What's this extra bit above the receiver?

Sorry, didn't know what else to call it other than a "bit."
Upgraded to a 4S recently, and noticed it has an extra... well... "bit" above the receiver. My only concern is that my Zagg shield, though clear, covers it. Is it some type of sensor? It's not mentioned in the manual.
Thanks in advance.

Ahhhh... I see. My previous iPhone 4 was black, so it was there all-along and I just never saw it. The new 4S is white, which makes it obvious.
Thanks.

  • What does this message mean? : "The file name "DSC_0088.jpg" is offline or missing." ?

    What does this message mean? : "The file name "DSC_0088.jpg" is offline or missing."   I am in the process of importing photos from iPhoto (don't really know what I'm doing....) and when I look at one of the imported photos that message pops up.  I know what "DSC_0088.jpg" is.  I don't know what it means that the file is "missing".

    CASpyr,
    Thank you so much for your reply.  I have a couple of bigger issues that I am dealing with: too many photos on my laptop: 40,000! (Of course I have to throw away many of them, but that is time consuming). I have a MacBook Pro and have primarily used IPhoto. I have recently purchased 2 external drives and have transferred my photos to those, but I need a basic education about how photos are stored, copied, etc.  I have recently been told that iPhoto only shows and deals with jpegs, not RAW.  About 1/3 of my photos are RAW, so I purchased Lightroom, so I could do more with those RAW photos.  I have been told by my local Mac store that I need to delete most of my photos from iPhoto, because it's causing problems.  I am reluctant to do so until I am sure that all of the keywords, descriptions and editing I have done to these photos is not lost when deleted from iPhoto. I just watched a tutorial about importing to Lightroom and got out of it that I needed to copy photos from iPhoto to a file on my desktop and then copy to Lightroom.  I did that, it seemed to work.  Then (because of my storage/memory issues) I deleted the photos (just a few as an experiment) from that desktop file.  I'm guessing that is why Lightroom doesn't recognize the the photos.  It seems that (learned from another tutorial) that one uses "Add" , Lightroom is only connecting to the source of the photo, not  actually copying it to the program.  Sounds like I need to use the "Move" feature instead.  My ultimate goal is to store the photos on the 2 external drives and eliminate most of them from my lapop.  So my basic questions have to do with what data (metadata??) is copied from iPhoto to an external drive (RAW???) and what isn't copied. Basic understanding issues,obviously….  I hope this isn't too much to ask.  If you can recommend a book or resource that can explain those basic issues to me I'd appreciate it.  I just got back from a trip and I can't download my new photos until I manage the rest!
    Thanks,
    Nancy

  • What is this black dot on the side of my MacBook Pro? What is it for? How do I get to it?

    I have a MacBook Pro (2011 Model & 13") and I was wondering . . . What is this black dot on the side of my MacBook Pro? What is it for and how do I get to it?
    P.S.  I feel stupid asking this question  . . ..  . because I know those who answer will know exactly about it and what to do with it . .

    To be honest when I first got it, I thought I broke that hole . . . see I assumed it was a button to eject the CD slot, and I managed to either push it in deep enough, or smash it off. . .. .  I once got a tooth pick and fiddled around in there in atempt to find something. . ..

  • What is this extra column?

    Hello I got a curious column in a table. It's Enterprise Oracle 10.2.0.3 on AIX. I found it when I used datapump to copy a schema from one db to another. Found it created this 'extra' column. I looked at the source db and found this:
    1 select name, property, segcol#, col#
    2 from sys.col$
    3 where obj# = 374103
    4* order by col#
    SQL> /
    NAME PROPERTY SEGCOL# COL#
    SYS_C00098_10072711:34:19$ 1081376 98 0
    REGISTERID 0 1 1
    RECORDTYPE 0 2 2
    COMPCD 0 3 3
    DIVCD 0 4 4
    STORECD 0 5 5
    REGFILEIND 0 6 6
    SHIPTOGEOCODE 0 7 7
    SQL> desc "VERTEX"."REGPRERETURNSTBL"
    Name Null? Type
    REGISTERID VARCHAR2(25)
    RECORDTYPE NUMBER(3)
    COMPCD VARCHAR2(5)
    DIVCD VARCHAR2(5)
    STORECD VARCHAR2(10)
    REGFILEIND NUMBER(38)
    SHIPTOGEOCODE NUMBER(9)
    1 select dbms_metadata.get_ddl('TABLE', 'REGPRERETURNSTBL', 'VERTEX')
    2* from dual
    SQL> /
    DBMS_METADATA.GET_DDL('TABLE','REGPRERETURNSTBL','VERTEX')
    CREATE TABLE "VERTEX"."REGPRERETURNSTBL"
    ( "SYS_C00098_10072711:34:19$" VARCHAR2(255),
    "REGISTERID" VARCHAR2(25),
    "RECORDTYPE" NUMBER(3,0),
    "COMPCD" VARCHAR2(5),
    "DIVCD" VARCHAR2(5),
    "STORECD" VARCHAR2(10),
    "REGFILEIND" NUMBER(*,0),
    "SHIPTOGEOCODE" NUMBER(9,0),
    I could just re-create the table, but curious if anyone know what that column is and possibly how it got there. Anyone know what property 1081376 means?
    TIA

