What's the state of mobile malware?
In their latest threat report, researchers at the G DATA SecurityLabs have taken a closer look at malicious software (in the broader sense of the word) targeted against users of mobile devices. The rate at which new strains of mobile malware appear is staggering: on average, there is a new variant popping up every 18 seconds.
For more details, head over to our vendor page or go directly to:

I was overclocking my system using mprime and my btrfs root became corrupted. I tried using btrfsck, but it could not repair the damage. This was about two months ago. I had to restore from backups.
Did you try to mount it with -o recovery flag? That walks back in the tree root history (btrfs saves snapshots every 30 seconds). Btrfsck supposed to be used only if all those recovery points are corrupted.
Did not even know about that option. Thanks for the tip. It's pretty easy for me to restore from backup than try to fix the filesystem errors. I learned that you should probably not test overclocking while using an experimental filesystem.

What is the state if flex, and air development for air
Hi,
1- I wanted to know what is the state of affairs in flex and air as cross platform mobile development solutions?
2- Are they still worth learning and spending time developing mobile application using these technologies?
Becuase all the documnetation forum posts and most of the help material I come across is almost a year old.
Any guidance in this regard would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.The right place to look for updates on Flex is http://flex.apache.org
The good thing is that activities are still going on. The bad things are that:
- Unless the dependency to Adobe air is cut, Flex as an open source project is bound to fail imho. See FlexJS for updates on that point
- Current activties seem to be focused around making things more polished rather than working on hard stuff (typically developing an independent and open source runtime execution engine => flexJS)
So...
For a small company, home development, not so business critical applications, I recommend warmly Flex, since it is one of the best (if not the best) cross-platform mobile development environment (Very good performances if used appropriately, very good programming environment, lots of components, structured language, lots of documentation and tutorials, easy to design, etc.)
for business critical applications... The risk is high ! -

What's the state out of the box?
Got my board today. Going through the instructions at
https://ms-iot.github.io/content/SetupGalileo.htm and I'm confused. I try to apply the image to the SD card and am told that the card needs to be empty. Sure 'nuf looks like a full Windows install is sitting on it. Yet I'm being told in Setup to apply another
one - so what's on it?
I tried plugging it in to my PC via the Ethernet cable, etc, and the Galileo Watcher picks up nothing.
Following the instructions on Intel's site wants Arduino to be installed so the firmware can be updated - is this all accurate?
I get the feeling the Setup docs and How-Tos need some *serious* going over.
http://bc3te.ch/brandonhThe instructions seem fairly simple.
I'm not certain how you could be applying an image to an SD card and be told that the SD card needs to be empty when the instructions clearly state "Format the microSD card with the Fat32 file system" which would make the SD card empty.
And if the instructions are followed they probably work. I don't see anywhere in the instructions to use the microSD card OOB. Do you? Or is there some reason you feel the need to do that? Regardless of what the instructions say? Just because you have to
for no apparent reason? Or you cant plug the microSD card into your PC to see what the state of it is OOB?
Write Windows to the microSD card
Format the microSD card with the Fat32 file system.
Open an Administrative command prompt:
Open the Start screen
type cmd
right click or tap and hold on Command Prompt, then select
Run as Administrator
If you are running on Windows 7 please follow
these instructions before proceeding.
In the command window, type the following:

I'm not being facetious or trying to brush off your question. If you want to know what someone meant when they said something, ask them. It's the most direct line and gives the highest probability of getting a useful, accurate answer to your question.

Helpful Links Regarding Malware Protection
An excellent link to read is Tom Reed's Mac Malware Guide.
Also, visit The XLab FAQs and read Detecting and avoiding malware and spyware.
See these Apple articles:
Mac OS X Snow Leopard and malware detection
OS X Lion- Protect your Mac from malware
OS X Mountain Lion- Protect your Mac from malware

If you require anti-virus protection I recommend using VirusBarrier Express 1.1.6 or Dr.Web Light both from the App Store. They're both free, and since they're from the App Store, they won't destabilize the system. (Thank you to Thomas Reed for these recommendations.)
From user Joe Bailey comes this equally useful advice:
The facts are:
1. There is no anti-malware software that can detect 100% of the malware out there.
2. There is no anti-malware that can detect anything targeting the Mac because there
is no Mac malware in the wild, and therefore, no "signatures" to detect.
3. The very best way to prevent the most attacks is for you as the user to be aware that
the most successful malware attacks rely on very sophisticated social engineering
techniques preying on human avarice, ****, and fear.
4. Internet popups saying the FBI, NSA, Microsoft, your ISP has detected malware on
your computer is intended to entice you to install their malware thinking it is a
protection against malware.
5. Some of the anti-malware products on the market are worse than the malware
from which they purport to protect you.
6. Be cautious where you go on the internet.
7. Only download anything from sites you know are safe.
8. Avoid links you receive in email, always be suspicious even if you get something
you think is from a friend, but you were not expecting.
9. If there is any question in your mind, then assume it is malware. -
What is the difference between Mobile Engine and MI?
hi all,
i want to know the difference between Mobile Engine and MI and also what are the main advantages included in MI instead of ME.Hi Anusha,
ME had MicroITS as UI.
MI has JSP and AWT as UI programming.
From the above discussion its clear that JSP is the best option for programming.
PS: AWT was depricated by SUNMicro.
I just thought of sharing the history of MI.
just to share to you a "history" of mobile projects in SAP.
the current MI was actually a merged project from two mobile
projects - the old Mobile Engine and the unheard Mobile
Development Framework (MDF). when these projects were
restructured, the ME was extended with some functionalities
such as the SmartSync which was actually the replication
technology used in MDF. MDF client was based on C++ and
uses the CEDB as the database. it was not chosen to be
the client due to its platform-dependency. MDF was already
a working product when the restructuring happened. and there
were some client functionalities like xml based GUI and
metadata/logic definition that the current MI client doesn't
have.
Hope this is helpful.
Close the thread if your done with your clarification.
Cheers,

