What's up with Bridge color management?

After getting a wide gamut monitor (Eizo S2243W) it was a delight to be able to see the Adobe RGB colors that I knew were in the file, but previously couldn't be displayed. Although the Windows desktop and UI elements look garish, I sort of got used to that.
In PS, ID and AI everything works perfectly. But I discovered that Bridge does not follow suit. The funny thing is that it shows the muted, "standard gamut" version - not oversaturated as one would expect with a wide gamut monitor and non-functional color management (if that's the case). The only reasonable explanation for this that I can see is that the document profile is converted to sRGB. I can't duplicate it any other way.
I'm no stranger to color management troubleshooting, and in my experience the prime suspect in cases like this is always the monitor profile. So I've done several things to validate the profile. I've recalibrated using the bundled Eizo calibrator with its EX1 sensor (actually just a rebranded Spyder3), and I've recalibrated using Color Eyes Display Pro with another Spyder3 sensor. I also tried with Adobe RGB as the monitor profile just for troubleshooting.
In all cases I checked in PS color settings that the profile was actually used, and in all cases the muted effect still shows in Bridge. By now I'm certain that the PS/ID/AI rendering is indeed the correct one. Suite color management is synchronized, using Adobe RGB as RGB working space.
I've also purged Bridge caches in every way I can think of, and then reset Bridge preferences by ctrl-launching and checking the confirmation dialog.
The following two screenshots require a color managed browser and a wide gamut monitor, since the difference is outside the sRGB gamut. The first one used Adobe RGB as monitor profile and has Adobe RGB embedded, the second has the Eizo monitor profile assigned and embedded. They are similar, but the second one should show it exactly as I see it (click to bring up uncached view, the difference doesn't show directly in Firefox) :
Any ideas what's happening?
(Also posted in the Bridge Windows forum)

You were right Tai, I did get an answer in the Bridge forum (by Yammer P).
Apparently it has to do with Bridge caching. Everything is rendered into an sRGB jpeg. That makes sense, although I don't quite see why the original document profile shouldn't be preserved. But on a standard gamut monitor it won't make any difference.
But the rest of the color management chain is intact, as the sRGB jpeg is then converted to the monitor profile. This explains the two distinct initial updates.

  • Print Setup says use Adobe Color Printer with No Color Management even though I have my .icc printer profile selected

I have a ColorMunki Photo and a Canon Pixma Pro 100 that I have been using on my Mac with Photoshop CC.  No issues.  I must have changed something because now when I go to print, a popup says "Please use Adobe Color Printer Utility if you need to print with No Color Management".  It is telling me that my I am trying to print without color management and this method of printing isn't supported.  So, I reprofiled my monitor and printer and have brand new .icc profiles and it is still doing the same thing.  Can someone tell me the exact things that need to be changed in Photoshop in order to use my .icc profile for color managed printing?  I have no idea what I have changed.  If I change to a different profile that message doesn't pop up.  My document profile says that it is the same as the printer profile I am trying to print from.  Does the document profile need to be set to my monitor .icc profile or the printer .icc profile that I want to print from?  Any help would be appreciated!  It is driving me crazy!

  • Is Bridge color managed?

My monitor is correctly profiled and the colors in Photoshop CS5 are correct and they print correctly. When I view the same image in Bridge, however, the colors are slightly more saturated and seem incorrect. They appear as they do when I view them in non color managed applications. Is Bridge color managed as is CS5?

do you mean the small thumbnails (no) or the Preview (yes)
if the Preview doesn't "match" Photoshop, then the image is likely untagged (or Ps is applying a different source profile)
i am pretty sure Bridge applies sRGB to untagged images for the Preview, and Ps applies its working RGB profile for all practical purposes (if we don't color manage it)
try downloading the IPHOTO TEST FILES and taking them into Bridge (and other file managers)
    PS
the iphoto tutorial images contain a low resolution 72ppi collection of 10 files of one image in five different colorspaces in tagged/untagged pairs

