What's the sort order for podcasts on the shuffle?

Hi all... Can someone tell me how the iPod Shuffle orders podcasts? I've seen MANY posts saying there's no way to manually sort podcasts on the shuffle (which is crazy IMO), but at least if I know how it's ordering the podcasts that'll help me identify which one is next.
I added 15 podcasts to the shuffle, and sorting by every category I can find none that matches the order the shuffle places the podcasts in.
So first question -- what order are the podcasts stored in?
And second question -- Why the heck did Apple do this? Why can't podcasts just be treated like standard MP3 songs?
And finally if there's no answer to either of these, is there anyway to get ipodderx to sync to the ipod shuffle? I love itunes, but if it's going to hender my hardware I'll switch to something else.

I'm wondering if something's wrong with my podcast, because that's not what happens on mine. For example I have my podcasts in this order:
NPR Technology
Haunted New Jersey
Autumn in New England
Hometown Tales Podcast
And even after selecting File then Update iPod and even right-clicking on ipod and selecting Copy to Play Order the order of the podcasts are :
Haunted New Jersey
Hometown Tales Podcast
NPR Technology
Hometown Tale Podcast
Nothing I've done sorts the podcasts as they should be sort. Also i set it to not show the ipod unless it's connected, and when I sort the podcasts as I want, Update ipod, and plug ipod, plugging it back in shows the wacky sort order they're stored on the ipod. I can rearrange again, update again, eject and plug back in, and the crazy sort order (not mine) is back.
Is there something I'm missing????

Controlling the sort order for a column?

I have a column which uses strings that I want to sort on. But, I don't want to do simple string sorting. Can I effect the sort order somehow? Maybe enumerate the values and assign integers to them?
For example, I want to use Low, Medium, and High. Or maybe: L-, L, L+, M-, M, M+, H-, H, H+
Any pointers on how to do this?

Not knowing what you're trying to sort, it is difficult to make specific suggestions. Basically, two approaches come to mind. 1) start the lines of the column you want to sort with some type of sort code or 2) place that sort code in another column and sort on two columns - possible hiding the one with the codes.
The next problem is designing a code that fits your situation. In the example you gave something like 1L-,2L,3L,...,8H,9H may work because there are only 9 categories. If more than 9, two digit numbers may work but remember to use leading zeros to pad single digit numbers.
The code could also be alpha characters with relevance such as "Auto", "Clot", "Food", "Hous", "Misc", etc. But again, if these alphabetic categories are not in the order you like you may have to precede them with some sequence device to get what you want. Maybe something like "aFood", "bClot", "cHous", etc. would work. Designing a code applicable to a given situation that one can easily remember is not always easy.
Hope this gives to something to think about and if you care to give more details you'll surely get some specific suggestions.

How do I change the Sort order for Music Video's on the iPad

Hi All,
Apologies if this has been dealt with elsewhere - I can find posts about sort order for TV Shows and Movies but not Music Video's.
When I sync my music video's the appear in Track order in the video app and I cannot find how to change the sort order to 'by Artist' (or any other order come to that).
Any ideas please>

Any way to set the sort order other than in the query?

The report has an OrderBy parameter so the user can select which field is used for sorting. The query has an OrderBy clause referencing the parameter. The problem is that it doesn't always pay any attention to the parameter. (Since it appears to be intermittent my suspicion is that it really never pays any attention to it but that sometimes whatever actually is determining the order gives the same results.)
The problem is that putting an OrderBy clause in a query is the only way I know of to determine the output order of a report. Is there any other way?

Unfortunately Break Order doesn't seem to be controlling the sort order. I found that the value was set on numerous fields but I've changed them all to None & it still isn't displaying in the order specified by the OrderBy parameter.
Note that this is a 'form layout' report with one page/record so it doesn't really have columns-but the pages are supposed to be printed in the order chosen by the user from a list of values. It doesn't seem to matter what's selected from that list though, the output appears in the same order as if no Order By clause is specified.
Can you think of anything else that would cause the report to ignore the order by clause?