What is the state of JavaFX Deployment?
I did a search for deployment, self-contained apps, etc and found not a single thread in this forum about these topics.
I watched Mastering Java Deployment from JavaOne 2012 and I've proposed that my company leverage these technologies for our product to simplify our deployment to Enterprise customers.
I've done a lot of reading of the Java Deployment blog (https://blogs.oracle.com/talkingjavadeployment/) but it appears to have been abandoned when Igor Nekrestyanov left Oracle for Intel in Nov 2012.
Here is the latest update from that blog:
+"> fx:platform doesn't support the "basedir" attribute+
+Please use JDK8 builds from http://jdk8.java.net/download.html+
+Due to change of release plans some changes had been postponed till next 7u update and will NOT be available in 7u10. Packaging changes are among them.+
+Posted by Igor on October 29, 2012"+
Specifically what features were postponed out of Java 7u10?
It just says 'packaging changes'?
Which packaging changes were postponed?
If we plan to use JavaFX packaging to create a self-contained app from a Swing application, will that not work in Java 7u10 and is it implemented in the current JDK 8 builds?
Can you confirm whether or not this will work in any version of Java 7?
There is now more up to date documentation here (http://docs.oracle.com/javafx/2/deployment/jfxpub-deployment.htm). It says last update was April 2013, but indicates that the information applies to JavaFX 2.2.21 and not JavaFX 8. It covers self-contained applications and using JavaFX in Swing applications, but it is not completely clear to me that packaging Swing applications with JavaFX 2.2.21 is supported.
Where can I go to find the latest updates on JavaFX deployment now that the Blog is dead?
Will there be talks at JavaOne 2013? I really need to get updates on the latest state of JavaFX deployment before then.
Note: I posted comments on the blog and was told that I had to wait for moderator approval, but it has been many days now without those comments being posted. So I'm not sure that there is an active moderator.
Thank you.@bouye
If you have time, you may wish to create feature requests against the deployer in the JavaFX jira for some of the items in your post.
Note that some of your requests such as pre-post packaging scripts might not ever be implemented in the deployment tools (or would only be implemented as a loose shell like the maven rpm plugin), but might be delegated to some of the package specific packaging tools which the JavaFX deployment tools delegate too (for example the rpmbuild tool for rpm scripts).
While the JavaFX 2 branch is pretty much receiving very few updates now and most of the development effort is on JavaFX 8, I think a bunch of fixes and feature enhancements to the deployment tools will be added in a forthcoming JavaFX 2.2.40 release. There are 55 deployment issues addressed for 2.2.40. Some of those fixes were performed six months ago, so it is frustrating that it takes so long for Oracle to officially release them - they did seem to be making such good progress on this a year ago. If you accept or work around some of the warts in the self-contained application packaging process, the tools work pretty well (at least for me).
You can also find the deployment issues scheduled for Lombard (JavaFX 8.0). Most of the stuff you mention is not in there I think, also I think a lot of the deployment tasks which are not currently completed will likely end up getting dropped from the Lombard release as JavaFX 8 goes through a feature freeze and restricted high priority bug fix lockdown.
It may be worth investigating 3rd party tools such as the JavaFX maven plugin or JavaFX gradle plugin, you can log feature requests (or contribute code) against those projects for additional features you require - the features might end up getting deployed quicker (as long as capable people are willing and have time to work on them) than trying to integrate into the main JavaFX deployment tool code. The JavaFX maven plugin has picked up 54 stars and 13 forks on github, so it is a mildly active project. -

Good day everyone; after a very long search throught the Internet with very few luck, I could find anything related to this directory: 'Data/mobile/Media/PhotoData/Metadata/DCIM/101APPLE/'.
First I though it could be used with backup purpouses, but there's an specific directory for this. Maybe it belongs to an application which is unistalled? I'd need some technical details about this, but any help is welcome.
Thank you in advance.