  • How to print with NO COLOR MANAGEMENT in Photoshop CS6

    Hi,
I have been trying to print a target from i1Profiler so I can read it with my i1Pro and create a printer profile, but no matter what I do, there is no way to get photoshop from supplying a profile while printing. I tried to select Printer handles color and then put the printer driver in COLOR MANAGEMENT OFF (seemed to me this would disable both the printer managing color and photosbop managing color). Tried printing this way ( and many other ways) but NO SOLUTION --- the prints are EXTREMELY different from the on-screen view (which is in a properly profiled Apple monitor) and they actually look like the ones with a profile chosen.
I also tried the utility Adobe Color Printer Utility and same results!!
I am using an EPSON Stylus Pro 7900 that I just purchased.
    Please help

The key here is to actually actually go ahead and print the target from i1Profiler to your printer...in the Test Chart panel, create the test chart and click on Print instead of Save As. As long as you have the correct page size set in the Page Setup, you should get an accurate printer target to read. Depending on how many patches you have set, it may take a few pages but they will be properly formated for reading with the i1Pro...

  • Is something wrong with my color management?

    Hi all,
For the past few years I have taken CM seriously, and have read Real World Color Management, and various other sources. I thought I had a good understanding of what it all entails, but I am not certain about my current situation. In other words, I am simply not competent enough to decide if "all is as it should be" or if something is wrong somewhere :) To my story...
Up until recently I was using a Lacie electronBlue IV CRT monitor. However, it died on me and I finally decided to move on to an LCD. I ended up purchasing the Eizo CG241W. NEC's equivalent was my other choice but is simply not available where I live. I profile and calibrate using the Spyder 2 and ColorEyes Display (CED), running on Windows XP SP2. I use 16-bit, L* gamma, absolute black (measured to 0.02 cm/m2 IIRC) and D65. Profile evaluation in CED shows a very good profile. This being an Eizo, I use a combination of monitor and video card LUTs.
Now, the "problem" is the quite large color, saturation and luminance difference being shown using CM aware apps such as CS3, LR, etc and non-aware apps. Before you start screaming "idiot!", hear me out! I understand that non-CM aware apps will show colors slightly differently. But I am comparing the image after sRGB conversion in CS3 and other viewers (take Firefox as an example). The difference is not subtle either, it is huge! Proofing in CS3 using MonitorRGB (or using the monitor profile with the "send RGB numbers..." checkbox active) shows the exact same image as with the non CM aware apps (no surprise there).
With my CRT, even though I saw slight differences with sRGB images, the differences where small enough that it wouldn't really bother me too much when viewing online images or just quickly browsing with fast image viewers to find a particular image. But now, the differences are very disturbing to me.
I have a theory as to why this is happening, but one thing does not fit this theory: switching the Eizo from CAL to sRGB does nothing to minimize this difference. I thought that maybe the near AdobeRGB gamut of the Eizo, in combination with "raw" RGB numbers being sent to it could cause this, but wouldn't setting the monitor to sRGB take care of this?
What IS happening here? Is this simply something I have to live with when using a high gamut display and non-CM aware apps?
P.S. Rant: some apps for Windows are starting to claim that the are color managed, but guess what? The only do half the job! They do read the embedded profile, but they do not use the monitor profile. What's the point then! Examples include IrfanView, FastStone, Windows Fax & Picture Viewer, etc. Arghhh!

"but shouldn't setting the monitor to sRGB mode make things much better then? "
It depends on if that really sets your monitor to sRGB coordinates colorwise or just 6500K and Gamma 2.2. My guess is that it would be more difficult to actually affect the gamut but I don't really know what they're doing.
"Fortunately, at least Firefox 3 seems to be doing the correct thing with tagged images. I haven't tested, but I'm also hoping it will assume sRGB for untagged images. I think that's the best it can do."
Unless there's a preference for the application to assume one color space over another for untagged images, I think you have to assume that the assumption is going to be Monitor RGB.

