What's this 90 days penalty all about then??

Two weeks ago, I demonstrated the excellent Apple TV to my Sister, using her ipad and my Apple ID - she was so impressed, she ordered one immediately! Good work Apple - great product; however you appear to shot yourselves in the foot as now she can't log back in using her ID .... For 90 days! WHY??

The 90 day restriction only applies to certain services, like auto-downloading of content (see the terms of service ,  scroll down a little to see the relevant section).
So here's something for Birchwood50 to try - and please let us know if it works. Turn off the automatic download settings on your sister's iPad, and then see if she can get back into her account - do a new song purchase as a test (even a free song should work, for testing - but don't bother downloading a previously-purchased song, that will NOT work as it falls under the same 90-day restriction).

  • HT1199 iTunes quits on opening and gives me the error message -45054?  Does anyone know what this error message is all about?

    I use iCloud for my music and recently deleted some duplicates from my desktop iMac (about a year old.)  Then tried to launch iTunes from the laptop about a 2008 macbook and get the error message -45054 and it won't open.

  • Can someone explain to me what the "loose hinge" issue is all about?

    my gf just bought a new MB and have had the pleasure of playing around on it for a little while. love it and it practically out performs my late 2007 MBP! the only con imo is the glass in front of the screen, but it's not my computer!
    i read on here about people claiming there is a loose hinge issue? i know if i close the lid to a certain point it shuts itself (maybe about 1/4 - 1/2 inch gap before the lid is fully closed), but i'm pretty positive that it's really just the magnets for keeping the lid closed.
    i mean, is it simply an issue of the magnets being a little stronger than what people are expecting or is the lid shutting on its own with a gap of several inches?
    anyways, the hinge on her MB seems perfectly fine.

  • New MacBook came with too many ilife discs, what's this about? and back up?

    I'm a new user, and not a computer conoseur.
    So, I got my macBook with max os x and ilife , ofcourse.
    Now, when I pre-ordered my mac from the Apple store, I got other applications with it, .mac, office student edition, apple care, etc.
    So, when I went to pick it up, everything was in a bag ready to go. And besides all my added appliations packages, there were 3 iLife packages. ya know, the little CD size software boxes you can purchase for computers.
    But, now learning that my iLife info is included in the 2 Mac OS x discs that my MacBook comes with, what are these 3 iLife packages all about? is it a mistake? All the iLife I'll ever need is already on my computer and on my 2 mac os x discs right?
    and how do I start my 30 day trial iWork?
    and if I want to custom install my iLife, to get rid of stuff (just learning about this from this discussion board), by MacBook guides tell me to Back up my essentials/files first. How do I do this? and is it necessary? do I have to Erase and install everything? can't I just erase some stuff, like extra languages. And if I erase some stuff, can I add it back on later? And is there any iLife applications on the discs, that don't come pre-installed with my MacBook?
    and what the heck is a destiniation disc?

    Welcome to the discussions!
    All Macs come with iLife pre-installed, so if you bought for an received 3 extra boxed copies you should return those for a refund.
    If you do an erase and install you will still have a copy of everything that came with your Mac on your install disks. You will be able to reinstall all that if you want to.
    If you want to do this out of the box, then you do not have any data or files to backup, so don't worry. A destination disk is simply the disk that you want that data to be backed up to.

    post a screenshot of it next time it comes up.  command+shift+3 takes a screenshot of the whole screen and command+shift+4 will allow you to take a screenshot of a particular section of the screen.

  • HT3669 HP 2.16.1 downloading "updating" 3 times in 1 day? What's this all about?  I'm using latest OSX  on MBPro

    Hewlett Packard (HP) Printer Software Update ver. 2.16.1 has auto-installed/downloaded twice within the past few days and now, today, the App Store wants to download 2.16.1 HP Printer Software Update for a 3rd time!?! Same version all 3 times. What’s this all about? Is something acting up or is this normal? Really strange that it'd want 3 copies of 2.16.1....
    Please advise what I should do.

    I think you should try some generic maintenence:
    Startup from the Recovery Partition, and repair the hard drive and repair permissions with disk utility.

    Sorry to hear that. I understand your frustration and I hope they send back a better working N78-3.
    Myself, I count myself lucky. Everything works perfectly for me right now...email, bluetooth, maps, gps, 3rd party apps, battery life, 3G, wifi, etc. etc.
    The only issue I've been having is the dreaded reboots but I believe that may have to do with 3rd party apps. I recently uninstalled Google Search app from my N78 and since then it hasn't rebooted or shown any issues. This seems odd at first but makes sense if you think about the fact that the Google Search app loads itself into memory and runs in the background at all times.
    I did this this past Tuesday night and so far no reboots, crashes or any problems. I'm sure I just jinxed myself but I've been using it heavily over the last few days with no issues. Prior to this, it would usually reboot every 2 days. If it doesn't reboot for another few days I'll be happy.
    I would normally not stand for this but I just love the phone and if I got something else it'd probably be the iPhone 3G which has perhaps more software bugs and issues than the N78-3!!
    Best of luck. Here's hoping they release an update soon.

    In regard to a question about playing music tracks from a previous account. Like if a son previously used only Dads account and credit card but now he has his own credit card and a new iPhone and iTunes account.
    I have been an iTunes user for a long time so my Library has some of the PROTECTED tracks and also several other kinds MP3's, M4P, M4A and passable others? And I do have some tracks iCloud status marked as "WAITING" As I understand iTunes no longer uses DRM what effect will that have on my tracks if any. Also I read online some mention about waiting 90 days. then another 90 days Plwase explain what all that all about? In simple terms if possible please... Because I'm simple

    Hmm. The problem still may be the RAM - Apple buys the RAM it puts in its machines from third-party vendors (usually Hynix) so it could be a RAM problem.
    There are a couple of things that you can do yourself before taking your machine into an Apple Store or an AASP... download and run an application named Rember that will run a RAM test for you - let it run for a couple of hours or even overnight. If it turns out that your RAM is faulty, Rember will let you know. If it is faulty, then you have a couple of options - replace the RAM yourself or (particularly if you're under warranty still) take the machine to an Apple Store or AASP and have them replace the RAM.
    If Rember finds no fault with the RAM, then you'll need to take it into an Apple Store/AASP and get a free diagnosis on the machine. Three beeps do usually indicate faulty RAM, but if it tests good with Rember you likely have another problem - it could be something as simple as the RAM, somehow, not seated correctly or signs of another hardware problem.
    Run Rember first... call back with results.

    My rue la la app for ipad stopped working. I deleted the app and tried to reinstall it,  it is no longer available in the app store and when I research it on safari and find it when i try to install it says that it is not available in the us store. What is that all about?

    My app did the exact same thing. It is still unavailable on the App Store and when Rue La La's site directs you to download their app, the "not available in the U.S. message appears. This happened to me last night. The app wasn't working, I deleted it and was just going to reinstall but was unable to find the app. I figured it was some glitch but I have tried multiple times this afternoon to no avail.

  • When I start up FCPX, the timeline and the clips don't highlight in yellow. I have to double-click to get them to highlight and it's in white. What's this all about?

    The system seems sluggish, as well. I can't find anything in help that describes what this is all about.

    Are you using the Select tool when trying to click on clips?  Might try hitting "A" on the keyboard just to be sure.