What's the relation between mobile components and device profile?
We get the requirement to assigne Mobile components to device profiles.
As a comparison for understanding,
R/3: authorization is assigned to user profiles
MI: Mobile components are assigned to device profile.
Am I right? If so, are mobile components basically predefined by SAP since
security authorizations are basically provided by SAP?
Thanks!Hello jennifer,
A Mobile Component is any part of Software which will be deployed and wich is running on a mobile device.
This could be for example a Database, JVM, Mobile Client or of course a mobile application (developed or pre-packaged).
A Device Profile is a kind of grouping mechanism which helps you to assign the Mobile Components to a large number of devices.
For Example you create a Device Profile which includes the Mobile Components (DB,JVM, Mobile Client and your Mobile application ). You only need to create this Device Profile once and you can assign it do many devices.
This helps you to administer your devices in a very efficient way.
I hope this helps.
Best Regards,

What is the RF transaction LMXX to print out a label and rational of using label
Hi,
I search through the web and to my vail and no answer to be found.
Question 1 -
I would like to know what is the standard SAP mobile RF transaction code (i.e. LMXX) to print a label (i.e. something like LT31 to print a label), do you know?
Question 2 -
I am a bit confused here with regard to the business rational about the use of label.
For example, when a freight forward truck send us our goods stuck with pallet and parcel, the trucker pass us a document which consists of the PO and Inbound delivery number on the paper. I understand at this stage we can use RF to scan inbound delivery to create TO putaway.
However, my question is do we need to generate a putaway label to attach to all the parcel (pallets of the goods)? What is the business rational and benefit of printing a putaway label?
In between, there is no Storage Unit (SU) nor HUM used in this little subsidiary of our company.
Please enlighten me,
regards,
TuffHi,
You can print the SU labels automatically when you do a TO confirmation from RF based on the settings or you can manually do a SU label Print using LT32.
Normally we use SU labels to uniquely identify each pallet with a unique id no, also you can incorporate all the info such as material, batch, quntity, TO no etc. in the SU label which be used for scanning for putaway.
If you don't use SU management, then you can just go for TO label print.
Normally, business also use Shipping labels while packing the materials in the warehouse which we will used by the container (especially outside the plants to identifiy the destination of the material)
Thanks,

The state of JavaScript support in Director 11
Hi! I asked this question in several places without any
meaningful feedback, maybe someone around here will shed some more
light on this ;) Ok, here it goes:
It looks that Lingo is the most natural choice for many
Director developers. Even though I have nothing against Lingo, I
prefer using JavaScript to it due to my personal reasons. And I
wonder what's the state of JavaScript support in the new Director?
To be honest, I've always had a feeling that JavaScript
script was added into Director MX in the last minute just before
the release ;) Awkward getPropRef(..), absence of some important
methods available in
Lingo(e.g member(0).model("foo")), fatal errors on the every
tiny typo when working with 3d stuff, etc.
Has anything changed in the new Director? And if no, does it
really make sense to use JavaScript in Director at all?
Can someone around tell me of any serious game(like Maid
Marian) using JavaScript instead of Lingo? How fast JavaScript
virtual machine compared to Lingo? I also have a very strong
suspicion that JavaScript can be a cause of memory leaks when used
improperly, especially in case of closures, any tips on this?
Thanks in advance.I prefer JavaScript to Lingo as well, mainly because I
learned scripting/programming in
C++/Java/C#/ActionScript/JavaScript. I’ve been using
JavaScript syntax exclusively since MX 2004, and while there are
things you have to work around, like not being able to access
models by name, I’ve had great success with it.
I prefer JavaScript syntax OOP in Director to Lingo Parent
scripts. There are some buggy things to deal with; for instance
I’ve had issues with “static” members
mysteriously becoming undefined, but nothing I’ve not been
able to work around. I use a getMemberByName(memberName,
memberType, w3dMember) function to get around the
“can’t get model/texture/shader etc. by name”
issue. Try/catch has been a huge help. I’ve got nothing
against Lingo, and hope future versions of Director continue to
support it because so many long time users like it. However, as I
said, I’ve not used it for years.
I was lucky enough to get a Director 11 Beta 1.0 CD-ROM
because an associate recommended me for it to Adobe. I wasn’t
a true Beta tester per se, and wasn’t asked to abide by any
NDA. In fact, my inquiries into what my
responsibilities/restrictions were to be went unanswered.
That being said, I’m afraid I can’t offer much to
this discussion; I installed the Beta on my laptop (Vista) the day
I got it but had vacation for two weeks a week after that. The Beta
version was essentially a 30 day trial and while I told myself
“I’ll check it out while on vacation” my wife had
other ideas. I did see that there was a JavaScript dictionary that
mirrored the Lingo dictionary in the script editor, but that there
was no color hinting for JavaScript syntax. In fact that was
pointed out in the documentation. I can’t say if this is
still true in the final version. Everything I tried (author time
and runtime) worked well in Vista, whereas I’ve had a few
problems with MX 2004 and Vista.
I’m unaware of any tweaks to the SpiderMonkey engine or
its implementation in Director, and don’t feel my limited use
of the Beta qualifies me as a reliable source of info on the
matter, especially since I wasn’t able to really run it
through the ringer. I can say that during my limited
experimentation I didn’t run into any issues and that
everything ran smooth… no “a fatal error has
occurred” messages like I too often get now.
On the whole I’m feeling very positive about not only
this release but Director’s immediate future. I’m
getting the durn thing the first week it’s out.