  • How to print with "no color management" in CS6

I have downloaded the "no color management option" to print off a patch for an ICC profile - http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/no-color-management-option-missing.html
However, I keep getting an error message when trying to print from it - saying "error occured while setting color management" and then the color managment has a line through it when I go to the "Print" option.  I am using an epson 3800 and have reinstalled the drivers and it is still the same.
    Any ideas?

    Hello!
    I have the following problem.
If I select  photos in the BRIDGE (Creative Suite 6) and then go to OUTPUT, I can create a PDF.
in my case the PDF is created correctly. But when printing on my Epson 7900 I get the error message file (PDF) not colormanagt
I have synced my color settings on the Creative Suite, and is set to Keep the tick in beteen color profile.
HOW and WHERE can I set the color profile for the BRIDGE PDF. I use Adobe Acrobat X Pro.
    Maybe someone knows the solution.
    Sinceerely Emal

    thanks for your answer!
I have made your settings but I still get the error message.
Do you have to make the settings for the color management in acrobat or bridge?

  • Print with no color management CS4 + Snow Leopard broken

I have seen comments in this forum about problems with printing with CS4, but wasn't sure that they were going to apply to me. They do, big time.
I print to an Epson 9800, I convert the image to the Epson profile for that paper, and then print using no color management. With CS4 + Mac OS 10.6 the colors are completely off, and the results unusable, and I could not resolve it by printing from CS3 instead. I finally ended up installing 10.5 on a new partition, deactivating CS3 on the 10.6 partition and installing on the 10.5 partition (because Adobe's licensing treats the same program running on the same computer with different boot partitions as two different "installations"!), and then actually going back one generation in the drivers for the printer. Basically this resurrects my computer as it was in 2007, and I can now print flawlessly. I'm not sure whether the latest printer drivers introduce problems or not, and got tired printing test images.
Of course, this means that I edit the photo in 10.6 + CS4, then reboot to 10.5, print in CS3, then reboot back into 10.6. And of course I can't use CS4 while printing from CS3. Very frustrating.
My questions are: (1) is there an Adobe document that discusses this problem, (2) are Adobe aware of this problem, and (3) are there any other work-arounds that people know of other than reverting to CS3 + OS 10.5?
    A

    Thanks Chris,
I didn't try older Epson drivers + 10.6. I wasn't quite sure if I was getting the exact same colors with the newest Epson drivers + 10.5, so I reverted to the previous version drivers + 10.5 and am able to print perfectly with that.
I must say that Adobe's licensing really gets in the way when there are problems like this. I only updated to 10.6 (yes, perhaps a little prematurely) after reading Adobe's reports on compatibility and searching these forums for any news of problems. But now that I have updated to 10.6, I really don't want to go back to 10.5 permanently. And, as I said, you can't run the same version of Photoshop on the same computer on two different boot systems, without using up the two licenses. This is very frustrating, and violates my understanding of the license that Adobe gives its users: the ability to run the software on either of 2 computers, as long as you don't run on both at the same time.
I hope you figure this out, let us know as soon as you can.

  • Bridge Color Management Issue - Looking for Registry setting

We have 100 people in our office. Currently, in order to enable color management, we have to go into each person's Bridge Center Color Management Color Settings panel, select our custom color settings file and hit apply. That takes care of 1 out of 100 people.
How can we automate this process...
We would like to create a script that sends a custom color setting file to individual user's stations. Does anybody know the registry setting that controls synchronization of settings on a user level?
    Thanks,
    Dan

    Dan,
Did you ever find such a mechanism? I am looking to do pretty much the same thing. I can get the .CSF file to the workstations no problem, but I need to set the apps to look at it for their Color Settings. My guess is that there is a registry settings somewhere, but for the life of me I cant find it.

  • What's wrong with my colors upon uploading my file?

I am new to this program, but just designed something lovely. However, once I pull it into Photoshop, save it in the size and type of file I want, and then go to upload it to my website where I sell my prints, the colors are all off! Some don't show up at all, and the others have turned neon... what is happening? How do I fix this?

  • What's up with Adobe Application Manager CS6?

