaver itself (now
that I can)
to delete files on the server just as I do locally. Hit the
delete and

• What is the best way to remove personal data from the hard drive in preparation for selling my old Mac?

I am going to sell or perhaps donate my old Power Mac G5. Is there an easier, yet comprehensive way to remove my data from the hard-drive? My best approach is dumping anything I do not want found into the trash.
I am running Mac OS 10.5.8 on the powermac G5

For better security than the simple Erase (which does not actually over-write the data blocks, only clears the directory), choose Security Options, and Zero all data, one pass.
After a Zero all data, the only way to recover the data is to dis-assemble the drive in a clean room and use expensive test gear to recover a little of the data. That is good for all but Military Secrets.
If you really trust no one under any circumstances, remove the drive and beat it to death with a hammer.

• What is the best way to remove unwanted software from my mac

I was told that I have unwanted software on my MacBook. The software cannot be seen in the Applications folder, but it is there and it needs to be removed or files and network connections will be damaged. I know there are free downloads to help resolve the situation, like AppZapper. I am wondering what is the best free download available.

Who told you that you have unwanted software on your Mac?
How did they find out that this was the case?
Did you allow someone to remotely connect to your Mac?
What is the name of this software?
Only after we know the validity of this information will it be time to do something about it.
At the present time I would not load any crapware on your Mac such as AppZapper. It is never needed for any reason on a Mac.

• What is the best way to remove elements 10 from one pc and install it on another?

What steps need to be taken to remove Adobe Elements 10 from one pc and install it on another?

Use back up and restore from the Organizer menu. You are permitted two activations so no real need to deactivate the old copy unless you have installed it previously on another machine.
See these instructions for PSE6 and above.

• What is the safest way to remove a virus from a Mac?

Hello!
I just ran a virus check using ClamXav and a virus popped up. The information for the virus is as follows:
File name: 32294 . emlx
Infection name: Heuristics. Phishing. Email. Spoofed Domain
(There are no spaces before or after the periods.)
I've never had a virus on here before and I always try to be safe, but sometimes others use the computer as well.
If anyone has any tips or information about this horrible thing I would truly appreciate it!
Thank you for stopping by :-)

That is not actually a virus, it's just an e-mail message that ClamXav suspects may be a phishing e-mail. The key phrase there is "may be." ClamXav uses some heuristic rules to try to identify potential phishing e-mails, but those rules are far from reliable.
Control-click on each item in the list of malware ClamXav has detected, and choose Reveal in Finder. This will show the problem e-mail message file (named using a number followed by ".emlx"). Double-click that file (don't worry, this is perfectly safe) to open it in Mail. You can then delete the message from there, if it is actually a phishing e-mail.
Never allow ClamXav to delete e-mail messages. That can corrupt the index of the mailbox the message is in, and it does not remove the message from the server (if it's still stored on the server), so you may end up with the bad message showing back up again.

• What is the fastest way to remove blacklisted IP from Exchange Online Protection Services?

Hello,
We have recently added new ISP and unfortunately, if we try to send an email to any customer who is using Microsoft Online Protection Services the email is bouncing back indicating that our new IP is blacklisted by Microsoft. In order to remove, we have
to send an email to
[email protected]
Is there any telephone number I can reach their support?
Thanks,

I have probably bad news, this e-mail is only valid option to delist currently without direct support contract with Microsoft (when using Office 365 or so).
Sent e-mail to this contact and also check mxtoolbox.com if your ISP is also not blocked somewhere else and why.

• What is the best way to remove footage from the middle of a clip?

What is the best way to remove unwanted footage from the middle of a clip? I have a clip that I've trimmed from the start and finsih, but I need to remove "boring" footage from inbetween.

Thank you for your replies. I tried the blade tool followed by select and delete but it did not seem very precise. I had better success with this aproach at the ends rather than in the middle. I watched a tutorial video on using the precision editor, but the video was small so I had a difficult time following where the person clicked, etc. Any info on using the precision editor would be greatly appreciated. I need to make precise cuts to avoid creating unatural motion for the subject. So far, close but no cigar.

