What's this padlock symbol.?

I've got a padlock symbol with a circulars arrow around it at the top of my home screen. What does it mean and how do I get rid of it.
Thanks

It's the orientation lock, stopping the display switching between portrait and landscape.  To switch it off double click the home button to reveal recently used apps and swipe to the right.  The button is to the left of the ipod controls.

  • Oh no. What is the padlock symbol and why is it there?

Turned my ipod on this morning and there's a padlock symbol in the top left corner and ipod won't work. I havn't set anything and nobody else could have either. Screen is dark and dim until I connect to usb and then it lights up for a few seconds and goes dim again. What the heck is wrong with it?

Thanks, but mine doesnt have a switch when I plug in the cable.
There is hold button at the top of the Ipod Nano, and at the base is where you plug in your cable & your headset socket.
I havent moved the hold at the top, it is still in normal mode.
This happened to someone we know, apparently if the ipod gets a kncok to it, it locks the Ipod, they couldnt unlock theirs, I hoping someone can help me with mine, it is a few years old, but even still I dont want to have to folk out money for a new one.

  • What does this ipod symbol mean?

    sheesh. Not the Sad Face?
If I were you, since it's a Classic you have- I would take it back and have it replaced.
It shouldn't cost you, maybe someone else can confirm.
Not sure if you have lots of stuff stored in your iPod but a sad face usually means you'll have to erase/restore the whole thing anyway so i'd just switch it for another one.
heres a link to some other threads that might help

  • What is this loading symbol beside signal strength

one loading symbol always rotating beside of signal strength when connected to internet.
I took screenshot but unable to post here.

I can't see the symbol you mention as it is 'queued', but that code is an actionscript 2 (perhaps closer to as1) which is for a preloader. It won't work in an as3 flash project because as3 is different in a number of ways, and particularly in the way that the events work (and not attaching code to objects which is how that code was done).

  • A question viewing certifcate information via the padlock symbol in IE 11 (works on Chrome brower)

    Hello All
Can someone please help me with the following questions,
    J
    1:
I have a CA whose CA certificate has an Issuance (aka certificate) Policy.
Next I created a CSR for a WEBServer certificate, I created the CSR by first creating a .inf (request file) containing the usual including the following
    [RequestAttributes]
    CertificateTemplate=WebServer
    OID=1.3.6.1.5.5.7.3.1
    IssuancePolicy="My Certificate Policy"
    OID=1.3.6.1.4.145389.1.1.1
Turned the above into a CSR (base64 encoded) then submitted and retrieved the relevant certificate from the CA
If I open the certificate flat file the resultant certificate has the relevant Issuance Policy listed under the section
‘This certificate is intended for the following purposes’
    So all good so far
Next I install the certificate to the WEB Site and bind it etc. When I go the WEB Site e.g.
Https://TestSite the certificate works and the traffic is encrypted etc… e.g. click on the padlock in Internet Explorer provides the expected information, but when I click on View Certificate via this padlock symbol; in Internet
Explorer the certificate come up OK but under
‘This certificate is intended for the following purposes’
It does not show my issuance policy e.g. just the standard application policy for a WEBServer cert.
If I then look under the details/extensions tab of the certificate it does show certificate policy under the certificate policies extension, so looks OK from the extensions tab, but policy does not show up under ‘This certificate is intended for the following
purposes’ when certificate is viewed via padlock on IE but does show up if I open the certificate flat file (either original certificate file or copy to file then view certificate as a flat file).
The OID for the policy is registered in both active directory and local OID databases.
So the question is why do I not see the issuance policy when viewing cert via padlock in IE but does when viewing flat file.
    I am using IE 11.x
When doing the same thing from Chrome browser the certificate policy does show up OK, therefore is this a possible bug with IE 11.x
    Thanks All

    Hello Brian
    Thanks for the reply,
The OID is in the Issuing CA Certificate (online CA) e.g. was part of the CAPolicy.inf file when installing the Issuing CA. The OffLine Root and OffLine Policy CA have the All Issuance Policy set in their CA Certificates.
briefly as mentioned above when opening the cert (.cer) as a flat file by double clicking on it you can see the Issuance Policy listed as expected. When viewing the same cert via Internet Explorer (v11.x) PadLock > View Certificate it shows the Application
Policy, but not the Issuance Policy (e.g. in the general tab) but does show the Issuance Policy under Extensions Tab. If I use Chrome, click on the PadLock > View Certificate it does show the Issuance Policy (as it always does when opening the flat
    file).
Therefore was kind of wondering if a Bug in IE, when doing a CertUtil -f -urlfetch -verify Cert.Cer it passed all tests and shows it was validated against the Issuance Policy OK, therefore  perhaps bug in IE
No big deal, just wanted to know if any one else saw this or was another explanation
    Thank you

  • I have this padlock image with a arrow around it in the top right corner. What does that mean?