If I select within Pr (CS6): Help > Updates...
here is the resulting update check (as expected):
    But...
if I directly run Application Manager either from the Start Menu shortcut,
or by running the executable file (PDapp.exe) in this location:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\OOBE\PDApp\core\
Here is the message I get:

    notes:
This is the first time I have tried to run AAM since this series of events
on 7/6 (I was logged in with my Adobe ID at the time)
The steps I took on 7/6:
    - Ran Adobe Application Manager from the Start Menu shortcut.
    - Normal AAM interface appeared (as pictured in first image above).
    - Once connected, the AAM interface immediately disappeared,
and a small progress bar appeared stating:
    "Updating Adobe Application Manager".
    (No screen shot available)
    - At about 50-75% completion of the progress bar, an icon appeared
on my desktop called: "Adobe Creative Cloud".
    - At about 95% completion of the progress bar, the update stalled.
    - I killed the stalled AAM update in the Task Manager, then rebooted.
After reboot, these processes had been added to startup:
    - Creative Cloud.exe
    - Adobe CEF Helper.exe
I killed these two unwanted processes in the Task Manager,
    then uninstalled "Creative Cloud.exe" using:
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features
After reboot, the two unwanted processes
were no longer present in the Task Manager.
Now that I am logged in with my Adobe ID, I am going to run

And going over curvy roads with my wife driving? No way. As long as I am driving I am OK. With someone else, anyone else, not so much.
On those, I usually get to drive. Last time that we came over from Temecula to Palm Desert, through Anza, I tightened up the suspension, put the anti-slip on full, and lit the fires in her AMG. Out of Anza, there were headlamps behind us, but they disappeared instantly. We had some slush on the road, but the big MB hung in there nicely. When we got down, it took almost 45 mins. for the next car to approach. We were already into our second course, and third glass of wine.
It was kinda' like the last time that I did The Road to Hana, http://www.frommers.com/destinations/maui/0015020319.html. Some locals had written into the Maui paper, about "tourists" hanging up traffic. Well, I did that road in 53 mins., from the Hana cutoff (Paia near Mama's Fish House) to Hana, and not one local stayed in my rearview mirror, for more than a minute, after I passed each one, plus a few dozen "tourists." Now, on the way back, I did stop to see the streams, that we crossed at about 50 mph, just to see what we missed. I am sure that the locals then wrote in about the "crazed tourists," who drifted through each of the 189 curves, and over the 82 bridges. They should not have thrown down the gauntlet. If I had had the AMG, I think that I could have done that trip in less than 45 mins.. If I had had the XKE, I would think that about 35 mins. would be doable, depending on construction.
To this day, my S-I-L will ONLY ride the High Country, if I am driving. Unlike my loving wife, she trusts me with every move.
Now, if I had Mitchell's TT, who knows how quickly I could do The Road to Hana, and especially if the "locals" threw down the gauntlet? Of course, his sticky tires, and brake pads would need replacing, but hey, that is life "in the fast lane." I'd love to have that road closed, with a Porche 939 Turbo, and racing rubber.
    Hunt
PS - sorry about the sickness. I had one bad bout, but think that it was due to bad fish. My father almost did not let me live that one down, but it was a "one-n-only" situation, and I was about 13. Yeah, bad fish for lunch.

  • What is wrong with my color picker?

I Have Photoshop CS5 and am working with a file that is about 40"x40" with 200 res.
My color picker when i opened it today looked like this:
it's totally different and it's only when i am in this file. I was trying to use the eyedropper tool to bring a color over from a much smaller file (where the color picker looked nothing like this) and when i went back to the main window i was working on, the color shifted pretty prominently and i was unable to change it. I compared the "H ,S, B, R, G, B, L, a, b, C, M, Y, K" values in both screens and the left column was accurate, but the right column was different.
is there an easy way to fix this?? Thanks so much!!!
    PS:
    It Normally looks like this:

The color is coming from what is set as your foreground swatch. Not sure besides that what problem you are expereinceing as everything looks normal.
Confirm your target & destination color space are the same -  you can see CMYK  at the top right of the screenshot below.
switch to the eyedropper, and click to sample a color with these settings, your foreground swatch will be set to your color
Switch to your destination document, you can nowswitch to any selection tool, make a slection  and fill with the foreground color

  • What is wrong with the colors on my Macbook screen?