Sort order for podcasts

Alright, the elimination of podcasts from the Music app has finally forced me to load the Podcasts app again. While the interface isn't as excrable as it once was, I've still got a major problem: the shows seem to be listed in random order. I've found how to sort them manually, but I listen to dozens of shows- is there really no way to make the app sort them alphabetically by show title- you know, the way iTunes has been doing it since Podcasting started?
Yes, I've tried Downcast (again), but it's only identifying 6 of subrscriptions to sync.
This seems crazy to me, and it also feels like adding insult to injury since I really liked having all my audio content in one place and they've broken that for me. But to break it and force me into an app that doesn't even have basic sorting? Really?

Update: I re-rdered them manually... and the app reset them. I think it might be etting them in order of recent DL, but that's irrelevant to me. If I wan to listen to Girl On Guy, I really don't care that there's a more recent episode of Hardcore History. Some shows I listen to as they come out (like MacOSKen, or Wait Wait). Others are not timely, and are much better for binge lsitening (hisotry podcasts, for example).
I'm appalled and really kind of worried. Can someplease point me to a fix?

When I drag albums into the correct order in Photos for Mac, they show up in reverse order on the iOS devices. Thus there seems to be a bug in either iOS 8.3, OS 10.10.3 or iCloud Photo Library.
The browser version of iCloud Photo Library (icloud.com) is currently updating. I am waiting to see which way my albums are sorted there.
There is no promise at all, or documented anywhere, how sorting of library items will sync across the devices. This has been haphazard when syncing iPhoto Libraries - synced faces not sorted, synced events not sorted, etc. So it is at least a step in the right direction, in Photos that the albums are sorted at all.

The Sort order for a playlist created on my MB Pro is wrong on my iPad. Can I fix this?

When I create a playlist on my MB Pro I cannot guarantee that the playlist will be in the same sort order on my iPad. It is on my MB Air, but not on my iPad. Does anyone know why? How can I correct this?
This is important with classical music where the order of the tracks may be critical.

Try deselecting Sync Music under the Music tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes followed by a sync which should remove all music from your iPhone. Follow this by reselecting Sync Music and your selections below followed by another sync to re-transfer the music.

In the production order for 1 of the component material no 261 movement

In MRP2 view the backflush indicator has been set. But in the parent material BOM setup this material itself not there I informed the user about this, please refer the below user comment ( In BOM the material:Q7829-60184 is appearing and mat:Q7829-60140 not there in BOM, in production order for both the materials 261 movement not happened ) Please give your input on this issue.

From Q7829-60140 to Q7829-60184
All options for Q7840A, Q7829A, Q7830A (except #ACJ, already completed), Q7831A.
That's why you are not able to see the part in BOM
How can we rectify this from here?

Default Sort Order for Library View

It would be fantastic if there were a user defined preference for a default sort order in Library view. For example, some users may prefer to always view the images by File Name, or Rating, etc, without having to change the sort order for each individual folder they view via Lightroom.

Thanks for your suggestion Allan, but it doesn't work.
I'm specifically referring to the defaults that Aperture 3 adopts when you use the "File, Import, Folders as Projects with the projects and albums setting.
What I'm finding is regardless of the setting in the Library preferences, the default sort order for the project is Date and Manual for the album.
Yet if I create a project manually the default sort order is as per the Library prefs. Strange.

How to change sort order for Notes in iOS?

When using Notes in OS 10.10, I can change the sort order. However, I cannot see how to change the sort order for Notes in iOS8 on my iPhone. I sync using iCloud, but the iPhone does not pick up the sort order (alpha) that I have chosen on my MBP.

It seems that if I specify the sort order for Simplified Chinese (pinyin) on the reference page,
index entries that start with "i" and "v" are not shown under their corresponding group titles.
(I assume that this may be due to the fact that pinyin words never start with these letters.)
If I have an entry that starts with an English word like "IP," it appears under the "J" group.
I want the entry to appear under the "I" group. How can I do this?

It may be that your iPhone's set to sync automatically, which can potentially remove any music that's been added to the device. It may help to set the device to 'manual mode,' so that you have complete and total control over what content is on the device.

Error: The sort order specified for distinct count records is incorrect

When processing a measure group with a distinct count measure in it, i get the following error:
"The sort order specified for distinct count records is incorrect."
I have no idea what this means - any ideas?

I had the same problem and your fix worked. In more detail, the problematic field was contract_no. I added a named calculation to the table in the Data Source View with the formula CHECKSUM(contract_no). Then I created the distinct count measure on that named calculation. And, lo and behold, the errors disappeared!