My son got a hold of my phone and now I have this padlock image on my phone. It does not appear to slow my phone down but I want to make sure what it is.

That is the orientation lock symbol, you can not go to landscape orientation. Tap the home button twice, swipe the task bar to the right, tap on the 'circle' icon at the left to unlock the orientation. You will then be able to view items in portrait and landscape mode.

  • What is this Symbol called and what does it mean?

What is this symbol/icon called and what does it mean?  It goes away with it's "notification" and I would have no idea where to find it should I need to.
    Please.  And thank you.

It did come from Apple as I had to deal with this.  But in speaking with another "Genius" I was trying to describe the symbol to him and never got an answer.

  • Images have ? symbol on the top right corner of the thumbnail  what does this mean and how do I remove it?

    Q - My images have a
? symbol on the top right corner of the thumbnail what does this mean and how do I remove it?
    A - The
? symbol is used to identify a file that Lightroom can no longer access; probably because it has been moved using OS drag/drop or Move command rather than Lightroom.
    Click the
? symbol will cause a small dialog will appear. This dialog will provide information as to where the file was originally located along with an option to find (Locate) it again.
As you'll quickly realise, clicking the
? symbol is fine for finding individual files that may have been relocated, but not for large numbers. There must be a better way
Look at the Folder panel (left side of Library module) and you should find that the folder/subfolder containing the files that Lightroom can no longer find are shown in Red text. It is the red text that Lightroom uses to help you identify a folder/subfolder that contains files that it has lost track off.
    On the Mac you should
Ctrl-click (right-click when using two button mouse) the folder/subfolder, a pop-up menu will appear. From the pop-up menu choose the command
Locate Missing Folder, a dialog should appear. The dialog gives you access to every hard disk connected to your computer or CD/DVDs if they're in the tray. Use this dialog to navigate to the location where the folder is now located, then select this folder (not the files). Finally, press the
Choose button and allow Lightroom to do its stuff.
The method described above also applies to the PC version although the dialog is called
    Browse for Folder and the
    Choose button is replaced by
    OK.
You can avoid getting into a situation were Lightroom looses track of your folders/subfolders by using a variation of above.

  • Padlock Symbol at Lower Left of USB hard drive Icon - What does it mean ?

Presumably the small locked padlock that appears at the lower left corner of my USB external hard drive's mounted icon when I boot into Leopard means the volume is locked in some way ????
This volume is NOT my designated Time Machine volume.
I seem to be able, as my computer's administrator, to still write to and read from this drive and the permissions look OK for it so what does this newly appearing lock icon mean and how do I get rid of it ?
Also: on the Mac's internal drive this time, Why is the finder asking for my password very time I try to move or delete files and folders from my own home documents folder when logged in normally as myself ? Don't I "own" my own home folder ?????

I too want to join in on this Band Wagon! I did nothing new to my Mac Pro running Leo 10.5.2 and all current updates applied. First thing I noticed was copying files from an external usb drive. The file would get to almost finished and have maybe a couple of bits left. Then a notice would appear saying the files were corrupted. (NOT) I had to Force Quit the Finder and Relaunch it in order to remove the warning notice off of the desktop. Then I noticed 1 of my 4 internal drives with the padlock on the lower left hand side. As I was investigating that drive another drive blinked and then it too had the padlock! Now the external usb drive also has a padlock. I looked at permissions with (Command I) and found that my permissions had been changed to "Custom" which could not be changed back to read & write. In fact all of the affected drives now have the same issue. So to try to fix them I added myself to the users side of the permissions box and gave myself read and write permissions in the hope I could delete the custom permissions account. No Luck! But I was able to delete the new read write account? Ran Disk utility from the DVD an the drives still show up as being locked. Anyway when I removed the DVD I let the machine reboot. Now for the fun! It gets up to the grey background & spinning gears, goes to black and restarts. It stays caught caught in this loop until I kill the power. Call Apple support & they told me what I already knew. Reformat & start over. I do not find that to be an answer I want to know what caused it & how to fix it! Since my company just invested in 50 of these units and I am the only technician for over 200 users.

  • What is this symbol?

On an iPod touch 5th gen, in itunes, my music, there is a symbol next to some of the songs that looks like a cloud with a downward arrow. What does this symbol mean? I can still play these songs, so it can't be to download. Thanks!

    Welcome to Apple Suport Communities
That symbol appears for songs purchased in the iTunes Store. When you see that symbol, it means that the song is not stored on the iPod, so you can listen to it from the iTunes Store if you press the title. If you press the cloud symbol, the song will be downloaded to your iPod touch and all your devices with Automatic Downloads enabled.