I was watching YouTube on my Macbook Pro 13 inch with retina display last night and all of the sudden the color scheme became strange: the colors are all faded and "off", almost infrared. Occasionally the colors will flicker and return to normal but will revert back to the strange colors within another minute. I haven't dropped it anytime recently and when connected to my tv via HDMI chord the colors display normal on the television screen. Does anyone know what might be the problem and possibly how to fix it? I got the laptop new a year and one month ago.

Probably the display connection is loose.  If you have the issue with the internal display and external display you
have an issue with the graphics card on your system board.  In either case your Mac should be checked out at
    an Apple dealer.

  • What is wrong with Bridge CS6?

I have recently been experiencing a rash of strange problems with Adobe Bridge CS6 (5.0.2.4). Basically, it seems to no longer be able to recognize metadata. The list of malfunctions include: No EXIF data displayed, can not launch ACR, can not rotate images, thumbnail metatdata does not display dimensions (a blank space where dimensions should be), full screen previews are small, Bridge does not recognize or display changes made to images in ACR, Star ratings dissappear or can not be sorted. I am finding some new problem daily. ACR and Photoshop are uneffected. Running on Mac OS X 10.9.2. Seems to have failed shortly after an update from Adobe.
From my perspective it seems like an Adobe problem since the last thing to change on my system was an Adobe update. Everything was working fine after my most recent OS update. So, I do not immediately suspect Mavericks. Anyone else having these problems? Any ideas on a solution or troubleshooting? Already performed the "opt-click" on launch reset/purge, etc.

  • Very big problem with professional Color Managed Display in PS CC and CS6 win7 64 bits

    How to reproduce this problem:
    - Photoshop CS6/CC
    - Win 7 Ultimate 64 bits English with all the updates.
    - ATI 7870 / HD 550 and early graphics cards.
    - Dell U3014, CINTIQ 21UX (in the 7870), 2 samsung 2232 in the 5500 (all on, or one at the time)
    - Spyder 3/4 Elite, Eyeone Display 2, DispCal (argyll), ColorEyes 1.60
After the calibration and profile process with everyone of this Display profling tools (lets supose that is all right), open a image with more saturated colors (with Adobe 1998 RGB color space) in CS6 or CC, and hit the "F" key to toggle screens.
You will see that the saturated colors will change (will become even more saturated) in the nest two screen modes, and color come back to the "normal" if hit F one more time.
Seems like the photoshop get rid of calibration luts in the 2 F screens modes and come back to normal when the image are in the initial screen mode.
ps: the loaders startups of each display calibration, was choosed one of the time when I restart the PC ( so, there are no multi loaders trying to put your luts at same time)
    - PS CS6 / CC and WINDOWS are totally up to date
    - The driver of display cards, are the latest AND the windows certificated
    - There are no other software installed on the PC that try to handle the display card or even diferents CMS.
    - In fact the Windows is a fresh install
    - This happen in RGB and CMYK images.
    This is very frustating..:(

Dear Lundberg, in fact I'm wrong about this happen in RGB images, only happen in CMYK (whatever CMYK)
If you have an up to date Win 7 64bit, PS CS6 or CC, and calibrate your display with any colorimeter spectrophotometer and their respective softwares. Download an image like this flowers:
    http://hdw.eweb4.com/out/663221.html
Before, be sure to set in PS, this color settings attachad :
Open this file, convert to CMYK and hit the F key to toggle between screen modes.
If you have a calibrated display with,  let me say, Eyeone and Coloreyes, and the videoLuts loader is on, when you hit the "F" key, the colors on the CMYK image, will become way more saturated/heavy/dense, so Hit the F key until the screen mode is "normal" the color come back to the normal too.
I test this behavior in 8 machines so far, and in all this machines, the change in the colors are very noticiable, to reach a point that I cant be used in color professional works.
I hope that now I could express my self good enough.
    Regards.