• What is the simplest way to remove duplicates on both iMac and iPad2?

What is the simplest way to remove duplicate photos from both iMac & iPad2?

The implication here is that your music is only on the iPod, for if it is in iTunes, you need only do the restore. So you are really asking how you move the music from your iPod back into iTunes, so that when you restore it will go back to the iPod. Take a look at Para. 8 in this summary post I worked up.

• What's the best way to removed unwanted files?

I have an iMac G4 running OS X 10.4.11 with 1GB of DDR SDRAM. I'm wondering what's the best way to remove unwanted files from the RAM, if it's even possible. There are apps and other files I no longer need. If I can dump the unused files will it help the computer run a little faster? Can I eliminate the unwanted files some how by myself or do I need a program that does it? Thanks

Applications are stored perminately on the harddrive [ Macintosh HD ]. When applications are running that is when they appear in a window, they take up RAM. You see your running applications by using activity monitor:
Macintosh-HD -> Applications -> Utilities -> Activity Monitor
Application when they are not running, they do not take up RAM. You will not see any performance improvement when you delete an application from your Harddrive. [ unless you have filled up your harddrive ]
Best to have greater than 2gig of free space on your Harddrive. Many posters to these forums state that you need much more free space: 5 gig to 10 gig or 10 percent of you hd size.
Most applications do not take up much space on the Harddrive. I copy my unused application to a folder named additional applications.

Be careful when deleting files. A lot of people have trashed their system when deleting things. Place things in trash. Reboot & run your applications. Empty trash.
Go after large files that you have created & know what they are. Do not delete small files that are in a folder you do not know what the folder is for. Anything that is less than a megabyte is a small file these days.

This will save you a gig of space.
Monolingual is a program for removing unnecessary language resources from Mac OS X,in order to reclaim several hundred megabytes of disk space. It requires at least Mac OS X 10.3.9 (Panther) and also works on Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger). It worked for me on 10.4

• HT1417 What's the quickest way to delete duplicates without going song by song?

What is the quickest way to delete duplicates from i tunes library without going song by song? I just transferred my music from my ipod classic to my computer and now I have a lot of duplicate music. Most is from CD's I reburned or music I was able to get back on my new computer through I tunes. It is from my personal i pod (one of 4). I finally figured out how to get it off the ipod and back onto my newer computer. I made sure to go to advanced setting and check "keep i tunes folder organized" but it still saved all duplicates.

Apple's official advice is here... HT2905 - How to find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library. It is a manual process and the article fails to explain some of the potential pitfalls.
Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to display duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks, however this works best when performed immediately after the dupes have been created. If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin.
Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See this thread for background and please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping.

• What is the quickest way to access the Settings on an iPad?

What is the quickest way to access the Settings on an iPad? (I mean, the usual cogwheel "app" called Settings)
In particular, I'm looking for a quicker way (or a more convenient one) to access it from an open application, than hitting the "home" button, possibly swiping the home pages, and tapping on it.
(I know, I know, I already placed it in the bottom bar, so I have it available from all pages...)
It would be great if I could cut another step or two. I mean, there are situations where I need to use the Settings app repeatedly. I wonder why it was not included in the iOS 7 swipe-from-bottom menu, while the "Camera" or "Countdown Timer / Clock" made the cut.
I know everybody will have a different opinion on what should be included in that menu, and choices have to be made, but still...
for example, on my Android smartphone the newer OS updates placed a shortcut to the settings app in the upper-right corner of the swipe-down menu, which is like the most prominent place you could place it in.
Anyway, do you know of one or more alternative ways to access the Settings app?
(Oh, and yeah, it just occurred to me that I can four-finger swipe it, if I have accessed it recently, but again if I access another app or two in between it will become at least as cumbersome as going through the home page).

Anyway, do you know of one or more alternative ways to access the Settings app?
Short answer, no. If you have a suggestion for future iOS functionality, use the feedback functionality found elsewhere on this site.