    The name of the column make me think about a unused column. Try to drop unused columns as following :
    SQL> create table mytable (c1 number, c2 number);
    Table created.
    SQL> select object_id from user_objects where object_name='MYTABLE';
    OBJECT_ID
        171709
    SQL> select name, property, segcol#, col# from sys.col$ where obj#=171709;
    NAME                             PROPERTY    SEGCOL#       COL#
    C1                                      0          1          1
    C2                                      0          2          2
    SQL> alter table mytable set unused(c1);
    Table altered.
    SQL> select name, property, segcol#, col# from sys.col$ where obj#=171709;
    NAME                             PROPERTY    SEGCOL#       COL#
    SYS_C00001_11012817:30:41$          32800          1          0
    C2                                      0          2          1
    SQL> alter table mytable drop unused columns;
    Table altered.
    SQL> select name, property, segcol#, col# from sys.col$ where obj#=171709;
    NAME                             PROPERTY    SEGCOL#       COL#
    C2                                      0          1          1However, regarding DBMS_METADATA.GET_DDL, I cannot reproduce your case (I have no 10.2.0.3 db, only 10.2.0.4), it could be a bug on your patchset level.
    Nicolas.

  • What's this new icon on the status bar?

    Noticed this little icon for the first time after the Jelly Bean update. It's kind of sandwiched between the LTE icon and the signal strength bars.
    Anyone know what this is?

    Seems to be the consensus around the interweb.  Thanks for the tip off.

  • What does this grey circle in the centre of my shape mean?

    When I generate a shape (an arrow in this example) in FCPX, and I pause the movie, a grey circle appears in the centre of the shape.
    This disappears as soon as I hit play.  I've been trying to find out what this means and if there's any way of turning it off, but there doesn't seem to be
    any info in the manual or elsewhere..  (I assume this won't be in the final rendered movie)..

    I'm using the Shapes generator, set to Arrow.
    I've used the Transform tool and resized/re-positioned the arrow in the viewer, using the blue nodes.
    When I deslect the 'Transform' pane in the 'Video' section of the inspector the arrow returns to its original size and position.
    That's what you are doing WRONG!
    You say you are "deselecting" the Tranform pane in the inspector - in fact, you are deactivating the tranformation, hence the size changes you made are not active and the shape reverts to its default size. The application is working as designed.
    You are misunderstanding some tips in this thread about deselecting.
    What you are supposed to deselect the clip in the timeline - by clicking on an empty area of the timeline, for instance (so that the generator clip no longer show the yellow border).
    Alternately, you can just click the "Done" button near the top right of the viewer. This will make the controls associated with Transform cease to appear in the viewer. You can click the transform button again later to make more changes if needed.

  • What is this extra cable that comes with MBP?

    I just got my MBP today and it came with two AC cables. One is the magsafe whcih is what i;m already using, but it also came with another cord. this one is a lot thicker and it is 3-prong. what is this for? i can't find a slot on the magsafe of the MBP that apparently fits it. thanks

    hey, i think that it is the extension for the magsafe adapter, if you grab the part of the magsafe where it plugs into the wall you should be able to slide it off with a little force, you can then slide the extension on and it will be much longer. hope that helps!

  • When I open a new window, it always opens a bit to the right , or to the left, or a bit above the last one opened. Is there a way to avoid this?

    windows 7 home edition
    64-bits
    firefox 5.0

    Are you using a bookmark? There is a little-known feature of bookmarks that can load them in Firefox's sidebar. This allows you to work with two pages side-by-side. To change that setting, right-click the bookmark > Properties, then uncheck the box for "Load this bookmark in the sidebar".
    (You probably didn't set this yourself. If you use a link on a website to have the site add a bookmark to Firefox, due to restrictions on what sites can do, those will always be targeted toward the sidebar.)
    If that's not it, have you noticed any pattern in when this happens?

  • What's this number 2 in the top left of the screen...

    Hi there,
    I'm just starting playing with my new Nokia 2626.
    Surprisignly a number "2" appeared on the top left of the screen and I was wondering what it could mean and how to remove it...
    Thanks for the reply
    cheers

    hey there... i'm not sure if you are referring to the "number" on the top left of the phone that keeps changing everytime you go to one folder to another folder...
    (try this: scroll down to other application & see if this "number" keeps changing... if it is, I guess it is the mobile build-in program counter that allocates the place & number of folder (or application) you are trying to access... this is useful when you are trying to locate a folder (or application) and the user cannot read the folder (or application) name)...

  • VISA -1073807338 can anyone give me a better definition of what causes this error, other than the description provided in LabVIEW help?

    I have been seeing a recurring instance of this error recently, that I am not completely understanding. Can anyone better explain what may be occurring when this type of error occurs.
    Feel feel to speculate, but I was hoping maybe a designer might chime in on this.

    Well, if I were the designer of the error code, I think I could probably give an idea of what kinds of circumstances might cause this error to occur, regardless of the application.
    However, if it helps, here is the problem. I have an ATE program that performs thermal cycling for a UUT using VISA calls to a GPIB controller which communication with 3 different instruments. The test itself runs fine for long periods of time, and then I start to see this error occur. However, the program appears to continue to run after I press 'OK' from the pop-up dialog ackowledging that the error has occurred. There appears to be no evidence of a memory leak that could possibly be contributing to the problem, or at least none that I have detected, and the error description itself is very vague. So basically what I am looking for is a better understanding of what MIGHT be causing this type of error. I would not expect a specific cause for my particular application, because as Bob was so kind to point out, I hadn't offered much information in my original post. What I was really looking for was a better understanding of the error itself, from a 30kft point of view.
    Thanks Bob_Schor for pointing out the deficiencies of my original question, it's posts like yours that make this discussion board a wonderful place to have a professional discussion.
